I have this set, i really enjoyed them, the paint work is excellent on the mastodon and the new skull really set it apart from the previous versions of that base. And Leadfoot was my first time with the Mirage mold, its got some slightly iffy feet/shins but overall he looks great and the transformation is interesting

Leadfoot has some awesome metallic blue paint. Masterdominus is ok, but he's the Ractonite mold, so his playability as armor for Leadfoot is pretty limited. They both look pretty cool, though, and are worth grabbing along with the Impactor and Spindle two-pack; I also recommend the Bulkhead from the Wreck N' Rule collection if you're just grabbing Wreckers, since he's pretty fun all on his own.

I can't get behind the weird-colored skeletons other than Tricranius because like, the others you can squint and pretend this makes sense as a semi magical living skeleton transformer, a bio scanner that fucked up about as hard as it could.. but once the colors get all broken up it's just not the same

Had to dig out this Human Alliance dude out of a box to compare but yeah, they're almost the same scale with Spike. It must be uncomfortable in an exo suit, probably have to wear a catheter too. I was never a fan of that Mirage mold, but Leadfoot's deco really saved it for me. One of the few figures I'd highly recommend the Toyhax sticker set for since he looks a bit bland without some proper race-car livery, and the stickers really crank up the "G2" vibe. The metallic one for his visor is particularly cool.

And Masterdominus is just okay. He's not as good as making weapons as the other bonerizers, but his colors are neat, and he's still literally a robot mammoth fossil, which has got to count for something.

Tried to make a new face, but its uses pins to connect to the mane, so you'd have to replace the whole head, that would easily mean a $30+ kit, I doubt theres enough people willing to pay that much.

The Legacy can't do that. Aside from the flip out blasters the mane is static. The original had four sections open up on the top, bottom and sides that were used for the spinning gimmick.

Are you being retarded on purpose? The Legacy toy does exactly what you describe, the smaller tubes are meant to be missiles and they can flip over if you use the top part of the mane.

no my point is, i don't like flipping-over like that, I'd prefer something more similar to movie starscream's forearms. I realize that's more complicated, but you can simplify it by having a single panel lift up to show the missile. With the hinge on the LONG side of the panel, see. opening outward, not flipping forward.

better would be gently sanding the ball joint a tiny, tiny amount at a time until it's no longer slightly-too-big-for-its-socket assuming that actually is the problem.

It just needs a thicker eyebrow and snoot, I really recommend you try to fix it with epoxy or air dry cly, they're really forgiving tools and you'll have more than enough time to re sculpt, air dry cly can be fully removed with water if you want to re start, just remember to paint it and seal it with clear acrylic paint when you're done.

Also, in numerous area's I've had to pass on buying some figures second hand for cheap because they're ruined by the ugly ass decals slapped all over them and I'm not spending more on them when I plan to remove the gaudy decals anyways
The one one I got decent was a Legacy Velocitron Cosmos like $40 but it's missing Gun/Flag and was covered in ugly ass "Decals"
I removed most but some I admit look good when it's just them.
This being some silver and light blue and some "lights" design

In my case i started collecting dinobots(g1) and then maximals and some predacons. I also go the legacy core pretenders but i feel like i'm starting many collections that i will not finish(will be a miracle to get SS 86 grimlock)...

It depends on the individual sticker set. For a long time they were making too many obnoxious, arbitrary designs that ended up just covering actual sculpted detail. And they don't really print on the highest quality paper; they look like absolute trash on an MP. I've still bought a few sets, though. The ones for TR Rewind are actually decent, especially the gold foil bits. The set for G2 Leadfoot is pretty worthwhile as well. I almost never use the entire sheet, though, and they can often be repurposed.

I don't know if Ocean Designs still makes their uprade decals. Those are great quality, they almost look like actual tampographs. I bought a few sheets of their faction badges and I get tons of use out of 'em.

I collect toys that look cool and/or seem really fun. I try my best to avoid any duplicates of a single mold or more than
one toy of a character. I make exceptions when a redeco/remold is substantially good or different (T30 Sandstorm and Springer) and/or when the characters are only the same in name but otherwise very different (g1 Optimus vs car robots Optimus). I also do my best to avoid checklist thinking, i don't try to collect all of a line just because, or get a toy i otherwise dont care for just because its a name i dont have yet. I also try to stick to a single general scale unless a toy is a real standout. I like mainline cuz i can mix 3p with official, but there are a few exceptions where a legends or mp toy seems too good to pass up on, even if it doesnt fit the rest of my collection.

