Pic related somewhat, it has been done before but any and all stretchy characters/one piece characters would be hard to do.

Bandai can do stretchy characters (see figuarts luna trigger). They just don't want to invest the money into them. Best Luffy figure is the IW. Doesn't have stretch limbs but at least has haki parts.

Superman. They always get him wrong one way or another. Poor articulation, ugly faces, bad proportions, inaccurate costume details, etc. There's always something holding back any given Superman figure from greatness.

I can't think of a specific named character right now but basically something that's a gooey blob that isn't human shaped. You can kinda make a figure that can do a few limited things but it won't be able really capture some of the stuff it should be able to do with its form factor.

the best example that comes to mind is Thrakkorzog from the Tick toyline. The guy was basically a giant lump of slime in the cartoon.

It's just the fault of the people in charge not wanting to get him right or outright disliking the character for some reason.
Mafex could've made the definite classic Superman, they were one smiling head away from it, but they based him on a run centered around BATMANBATMANBATMANBATMANBATMANBATMANBATMANBATMAN where he is evil and always grimacing.

Shapeshifters are impossible to make outside of their base forms. I want a stretchy Luffy too, but that would require constant part-swapping. I prefer to just own characters that look good as they are.

im still baffled by how many japanese companies went for comic designs over DCAU designs when every DCAU design you could think of is better suited to japanese engineering. By now we should have gotten yamaguchi BTAS figures and some how we instead got nolan bats and new52 bats.

The DCAU designs are hell to make articulated figures out of, meanwhile the Nolan movies were huge internationally. Not that the Japanese totally don’t care about about the DCAU, but it wasn’t super popular over there

I dont disagree but of all the toy engineers around nowadays the japanese have the best chance of making those designs work as toys. look how badly DCC and Mcfarlane fucked up in their attempts. honestly its enough to make me wish we could go back to 5 poa dcau figures. regardless dcau designs have more in common with anime than they do standard capeshit designs. erego people who spend their whole lives sculpting and engineering moeshit would knock those designs out of the park.

these two suffer from the exact same issue. if not clear limbs then my only other idea would be magnets. wouldnt look as good as clear limbs but its something. kirby got away with it.
