Got my two sets today. I originally wanted them for the Autoroopers, but they're all pretty good molds, and this is my first time getting to handle the Alicon mold too. Actually glad I held off since they bundled both heads with this, they're nice little guard/alligator bots. Lilac Seeker and Jhiaxis troopers are cool too. I'm less interested in keeping more of the seeker clones (especially if I go for a third), but the J-troopers do work for me as clones too, the one I've opened so far also feels way more solid than my Skullgrin. Weapons didn't come out warped to shit either.

All in all though, good value. Also they had core Spike, and he's fun.

No, there is. The heads on Jihaxis trooper and the Autoroopers were redesigned to be swappable. Original Skullgrin's head is a soft mask on an abs balljointed piece, the new one is a firm neck which is more of a swivel. It doesn't move up and down at all.

Also semi-fun fact, but the Allicon and the Bailiff are slightly different designs. Earthrise made both, and they shared a mold, but differed in the shoulder pads, chest details, and head. The 4pack comes with the Bailiff mold, but the Allicon's head as an extra. This is good bc the Earthrise Bailiff had shit colors, but the Allicon was fine; tho, the 4pack Allicon head has a bit extra paint? So, if you had both you could replace the head ig. Not that it matters much, it's just a single extra paint app. lawl.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like MP Soundwave. The hips, thighs, and ankles suck, and I'm usually not the kind of guy to let one or two flaws ruin a figure for me, but there's just nothing else there to save it since I don't particularly have nostalgia for the character. His transformation is kinda clunky and half-assed, especially considering he just has to turn into a box. And he isn't even a very good box. I feel like they had to make some compromises to fit the multi-tape chest gimmick and it doesn't even work particularly well, nor is it fun or satisfying to do, so it's ultimately just there for muh accuracy. He's a good-looking robot, imo, but as a Transformer he just didn't do much for me.

Not gonna lie, it's mostly the accessories that make or break a Soundwave figure for me.
For example, I actually like the Siege/Legacy mold, I think it's a really interesting design with a lot of fun fanmode possibilities. I just have a few gripes, like the dots in his shoulder cannon not being painted red, or the massive forearm gaps, or the cassettes sometimes getting stuck in his chest.

It always annoys me though that they never bother to give beast modes neck articulation.

Transformation is at least moderately different than the original (besides the obvious wings folding against the back). The thighs swivel 180 degrees and the robot forearms are on the back of the rear wolf legs, meaning his body flips backwards on some level.

Last time Soundwave was reissued, with 1 tape, he cost 50 bucks.
4 years ago.

With inflation, that'd put it at 60 bucks.

45 bucks, and you get an extra tape? That's a huge price drop comparatively.

yeah, I like it enough that I'm considering picking up legacy soundwave on clearance so I can have one to mod.
Then probably get the leader class coming out next year.

I think the overall idea of a drop ship is fantastic, and they need to play into that more. Soundwave being transport for minicons/tapes, that makes sense to me.

what's funny is that IIRC, the original Soundwave mold was damaged or lost so that future reissues were actually made on the copied Soundblaster mold, which got a Soundwave tape door recreation. This is why the first Hasbro reissue just uses the Soundblaster door; they didn't pay the extra expense to scrap the double door and replace it with the classic one like Takara did.

Yeah you can do the tank, but like I said, the head can't tilt up now so you don't really get the same battering ram look. You can turn the horns though on both heads, so you can tweak it a bit to your liking there.

Just picked up Jhiaxus while I was out rinning errands. I am more impressed with him than I expected to be. His transformation is really fun and I love how everything shifts. Maybe the arms could have been transformed a bit better and have been used to, somehow, cover and conceal that totally open cockpit area. Even still, you can sort of cover that if you take off his shpuoder sensor nub and put it on the back of his red gun, and then side mount it with the sensor forward.

I have both the 3d printed tim heada and Sam's forge megatron shoulders. The heada ones are cheaper and easier to get but they stop the transformation from working. The Sam's forge ones have more parts but have working transformation and it has a rubber stopper on there so it's nice and tight.

For laser prime there's the nujevad shoulder joint set which is a free 3d print file online on cults3d. It's super easy to install and he updates it like every 2 months if there's any improvements.

I'll admit messing with the mold a bit some more with the Jhiaxis bots that's a little misleading. There is some interesting things going on with the transformation (the torso for one does a kind of cool inversion the get the back and arms where they are) but it is mostly to flatten everything down, yeah. Though I will also say I didn't realize before with Skullgrin that there are proper tabs for the pvc swords to straighten them in vehicle mode, that knocks up the overall vehicle a little more in my book after noticing that, honestly.

