The guy with the sword is the commander isn't he? They did the same with the tempestus scions, and the admech I guess. So I wouldn't be too surprised if we get riflemen soon. I think I heard rumours of heavy weapons teams and a sentinel too, but who knows.

It's funny, I really don't care for the Redemptor as a miniature, but as an action figure it looks fun as fuck. I almost want one, though I want the Venerable Dreadnought more. Shame I can't do a big spend right now or I'd get one.

As an owner of several venerable dreads, they look awesome and like oldschool 40k, but the Redemptors seem much more playable and fun. You can get a surprising amount of poseability out of the venerables, but it's still relatively limited.

2. as a casual observer who doesn't play orks, the ones on the right are objectively more interesting, there's more personality to the designs. I understand people want basic units for army building and shit but that's just my thoughts.

3. I bought several of them and while they are not as poseable as marines, and have ugly engineering on the elbows, they are otherwise very nice and I like them a lot.

It's weird to me how picky orkfags are. It's the one faction where almost anything can work, but they shart themselves over beastmaster orks, lanklet orks, tacticool orks... some people would be happier if they just printed 1:1 figs of the dawn of war models, I guess.

I think that they went with the kommandos because they were more varied, and on paper, kill team type models would make better figures than almost literally the same model x10. But honestly they should have gone for the obvious answer and used one of those kommando slots for a basic Ork infantry model, so instead of 6 varieties of kommando orks, we get 5 varieties, plus one army builder. Honesty who thought comms Ork with an accessory glued into his hand, and no real weapon, was a good idea? Make an Ork with a soft plastic/rubber vest that you could remove to make an Ork with vest, or a bare chested Ork! Throw in a removable helmet, and boom! That's 4 ways to style your Ork boy!

...did none of you actually buy him? I see this complaint constantly yet if any of you actually owned it you would know this is not true. I mean for fucks sake, it's not even attached to him in the blister.

He is a fine figure, actually one of my favorites on looks alone. I really like his stitched-together gasmask thing and black skull shirt. I also don't know wtf his device is so I headcanon it as some sort of sonic weapon. And the other orks came with more than enough spare weapons, more than they could hold at once, so it was easy to just donate one to this guy.

I feel like a lot of people bag on the orks, but don't have a particularly good reason why when questioned.

Thats an impressive ammount of Joytoy warhammer figures but that is not a good way to display them and it feels like this guy has crossed the threshold of his toys owning him. I Imagine his living space slowly shrinking over time as he filles all empty spaces of his living spaces with new releases. Just kidding but yeah invest in some shelves or display cases at some point because those cardboard risers arent it. In a proper display that collection is awe inspiring.

some new 40k mini previews were shown today, which means possible Joytoy release in the future.

First we have Kill Team Striking Scorpions. I don't now if the models are totally new, but they're made of plastic now. Since its a new release, this probably the best chance to get toys of Aeldari. Hopefully for next year

why do people automatically assume we're getting the Emperor? Joytoy hasn't made a single action figure that isn't a 1:1 copy of an existing tabletop miniature, probably because GW isn't allowing them any leeway to create an original sculpt. hell, even their weapons loadouts are directly from the codex datasheets

There's actually two Horus models. Horus the Warmaster, basically the "normal" version of him, and then Horus Ascended, who has been powered-up by the Chaos gods. Both of them have rulesets that make him hard as nails, but playability means they are not representative of Horus in the lore (especially not the Ascended version). The Emperor would likely suffer the same penalties

The mcfarlane ones don't really look like the specific one you pictured, but there's not much chance of a 1/12 or 1/6 version, that model's not exactly a super popular one, so anyone doing 1/12 or 1/6 would do a lot of other figures before getting to that guy.

Cost/value proposition is poor, in my opinion.
The McFarlane ones are priced reasonably, but the articulation and variety of figures on offer isn't as good as Joytoy, plus they come with few accessories.
The Bandai ones, on the other hand, are a complete scam. They're color-molded plastic with almost no paint, so there's lots of spots with white discoloration from where the gate nubs were clipped off, they each come with only one or two accessories, and they are charging over $100 for them. The articulation is decent, though.

the only gripe I could mention is that the armor does not have much shadowing/weathering but that's it

Overlord just came in. He's super neat, but I'm a little sad his chest tassels aren't even slightly articulated, and that his right hand is just a fist holding the tachyon arrow launcher. Plus, basically no head movement, wish his neck was a barbell instead of a straight ball joint.

