I was actually okay leaving those dark parts brown, but the rest yeah.
there must be some kind of internal budget thing for the 2-pack, so dinobot got most of the new paint and tarantulas has to merely have the back of his head and his outer thighs painted up properly (and his chest looks like a different shade from the rest of him) while his knees and inner thighs remain as unpainted as before.

he does look good. I guess I'll repaint my old tarantulas into a red-kneed tarantch or something else. I forget how his head is hidden, I probably wouldn't be able to use the TM2 inferno head from antagony to make it a visibly different guy, would I?

Not as noticeable for sure, but the regular Tarantulas release also has metallic paint on the chest, it's subtle but you can tell it's there is you look closely.

Didn't know this is a two pack, I guess I'll have to get another Tarantulas just for Dinobot. Doesn't bother me all that much because I have a soft spot for him, the original was my first BW toy back in the day.

and unlike some of my repaint jobs, I do not feel like I sank a ton of energy into something wasted here. Mixing the gold and green was the hardest part, but i did not do a passable job on him and I'm happy to have a second crack at it.
let's see, good color scheme for his old one.. wait shit, is it okay if I post pictures of spoodlers? you can't spoiler images on /toy/ and I know some people get the heebiejeebies. and unlike modern 'triggers' those people actually number more than like, five per million.
maybe i'll just post possible species to pattern on

The whole symbol is slightly off-centered to the left (like a millimeter or so), but both halves connect perfectly and that's what really matters.
I've seen that pic with the emblem that looked like pic related and was a tad nervous when I checked the dino head as I transformed it for the first time, but on mine it's fine.

I heard they're fresh new prints of the molds with better qualities because JP and Takara actually gives a shit and was disappointed stuff like Origins Bee and SG Starscream/Megatron yellowed and pissed off a ton of JP Collectors .

BBTS is a bit of double-edged sword for me.
On the one hand, they're less likely to run out of stock double-quick (lord knows how) and have nice little sale every so often.

On the other hand since I'm from bongland, I have to pay stupid amounts for shipping and tax. And it usually takes ages to arrive on pre-order, even after the stated release date has passed.
They're usually reliable though.

There was one line of BTAS figures from DC themselves that looked spot on to the show but were fragile and nearly almost completely unposable, and then there are the posable McFarlane ones that have McFarlane's sculptors trying miserably to emulate the cartoon, despite them being completely unable to sculpt stylized figures. DC is totally fucked as far as toys go. I don't know how things ended up this bad

yeah exactly. They can't win. it's best to just get close, evoke it, but change it to work for a toy. just as the show's artstyle was making changes to work for a cartoon. Hell the old toyline seemed about right back then, though of course it didn't have to deal with more than 5poa articulation, and capes could be real cloth..

Bay, Lorenzo, and the rest of the production crew are literal unironic retards who don't understand stories. Bay can't even keep the story in one movie coherent, much less carry it across multiple movies. And Bumblebee was supposed to be a reboot but Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who had been pushed out for Bumblebee, clawed his way back in to push for the Bayverse to come back.

Now the Bayverse is blowing its load by pitting G.I.Joe against Unicron in a movie that's performed worse than the entire rest of the franchise. The movies are fucked. Maybe 10 years down the line once these fuckers are dead we can get some passable movies

I took my basic model kit pliers and snipped off that random bump on the sword handle, i dont know if that was for something or was just mold flash but it was annoying

As for the rest, does anyone know where the two tabs on the crossguard connect to? Same thing with the two holes on the disc and the bits on its handle, i cant figure out what they all connect to

Getting movie versions of Armada / Energon / Cybertron characters (and getting a palate cleanser from 2007 Bumblebee and "evergreen" designs) would be great. Retire Bumblebee for Hot Shot, get a "realistic" Cybertron Optimus, go more Sci-Fi with the earth setting instead of being "grounded"... It'd be something different from the Bayslop. Bayslop had good transformer design, fight scenes & CGI for the first three movies, but the erratic tone and puerility overstaid it's welcome before the first movie even finished.

