I'd assume no limitations. Origins had 200x, Rev (KG in Eternia), and Filmation (Koldarr), no reason why this 'new' line couldn't also have both.

CARTOON is written in Filmation font witb Filmation colors...its gonna be just Filmation. They probably just can't use the actual name itself because it's a copyright held by another company and while they may have gotten the ok to use the likenesses, they may not have been allowed to use the trademarked name

how are you guys feeling about these new filmation bodies? now that we've gotten closer looks at them Im not sure how to feel. the origins buck was solid as is. Im not sure a filmation line demanded anything new beyond heads, forearms, armor, and boots.

all of this conjecture just makes me wish mattel had been more concise about the future of the retail origins line from the get go. at this point I hope the future stuff focuses on the different cartoons because a line focused entirely on filmation seems pretty limiting. imagine if we got the cgi monster horde in this line. i wonder how many characters they're willing to reissue with the filmation waves anyways.

I don't get it: is that "we only acknowledge Filmation He-Man wink wink" or "we'll get to that wink wink"?
I want to know if they're flatly ruling out do-overs of She-Ra, Hordak, Mantenna, Leech, Grizzlor, Horde Trooper, Snout Spout etc because they weren't in He-Man episodes and they're scared of something at all girly in action figure aisles.

See, I'm not interested in have two separate MotUverse collections. I have my current Origins collection started and my only interest in Filmation stuff would be solely to expand the roster (adding Batros or Strongarm to my existing EW lineup and shit)
But the fact they use a new buck AND given they'll only have as much detail as the animation models had, I can't help but assume they won't fit in with regular Origins the way their Classics equivalents fit in with regular Classics. And if they stick out as a result, they're not gonna have any value to me

I want these to stay in MV since they look better there. Origins style Princesses would never work do to the hair and softgoods required. And let's be real, only a tiny fraction of MOTU fans will buy them anyway. Not enought to justify making full unique body molds for each figure.

they also cleared out all those WWE Super Stars. In both my local WM. But I found a set of wave 4 with Mr T just sitting on the shelf. Full priced though. Same with WAVE 7 origins still on pegs at $18 each with card mangled.

I think it's just a working theory at the moment because He-Man and Skeletor both have accessory from Masks of Power. And MAA has Freeze Ray which is from Dragon Invasion like Beast Man's transporter.

I wonder how minicomic would struggle to stuff all these accessories in the stories. Maybe they would be straight-up retellings of the episodes, shortened to fit 6 pages.

In my area the only superstars that are on clearance are ultimate warrior and undertaker. So I did get a duplico today, came in a bubble mailer but the card isn't wrecked. Duplicos face looks uncannily similar to Cody Rhodes, back of the card shows sa skeletor, tung lasher and mc roboto but no hypno, I don't recall the card backs ever being different in a single wave.

I was worried he wouldn't work after Snakemen gimped everyone, but now that Sy-klone and Extendar work properly, I'm confident again that he, Dragstor and Rio-Blast won't get shafted.
Saurod definitely will though.
50/50 on the Energy Zoids. Most people aren't going to buy them anyway, so Mattel might gimp them just because no one will appreciate the effort. (I'll appreciate though)

The whole sun-man line was a huge waste. I get it, in order to make the algorithm happy you have to pander to assholes and scumbags who don't care about the franchise but just want to see the world burn if they don't get their way.
They could have had so many cool figures instead of lame self-inserts of some lady's crackhead son and the yellow-skinned "pig-men" who are pushing drugs and buying up all the real estate and businesses in the inner-city parts of the universe.

beyond pighead I absolutely agree. I'm VERY happy to have Sun-Man and Pighead, they're on par with some of the most insane knockoff lines save for Speclatron, but I also agree that the other Rulers were a waste.
I have a feeling that we'll see another crossover after TMNT with any luck. Sun-Man filled the hole that WWE left, and now TMNT will take over for Sun-Man. It's a solid bet the next will be PoP since that would probably be the most popular thing they can do without royalties on Mattel Creations.

