>>10587555It flopped because it was a high concept sci-fi story with an attempted deep introspective personal plot where it should have been a fun campy space romp with a guy in a glowing space suit. On it's face it wasn't that bad of a story or film, it just had no business being a "Buzz Lightyear" movie. If it was a completely original IP done by a non-disney animation studio, it probably would've done a lot better.
That said, the toys were actually a lot of fun, especially at discounted prices. The characters had some cool designs, the bots were pretty badass and the ships and vehicles were all really nice with their toys having a lot of play value and gimmicks. It's kind of a shame the line was dropped so hard because they toys were way better then the film itself.