Sword goes underneath between his legs, and the axe goes on top near the trailer hitch (though that'll block access to it so it's better to just put it in the trailer)
Pretty sure the instructions detail this stuff, I always make sure to check them for weapon storage

Dunnoe. The fossilisers were neat on their own, or at least with other Kingdom figures they were designed to combine with, but otherwise they're just....unremarkable.
Still, I got enjoyment out of Paleotrex and Ractonite.

The movie franchise has been a gigantic missed opportunity. It’s pathetic they abandoned Bumblebee’s premise and storytelling aesthetic when it’s the only movie in the franchise that even gets within a city block of the animated 1986 one. G1 was pretty simple, but some its episode plots are better than the modern movies. There’s so much they could do with Transformers instead of defaulting to robots hitting one another. I’m only surprised they never added the Rock to the cast: he’s the ideal plug-in actor for dumb franchises.

Idw ended their first continuity back 2018 and had a brief second one that started in 2019 that ended when they lost the IP rights. As for current runs there’s the energon universe by sky bound which kinda started with void rivals which had a guest appearance with jet fire in it but the first official transformers comic in that new universe is coming out in October. As for best or most canon it’s either the marvel UK comics or the 2005 idw continuity. Marvel UK from what I understand setup a lot of characters and concepts early on like primus and unicron being his brother and IDW is just all around pretty good with the phase 2 of the series being a big standout. Idk why you mean by canon since the franchise is just one big multiverse with different continuities.

All the older comics are finished or discontinued, the new comic universe has only just started

The original g1 comics by marvel have 2 somewhat different continuities, the us and uk versions. They also did a small generation 2 run, these follow their own version of the original cartoon plot and also crossover with other marvel stuff.

The next major comics were dreamwave which only ran for a few years and were a new take on g1 that combined the comics, cartoon and new ideas

Then idw got the license and they produced comics from 2005 to last year, creating a completely original expanded universe, people here will get their panties in a twist over using the wiki but its your best bet on getting a complete reference list

The idw series basically starts with being in the traditional g1 war on earth and across the universe, then the war ends and it explores a couple different ideas

One is the reconstruction of a post war cybertron where the autobots, decepticons, and non aligned other transformers who fled during the war all try to learn to live together and rebuild while shit keeps happening.

Another is the story of the ship lost light, captained by rodimus and megatron who set off to find the lost knights of cybertron hoping to help rebuild their people and getting involved in all sorts of stuff.

Theres also stuff like whats happening on earth after the war including optimus who was banished from cybertron and kinda goes through a "what have i done" thing.

Eventually they all come together in a big finale with unicron appearing which ended the story in 2018

Idw did a second brand new continuity in 2019 but it didnt get far before they lost the license.

The newest series being produced by Skybound has only just debuted, its gonna be a new universe with other hasbro properties like gi joe, the official title i think is energon universe, it started with a new ip called void rivals

Id add that if youre looking for a random place to jump in with idw give The Wreckers saga a read, you don't really need to know anything, its pretty self contained and really well loved, but can get much grittier than most of the other stuff.

Mtmte is really popular and follows a more comedic flow, but can still get plenty dark when it wants to, and it does a pretty decent job of being self contained thanks to being removed from the big cybertron plot but a lot of the character dynamics make more sense with more context.

On the other end, most people agree that the phase 1 (during the great war) era stuff is good enough but has way too much human shit and all hail megatron especially is considering boring by a lot of people.

If you don't mind reading an abruptly unfinished continuity, you should give the Dreamwave comics a shot.
In a way it's the first of what can be considered modern Transformers storytelling and there's not a lot of it anyway.

Standard autobot decepticon war but megatron is a bit more religious, he has faith in primus amd the 13 primed and is somewhat conflicted over the things he does. War goes to earth, and he finds out that unicron is earth itself and by extension, man kind is the spawn of unicron. This changes his priorites completely, and the decepticon cause is now this holy crusade against mankind. Some decepticons don’t really care for the crusade or this cause and split off into another faction lead by shockwave. Megatron wants man dead because they’re in his eyes demons and Optimus defends them because the usual freedom and life in the universe is sacred stuff.

Star Wars is a bad comparison. There is one main set of films, and lots of other things that are treated as secondary. Transformers started out with both comic and TV show that are completely different, and continues with many different stories going forward.

