Toxitron's pretty cool, but he's brought down by stupid design decisions. Putting aside the shoulders, his weapons are baffling, I have no idea what they were thinking with that axe nor why they want to limit who can hold the sword like that. But above all, the trailer, which does nothing. That part's actually best in vehicle mode, where it looks cool at least. It seems like trailers almost never do anything but bloat figure price. Why are trailer bases always so lazy?

He has that giant trigger hinge gimmick that can fall down at any moment and make him fall over cause it cant lock down it was kind of nerve wracking to take a pic

The OG trailer had like 4 gimmicks it was amazing.

It's because base modes are never ever the primary modes except for the micromaster baseformers so it's easy to fudge and stretch aspects of the base mode just to say they have one.
Who really is going to display all their bases together?
It takes up too much space and they even abandoned the ability to connect them all together.
Even some of the Titans which work best can look just like a robot laying down.
They're trailers first, bases second.

Yeah, repair bays make more sense story wise and fit in better with our expectations of what we actually get from add-on trailers today.
If they're going to make a base mode primarily just a turret, they need to add some heft to it, like making it an artillery/mortar turret or large machine gun. Otherwise it just looks pathetic.
Laser prime's trailer would've benefitted from being a complete repair bay seeing as that piddly gun doesn't pass for a turret and is already removable.
I suppose it could be seen as an automatic sentry gun.
Motormasters trailer base mode is just a mess. I wish that excess plastic was just used to bulk up the combiner

it's one of the few trailers that actually become something. It's got a turret, a repair arm, what are you talking about?
as for the "axe" it doubles as a shield and is also a reference to the discs the original toy launched

There's an upgrade kit coming out for Toxie that focuses on the trailer, might be worth considering. It looks a little more jank in the reviews I've seen, but neat enough if you really want the trailer to do something in bot mode.

It's not as weird as you might think. It's kind of like a zweihander (also known as a bidenhander).
The main problem is that the small sword doesn't plug in completely into the axe. That's what makes it look so stupid.

You know what? that makes a ton of sense given the name. "Evo Fusion" was probably supposed to be Transformers merging with Energon Monsters, but they got the name copyrighted then scrapped the idea

Why don't I ever see more buzz about the Junkions here.

People complain that every 3 years Hasbro relaunches Transformers with a new styling approach and design language (T30, Siege, CW, Legacy, etc.) But then just release the same fucking characters over and over again. HERES YOUR NEW OPTIMUS PRIME hes like the old one but not! we have better engineering on this one! and this is the new style for the next 3 years like it or not!

So people beg for new original characters, and Hasblow gives us the best new character concept in years with the Junkions.
Weaponizing, Combining, expanding on seen before faction. Genuinely cool designs spearheaded by a real transformers fan on in the inside of the company.

Ive been loving them, got the two main molds, towline repaint and preordered trash master

To be honest though i cant be bothered with the gimmick of them, it was fun and novel with the bone dinos, and it does fit thematically with the junkions, but it just doesnt hit for me the same, maybe its just cuz theres so few so far, i am interested in that crazy combiner though

We are halfway through year 2 in a 3 year line and we're now seeing only our 4th Junkion?
If Scraphook came in legacy wave 1 and Trashmaster in wave 2 they would've received a much louder reception in my opinion.

He needs a proper sludge gun. The detachable turret is nice, but it doesn't really look convincing for a character who's whole thing is that he sprays corrosive goop on people.
Unrelated note, but does anyone else imagine him voiced by Tim Curry and singing 'Toxic Love' while murdering people?

This is the greatest alt mode I've ever seen. It's like equally good, bad, cool, lame, and hilarious, all at once. Time literally slows down around you whenever you transform him into this mode. It's a singularity made of plastic. I love it.

They missed a trick by not having additional heads, hands and other accessories so you can really mix up the pieces and create new characters.
If you bought 2 different mold Junkions you could potentially make a 3rd variation that's a brand new character.
Even have fan interaction by polling their name, make box art and there you have an easy repackage and restart the process again and again until it loses steam.
I'm sure there'd even be something fun to do with class size variation. Maybe a leader/voyager Junkion can split into 2 deluxe Junkions.

That'd be cool too, some incentive to double up. It might get into the territory of accessories too small since it'd be fiddly to take heads apart but the option is nice.

There's a lot of potential with Junkions in the larger scale, if they really dedicated themselves to their gimmick.
If they could break down to smaller class figures I think that could be interesting.
Imagine a Titan class Mad Max style Battle Barge that breaks down into a Commander/Leader class figure, a Voyager class figure, 2 Deluxes and 2 Core class figures.