I'm sure if/once I get him I'm probably going to change my tune and be a full simp for the mold. I've gotten a lot of figures that I look at like 'oh no its shit' but once they are in hand I love them. Blitzwing for example; 2 of his 3 modes weren't really doing it for me but once I got him in hand I absolutely love him and forgive everything. The tank isn't that bad really. Sure the plane mode is a full ass brick but there are few aircraft modes that aren't. But I also find a lot of people complain too much about figures.

I grabbed the troop builder pack the other day specifically for the seeker and allicon, but ended up liking the G2 trooper and autotrooper way more surprisingly. The G2 trooper just reminds me a lot of the silly jank transformers my mom used to buy me when we went out grocery shopping as a kid. Yup, the ol' "back of the walmart toy aisle $5 dollar CHANGE ROBOTO" jank ass dudes. Now that I have Jhiaxus I'm wondering if I should get the G2 trooper, though I have no attachment to the G2 comics they are both from. I was only ever familiar with the G2 toyline and the G2 "cartoon", so when it comes to G2 I'm mostly in it for the whackass colorschemes.

I think I might still go with Skullgrin just because of the cool head. But who knows, I'll see about it.

He's a really weird colour. I think there is like 1 frame where they show a seeker in the same colour, but I grabbed it mostly because it was my first instance of the mold. It's way more purple in person than I thought it would be, but every video/photo I've seen of it makes it look like a different colour. I definitely liked it a lot more as Flamewar, but I'm still not a fan of the upper proportions and generally how the legs were done. You barely get a 90 degree bend with her, which is annoyingly limiting for such an agile character.

If you were to get one of those two specifically I'd recommend road rocket cause it just has more pleasant colors imo, the metallic blue really bumps it up over piss cycle

I'm not even a hardcore Beast Wars nut (or even a Silverbolt nut in particular), but I really love the way his beast mode was done here. The design isn't 1:1 with the early-CGI model, but it still evokes its spirit, with that goofy wolf grin. It looks like Silverbolt, just with a bit of a nip'n'tuck, which is how I wish the Kingdom figures' alt modes were handled...

The ball joint on Prowl's neck is too small unfortunately. Even if it did fit, the troop builder pack uses a new headswapping method for the cybertronian trooper and autotrooper where you slide the head on to a base neck that's already attached to the balljoint, so you wouldn't be able to have both heads on both figures at the same time either way.

I went through a bunch of potential color layouts, but ended up with this. it keeps the main colors intact and just fills in some detail.

Not bad at all. I looked on youtube to see if theres anything I should know about them or anything I missed, and I'm surprised to see most of the people on youtube are so critical of these two. Like personally I don't see the problems, especially with the headsculpt on JP, itd a cool headsculpt. The only issie I do have is that everything I snap the feet into place on JP I worry I'm going to break the little like 1mm tab that it works with. But thats it. Oh, and O would have liked a faction symbol somewhere on each of them- nd maybe the old JP toy logo on Tyrannocon for nostalgia's sake, but whatever.

I'd paint him, but I'm told the rubber really doesn't hold acrylic paint. which is weird because like, i use paper plates to mix my paints, and no matter how much thick paint gets glooped up on those, they still flex without the paint cracking.

While I love Slamdance, the Covert Clone Sideswipe is kind of meh. I've never been a huge sodeswipe fan, and the Legacy Diaclone dude looks smoother to me. I assume the head part is just sitting on the ball joint, since from my attempt getting the adaptor off the neck ball is really difficult, but how difficult you think it would be to just swap the panel the neck is on instead? Yeah, I'm curious to see what can be done about head swaps for this set. The Allicons are obvious. The seekers in general I'd like to do head swaps if anyone has tips. Right now it looks like I won't be able to put G2 trooper heads on extra Skullgrins at all and it looks like you might have some ideas about the Autotroopers. Real shame this takes extra work as I gladly would have picked up doubles/triples of other guys to make use of all the heads.

yeah the animated one is just propped up atm. i was fortunate enough to get the set with SG prime really cheap and had kept the ratchet in storage until now.
ive swapped parts on this mold a few times and yeah swapping the neck part with the ball-joint is much easier than moving the actual adapter.
sadly the adapter from the skullgrin/g2-goon does not fit on the ratchet/ironhide mold neck ball-joint

Yeah, scratch that thought on the neck panel actually. Just checked and seems like the whole torso is sandwiching it together, so you'd need to dismantle the whole thing. Though, the G2 Troopers look like they use the same head connection, so popping those off and using them for head swaps might be feasible? Heating the balljoint up with a hair dryer or hot water usually helps either loosen the glue holding the two parts together, or expands the hole ever so slightly so you can pop it off. Either way, hope that helps you with your plans anon!

