Because the TF fandom at large has become weirdly centred around a cabal of speds who run the shitheap known as TFWiki. Casuals get their information from the wiki, so the disgusting creatures that run it are able to influence the opinion of said casuals. Being part of the wiki cult, Chris McFeelsupsmallboys is viewed as some fount of knowledge by people not familiar with how fucking awful the wiki and its editors actually are.

What >>10617362 said, it's an incredibly unprofessional wiki that uses its position to push fanwank and/or misinfo as gospel. On a more autistic note I find their decision to write articles on Japanese properties like Micron Legend as if the dubs were the primary source (with the Japanese version being referred to only in footnotes) annoying.
Most notably though most of the staff are freaks of varying degrees of horror.
Walky (AKA David Willis) and M.Sipher are the main ringleaders of the wiki. Walky is a notorious lolcow with incredibly thin skin and zero self awareness, lets his biased takes on everything heavily affect the wiki (completely uncritical praise of everything IDW shat out whilst filling any Japanese content's pages with 2007-tier "WTF Japan seriously?!?" jokes etc), massive ego, has a massive tantrum when anyone questions his decisions (I got banned myself for daring to suggest removing obvious culture-war baiting), and on top of all that seems to have made it his life's goal to embody every stereotype about Tumblrite/SJW/woke types imaginable. He also wrote Dumbing Of Age and shits himself if he gets too angry.
M.Sipher is similar, but his most notable accomplishment was coercing a 16 year old boy to fellate him in exchange for an MISB G1 Overlord.

Chris McFeely also has hawkish control over the several Wikipedia pages. For about 10 years, I uploaded the Japanese and Western logos for the cartoon series on there, and he removed it and deemed it "unnecessary...", despite Japan taking up a sizeable portion of that page's content. I don't get the weird aversion to Japan or if they can't comprehend that Asians made their favorite giant robots, but its annoying.

Hasbro giving Fun Publications the Transformers license in 2003 was a huge mistake but I can understand where hasbro was coming from at the time. They probably saw it as a 0-investment free advertising thing to keep Botcon going and officially licensed instead of letting it go off and be its own thing. 3H screwed the pooch enough that they were never gonna keep the license and they still had no idea the 2007 bay movie would revitalize Transformers and make it a huge seller again.

Unfortunately this decision is how we got Walky and why the TFwiki is now filled with fanclub lore.