To answer the question, it doesn't seem like hasbro were being entirely genuine when saying that.
You can fudge it and use your imagination but you're not going to get anything that looks quite right. Having the Headmasters chill in the back while the Brainmaster does all the driving seems the best way to go.

Air dry clay and epoxy are ridiculously easy to use, they take at least 10 minutes to start drying, so you have more than enough time to fix your sculpt or remove the entire thing, and even after its completelly solid, if you're not happy with the results, you can remove the air dry clay just by washing it (I sealed mine with clear acylic paint after painting the whole face).

About yellowing, hasbro used better plastic on him, mine still pristine white after months while my Tigatron got random tan parts.

Nope, it was really straightforward. It's just screwed together, not melted together like ER Prime's head was. Painting it is easy too, you don't have to be precise at all because the the holes where his eye piece will slot into obscures everything but the front of the eyes.

Yeah, I got LG Broadside for dirt cheap from HLJ because nobody wanted him. It sucks they cheaped out on wrist swivels and stuff like that during the Prime Wars era, but a lot of the toys are pretty fun to dick around with so it kind of evens out. People like to pick on Broadside because he was the worst, and because his alt modes are ridiculously out of scale with each other, but that's part of what endears him to me. Like, an aircraft carrier that turns into a jet? That's so dumb that it's fun, I don't care who you are.

The thing is, it was never intended to look just like a jet. All the Transmetals third modes where just intended to be the animal mode with enhanced mobility thanks to boosters, wheels, etc. That was the philosophy behind the designs. There's levels of acceptability. Like, making a fake cockpit chest on Siege Starscream is fine because at the point it's clearly not actually meant to be the cockpit, more like a techno-detail that resembles the earth mode cockpit. On the other hand I still find it bizarre they made Hot Rod's car chest fake when a car chest is the EASIEST transformation scheme to do without faking stuff, and it's a black mark on an otherwise great figure. Likewise the horrible 3.0 MP Starscream, who has a fake cockpit for absolutely no reason, as not only does it make him look fat but it's located right in front of where the real cockpit ends up in robot mode.

the reason it looks derpy is that when a lion opens its bottom jaw, it lifts its lips up to bare the fangs, while the lower lips relax into a frown. they obviously couldn't do that in a toy, so it looks silly with the mouth open and I almost never do that

because on one hand, since I was a kid, I've been like "could they just transform out one arm? and fire while driving?" but on the other hand, once you break that rule, the modes stop making sense. why would you ever fully transform when the car is best at driving and the bot is best at shooting? they would all become... cartaurs. In most versions of transformers, the transformation is autonomic, operated by an onboard system, which they can't alter or interfere with.

Megatron's skates and vtols reminded me of Acroyear from Microman by Takara. No idea if it was intentional. Afrer Wasoinator the 2nd best Transmetal form was Rattrap who was clearly a rat car and Optimus because it was a flying hoverboard and that'a just cool. Its nof an actual vehicle though. Airrazor and Terrorsaur were fine too but bird and pterodactyl to flying machine is kinda cheating.

If only it worked the other way, so the robot modes had the extra modes. then robot mode could have a hoverboard and it could turn into bulkier forearms for gorilla mode so it actually looks like a gorilla more than the robot mode's arms.

Are there any IDW designs you guys want after Tarn?
For me it's probably Fort Max, maybe Scorponok because The Firstborn funny and I dont want a huge guy Scorpy lol. MTMTE Megatron and Optimus's RiD and Cybertronian Supercop designs are good too, and while mild, I honestly prefer MTMTE Ultra Magnus to G1, if only for how stern he looks by comparison to aviator shades lol (and the Minimus gimmick is cool desu).
Can't really come up with any major ones after that, besides members of the DJD who are lol very doubtfully gonna happen, or the core MTMTE cast or the Scavengers, who are more niche in appeal maybe, I dunno.

Those are the farther in ones. You even have recent examples posted to Instagram by various people involved. You have a drawing of a robot and a vehicle that doesn't show the breakage points a transforming vehicle does, another one that blocks out parts and how they could be moved for the alternate mode, and ones that show the specific parts that each one will need.

The pauldrons are on balljoints and you'll have to manually adjust them on every pose as if it was a figma, but they make the mold look thicker.

A bit of the hip articulation rage had to be sacrificed though.