Why aren't people decrying the sun man stuff for the blatant racism? Well, Mattel, you're off the hook. You don't need to make a Battle Bones now.

...maybe Ramen should make more vehicles and mounts compatible with Origins. It'd save Mattel a lot of time and effort since there's so many left to just let a 3rd party field stuff like Blaster Hawk and Spydor so they can just focus on figures and playsets

I agree with MOST of what you said, but you're wrong about Ram-Man. Slap his extra head and extra armor on and I think he's at least as different as He-Man and Skeletor.

Masterverse is not changing at all, and Origins has kind of schismed. Origins Cartoon Collection will be I stores and Origins Vintage will go to Mattel Creations exclusively.

Rokkon, Extendar and Sy-klone are the first 3 of this new vintage Origins thing, but they didn't tell us when, just a vague "Spring". (So like, do they go on sale in spring, or will it be a Frog Monger scenario where thry sell them in Dec or Jan but then ship months later?)
A couple heman.org posters made a petition and also emailed BBTS and EE to see if they'd contact Mattel regarding getting to stock thrm there, but as of right now, it is Mattel Creations ONLY

Vintage is probably going to just make whatever has been shown in package art and the missing vintage original figures. Pretty much everything on the Camo Khan card art will be made for MC. Lady Slither is already shown along with Fangor. The Dinos, Giants, Laser Heman Skeletor will probably shown at toyfair next year.

He-Man and Skeletor were perfect in execution - new designs with option to switch to mostly old - but it really didnt stick from there. I mean, Zodac just got shoulderpads. By the time we got Two-Bad it should be obvious that we're not getting unique designs every time. Sometimes we get slightly different vintage, sometimes more radical redesign, sometimes there is little customisation, sometimes there is but you cant change to old look...I mean, sometimes boxart, barely tries to show off new look. Check Trap Jaw, literally only side of the box has a pic of him with silver jaw.And those new boxes have way more shots of the character now.

I noticed that bio blurbs say that Man-At-Arms and Trap Jaw are actually real versions transported to New Eternia, I almost wonder if someone caught on and did damage control.

I'll agree that TJ is a huge disappointment, he' barely differnt in any way. Mekaneck might be even worse. Aside from shield, he's basically identical, maybe darker colors. After long staring, I've conluded sides of his helment cling sligtly more tightly to his head. At least MAA has 2 different enough choices of head and his new mace is cool.

I dont think that Ram Man and Stratos are that bad though. Mask with belt, feather necklace and unique weapon make suprisingly big difference. There are also small differences like feather loincloth if eyebrow design on helmet that wouldnt be enough on their own but complement the look with mask and other stuff.

At the end of the day this is a toyline and the figures need to fit into budgetary constraints. Certain figures come with so many pieces that the only real chance they have at more is to be bumped up to a higher price. Look at Clawful for example, it isn't that different from a regular figure, but if he wasn't a deluxe there's no way that armor and the back spikes would have been included. Plus there's budgeting for assortments, so if more money goes to one figure, it probably has to come from somewhere else. I'd have to think the Snout Spout will end up a deluxe, but if he doesn't he clearly ate up a bunch of the budget.

wundar's status in the community would have made him the better choice. every oldfag knows the legends and every oldfag wants a wundar of their own. AE Heman, though comparably obscure, was limited to german children's books and thus nowhere near as desirable or interesting. I will admit, sending Heskeletor to Creations was a good call atleast. I dont think any of the MOTM stuff would have sold well at retail by virtue of being so recent and especially niche. Likewise I think this is why the 88'ers should make it to retail. For fuck sake a third of them already went to retail. Like Wundar the remaining 4 characters are well known enough to see good sales. None of the 88'ers are as pegwarmer tier as beastman, naked stratos, teela, or jitsu.

For the same thing to have worked with say, trapjaw or mek, they would have had to focus on some overlooked aspects of the character.

Imagine if you will a New Adventures inspired Trapjaw with translucent TRON prosthetics. Or for the matter a Judge Dredd/ Robocop inspired Mekanek who's spine+head extends out of his torso to be plugged into replacement bodies once the previous one has suffered too much damage. Shit I should draw some of these now that I think about it.

