I would honestly love if they did more "just for the hell of it" repaints/retools, beyond the need to just fill out the character checklist. The Beast Hunters kinda had this vibe; reminded me of absurd '90s toy variants that never actually appeared in the respective shows.

The little brown guy is pretty hard to come by. He was in a Takara box set that goes for like 70-90 bucks, now. Worth it if you like the legends Megatron and Starscream molds that come with them, though. And he's a great little minicon/battlemaster with some simple yet clever engineering. He even has a neat "mine plow" mode for the front of Megatron's tank that I don't have a picture of.

Honestly, every Chop Shop figure in existence is good.

Unlike most other lines, most TFA molds were really tied down to their characters. Unless it was Starscream or Bee, most of them wouldn't do so well as other characters. Shit, even the Stunticons had to have in universe explanation as to why they look like autobots.

I hope they reference a couple of them with the new TFA toys in Legacy, if they're good. I always liked the "Elite Guard Bumblebee" deco (Takara's version was better, but I'll admit I kinda liked the black head from Hasbro's more desu).

While I don't have the original SS Bumblebee Optimus to compare (he's in some storage) I can say the new movie Optimus absolutely blows the old one out. Especially with the legs, far more poseable and stable than the mess that is the Bumblebee version. Oh and his weapons are neat, an arm mounted sword that fits and stays on well and an arm cannon though it is way too puny to ever look threatening. Scourge has a better buster shot than Optimus does.

Ignore the expose wheels on his hips, I forgot to transform them in.

Anyways, the legs got some really good range, considering Optimus has a front skirt of sorts similar to a Gundam they actually took a page from Bandai and moved the joint forwards so Optimus can move his legs freely away from his skirts and do a really high kick.

However it did present a design flaw I did not expect until I got the toy. As a result of moving the leg hips connection forward, the team did not give Optimus an additional joint for his legs to move back like most of the Gundam Gunpla kits so as a result pic related is the extent of how far back his legs can go, he can't do a proper walking cycle. Compared to Armada Optimus who can at least kick back, I once thought RotB Optimus would dethrone almost every other Optimus so far in the articulation department but guess not. This puts him in almost the same level as Earthrise Optimus and Armada Optimus.

For whatever reason Takara decided that Optimus should have some 4mm ports, the peg on his sword and the rectangular peg on his puny arm cannon are 4mm. Optimus also has 2 4mm ports on his back, another 2 on his arms and 2 more on his inner thighs in addition to the 5mm ports that are present. I guess it's part of space related reasons so there was only enough room for 4mm ports on the arms, Optimus is limited to what can be attached to him. He can most certainly hold 5mm peg weapons but he can't attach them onto his arms.

On the other hand though, most Diaclone connections are 4mm so this creates an unintentional compatibility with Diaclone weapons. I don't have a lot of Diaclones on me so what I was able to provide for Optimus are from the Big Powered GV Consolidated Battle Trailer as seen in pic-related. I think it works out well.

Vehicle mode, what can I say really? It's just a standard cabover truck. At the very least the transformation of his torso is better than the Bumblebee version, a lot more room to work with without parts getting in the way.

Yeah backside looks absolutely shit, not even a goddamn trailer hitch. It's lazily done compared to the Bumblebee version and the mainline version though since they were working on retooling budget I'm not sure if they could do any better.

I think it's a really good toy, far better over the Bumblebee Optimus but it could've been better. It was really obvious that the toy didn't get enough budget all because it was planned as a retool at first. I don't have the mainline version but honestly I think both toys are fairly matched in terms of how good they are to play with, both have the different sort of tradeoffs that makes them even. Buy it if you like the design and shit but I don't think it's a hot item must get like Armada Optimus.

I'm a little confused
the thigh does not actually need to move back. When we walk, our thigh stands straight, and our OTHER thigh moves forward, and as we lean, the other thigh appears to be moving backward. but it's staying in line with the torso. Our backward range of motion on our legs is roughly zero until you get to the knee. This here, where you're saying he can't tilt his leg back far enough to do a normal walk cycle, he's tilting it back like 70 degrees. that's a lot.

If they were to try again at making human minifigures, what would you want them to be like?
Personally, I'm imagining something really small and simple, like the height of SS86 Rumble/Frenzy, and given some simple balljoints at the shoulders/neck/legs, and a big fat "maybe" on knee/elbow hinges. Most important though would be a small port hole in their bum or back, so you could attach them to the body of a transformer to theoretically have them sit or be held, but inevitably look very stupid by effectively being attached to their bodies like meat armor. Or be treated as a blast effect, like Beachcomber's parakeet. Lmao

Like Weaponizers and Fossilized, they break apart and can have their parts combined, rearranged, or worn, so yes. They're an improvement on the concept, though, in that, while they still have the separation gimmick, they don't need to come apart to transform.