Other than transformers, i collect the occasional model kit (gundam, zoids, assorted roboty stuff), non tf robots like beast box and in a very rare case ill grab an occasional nendo or figma or something like that. Im also a sucker for a cute plush

I bought some really nice chinese modified-bootlegs with all new armor pieces that turned them into wholly different animals, and I want them to go back and do that for some of the classic kits. these days there are no more simple kits, just expensive masterpiece kits and expensive master-grade kits with iffy proportions.. though those are getting better.

Just got mine in today, too. First SG figures I've ever bought, and imo probably the best yet too. I read FunPub's SG stories recently and fell in love with it, and I'm especially glad Sideswipe here is based off the Armada character like the original SG, rather than "G1 design but with different colors" like IDW's Shattered Glass (and by proxy, most of the earlier SG figures lately).

It should hold if you engage all the tabs and don't touch it, but I still didn't feel like leaving mine combined because the chest is held together by two big pieces of clear plastic.

You could also get the TDW addon kit, it turns the torso into a brick which should work fine if you're just leaving it on a shelf.

Honestly this is specifically the reason I watched them. They're pretty retarded/forgettable anime series for the most part, but the english dubs are some of the best "so bad it's good" material in existence.

Superion was the least flawed CW combiner so not much other than subpar articulation for the individual bots and ugly elbows for combined mode.

I'd love a new set of Aerialbots if only because I always liked how the limb bots had the nose and tail peg together as a backpack, and the CW toys didn't do that.

I just buy whatever looks like it'd be fun to me.
I didn't really want to get into collecting transformers because I knew they'd take up such a large chunk of my already limited space but I always had my eye on them and eventually took the plunge.
I've always respected transformers since they have that bit of extra value and can offer more than your standard action figure.
theres certainly a lot of fun to be had with them and its great to actually hold them in-hand and transform them.
There is still a tinge of regret since my instinct was right about now having too many to display them all.

Its not my main focus at the moment but I'll be collecting Alternators whenever I happen upon them, seeing as what started it all was finding an Alternators Smokescreen at a con that reminded me of my childhood one.

I got into Transformers through Bayshit about 15 years ago just because I liked realistic/licensed vehicle modes, and I was honestly collecting more as a car guy than a bot guy, but now I'll pretty much buy anything as long as I think it looks cool or interesting. I still put a lot of value on solid alt modes., however.

Since I got into collecting solely through the toys themselves, I don't really have character checklists. There are characters I'm attached to, but I won't buy their toys if I don't think they look worthwhile. I also don't get too caught up in completing sets, especially if they're just retools/repaints of eachother; I never buy more than one Seeker, I have only 2/3rds of the Insecticons, 1/3 of the Monsterbots, and so on. I'm more into building my own squads. If I come across some bot that I think would make a great addition to one of my desk/shelf squads, or even if I think it'll go well alongside one (1) other bot I own, I'm more inclined to buy.

It’s a great toy, and honestly in my opinion the only blackout toy one needs, it’s incredibly accurate, and scales very well with voyager class jets. Will say though, he’s fuckhuge and his instruction sheet is the size of a poster. You won’t be transforming him very frequently. I agree with previous posters that its weird and a shame that blackout didnt expand into other series as a core cast member, he really made a splash in that movie scene imo, deserves the same treatment that bulkhead or lockdown get

Unfortunately he doesn’t really have anywhere to connect a stand to underneath him, so you’d be pretty limited on your choice, especially considering his considerable size and heft. Just so you know for planning this though, he measures about 19” from tail to nose (counting the spike thing, whatever it’s called) and is about 18” from one rotor tip to the other.

Recieved the girls last night from amazon.

Kaskade is exactly what i expected, i passed on every previous version of this mold cuz it looked like shit and it really is.

Huge hollow backpack, weird arm kibble, barely 90 on the elbows, nothing on the wrists with silly sculpting on the hands, huge shin kibble that impedes the knee bend and an alt mode thats just a coffin on wheels with some hands hanging out the back. I do like the colour palette and the new head is cool, but thats hardly anything to write home about.