Still, stands up fine and can get some good poses, just slightly disappointed.

Don't the necrons have two parts that plug into their heads? There's the neck, and then there's the spine-plug. Someone said they cut the peg that plugs the spine in and it really opened up the head posability.

I've been eying the overlord, and I've thought the chest tabard thingies are disappointing that they don't move, and I already have an idea to mod them so they can; pop em off, then drill a hole into the chest where they did connect, and take a big string,or piece of yarn, and glue one end inside the hole, and then glue the tabards onto the other end sticking out, that way they should move very naturally.

You don't even have to cut it, at least on the smaller guys. It's got a bit of glue, but you can just yank it out. It does improve the head articulation and doesn't look too weird just left unplugged.

Also, you have the beginnings of a good idea there, but I would probably like, make a little peg out of a styrene rod, carve or dremel a track into it, and tie the string to that track. Then glue the pegs into the holes you drilled in the chest. This should ensure the strings never pull out.

In the lore it is stated that at least some relic shields have a force field generator to protect the user against frontal attacks (or whatever direction the shield is facing) so the skellington should be fine, and since the tech is so poorly understood they probably see it as the holy skellington protecting the user with its holyness

For me it was the Primarchs. I was admiring the line from afar until they announced Guilliman. Now I have him and Crowe and I'm looking at picking up the Lion, more Grey Knights and Custodian guards as well. I don't think I'll ever army-build, but there are a lot of characters and unit-types that are just too cool to say "no" to.

I've followed 40k on a lore-basis for many years, it's probably my absolute favorite sci-fi franchise. Never collected any 1:18 scale before JT.

For me, it was when I decided to stray outside of my childhood chapter (Space Wolves) because there was a reaaally cool looking smurf. That sorta broke down the barriers, and now I have at least an armful of figures from every chapter under the sun. I can't say I regret it though lol, these things are fucking awesome. Since there are no ratchets in most of them, they also feel great to pose, AND they're fairly durable, so I am constantly picking them up to mess with them. That's the mark of a good toy for me, I kinda hate stuff that looks cool but you never wanna touch it.

I don't know, to be honest I don't even know the lore of the White Consuls but I really like the colour scheme and the romain (ultramarine) heraldic.
On if I would buy other troop types from them it really depends on how they look and also when they come out. If they go head to head with Emperors Children they draw the short straw.

Really surprised, though, that they went with a sculpt/design that JUST got retired in the minis, AND the new primaris version just got released as well! Seems extremely bizarre, given GWs track record!!

Sisters seemed like a no-brainer, as all it required was new backpacks and big guns, but since it's joytoy we'll get the small details, too. Kinda surprised they didn't do the sister from the mobile game.

I am just spitballing here but were vanguard on the roadmap before the minis got axed? Perhaps there is a precedence here now that if the model is no longer being produced and joytoy are already pumping out primaris for their GW overlords, they can also make out of print minis into toys.

I would love the old Sternguard and some normal assault marines.

The real test would be if they were able to make normal, no bells and whistles tactical marines- I don’t care what color I would but hundreds.

For my 33 year old self I have always wanted figures of the warhammer I grew up with, not this call of duty/halo tacticool stuff.

Let the firstborn folks support the figures with their wallets, I am certain that if joytoy makes good profits on the firstborn for GW we can slowly have GW release their death grip on anything prior to the time of primaris.

If GW were smart, they would foster both sides of the fence. Heck I am surprised they don’t have a spinoff 40k game before the indomnitus crusade.

Chances are low with Blood Angels since JoyToy mostly makes toys based on existing official models. However, Raven Guard and Deathwatch were officially shown with the alt weapons. So if they do make Vanguard Veterans in another chapter it would most likely be them.

not only are almost all of the augmentations for a space marine specifically to make them hardier and give them more suitability, but think about just how often an enemy's weapons are described as "able to rip through ceramite like paper" or something to that effect

There are some pretty fundamentally recognized power-tiers in 40k. Greater Daemons and Daemon princes are way, way above rank and file marines.

on a really basic level that only really covers imperials and chaos:
Regular mortals(guardsmen/cultists)>Lesser demons> Astartes >> Custodes(and arguably GreyKnights) >>> Greater Daemons and Princes >> Primarchs > Daemon Primarchs

I din't even try to slot in mortal specialists like assassins, Mechanicum, psychically gifted Inquisitors, or imperial saints like Celestine/Sanguinor who are basically loyalist greater daemons. There's also the legion of the damned, which are undead warp-astartes that come and go with the warp wherever they are needed, they would be the loyalist lesser daemons.

