the rhino mode has got tiny little front feet, it bugs me so. and his hind legs are just weird.
I guess if I can squint my way into liking cheetor's ridiculous altmode, I can make myself like this one, since at least it looks like a cool mecha animal, just.. not a proper rhino. I think she was fun, before her friendship with Skids got erased. Do we know what the idea was with that? With LL being rushed to end at issue #25, I wouldn't doubt it if this was meant to be developed further but they didn't have the time, but it's still a confusing decision to me. Was it meant to just be tragic and not read into more, simple as?

Cool. Probably not fitting for a SS figure of an existing design for sure, but I like designs that randomly have bits of the body fully in transparent plastic. They should make up new transformers designs that do that.

everything else, it's subject to opinion. I find both modes' regular bodies lackluster and dumb, both too regular and too irregular. Except the robot head, which is outstanding. to the point people are building adapters to swap it onto their classic inferno.

well actually I watched a review, and in-hand the colors are totally different. the silver is more off-gold, and the weird grayish brown is actually dark navy blue. so that's great, that's one of the color schemes I was gonna try on him.
What bugs me is the way the beast mode knees look, they're kinda bad no matter how you arrange them, and he inexplicably has swappable beast mode hands except they're exactly the same size. so we didn't solve the small-gorilla-hands problem at all.

he has a good robot mode with fun theming, and honestly his beast mode isn't too bad from some angles. but the gimmick is dumb, the weapon is weird, wasting huge amounts of the beast mode on gigantic pylons is just weirdballs, and his robot mode legs are literally just the beast mode legs wearing homestar-style glue-on soles, which are actually MORE visible in beast mode.

Sigh. I'm not gonna call MTMTE/LL the best thing evar, far from it, I've got several gripes regarding it; but like, it's still one of the few TF stories that genuinely felt like it was made with passion and love for the franchise behind it. Looking at uninspired slop like RotB, the Netflix shows, and Earthspark... christ if they can't write something good, fuck, just go adapt something that already is at this point. Maybe a second chance would even give it the ability to iron out its rougher parts...

Well as I'm trying to recover on a common cold I cracked out Hot Shot and Jolt. Yeah 75AUD for this is probably too much but it's an exclusive and I don't know if it'll get reissued. I waited for the Buzzworthy Bumblebee rerelease of SS-44 Optimus to go on sale and by the time it did it was all gone.

First thing that annoys me is out of the box, Hot Shot's visor is set right to the back of the head. Secondly, the Jolt Minicon is a damn good toy, way more fun to play with than the Siege Micromasters and doesn't have much kibble so nothing really gets in the way in articulation. And thirdly the new guns, appreciate the fact the two new guns are actually modelled after the guns Hot Shot used during his infiltration to the Decepticon HQ by himself. I would've asked for a bigger and single handle version of his engine gun but they're good enough, only problem is they don't sit well on the backpack since I doubt the toy was made for them to begin with. But at least you can fold out the Axelzooka to keep them secured.

I still think Hot Shot should've had the Minicon peg on a hinge so that it points upwards in robot mode and you can slap any Minicon on it to give him a back mounted turret of sorts. But whether intentional or not Jolt does come with a 5mm peg so Hot Shot can wield him (I'll take pictures of that later) and if you move the Axelzooka out so that the 5mm port is pointed upwards, Jolt can attach to that and Hot Shot can fly.

Optimus, Hot Shot and Red Alert were the three "primary" Autobots from Transformers Armada.

Optimus got two different toys during Armada's run, one with a trailer that combined into a supermode and one that didn't combine but had better poseability. He also got a new Legacy Leader figure.

Hot Shot got his Armada Figure, a Universe figure and a new figure in Legacy.

Red Alert only got one figure during Armada (not counting his recolor) and nothing else.

I've noticed that on the robot biceps/elbow portion. Theres definitely a use of two different plastics for the yellow.
I assume you're talking about the dino head?
Having looked at it I don't spot anything like that on my copy.

The overall silhouette seems about right. One hand can easily be swapped out for a laser gun thing. And the rest can store on his back.

All it would mean is the roof gets remolded to be taller, boxier. And the chest piece would be remolded to look less like an engine block and more like two faux headlights.

And then the head.

Thats it. That's all it would take.

Fuck scale, this isn't Studio Series. Look at Axelgrease and Scraphook. Axelgrease makes sense for the scale but Scraphook is meant to be a whole truck, which should be much larger.

Why would Hasbro waste money on a new mold for a c-list character nobody even cared about when Armada was new? He's literally never been revisited apart from once where they made him a woman because he was that forgettable the first time around.

He's been a deluxe before, it wouldn't be a problem. I can totally see Shadow Striker getting remolded and all of you buying it up anyway.

Your hairddryer is your friend, anon. What I would do is get a pair of tweezers to hold the part while you heat it up (be careful, if it escapes your grip it could be sent across the room!). Once it is good and hot squeeze it SLIGHTLY to reform it back into shape. That should set it back into tollerance for the clip to work.

That seemed to be a common issue with the standard release too.
Like >>10589573 said, best use some heat to get the visor malleable and something to hold it tight enough and get back into shape.

other than that the powerlinx deco pops so much more than the solid yellow, I look forward to getting it inhand.