Javelin is the only reason to by the set, she looks great, the sculpting and shapes are cool and dynamic, the colours pop, the new head is really interesting. Her articulation is fine, the tab on the head pops off really easy but its got a good range of tilt and turn, double jointed elbows, sadly nothing on the wrists again. Knees are only 90 unfortunately and the feet are weirdly small which makes the ankles just a bit weird to pose with. Luckily her backpack compresses really nicely. She also turns into kind of nothing on wheels with hands hanging out the back, but at least its a cool scifi nothing.

The guns they come with are both seperated into multiple modular parts. Javeline's looks better as a rifle but its seperate parts dont do anything alone, and it looks a little off in her waify hands.

Kaskade's looks decent in rifle mode, and the base gun looks cool on its own too, not so much for the barrel gun, and she also comes with 3 scopes but the other two dont do shit, thry just peg onto the car, either on the wheels in bot mode or into her neck as boosters in vehicle mode.

The lack of wrists on both of them really impede their ability to look cool posing as snipers.

Id say, if Javeline was sold separately at retail shed be worth it for sure, as a 2 pack, if youre on the fence probably pass, kaskade is just pack filler. Shes the only version of this mold i have so im fine with keeping her as a nice splash of colour in the decepticon ranks

I always like that too. My first intro to Superior was through the Dreamwave comics as a kid, and for some reason, that aspect of his design just appealed to me.

I'm still waiting on the perfect Superion. CW/UW gets some aspects right but lacks articulation/solidity as well as the overall silhouette that I want. TFC Uranos' is also dated and has a very busy and garish color scheme and one of the worst headsculpts, I've ever seen, and those are pretty much your only options for a CHUG Superion. I know there are other 3P takes, but from what I've seen, they're catering to the cartoon crowd and the lack of detail on them just makes them seem so plain (pun intended). Alternatively, that Dream Star version goes in the complete opposite direction, he's so detailed it's visual overwhelming.

He's a classic combiner though, so I think it's inevitable that we get another official stab at him

he is a tiny kitty. i didn't realize the hind legs were immobile. Throwing my thoughts into the mix

Overall, i really like Menasor as a set. He feels great, looks good, has a great shelf presence and poses really well for a combiner with excellent joint tolerances. i dont find any issues with his proportions, nor with the use of trailer. I think he blows every previous official or 3p attempt at mainline scale out.

Individually.
I think Motormaster looks great in both modes, has interesting transformations, poses well, and contributes meaningfully enough into the combined mode to properly feel like the lead member.

Dragstrip is easily the best of the cars, he does everything perfectly and looks good doing it. The splitting in half thing is really cool imo

Dead end is the start of the issues. His upper half looks great, borrowing from Dragstrip but still looking unique, but his legs and feet suck.

Wildrider is even worse. He at least has stunning black and translucent red colours going for him, but its so fucking clearly just the cw transformation again and it really sucks, especially his stupid tiny shoulders and arms that are even worse than the cw mold.

And finally Breakdown, my favourite character of the 5 design wise and the one with the shittiest toy. Unlike Dead End he doesn't even pretend to not be copying Wildrider, who was already just copying the cw Dead End mold. And then this shitty tail fin is a slap in the face.

As a combiner, the thighs are short, the sword is way too short and the doors for the shins was a terrible idea, i wish the cars were on the front to add some colour.

I havent had any breakage, and overall i really recommend the set despite the issues i have.

obviously short thighs can be fine. Gundams have pretty short thighs. But you have to balance it, so you don't even NOTICE how short they are
a huge part of it is knee architecture. If the popliteal is very concave and tapers downward, it gives the appearance of sabatons with high knees, that the rest of the leg is just "in there, in back" when in reality it's just joints allowing for a nice deep knee bend. You won't notice how short the thighs are until you try to make the mech crouch, and realize its heels stick out WAY far behind its ass when they should be touching ass if it was a human. Because how often does a giant mech crouch? how many of them have the ankles for it?

Just so you know, you can store the separated gun bits on her back, the scope and barrel can be stored on the sides of the center piece and then covered with the side parts of her backpack, leaving only the main gun part to be stored on her back or used in her hands.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the instructions since I needed to send my set back (javelin had super loose ankles and torso).

I think it's okay overall, but in comparison it's still much better than anything CW ever shat onto our plates.

I just dislike the trailer leftovers in the combined mode, the combined mode definitely could use some more detail in general. I wanted to buy the reprolabels stickers for it but they split up the combiner stickers between each member, fuck off lmao.