Unless you are a named space marine hero with incredible feats(and plot armor) you are not going to be punching into the Daemon-prince and greater daemon categories. Belakor is a pretty special Daemon prince too, the first one to ever be undivided(gifted power by all 4 chaos gods).

Something lorelets fail to understand is that xenos and chaos are a huge minority in the 40k universe, like I'd say probably 80-90% of battles in the 40k universe involving humans are vs putting down human insurrections or rebellions against the Imperium, or random literally who tiny xenos factions. In which both situations Space Marines are perfectly fine.

I don't know, seems like the lore/power levels are all over the place, a consequence of having abjillion different writers. I don't think GW has any sort of design bible, either, so no baseline rules to follow that aren't based off of the whims of whoever is in charge at the time.

Like, I saw a vid talking about basically this the other day, trying to settle the debate on if lasguns have recoil or not. The jist was that the writing is too inconsistent to rely on to settle the matter, so it'd end up being a matter of interpretation, because you couldn't even rely on currently known physics to answer the question, as there is too much "sci-fi magic" involved. Unreliable narrator doesn't help, either.

There's like 25 years of Lore, alot of older stuff has been retconned or adjusted, but having followed the lore for a long time now, there are definitely trends and rules followed.

A Daemon prince or Greater Daemon bodying marines is definitely standard. To the point where people in the hobby accuse the character of being mary-sues if they hold their own or win against them. Not to say that *groups* of Marines, Grey Knights / Custodes don't win against them, but it's always at cost. In one of the most recent books detailing the Lion's return, Dante and his Honor-guard are casually bitch-smacked aside and almost totally wiped out by Angron. Dante is the single greatest space-marine hero in the setting(not the strongest, but probably the most noble and accomplished). It takes 100+ Grey Knights or a top-tier duellist loyalist Primarch like the Lion(I don't think G-man could do it) to deal a Banishment to Angron and now this motherfucker gets to come back in weeks instead of hundreds of years.

Yeah I'm not disagreeing, and there are far more transhuman(marines, CSM/custodes) then there are greater demons. Demon primarchs are the top of the power tiers before you start getting into nutty stuff like Ctan, Old ones, the Emperor and Chaos Gods. The Silent King could probably take one though.

I'd say Xenos have far more inconsistent power-levels than the main characters of the setting(Imps and Chaos). The Swarmlord used to be the Tyrannid's "big bad" but it got Krumped by named characters right and left. The new Norn Emissaries are looking pretty respectable though, especially with one taking on a dozen Dreadnoughts and another killing 4 Custodes termies and their gunship whilst not even really focusing on them.

Eldar consistently get embarrassed in stories despite having some crazy psykers and tech.

I was talking more about weapons, as I'm not too familiar with character feats, but I have heard about how swarmlord and avatars of khain went from powerful entities to cheap feats of strength. I've also heard of this one time a drukhari wych just one-shot a custodes.

To be fair, these could also be cherry picked instances of writers being lazy/uncreative.

But like I said, I was talking about weapons and equipment, like how the humble lasgun is either the best mass produced weapon anybody could ever want, or a literal flashlight. At least with characters it could be a matter of one is their worst, the other is at their best, but does the lasgun have recoil? Who knows?
Game rules don't help, either, as the boltgun is supposed to be particularly better than the lasgun, but in-game that amounts to just +33% "strength".

Technically no, because the Space wolf riders are firstborn but they dont come with helmets, the Smurf Honor guard is also a firstborn, and one of the captains is also a firstborn, these are however the first one to come with the classic MK VII helmets

Of course, just because something is weak in the 40k setting doesn't mean it doesn't fill the role it was meant for. It's plenty good at killing lightly armored humans and weak xenos. It's just horrendously bad if you had to go up against a ceramite plated space marine with one of them. That's what Helguns/volley guns are for. There are guns for every purpose in 40k.

And no I don't bother trying to square table-top rules with lore. They aren't always going to be consistent, balance and all.

Just cracked open the Chaos Terminator Lord from the pile and it's an improvement on the old mold, at least from the waist up. It's a bit floppy with the hips though, but the arms and shoulders are definitely more stable.

Yeah that's one of the main reasons I sprung for this one. I do like the soft rubber cape, it's a lot easier to deal with when it comes to posing and so on. I tend to ignore caped releases from Joytoy because the capes take away more than they give.