Obviously they where going for this when they first made these for G2 but I love the fact the deco just screams that its a toy, showing them moving away from the G1 releases that where meant to be realistic alt modes.

Thanks anon, I have the same reservations about the Seeker mould but for some reason I find the coneheads to be much more endearing.
I'll be picking up the rest of their reissues and hope they make the remaining jungle and stealth deco coneheads sooner or later

The mechanical workings of Grimlock's neck through the translucent orange is such a cool detail, I understand that's something they kept for the released G2 dinobots.
I hope the translucent plastic reflects each individual colour scheme, so Swoop having green translucent plastic and so on.

Yeah, inhand I wasn't able to appreciate them as much but looking closer at the pics it does tie the car mode colours together quite nicely.
If they where grey or black that would've been too plain.

I think they could've given G2 Sideswipe those very same swords that SG Sideswipe has, that also would've been a great look and more weapons are appreciated.

Technically to be truly accurate you're supposed to leave it on Doubledealer in robot mode while you hide away Knok in his chest. That whole ab section is basically fake kibble of Knok himself from the old toy.
You take it off and give it to Knok while in vehicle or bird mode. The gap it leaves behind in vehicle mode is even accurate to the original toy since that's where the powermasters would fit.

I think the SG version definitely has better paint apps, especially in dino mode, while the G2 one looks rather plain, being mostly unpainted yellow. But SG also has an opaque neck piece which looks really bland and ruins one of the coolest features of the original toy and Grimlock's design in general, so I'm kinda undecided.

I suppose if I had to pick I'd take G2 just because I love obnoxious '90s stuff, but it's a moot point as I'm not in the market for a Grimlock anyway.

Quality is about what you'd expect from a good Bandai kit or something. I don't have Windblade but the parts are all really nice on Arcee, the hip-thigh connectors actually have metal pins in them as reinforcement. Some of the nubs needed attention to get them shaped well off the sprue but it wasn't anything crazy.

Her range of motion is huge and her feet are wide enough to stand pretty easily in most poses. Makes me want other kits from the same line honestly, they have a nice style.

What gets me is that they went out of their way to fix the deco on both molds and gave Prowl the right head, but on a couple of battle damaged figures that aren't meant to go on anyone's normal collection.

That's one thing, but this mold fucked up much more:

-Overall worse profile due to changes to the design
-Weapons consolidates so now the bumper blaster is gone, only the bumper remains and now the knife gun has to do double duty as the attachment for the bumper gun. Because of this, the knife now looks like shit. No missile accesory to complete the bumper gun either.
-Awful car mode
-Car doors should have been able to fold on themselves to clean up the back more.

I still find it weird that they did that with the neck, and not just with the SG version of the mold - his normal colored version also has it painted over with gold, which is made stranger by the fact that they actually sculpted all of his greebles underneath, which makes it look like the original intent had been to use clear plastic from the start. Just can't wrap my head around Hasbro's thought process sometimes...

Development for Grimlock was changed several times. Late in development, they changed their minds on the clear plastic since they wanted cartoon accuracy with the colors, it's why he's the only one who has it. Then they decided to change the yellow to gold because it looked nicer.

The reasoning is simple, they painted the SS86 neck to be toon accurate and the SG neck to be accurate to Classics Grimlock.
The neck detail was there in case they wanted to make a more toy accurate version and the G2 Grimlock was how it materialized.

It was even lazier because it wasn't a retool, they added the Road Rocket head as the alternate head of the mold and threw in a ninja star on Arcee's arm blade/Frisbee disk thing. I really wanted to like the SG Grimlock, but they didn't follow the colors well enough from the original release (going from silver to white was a bad choice) and they didn't retool anything, making it less of a draw than many other SG toys.

It needed a new Dino head and the classics gun with an extra 5mm peg so it can hold it like a sword.

Painted the leg armor on my Kingdom Ultra Magnus. I definitely bit off more than I could chew this time around, but it somehow worked out in the end. The blue paint doesn’t quite match, but as long as you don't look too closely it doesn't stand out. I still don't get why Hasbro needed to cut this many corners on the kingdom release.

Depends on where you draw the line of the canon. In the 3H continuity, Tarantulas actually survived getting blown apart (which makes sense - it's happened numerous times before on the show, including when he was standing point-blank next to Ravage's ship's exploding Transwarp Drive) and went on to start a second phase of the Beast Wars right after Primal and co. returned to Cybertron while gaining Vok powers; there was a whole thing with him and Primal Prime waking up all of those forgotten Stasis Pods during the events of Beast Machines, and he survived THAT and went on to kick off the 2006 Universe storyline, which takes place after Primal and Megs die and the Great Reformatting happens; then he goes universe-hopping for a bit to help kidnap people for Unicron's Cauldron, and after a showdown with Silverbolt and Blackarachnia before ambiguously slinking off, possibly surviving THAT ordeal as well. So he may have actually both outplayed AND outsmarted Megatron in the end, too, if you consider those comics canon to the BW-BM continuity.

Iirc, while Shockwave as a character predated him, Tarantulas was a mad scientist long before that portrayal of the former was a thing.

They're apparently looking into doing another for Studio Series, so maybe wait for that if none of the current ones work for you. Core one is a fun little figure but the backpack is pretty bad and inaccurate, the Weaponizer is closer but out of scale and simplified.