So, I skipped this mold twice now - once for the Christmas version, and once for the normal colors version - and not because I dislike it, but because I was waiting for them to do a G2 Hero Colors version of it so I can use him as G2 'Sureshot. The problem is, that hasn't happened (and there's no indication that it is ever going to be a thing anyway), and while I was waiting, the normal colors sold out for a while.
Pulse restocked him yesterday, and I'm wondering if I should just get the normal colors version before he's gone again, or if I should keep holding out for a repaint. Any thoughts?

It was actually pretty popular in the US too, because it was way fucking better to play than MtG (not saying much), but it was directly run by Wizards of the Coast in the US, and Wizards is infamous for throwing any IP they get into the grinder to try to make people play MtG instead. Really it's a miracle those clowns haven't tried killing actually killing (instead of just ruining) D&D and relaunching Magic: The RPG or something a month later like they did with hero quest.

I want the G2 Hero version, so I'm waiting. If it never happens, then I figure I just saved myself 50 bucks.

If they end up doing a proper Hero Prime, I really hope they retool the legs to be the right way around, and I'd also really like if they retooled the chest; on the original toy, they're very clearly not supposed to be windows; they're an entirely different shape. It's just his chest with a design that homages the G1 windows, same as Laser Prime.

Be sure to check in to your local walmarts, one of my locals had everything but sideswipe and dead end, im not really into jazz, mirage, bike based on the canceled jazz or g2 grimlock and i already have toxitron, so i grabbed cloudcover, i really want those sideswipe and dead ends so ill be checking around regularly

Yeah my locations are almost always complete dead zones, every one of them is still over flowing with masks and those basic beast 2 packs from the movie so i fully expected nothing, but i guess since walmart paid for the exclusivity deal they want to take advantage, good luck

Although i dont personally want it, i will say to anyone on the fence about orange car jazz, in person the deco looked much better than in photos ive seen, the various orange shades blended really nicely into the red hues, from the promos he just looked full on highlighter orange

Mirage looks as basic as i expected, and the bike was pretty tempting, i like the original canceled figure of it, but i already have road rocket and this one doesnt change enough for me to want the same figure again. No new molding that i can tell and the deco isnt outrages enough to stand on its own

Cloudcover looks pretty great, most of the paint in jet mode is nicely applied, could have used a second coat in some areas but its overall a pleasing baby blue

Not holding up so well in bot mode sadly, a few issues.

On this copy the head looks crisp, but the other two had smudging in the face, one with paint and one from the mold itself on his mouth.

The checkered pattern over his shoulders is very middling, the application isnt crisp and the blue of the plastic still bleeds through a bit

The arms and head articulate smoothly so thats good but the waist joints are so stiff that they pull themselves back to standing straight after you spread them out. There appears to be some issue with the parts inside, maybe mold flash or something, but you can see that the thigh pieces are actually splitting apart just from standing there, and theyre pinned closed so i can just pop them open and shave the plastic or something

The paint application on the feet is a lot better than the shoulders, but still the yellow cant fully cover the black plastic

I Like this mold for a lot of reasons, and the colors have even grown on me over time, but honestly, I think I'd rather have a new mold than a repaint of the VNR with the trailer replaced with various accessories.

I liked the fact that it was a 10 wheeled truck, and that the missile launcher wasn't just a trailer that could be lost easily.
Furthermore, I'd like to see engineering to actually give his foot articulation.

I agree with this. I'd love to see them put ankle articulation into the truck cab parts so he actually has huge stompy feet and not just massive bellbottoms.

Thanks, couple of days ago I noticed you can squeeze a titanmaster inside the mold chest, so now I'm working on an inner tank bot to get the whole Bludgeon experience, after thats done I'll make his g1 turret shield to complete the kit.

We got entirely new bots based on micromaster sets that became armor for other bots.

Most headmaster and combiner molds could b easily retooled into pretender shells, all of them have big gaps on their chests, take off the combiner peg/combiner head on the combiner molds and leave the heads attached on the the headmasters molds (the blurr family mold is the easiest to modify, just remove a panel on their shields and yo can avoid the partsforming head).

I used to be happy with any kind of hollow torso kinda mech, like that Lion-O toy of the golden armor where a tiny lion-o fits inside, that would have blown me away as a kid. But over time I've just started needing things to look.. believable. I need a Krang's Android Body to have space around the cockpit, so there's something supporting the half the body above it. And not for nothing, the real action figure also needs support.
