LEGO trains suck dicks in comparison to actual model trains, and at this point I'm convinced a model train setup costs less as well.
LEGO has horrible scaling issues, if you want to build scenery you'd appreciate the beauty and detail of model trains better.

When it comes to LEGO, you’re better off looking at third party releases such as from Mobile King or BrickTrack to build up your models.

LEGO themselves doesn’t have much in terms of train releases that aren’t contemporary speed trains or diesel freighters. There’s a reason the train community for it is almost its own entity.