All I want out of a Transformers series is one where the Autobots are a proper and organized army who actually go out and do good deeds besides just fighting Decepticons, They forge alliances with alien races, they openly reveal themselves to governments in good faith (robots in disguise should be a Decepticon tactic) and are generally recognized as peacekeepers, like space blue berets.
I really like the idea of the Autobots and Decepticons being these vast organizations with multiple fronts happening across the galaxy now that their war spilled off-world. Far too many series nowadays boil them down to a handful of chucklefucks stranded on Earth while the rest of their fucking race is off doing who knows what who knows where.

Oh yeah, on the point of transformers "canon", the big issue here is that the canon is new for every series basically, right from the start the marvel comic deviate substantially from the cartoon, so each thing is its own pocket continuity.

The main driver of "canon" is the original cartoon including the movie from 1986, thats pretty much the baseline of tf lore.

The marvel comics, dreamwave comics and idw comics are all just as different as the follow up cartoons like car robots and armada, just using the same general ideas in their own ways.

Hasbro briefly attempted to create one big canon that is called the Aligned Continuity that almost immediately shat the bed, its supposed to create a single canon from the games War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron and the show Prime, but then also gets mixed up in a dozen spinoffs and hasbro eventually gave up on it, as far as im aware, basically all the recent kiddy shows (rid 2015, cyberverse, and even rescue bots) take place vaguely in the Aligned Continuity, but they dont care about maintaining coherence.

In japan theyve twisted themselves into insane knots over this weird desire to make everything ever take place in one canon that creates all sorts of silly time loops and whatnot, but in the west we just accept each thing as a mostly self contained canon that sometimes borrow from or reference eachother

I'd like to see a series with no established characters at all, all entirely new. Same setting and locations, maybe different factions or no factions at all idk.

Animation would be traditionally cel animated by a reputable Japanese studio, either as a show or a series of movies. Robots will be more traditional looking than the more stylized recent series'. Humans can be involved but the focus is the cybertronians. Not overtly adult in the swearing/sex filled sense, it's violent and there is gore but it can have light moments and humor too.

This is mostly so we could get new characters with new altmodes.

Christ, what a turbochad this guy is. I agree with that anon who told me his feet kinda sucked. They have a neat geared hinge so that the front and back transform in unison, but as cool as that is, I feel like it'd be easier to stabilize him if you could position them separately. That's really my only actual complaint though. It's a high-quality bot with a fun, chunky transformation, and loaded with great details, all around.

Have the plot take place after the war ended, follow a group of obscure or relatively-unknown characters (could theme the main characters after UT as opposed to MTMTE's 86 cast even, lol) on some cosmic adventure, and each episode would be some brand new action setpiece with space or alien bullshittery that we never get to see in the main series. Though, I want alien planets to be a bigger setpiece, a la Galaxy Force. No humans, but if there MUST be one, then just straight-up make it Kicker - if not in name, then absolutely in spirit. I also feel cucked by The Scavengers having barely been in the comic despite being arguably more interesting, so I absolutely want a more direct B-plot of Decepticon fuckoffs trying to make do, running concurrently with the main cast.
For the normies, I would like to have a few cuts to either Earth or Cybertron to see how more popular characters are doing, with some of the Autobots/Decepticons taking more relaxed positions, but not necessarily actionless; I'm imagining Optimus having a small team of guys doing superheroics on Earth in particular, similar to Fire Convoy in Car Robots or the Animated cast, but without the fighting. Maybe they'd call themselves Rescue Bots lol, with a couple newbies having never fought in the war, and then there'd be some Decepticon goon who thinks the war is still on coming to Earth, and the newbies would just have their innocence shattered by having a dude punch them and having to see Optimus get his knuckles bloody. Lmao.

It's not quite like that; they've also got several different universes just like us. It's just that they have supplemental material that has characters from between universes crossing over, which they mostly try to avoid retconning; sort of like a large franchise-engulfing version of FunPub's multiverse-spanning plot.
The most "revisionism" they've done that I know of was marketing Animated as in the same universe as the 2007 movie, but that was only because they were both from the same year and they wanted to avoid brand confusion, I think.

