Which is a big no no in Japan. They are a Japanese shop catering to Japanese customers primarily. Meaning you must adhere to local Japanese norms and customs. Meaning you need to communicate with them in a particular way and actually follow their rules.
Does it suck they banned you for a somewhat innocent mistake? Yes. However, you could have prevented it. The fact neither of you read the damn rules probably is a huge red flag to them. In Japan you don't get to walk over retail shops like in the US and other countries that put up with ignorance on a daily basis.