Well, maybe. I'm not fully sure since I haven't taken the head part off the G2 troopers yet, but the balljoint attaching the neck could still be the same, and swappable in that regard. I'll see if I can crack it open and get back to you.

My original idea was to have two Kiss Player bots and put the Autotrooper heads on Crosshairs since the color scheme matched well enough while still being reasonably available. With the G2 Trooper heads I wanted to have two in green and two in purple. The whole adapter set is neat and all but now I can't do easy army building like doing Ransack/Kickback head swaps. Worst case scenario I have two G2 Troopers only to nickname Beavis and Butthead to be Jhiaxus's entourage. The Autrotrooper and Kiss Autotrooper can be "named characters" from their respective lines. Maybe I'll throw numbers on the Kiss Trooper.

Oh holy shit. just found one of the lost toys from my childhood transformers collection. It's in awful shape, it's missing all it's accessory missiles, the few joints it has are loose and it's absolutely caked in dust and grime, and I cannot believe found it.
This is one of the few Transformers I can remember being given to me by my late Grandma when I was young, I had honestly thought I'd never see it again.
Before today I would have gladly sacrificed my entire collection to have and hold this exact Starscream, a gift from my childhood I thought was lost and rotting in a landfill somewhere. I'm genuinely overwhelmed having found it again.
Tomorrow I'm going to try and clean it up as best I can so I can put it in with the rest of my collection, even if it will look exceptionally out of place.

Weirdly, the designer said that the new Tigerhawk uses "beast mode sculptwork pulled directly from the previously released Kingdom Tigatron and Airazor molds"

honestly the BW MPs are so tempting, despite their unavoidable mild flaws, that I probably would have gotten them had they come out recently when I had more money. But because the first one was Primal and his leg transformation looks dumb and his elbows are unnecessarily gappy, I was comfortable saying no to the whole thing.
would be pretty cool if china would start giving us scaled-down chug-sized MPs.

I was lucky enough to slide into a union job with the government. I'm under the national avg of salary for what I do, but I have a retirement and I live comfortably in my area. Tech industry is so schizophrenic right now with hiring and layoffs, I'd rather not rock the boat.

For what it's worth, I only go this hard on MP Beast Wars since it hit me at an age where I could understand what was happening on the show but not old enough to be grown out of it. Something about these toon-accurate 90s CGI figures really makes me smile. I skipped Dinobot for the longest time until they announced Megatron and then it was all downhill from there. I was locked in. Especially since the design for his backpack actually somehow folded into the shape of the show's model. I couldn't believe it. They all have their issues. Megs had that assembly error on some unknown percentage. Primal for me had aforementioned paint rubbing. Cheetor has cracks in his shitty pale yellow plastic they used on some of his hinges. Blackarachia also has paint rubbing from one of her accessories that chipped some gold paint off her head; her beast mode is also LOL, but I still love the figure. Tigatron has weird leg design, but I more or less bought him out of obligation.

Been going nuts with the TransArt Transmetal figures as well, albeit I complain more because they always seem to drop the ball on something.

I never really got bothered with Primal's elbows. Not really sure what they could have done to avoid that aside from add some sort of filler that follows the joint in/out. I have had clearance/paint rubbing issues with him so he's definitely not perfect. He also wasn't an absolutely insane price when first released so he was a no-brainer. I think you can still pick him up as he gets rereleased every so often.

I thought they did a pretty damn good job on Tigatron's legs, but still not perfect. Dinobot's beast legs disappointed me because a raptor lives and dies on his cool talons, and those were not.

ACKSHUALLY, TM Megatron was their least accurate imo. They skimped so fucking hard on his paint apps it's actually tilting. They didn't do the chrome parts on the shoulders or the legs and also left out a ton of detail on the head/faces in terms of paint. I actually went nuts on TFW2005 when he came out because I was so pissed. The paint they did use was beautiful, but they just left out some glaring details that really bothered me. Still, beggars can't be choosers.

Thanks, yes its 3d printed on resin, its quite smooth, but the crest looks rough on that pic because I scratched the paint while posing her, also didn't wait enough for the paint to dry.

plus I have a bad habit of going "oh, the paint did something unexpected there.. but I like it" like I didn't go more than one and a half coats of white here because I like how natural it looks a little mottled, and when I gave my premium finish Primal lighter gray fur, that paint came out very matte and I like the contrast with his glossy skin.