Breakdown also needed more remolding. Not making an entire new mold for him is a given but just painting him to look like a not-countach is cheap as hell. The spoiler being a "weapon" is retarded too but I just cut mine in half and glued it onto his legs.

Oh yeah, absolutely. Not only did they choose to do two remolds but released them both last.
The thing is if you're already dedicated to doing a combiner team this way through the mainline, why not do it properly?
It'll take so much effort to do it all again just to get a proper Dead End and Breakdown.
Wild Rider would still be shit but atleast he would've looked slightly better next to 4 of 5 being decent.

I don't think it's quite that though. Different interpretations have different purposes. The POTP-era pretenders, which are marketed as Prime Masters, look like they're scaled to be about as big as they were in Master Force if you assume that the inner Prime Masters are about human-sized... which doesn't quite correlate to Human Alliance figures or core class Exo-Suite Spike, so maybe there IS quite a conspiracy afoot.
I suspect that if they don't release core or deluxe class figures of the pretenders soon they'll finish them in another line a year or two later. Maybe we'll get core class versions of guys they release as deluxes and vice versa.

Newest haul from the past two weeks!
G2 'Greymon' Grimlock (who I am now calling 'Greylock'), RID Towline, Nacelle, the Jungle Mission 3-pack, the Deadeye Duel 2-pack, AOE Minicon Sling, and (not pictured, because I couldn't fit them all in the same shot) SG Rodimus and Sideswipe with Whisper. I'm just going to do a quick list of impressions instead of a review:
>Nothing new with SG Sideswipe other than the cool sculpted slash on his chest and shock sword things.
>Whisper is awesome - he's a decently articulated little bot with a nice looking alt mode.
>Never got the Hot Rod mold (I wasn't a fan of the original character), so Rodimus is my first experience with it. The shoudlers are a bit stiff looking and should have been spaced further apart, but otherwise he's not bad. I wish there was somewhere to store his Matrix.
>Nothing to say about 'Greylock', other than he's my favorite colored version of this mold so far. Still wish he had his sword, but it's not an issue. I like that they actually made his neck clear thid time so you can see the sculpted details inside.
>Towline is identical to Scraphook, so nothing too special - I love his neon color scheme, though, and you can come kinda close to his old toy by rearranging his pipes.
>Nacelle's colorscheme is awesome, but otehrwise he's just another Siege Seeker; I have no idea why they didn't try modifying the Ramjet mold for him so he'd have his V-TOL wings.
>Airazor is great - I love her bird mode far more than her Kingdom and SS versions, even if she can't fold her wings this time. Robot mode is fun, too, and feels far less boxy than her previous versions.
>Mirage was surprisingly fun. Nice looking car mode, decent robot mode with good articulation, and his back kibble isn't overly-horrendus.
>Sling is Sling. My obsession with this little dragon mold is getting out of hand...

>I already wasn't a fan of the Bayverse Bee, but this one really doesn't do it for me. His backpack hangs off of him weirdly, the crashbar accessoriy is useless, and his car mode looks terrible - his feet are huge and are very visible hanging off the bottom of his car mode along with both of his arms; his hood is all broken up with very visible segments, and that crashbar doesn't like to stay in place. If he wasn't a 'forced' purchase by being bundled with the other two, I would have avoided him entirely.
>Javelin is fun. She's my first experience with the BB Movie Arcee mold, and I like her quite a bit, though I wish her wrists could rotate.
>Kaskade was also my first experience with the Siege Chromia mold. She's...not horrible, but really doesn't have much for a transformation.
Also, while I usually do pretty well with the QC Lottery, it seems karma is catching up to me - my Kaskade came shipped with two right inner forearms, which rendered her left arm completely immobile until I did some surgery to give the joint clearance. Nothing major, but it's a missassembly people may want to keep an eye out for.

Anyway, my favorites here were Grimlock, Javelin, Airazor, Mirage, and Whisper. Oh, and Sling. Bee really isn't that great, and probably wouldn't sell at all if he hadn't been bundled with the rest; Kaskade isn't too bad, but a little boring, and Rodimus could use some better shoulders but is still passable. Nacelle, Sideswipe, and Towline are more of the same (like Grimlock), but they have some nice distinctive colors, if that's your thing; still wish they had done more with Nacelle in particular.

