I assume the difference is in the market, selling to adult collectors instead to children (plus bonus adult collectors). No matter what one might think McFarlane cannot afford the level of sculpt and paint at their price range without mass producing to the kids market. Therefore the characters have to be appealing to (mostly) boys who likes DC, and boys don't want girl action figures (yet). Take the cheapness but accept manchildren are not the main target.