I just hate that everytime they bring beast wars back lately its mixed with G1. But I really like what animater did with Blackarachnia and Waspinator. I also really like his proprietary weapon ports. We're used to everything being 5mm for the sake of convenience lately, but this guy makes a great case for the utlility of other kinds of ports, particilarly the flexible weapon mounts on his forearms. Also just realized they designed the ends of these barrels to be removable with a pinned mount made from flexible plastic, presumably to keep them from being broken or damaged if you angle the blasters without disengaging them first. I keep forgetting to fold in the working, rolling landing gear on his knees, too. This figure is full of extra parts for the sake of convenience. Regardless of this toy's inherent limitations, you can tell this was an era where they really weren't pinching pennies and didn't mind increasing the parts count for the sake of a few minor details.

Overall though the theme with my dream show is just "do more original stories atypical for the franchise, draw more attention to the existing obscurer parts", hence why I wanna use a version of that theme lol. Other countries (Japan especially) get a fuckin bounty of awesome songs for TF, while all we English-speakers get are rehashes of the American 80s theme, some forgettable "whatever" instrumentals like Prime and Cyberverse had, or at the very best:

It's telling that most younger English fans are most nostalgic for the Linkin Park music the early films used, as opposed to anything actually original to TF musically (Linkin Park does fuckin rock, but that's besides the point lmao).

Armada OP doesn't have a monkey mode, but his design embodies aspects of both G1 Optimus Prime and Beast Wars Optimus Primal whether intentional or unintentional

The parrallels with BW OP get's even stronger whether intentional or unintentional when Optimus gets his Powerlinx colour scheme and ends up looking a bit like Optimus Primal. The colours aren't applied in the same place but Armada OP's Powerlinx colour scheme is like a mix between G1 and BW OP colours. I would mention the fact Armada OP is voiced by Gary Chalk but that seems to be a coincidence rather than intentionally planned.

Bah shit I swore I said it in my description earlier, but apparently I didn't: anyway, the villains would mainly be other transformers for the first season (bounty hunters, decepticons, even autobots), but the finale would be a cliffhanger to reveal the true antagonists: the GoBots. It would be revealed that they have been slowly assimilating into Cybertronian society and planting themselves in powerful positions in order to take over the planet, Secret Invasion style. The second season would focus on how the Guardians would try to gain the main cast's favor, and taking down the Renegades' conspiracy in a way that doesn't spell total annihilation for either race.
I fucking love the concept of the GoBots and how they differ from Cybertronians both in origin and anatomically, and I really wanna put them in a mainstream story where they'd get to shine and be taken seriously as a concept, as opposed to just an 80s cartoon nobody remembers and a handful of really good prose stories and comics.

Yeah pretty much, they abandoned that idea pretty quickly for a reason. There's pretty much no case I could think of where that type of joint would be preferable over just a standard universal hip. Earthspark is peak transformers. For years I wanted deluxe class prime bee etc. I think deluxe having main characters is really cool and the art style is very nostalgic for me. Everything looks like back at the barnyard or anything from illumination.

The ES deluxes are better than legacy deluxes. Most legacy deluxes (Insecticons, combiner parts) have been terrible
For one series its pretty cool to see what 3d cartoon TFS would look like if they were just modified g1.

The final part of the show was really good. I hated the first part. Grimlock is played by fucking spawn.

I like that the decepticons become the good guys, while the Autobots are evil. Not even just mind control. The Autobot imprisonment is morally wrong.

Ten years from now the earthspark toys will be hundreds of dollars.

Everything woke is dropped in the last part. Now its a conservative story like it was always supposed to be, about family values, and opposing big government.

I'm very hopeful for season 2.

Some of them are my favorite designs. Megatron, Rattrap, Cheetor, and Tarantulas. There's also Waspinator and Inferno which didn't appear in the show. The TM2's didn't do much for me, though some still had that transmetal aesthetic.

Decepticons are sidelined in the kiddie shows, and he generally only cameos in them, so unlikely to get new toys.

As far as the mainline goes his altmode is strange and they need to integrate his tape gimmick so he's a more expensive to develop toy, and Wal-Part pays out the nose for exclusive molds.
