I have been eyeing the Star Convoy version but I'm pretty behind my backlog to want to go back for it. Especially since the star crest on its chest is really dingy and keeps falling off in reviews.
Fucking model kits have also ballooned in price. I'd rather figure rise just get turned into figuarts FAGs get remade as figma at this point. 80 dollars for a kit of an anime girl is fucking stupid.

PotP isn't that good. However, I enjoy the fact that we got updated Pretenders, even though they transform into a bunch of nothing, and Grimlock and Slash are still some of my favorite figures in my collection. Considering I started collecting again during PotP might make me biased though.

POTP was a mop up line pure and simple. All the budget went into the terrorcons and dinobots, everything else sucked with Starscream being lazily made to shut up people who were pissed that the seekers got snubbed in Combiner Wars.

Even funnier is that he was originally scripted to be Wolfang, hence his whole 'lone wolf' schtick in the show. They swapped him out for Tigatron because it was cheaper to just modify Cheetor's model than it was to finish the partial wolf model they had started for him (which would later get recycled when Silverbolt became a thing). Either way, we weren't intended to get Tigatron in that episode, but we did anyway.

Nta but that's a pretty big exageration. The thing was laughed at back when it came out for its awful T-rex mode proportions. His torso mode sucked too being way too small and thin, he's like a stick figure given muscles. SS86 *IS* by far objectively the best mainline Grimlock we've had in years. It's solid, has great proportions, is appropriately large, and just feels great! Don't let your biases cloud your judgement, you can still like the toy all you want, there's nothing wrong with that, but don't pretend to be objective then because objectively that just isn't true.

Speaking objectively as someone who has and likes the Takara versions of the POTP Dinobots, the SS Grimlock definitely looks better. POTP's tail is pretty rough and the robot mode is kinda oddly proportioned. I still like him but he could be better. I wish they'd given the SS the clear neck over gold greebles of the G1 toy though, and also a sword instead of that crap Wheelie that was so bad it got omitted from the redecos.

He's good! I will say transforming him for the first time was a bit scary, the joints are a bit tight in places. Also I wish he had better elbow range. But he looks good, poses well and feels well made. While im not a og bw absolutist, but i did grow up with them and imo these are pretty decent, there was already a bit of difference between the smooth tv show models and the textured, sculpted actual toys back then, and i feel like the live action beasts feel more like updates of the toys than the show

My main issue with them is the colours, theyre all so fucking boring to look at, just flat browns and greys, that really holds them back

I had way too many bad QC experiences where the titan master just didn't fit the figure it came with properly, giving it a pencil neck, a bobble head, or both. Or the hinge on the titan master's legs was loose as fuck so it could barely and the legs just flopped around in head mode like an ugly ponytail.
Really soured me on Titans Return and the gimmick as a whole.
Weirdly enough, the ones that came with Apeface and Snapdragon were dead solid all-around. Maybe if TR had been more like that I'd be more positive on it.

The only mold I ever had "bobblehead" issues on was Highbrow, and I fixed it by sticking a small cutout of card stock in the back of the port.

Personally, I never get people who complain about small stuff like this because it's honestly present in almost every recent Transformers line. Whenever people have no idea about using acrylic clearcoat or floor polish to tighten joints, I'm kind of baffled, because if I didn't know about that, I think I would have stopped collecting Transformers over a decade ago.

The best QC I find on Transformers figures nowadays is when I buy something from Classics or Unicron Trilogy off ebay, lol.

I picked up the TRU 2 pack back in the day, and he honestly is one of the best toys Beast Wars ever produced. The transformation has enough in it to make "stand up munkee" fun to do, and he's loaded with so many gimmicks on top of gimmicks that somehow don't get in the way of the actual main action figure. Like you just know if he was made even a few years later he'd have a soundbox at the cost of arms that couldn't bend or the like.

What does being in the same photo have to do with it? It's a matter of perspective. Grimlock and Hot Rod have their heads closer to the height of the camera, whereas Magnus is higher up. Add to that the chest jutting out, and you have a perspective that makes you think he has no neck. It'll probably look fine if you don't display him so your eyes are below his stomach. Check out panel 49, where your perspective is eye level with his. He has a neck, albeit a red one.

Can't help but still think that the BB movie one is better. I guess RotB is better if you just take the Robot mode, but the BB movie one does so well at representing both modes. Probably the truck mode with the cleanest and best proportioned rear part, aside from this G1 retooling we just got.

Kinda wish they had done the same thing for that mold and simply improved it. Or at least had used that as a basis for their Masterpiece version instead of whatever they used instead...

Toy Prime has vents and I like the vents.
But Cartoon Prime has a grey nose, and I prefer the nose grey.

I suck at painting my figure and at the price they cost I am not tempting anything of the sort on it.
Also, I think the shape of the faceplate of cartoon Prime look better. The one issue is the lack of vents.

I'll always have a soft spot for SS38, especially related to the toy hunts I used to go on at that time to look for him. I've seen pictures, and it does improve the look, though the BB Prime still has a better truck mode. That said, it also makes some other changes and really loads him up with weapons.

Agree, but I personally found the voyagers actively harmed by being triple changers. The only good voyagers were the horror cons which had the benefit of coming later (apeface) or being in another line (snapdragon)

What it ultimately comes down to is that the toy deco actually utilizes those sculpted sticker details instead of just letting them go completely to waste. They look better than had there been nothing at all but not picking them out with paint still looks drab. The other thing is that making this with toon colors feels like it's entirely missing the point of the figure. It's the G1 toy but with updated engineering to give it actual articulation so of course it looks better to paint it up like the G1 toy instead of like the toon.

To be fair, this satisfies an entirely different niche than an MP. I have MP-10 as well but I also have a dozen other versions of Prime at MP scale, not to replace it, but to have different takes on the character. This is really no different and is really more of a gimmick piece than anything because it's not designed to pair with anything but other figures if they decide to do more Missing Link figures. It's a solo act you buy because you think it's neat, not to fill a hole.

Or you could just paint the eyes and crotch. Seems like it would be far cheaper than buying an entire second figure just for two parts and since the it's two small details, it'd be just as much effort as actually taking things apart to swap them.

I had several chances to get him for dirt cheap not too long after release but passed every time. Then I spotted Overlord going on clearance everywhere and picked him up cheap and realized just how fucking fun that mold was and how I would have rather had it as Sky Shadow. By then it was too late and Sky Shadow was going up in price again.

Super fucking weird that they keep doing this. I don't believe for a second that they did it just for the sake of him being able to come apart like SS86 Kup. There has to be some other reason why they reused CW joints of all things for this.