Going by the current precedent, Sunstorm will be the Siege mold since he'll be representing the pilot scene on Cybertron where he logically wouldn't have an Earth mode.
It's supposedly the reason why they don't bust out the ER mold more often, aside from the main three, the coneheads and the generic purple ones, none of the other seekers were actually on Earth in the cartoon.

fair enough, I was just thinking along the lines of combiner groups and how we got a Stunticons 5-pack.
I'm sure Hasbro would be licking their lips at releasing the Dinobots again as a set but as one box set wouldn't be feasible since they're all leaders.

people have been bitching about transparent plastics forever, but honestly I've never had an issue, nor have I heard any real widespread reports of breakage on any of the toys people have complained about recently. Seems like a small faction of hamhanded collectors just likes to spread fear in an attempt to justify their own clumsiness. Either that, or the transparent joints WOULD be a problem over time, but most collectors only transform or play with their bots a few times before sticking them on a shelf to collect dust, so nothing ever gets a chance to break, lol.

Magnificus' deco may be a little plain and the tank mode is a bit meh but it's just a secondary alt mode, not a major attraction.
Alt modes that are in-scale handheld items will always tickle me a certain way that standard vehicle modes can't.

Looking forward to getting that Reflector/Refraktor three pack now, I'm sure he'd be a ton of fun as well.

yeah I see what you mean, they could've just as easily gone that way too.
Breakdown in particular just has those ridiculously chunky proportions, especially the forearms.
It's difficult to determine weight just from images but he looked like he had some heft behind him

I dunno. It's pretty clearly a drill tank. I'm a stickler for alt modes, but even when something doesn't turn into a recognizable vehicle, I can still enjoy it as long as it works within SOME context. Like, picrel definitely looks like something you'd see in a mecha series, so I'm fine with it.

Yeah the jumpstarters and target masters in TR were sick, I should rotate those guys back onto my shelf. There's only so much space, sometimes I wish I had a whole wing in the house dedicated to display behind nice dust-free glass.

They're also fairly chunky at a time when Hasbro was really cheaping out on plastic quantity. I think the fact that there was a flap to cover the transformation gap in the forearm really pleased a lot of people, as well as the legs ending up fairly solid as well. It also had that neat torso-inverting spin move in the transformation that was similar to Triggerhappy's, which is so satisfying to do.

It's definitely one of those bots in my collection that is in zero danger of ever being "replaced", even if a technically "better" version comes out.

It's crazy how such a good toy exists of a character who's original toy was just a gimmick, and which can still be had for dirt cheap last time I checked. I've got the original jumpstarters and I don't think I paid more than $10 for them together.

She's getting at least two repaints/retools as well - as BW Iguanus and Gator Megatron, so if you like the mold, you can expect to see more of it in the future.

I did, too, until I had it in hand. The thing I hated more about the Hasbro version, though, was the terrible fucking white plastic. It was so milky and semi-translucent, it just completely ate up all the sculpted detail on his torso and legs. I tried doing some panel lining with a gundam pen to bring out the detail, and the plastic was so shitty and porous that it actually absorbed the ink from the pen and diffused it beyond the panel lines and completely ruined it, so I just chucked him in the bin and kept his guns to give to the Takara version.

I honestly don't know how any toy collector out there--especially Transformers collectors--doesn't have a joint tightening solution at the ready. It's been such a consistent issue right out of the package on so many toys I've bought over the past 10 years that if I hadn't figured something out, I think I would have just quit collecting by now.

Really? Every team I can think of that I've seen over the past several years has been completed. Only ones I can think of that aren't are the Autobot Targetmasters, and even then all we need is a Sureshot.

it would. water-based polyurethane is the main thing that tightens joints.
for a good bottle, I suggest the kind meant for henna skin art. nice tiny little needle tip applicator so you can goop it into tiny joints carefully. then work the joint as it dries.
best part is if you slop it, it washes off with soapnwater.

i'm not very good at it, but my vision's bad so the results look okay to me until I photograph it.

of course Premium Finish is making a fool of me, so I'm going to have more guys to do full-body repaints on to make them into new characters. open to suggestions.. I might just watercolor something clear on top of it, say, yellow, and let that be good enough.

as a figure it's ok enough. biggest issue is the cockpit. on most copies it cracks/breaks on the hinge after a while. can attest that my hasbro and takara versions both cracked. retro one still seems fine though, so it might have gotten fixed