Depends who you ask. From the onset NE figures had that deep lore aspect, but also the ability to remove those additions and basically make a traditional looking version of the character. For example some might like that chest harness and helmet on Buzz-Off, but someone else might rather just remove it and have a more traditional Buzz-Off. I think they're making a conscious decision to ensure that a classic look can be achieved, and if there isn't enough money, budget, or whatever to add more that would differentiate the look, like for Man-E, then they'll just stick with mostly the traditional look.

Sometimes I think New Adventures versions of anyone would be fun, then I realize the designs fundamentally don't make sense, since they sent He-Man to outer space in pants Bow taught him to wear and a helmet that doesn't protect his face from vacuum.

It was never a part of Filmation canon, it obviously always had its own separate canon, much like the minicomics, the toys, the DC comics, 200x, and the countless other MOTU iterations. I do not understand why this is so hard for some people to grasp. Or what, do you just deconstruct things as not canon to Filmation, so every cartoon after (including NA), and even adjacent releases like the minicomics.

in all fairness you could remove the masters branding from the CGI series and most people wouldnt guess it was a Heman thing. I think CGI excelled with the villain designs and dropped the ball abominably with the heroes. The good guys look like a nauseating cocktail of cocomelon, overwatch, and fortnite and it really turned me off. He-man's design is especially fugly with the teenager head on the hulk body.

My local Dollarama is going crazy with the motu figures lately. $5 each compared to the almost $30 that the walmart next door was trying to charge for the same.figures.
They carry 3 lines, they have the normal sized cgi, and what looked like 7" figures, including a trap jaw that unfortunately they didn't carry in regular size.
They also had a bunch of wwe figures, I bought a Stephanie McMahon and a kane, but they also had goldbergs and ultimate warriors

I think so. That and absolutely no hype. Media and even Mattel only seemed to care about Revelation, while the big toy line meant to reinvigorate the kids into the brand was treated like hot garbage.

Part of me wonders if they did more focus testing before release and Revelation got more attention, so they switched gears. CGI only having 26 episodes and ending the way it did feels kind of telling.

I've been thinking about this for a while trying to just get the most iconic MOTU figures in my collection for origins. Now that Moss is out, I think Modulok and Two Bad are the only ones really left that I need before I can call it "complete." PoP would be a bonus, alongside some of the Create a Character stuff, but it seems like they just aren't interested in doing those. You got me curious with this post, so I jumped on ebay to see how things sell on the secondary market.
Literally every single PoP character I checked sells for less than a hundred bucks. Most seem to around $50, except Frosta and Mermista are about $75-80 (guess people like the blue hair) and She-Ra and Adora are about $95

For comparison, those are the kind of prices that the "dregs" of the franchise sell for. Filmation OCs, Goat Man, late wave d-listers like Dragstor and Blast-Attak.
Meanwhile, Filmation variants of He-Man, Skeletor, Evil-lyn, etc from Club Grayskull sell for like $150 each.

He was really influential in the 90s/ early 00s.
His first movie Clerks hasn't aged well but at the time it inspired a lot of people. It was low budget, starring his friends and filled with pop culture references. That doesn't sound groundbreaking now but at the time, it was a new idea that you could make a movie like that and it would find an audience.
A good comparison might be the Ramones first album. Its influence was showing people hey you can do this to.

IMO if you want to experience peak KS, the Clerks cartoon is still one of my favorite animated series of all time. It was massively ahead of it's time to. It basically was Family Guy before Family Guy. (They even call out Seth Mcfarlane in one episode.)

And to his credit, the run of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob was a pretty strong resume and these movies were well regarded and profitable.
He was also associated with nerd culture early on because of all the pop culture talk in his movies. He was always really up front about loving comics books at a time when it was still a taboo for a grown man to admit.
And the period after these movies Smith put out a couple of films that were recordings of him giving talks at conventions and one of him interviewing Stan Lee for 2 hours. He was funny and engaging. Seemed like he would be the coolest friend in your group of nerds.