Soundwave by far, any version but top of them all is g1 cuz there's a cuteness to the way he treats the cassettes, but the versions where hes a cold machine badass are also great, hes just always got such striking designs and the cassettes are unique character elements that make for good toy gimmicks

I had been struggling to pick a single figure because i own so many absolutely banger toys, but rather than trying to decide on a fave based on the toy itself, im gonna pick a toy because of what it meant for me.
T30 Waspinator was the figure that got me back in. I had stopped collecting around the time I started highschool and eventually sold my entire collection during college (huge regret). Years later im working as a cashier at target and this dude came into my lane with T30 Waspinator and i was so shocked to see a character i grew up with again. He was a collector himself and told me about his collection, showed me pics, briefly told me about the current line, and told me there was 1 more Waspinator back in the isle if I wanted to buy one. I ran back there on my break and snapped him up. Once i felt the pull again i hit up all the major stores in the area, got Springer, Sandstorm, WF/FOC Blaster, G2 Dreadwing, Nightbeat, Rattrap and a few others im forgetting atm, i was just completely in love. I had stopped actively collecting around 05 and my last experience was a few gifted figures from the 07 movie line that i fucking hated, unfun to play with and hated the movie aesthetic, so this really felt like a "oh! Transformers is back!" moment, all thanks to my boy Waspinator.

I'd say basically about the same size(so 1.5 inches) and articulation as Titan/Prime Masters(well maybe slightly better articulation since they don't have to turn into heads/engines like those) seems like a good size and articulation for human figures, on the bonus side of things this more or less scales cleanly down from the GI Joe scale of 1:18 to a scale of 1:48 so it'd be easy to do a GI Joe crossover line with the human figures at Titan Master scale and the Transformers figures all turning into scale accurate GI Joe/Cobra vehicles(which would mean most of them would easily fit within the Deluxe/Voyager/Leader size ranges and you'd only need to go Commander or Titan class for some of the absolute biggest vehicles/playsets like the USS Flagg)

Nice anon, Axlegrease is probably my favourite of the lot.
I like her muscle car look but the Scraphook mould is good enough that it mostly depends on which one has the best joint tolerances. I guess that more applies to if you're getting multiple of the mould though.
The elbows are the main joint that can be noticeably loose.

Looks like Road Pig might be the Crashbar redeco/retool we're looking for to complete the combiner.

Out of those two, I prefer Crashbar. Scraphook's massive shoulders tend to get in the way and his accessories don't look as good in robot mode. I tend to ignore the weaponizer gimmick but that might change once I get Trashmaster and double dip on the first two. At least it's easy battle damage.

Too kind, anon. I like Chris Latta's original concept of "Brooklyn Blue Collar Guy", but I feel there's just as much merit to "Rural Ontario Redneck Guy". The whole choro q line was pretty cool. I love the idea of toon-proportioned transformers. There was a good mix of geewunn fanservice and new licensed bullshit. AE86 Jazz is a fav, as well as GT-R Optimus. The seeker mold was awesome, too.

The cool thing about Wheeljack's alt mode is when you read the history of it. It was an entirely race-focused chassis built to be fast and agile as fuck. Drivers described it as a "ball of automotive rage". I'm not sure where I recall this from, but some official source once described Wheeljack as being the best driver in his alt mode, and it makes sense.

There's another layer of humor in the fact that the Marlboro sponsored version of the car caught fire a significant amount of times. I really do love how the inspiration of the original toys was inspired so much by car culture.

I agree with your assessment of modern cars being mostly shit-heaps, but you got the colors all wrong. Over the past 30 years, cool colors like "copper" or "avocado" were almost completely dumped in favor of boring silver, white, or black. Cars these days also aren't even that gas efficient. I've owned so many 20+ year old carbureted landbarges, and they all could get an average of 25-28 mpg highway as long as you were light on the pedal. Modern cars are weighed down so much by useless tech and miles of wiring and computers all for the sake of inflating the price that they can't even reliably break 30 mpg. It's all part of the big oil grift. They are purposefully depriving you of gas efficient cars.

I like him, but then again, he's the first Springer I've ever owned. He doesn't have all that 'battle damage' shit on him that his Earthrise version did, and he's got an actual Wrecker emblem this time around.
Honestly, I ended up really liking all of the bots from the WnR collection, even Bulkhead, who I had never even heard of before but turned out to be a lot of fun.
The only thing that disappointed me was that we didn't get an updated Whirl for the line, despite him being depicted on the box art.

