you know I had the same thought the other day, I'm not sure if it's accurate or just one of many issues (another one being the mixture of nerf getting kinda shit and xshot not innovating meaning most of the discussion these days is either bitching about stuff on the shelf or being autistic about 3D printed etsy products)

Summer's over (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). All the major brands have already blown their wads making announcements, and their rollouts have been underwhelming. Nerftubers can go gargle on gel balls. Not much else to talk about for a while.

it's just a stryfe with mods everyone already has anyway. nobody's gonna buy it because there's zero market. even if someone new wanted an off-the-shelf stryfe that could compete they could get a spectrum for years now

This is pretty much why the nerf threads died. Nerf just isn't putting out anything good as of late, and all the "HYPER EXTREME PERFORMANCE" 3D print stuff is dull and annoying.

I appreciate they kept all the tacticool attachment points, but couldn't they just make an actually new blaster?

Also the price on that thing is horrendous. It costs more then blasters three times it's capacity with similar performance and features but doesn't have the impressive image attached to them.

Nerf peaked with Rival. Everything after that has been crap.

Yes the Stryfe X or X Stryfe or whatever it's called, is overpriced, underpowered, and nothing new or special if you're even remotely familiar with the hobby, but it has one thing nobody else thought of doing, and that's a plug and play rechargeable battery that won't explode and set your house on fire.
Something the entire hobby is taking for granted for some reason.
Sure it's a bit pricey but on the other hand it doesn't have to be charged manually and kept in a fireproof bag away from your place of residence.

You're exaggerating the hazards a bit. Dart Zone has included rechargeable batteries in their Pro and gel blasters, and they charge via USB just like Nerf's battery. At least DZ has given players an option to use their own batteries instead of forcing them to adopt an arbitrary standard set for a single blaster.