I dont know how he turned into the skinny crying man he is today. But at one point he was legit.

Maybe you might be able to make an arguement for Shadow Weaver, too, since she and Hordak were always treated almost more like equals a lot of the time and she ties significantly to She-Ra's backstory

I think the CGI show tried to stay in these parameters so your evil warriors end up only being like 5 of the most well known people. Two Bad and Modulok in this have been in a lot of animation and their silhouettes are very distinct.

There were dozens of eps without Skeletor, but no one remembers the exact count. Lou Scheimer even misremembered him being in all 130 in that Netflix documentary.

Dogma is the only movie of his I liked. I still don't understand how he turned into what he is now, but it totally tracks that his He-Man cartoon is as bad as it is. I found this on my hunt for g2. I was fucking surprised to luck out. He fucking smells like a bottle of pinesol it made me nauseous the scent is even on the alt head and armor. It's that strong.

I'm gonna start campaigning for a flocked stinkor with extra accessories (gun, o2 tanks,gas mask) because he needs a proper re-do.
At the very least if he gets a reissue they need to make sure the smell is stronger than the rubber armor.

funny to see that others share my exact opinions of Smith's past works down to even the Clerks cartoon. It really is astonishing how much better the animated series is compared to the films.

somedays I wonder if we dodged a bullet with superman lives. Im sure it would have been a disaster but I half expected it to be a glorious one on par with batman and robin in visuals alone.

NA Skeletor looks so good that he's genuinely tempting me into buying masterverse. I saw a review of ol bonehead a few nights ago and the fucker hasnt left my mind since. Honestly the pair of NA Heman and Skeletor look good enough that Im tempted to buy them both. That said Horde Skeletor, whiplash, stratos, and buzz off have also caught my eye. Its annoying how tactical you have to be as a MOTU collector.

An old friend of mine absolutely loved his works and was obsessed with that Superman script. He referenced it all the time in his own writings. Designed his own version of the monster Brainiac uses in the end, which was pretty cool looking. I liked the script when I read it, Christ, nearly 20 years ago. I feel like it would have been a beautiful disaster.

I know everyone hates him here but I was really tempted by NE Stratos. He seemed like what the pinnacle of what the character could be down to the little details.
I'm mostly sticking to Evil Warriors in Masterverse but He-Man does need allies. Ram-man, Man-at-Arms, and Stratos seems like his core roster of good guys.

I don't think it's hate, I think everyone thought that mini comic Stratos was dumb and imo a total waste of plastic. He's just so bare bones as a toy, almost like a spare body for parts swapping and experiments. I'm definitely getting a ne Stratos, just not gonna be the first figure I get though.

He's absolutely a waste of plastic. Everyone already had the superior grey version! I feel like it's a result of classics fans voting for minicomic tri-klops when the line first started. It gave Mattel the impression that we wanted minicomic variants of EVERYONE. Maybe if they weren't critically brain damaged they could've reversed their release order, or shipped... less. Naked Stratos is one of 3 shelf warmers in a wave that killed the whole line. He deserves to burn.

Oh no I was in those threads and people hate his whole character not just the repaint. It seemed a little over the top to me. If you hate a flying monkey man, why not a bee man or skunk man?
I hate the repaint because if its supposed to be the mini comics version, throw us a bone and give him the feather necklace.

Also I forgot to mention Fisto in my core roster of good guys. My main motu experience as an kid was the Golden Books and he features prominently in several of them. He even fights the fan favorite Goat Man. Wonder if he will get a NE version?

It's not hate for me. Just apathy. He was my least favourite in vintage. Out of all of the original figures, he was definitely the most boring.

I absolutely do and love my Mini-Comic Stratos but he really should of been an MC exclusive like Tr-Klops with the accurate harness rather than a peg warmer at retail.

Mattel dropped the ball by not flipping his harness and wing colors. I know that's not what the comic colors were, but then you could've swapped his accessories with regular Stratos and gotten yourself the variant version of that.