There's truly no way to know for sure without the test of time. The last confirmed case of GPS was in 2015. Maybe newer toys haven't aged enough to reveal an issue or will take longer to break down due to changes plastic chemistry and the use of less metallic pigment. Personally I doubt that it's much of an issue anymore.

If you had them stored together, they might have been in contact with plastic that the paint didn't like. I took Ectotron out of storage some time ago, and the flexible cord on his proton pack had melted the paint on a different figure.

Alternatively, figures do best when stored where they can get some air flow to them, like individually wrapped in a soft cloth with a shit ton of desiccant packs put in the container with all of them. And dont let the temperature fluctuate alot where ever you keep them.

There's no way to stop it from happening eventually, like other anons have said. All plastic will degrade at some point, but keeping it in a good environment will help it last longer.
All plastic outgasses a bit over time naturally but if you keep it in a tightly sealed container the plasticizer builds up and causes the degrading process to speed up. I'm over simplifying it but that's the basics of why some air flow is better. If you have to keep things stored in containers always try to keep it at the coldest area in your house and keep desiccant packs in with the figures.

First time with both molds. Been having a lot of fun with Javelin, she looks great, poses great, and has a decently fun transformation into a cool enough space car. Kaskade looks decent-ish in bot mode, but she's just a fucking awful toy. Bot mode is comically compromised with kibble in service of a garbage alt mode that's not even fun to transform her into. Her gun is the best thing about her.

If you can somehow get Javelin alone, go for it. Otherwise, don't bother unless you're desperate to have Javelin.

The only recent guy who's mold even comes close in shape to that would be Iguanus, but he's too small (assuming they're all going to be the same size). Yeah those guys are pretty well sought after. My Optimus is missing one of the smaller shoulderpad bits and Magnus is missing his big gun but otherwise they're complete and despite how fiddly it is the combined mode is pretty impressive.

I'd just try to get the missing arm secured then worry about the wheels/gun later, in a pinch you could probably scavenge some similarly sized rubber wheels from a random toy at goodwill or something. Only worry about 100% completing them if you intend to sell them off at top price, but then like anon said you'll probably lose out on time/money having to do that in the first place.

I've already arranged that when I'm close to death I will sail out to the ocean one last time. On my boat will be all of my gok6, silver and jewels and whatever else is highly valuable. The Leader Soundwave is in Legacy, not 86, sow e don't know if he's gonna be G1 or not. Could be his Galaxy Force bomber plane form for all we know.
Either way though, 86 is gonna cover every character and we have very few left, so a new G1 Soundwave will happen eventually.

Vos is a giant sniper rifle (and TFs that turn into weapons for other TFs are always based), and I think his face gimmick would be neat to see done. And Tesarus' giant shredder in his chest would just be a fun toy gimmick in general, like RotF Devastator.
Only two I have trouble seeing be done are Helex (cool alt mode IMO, but would you be able to fit anyone inside his tank? Tesarus has the excuse at least of only needing to partially shove someone inside for the toy gimmick to work), and Kaon (the electric chair. My favorite alt mode for how ridiculously edgy it is, but would they really get away with selling that one to kids? idk).
Either way though, potential two/three out of four ain't bad imo.

I know nothing about the comics but Nickel could be fun. I like Transformers with extra modes but she might be too small for all of them. Vos sounds doable and I'd probably buy him. A deluxe is generally liike 5 inches, there's a chance he could be shorter due to being thicker and thus more plastic, but i'd bet on 5 to 5.5

My impulse ebay purchase habit continues, this time snagged a rotf Ravage for $7, i love searching "auctions ending soon under $25"

Another figure ive always had on my to get list but way down, but god am i impressed with this thing, makes an amazing addition to the Soundwave collection.

I know hes a deluxe, but i was not at all prepared for how big he is, both foot to shoulder and head to tail.

The colours are excellent, nice deep base black plastic, sharp eye catching teal accents, some nice silver to pick out the teeth and a few mechanical bits, the gray plastic bits blend in decently enough and the purple light piping is so pretty.

Theres so much going on here too. Front legs have huge butterfly jointed shoulders, bicep swivels (with mechalive), deep elbows and independent claws. Back legs have hips balljoints (i think) with a good amount of movement in every direction, two knee bens and foot bend. Then the cannons are on two hinges each and the tail has 4 different joints.

The one and only downside which is a real bummer is his head, its on this hing activated biting action gimmick meaning his neck is a solid chunk, no articulation at all, a real damn shame. The ears moving with the extension is cute though.