The beast mode is a little rough, kinda unavoidable since there's a lot of flat-out gaps that you're intended to ignore because gorillas are black (since they were going for toy-color beast mode in the initial release) which are now big gaping black holes

but I think the robot mode looks way better. Tried to take advantage of the existing color scheme, making the unpainted black robot parts into a deliberate thing and painting his head to match. white stuff mostly went to the metallic blue of his feet, red stuff went silver. Wish the orange eyes showed up better, but he was never going to really look like Not Primal, comes off more like Arctic Shield Batman.. except painted by a retard. I swear it looks so much better in hand, even under a magnifying glass. but then cameras just...

Not sure what to call him, Frostape sounds like some kind of cold-resistant adhesive strips...

I was expecting to need to put on way more coats of white, I suppose thinning it would have made that happen. but the texture still looks fine to me.
the trouble there is you can't get the same color twice if it dried while you were waiting to do the next part, so if it's a custom mixed color, I feel like I gotta use it while the usin's good. I try to put on real thin coats and then fan-dry it in between so I can reapply before the palette has dried..
the silver parts though, yeah kinda bad finish there. but the problem there is even before thinning them, the metallic ones are irritatingly transparent. had to put gray behind each part first.

aw man I forgot to photo him with the shoulder cannons out. Oh well those suckers are too small anyway.

Someone posted some Q&A and they said they won't be doing vacuum metal for them if they do because it's dangerous or something. the problem is it flakes off, and you have to build it into any parts tolerances (make the parts a tiny bit smaller so the coating makes them just the right size) if they have to interact with anything, like a joint. and it's expensive. so nobody does it anymore. I miss it terribly. I also miss holograms, and I want them put into TFs immediately. if I had my druthers, we would get a fun new gimmicky line where the faction symbols or spark crystals or whatever were holographic

I've seen PrimeVsPrimes vid on the new windblade, seeing it more closely I really don't like her. There is just a total lack of femininity on her, not at all like her Cyberverse design. And I get Legacy is "g1ifying" characters but look at Arcee or other fembots that aren't Shadowstriker. Is it merely acyberverse fembots who are cursed to look like this?

I'm not demanding she look like a coomer statue or anything, I'd just like her to look cute and not like a female bodybuilder. Save that shape for someone like Clobber.

It was really bizarre at the time, she just showed up and was treated as a main character alongside the likes of Bumblebee and Optimus one day. It was like someone's edgy self-insert OC manifested itself into reality. Like the Poochie bit on the Simpsons but real. I guess Drift had a similar thing a few years back but that felt more... natural, I guess? Anyway, now that Windblade's Poochie arc is over for the most part, she's become a lot more funny in hindsight for me, and more endearing as a result. It helps that she has a good design like you say. Torn on the new figure because I like the articulation and some other aspects but then I just see the proportions and especially that face and it ruins the whole thing for me. I really hope she's either better in hand or Slipstream wears the mold better.

People seemed to really like him, but I doubt he'll be replacing Sweet Boy anytime soon. He just doesn't have that special marketable sauce that Bumblebee has. Being small, round, and yellow he's basically the TF equivalent of Pikachu

I'm not a Bumblebee fanboy exactly, but I still liked him way better than mirage. I do wish they'd move past his "radio is voice" phase in all forms finally though. It was really annoying in early Cyberverse.

I'm more of a Hot Shot guy myself, even if it's mostly nostalgia. But I don't think BB is ever gonna be dethroned as THE Marketable Kid Appeal Character. And even Hot Shot's basically like 50% Bumblebee(with the other 50% being Hot Rod). Hard agree with radio voice being lame, it was a semi-interesting gimmick for the first bay movie, but then they just would not move on from it

I think it’s possibly a combination of over or under-desinged suits, terrible mecha and overall a much sillier and cartoony premise. I mean one of the Sentai series uses a cgi cat as the black ranger. Compare a lot of it to the stuff in the late 90’ or mid 2000’s and it’s very cheap looking and honestly feels hollow compared to it. The shows themselves are apparently good when the specific stuff Hasbro wants to transfer over looks either bad or just too weird, I can see why they’d want to go for a reboot or something closer to what RPM was in terms of restructuring the original Sentai footage to be more western friendly.

There was also a legacy series where the team were robots based on sentai history, like a guy based on the Megazord and a sixth ranger based on the White Tigerzord fused with the Dragon Zord, so it seems insane to not adapt that.

I think the problem is more that Hasbro wanted to move away from sentai entirely and it flopped hard (the current season has fallen into indefinite hiatus)