That seems likely. You would need multiple pack-in guys to get to Leader Class since Blaster+Eject was a voyager pricepoint. Animated Soundwave was a Deluxe, so it would be crazy even if both Laserbeak and Ratbat were included to be a Leader class. The other Soundwaves other than G1 to accomplish that were Movie, and Aligned, and Legacy doesn't have movie guys.

Soundwave has been without a good mold for so fucking long that just having good articulation, lack of gaps or excess kibble, a intuitive transformation with proper alt mode and — the big hope here — space for 2 cassettes WITHOUT a big bulging chest would instantly knock it out of the park

Just got the Kaskade/Javelin pack as a gift. I never got the Siege Chromia mold and I'm surprised by how bad it is. I also got the potp version of thr mold, but despite also turning into a limb, that one has better articulation and looks nicer. The chest greebles don't look any better in person either, it just looks gross. Also, didn't this mold have grenades that it could hold? The one's included don't have a 5mm peg.

Javelin's pretty neat, but the BB Arcee's short comings end up more notable here, the arms sit too low so some poses with the rifle look awkward, plus the head shape is also odd because they had to make sure it fit for the transformation. It also lacks the guns from the Arcee mold, even thoug they're made out of the same plastic used to support the joints and skeleton (which was all reused for Javelin).

If you really want this set, wait for a sale. It doesn't seem worth it at full price.

If next year's Commander is Jetfire then it's a maybe we'll get the repaints. I kinda hope it's true alongside speculation the new Leader UNI Optimus is Armada Powerlinx Optimus Prime without the trailer. That way we can get Jet Optimus and down the line we could get an Ultra Magnus and Spacewarp repaint. I'm picturing SG Ultra Magnus and Spacewarp working together to try and overthrow SG Optimus

Unfortunately it seems they're set on milking as much as they can out of it though.

Dreadwing has a tank mode, it's just the wings folded in and the launcher moved up top. I had them as a kid too, years later I replaced them in my collection but the new Smokescreen snapped at the main joint after a year or too.

I really hope we get a new Seeker mold for the 40th anniversary. Yeah it'll mean yet another redo of a major character and people aren't too fond of that, but in Starscream's case I think it's necessary with how half-arsed the ER mold was.

Absolutely. For such a large milestone and popular character on top of the existing mould being ass, it's like the stars aligned for him to get a new mould.
I think you can hand-wave away the existing SS86 Starscream as that specific scene and they can make a new one thats based on the opening assault on Autobot City.
I would've expected Thundercracker and Skywarp to be released around this time if they where adamant on using the ER mould but the fact we haven't seen them in leaks, it's got me suspicious we may be getting that new mould.

I've enjoyed the Toxitron Collection as a whole very much, a great selection of moulds with decos referencing unreleased stuff will always make me happy.
Wasn't too bad to find over here either. I hope any anons still on the lookout are able to find what they're after soon.

The only two I wanted other than Cloudcover and the leaders are the shortpacked ones so I'm not getting them either way, but it does feel like distribution isn't nearly as widespread as Velocitron was. There are three Walmarts near me and only one is carrying Toxitron at all, and even then it feels like they git a case or two and that's it.

I was more referring to how I think the Lazer Cycle mould is so bad, I'd rather ignore it entirely but you're 100% right that Hasbro themselves are shooting themselves in the foot with their distribution decisions.
While their short packing of the best deluxes of TC is one of many shitty decisions, I still think Velocitron had it worse.

yes. use superglue. not metric fuck ton, but from my experience, these tires split at a place that was probably either glued together originally in factory, or where the mold was poured in from. Adding a dab of cyanon glue (off the rim) gives it its strength back.

To be honestly I've done it for all the tires and treads that shit the bed. And they've all held well except for my first Armada Scavenger, his treads are thin. But my second version is still perfect. (those you have to do on model.)

Ive got 4 nearby as well, only 1 has gotten anything from toxitron in, the rest are clogged with rotb animal armour guys and masks and all the feature space is tmnt now, although ive started seeing ss 86 brawn and gamer cliffjumper a lot

Of the one location that has gotten toxitron, theyve gotten a single case of the deluxes from what i could tell, i showed up too late for the only 2 i wanted, sideswipe and dead end, but they had mirage and jazz for a while and they only finally sold the last laser cycle this week. Theyve gone through a couple cases of cloudcover, been consistently restocked, as for the leaders they both immediately sold out for the first few times but now i consistently see a few of each, each time i go to a location and dont see my two car boys i end up wanting them less and less honestly.

Thats funny, the store I went to had everything except Jazz and and sipeswipe. It had at least two lazercycles, which i swiftly threw back because fuck that mold, it sucks shit.
