It's a really solid toy. I just bought my third Rex because of the amazon sale. Also grabbed another set of replacement feet off etsy for it. Sucks spending more money on replacement parts, but I really dont like the oversized feet.

3D scanners generally don't give reproduction quality scans. You'd be able to get a pretty decent shortcut in terms of reversen-engineering them but you'd still have to model them by hand, and if you have to go that far you might as well just get out the calipers, measure the original foot pegs, and model some feet from scratch.

The best thing would be for people to just sell the 3D files, but no one will do that anymore after someone who bought the files off of Marco for his Raptor replacement parts started selling them for cheaper. I have my own printer and I'd love to be able to print them out on demand for my own personal use, but there's zero chance of that happening.

I've made some Star Wars replacement part STLs and I just throw them up for free on Thingieverse because I don't think there's much money in selling files, and I can't be assed to start a business selling the parts. For now I just want to help other people in the hobby, but I understand if something takes a lot of sculpting work and engineering to get right, the creator deserves to have some money thrown their way if that's what they want.

It's most likely based off the Dunn museum model from what I can see all other reconstructions feature full coat of feathers or none at all no in between. The reconstruction was done by Teilor Keilor who also did the absolute hidious meme rex everyone likes to post here once in a while.

Might be a stupid question to ask here, but I've recently moved and currently have no blinds on my windows. Is it safe to put my BotM figures in a room with a window? The window faces north and this is the northern hemisphere so the sun is never directly visible through the window, but wondering if I have to worry about sun damage at all.

Sun will ruin toys no matter what, the lighter the plastic the more issues you'll have faster. If they are fully painted that will cut down on your issues for longer. That said, who gives a shit. It will be months to years before you notice a significant difference, it's unlikely you'll have them on display for that long anyway.

How do you like the modularity shown off with the armor system here? If he builds more armor expansion sets to pair with tiny dinoa, this could be something truly awesome. Total miss that it isn't in classic Rulonian military colors.

I feel like that's largely to do with the colorscheme and the lack of articulated segmentation in the armor itself to fit other saurs easier. With an improper fit it looks off.

On one hand yes it looks way better but I do acknowledge that he can't just completely rip off the entire toyline. That said you can tell that dino riders is a well designed toyline made by legit toy designers with a fantastic eye. Silva was basically always a sculptor first and it shows.

Well put. Damned if you do, dammed of you don't. While I would unironically buy this, I don't need a 1 to 1 copy of a great thing from the past to be happy here. What I expect is for it to tell its own story and do its own thing. The dino rider thing is a nice nod to what started it all. I don't want the cannon badguys to be the same, it's fine they have their own motif, but you need to nail it to make it iconic like DR still is. He's establish he can for special circumstances pay homage, beautifully so, and I guess that means you shouldn't be surprised when many wayward collectors out there have been waiting for this as long as he has keep asking to play the same song over again. Doing a special recolor a year isn't so bad in the grand scheme of things.

I think people mentioned it in the previous thread, but these lines in the past gathered a lot of dinosaur fans, and im sure most of his followers are just looking for the dino figures. Just look at the order numbers on Kickstarter: human figures have barely any orders, armor is pretty much ignored, solo dinosaurs have the highest orders, and the full sets are about half as popular. I think a lot of people view the campaign as "a couple neat dino figures and a bunch of extra stuff I don't care about." and with the small selection of dinos, people aren't buying multiples etc.

I honestly wonder how much time and energy goes into the design, moulds, painting, shipping, etc. for the human figures for them to literally get 27 orders like the fire trooper guy.

I'm glad he's expanding his horizons a bit and the Kickstarter is technically a success so it's not a big deal but I sure hope he continues to make more dino figure lines in the future

Does this include the all in set? Legitimately curious, how do you see the order number? I think people are a bit wary to invest in brand new IP with brand new lore, we don't quite know the quality of the 1/18th human figures. Also, most people who collect 1/18th figures already have a squadron/troop built via Joytoy, Acid Rain, Marauders, or Star Wars TVC. $28 MSRP and $25 KS discount for an 1/18th figure is quite steep price. I wonder how successful the line would be if it is just dinosaur + armor as shameless Dino Rider resurrection akin to Mighty No 9 and Megaman while outsourcing the 1/18th humans to other more established 1/18th studio like Marauders or BFS

I appreciate he is doing his own thing but it’s not hooking the Dino rider fans because it’s too different, and there’s no real cohesive designs between any of the armor. The human characters in this line are abysmal. They look like D tier also rans that were enemy fodder for half a level in a forgotten ps3 videogame.

It should be easy to create memorable interesting human figures in this sort of setting. Throw in small dinosaur pets like a falconer or a little proto on a chain, etc. Body armor out of dino bones or skin. Wounds like significant scars and battle damage from living in a world where dinosaurs are all around and your mounts and pets and livestock.
But there's none of that.

This looks awesome, I really hope it gets funded by the end of the campaign, even if the carnotaurus and forest dragon don't make it, I definitely want this armored dilophosaurus and the achillobator with the razorhound armor.

The transforming armors really tic all the boxes for me, well the fire clan ones anyway, the allosaurus armor is kinda boring and more partsforming than transforming.

I'm honestly tempted to just get the allo armor without the dino because I like the ship mode itself. Honestly, as much as I love dinos in general, I'm probably going to avoid buying most of em and just get armor and troops. I'll stick with the Hammond stuff for actual dinos, I have no problems giving up "accuracy" for playability.

There's nothing serious about it though, it's just bland, boring, generic stuff. They don't need to have giant guns and neon colors and toxic waste tank sprayers(though id enjoy all of that), and nothing I suggested is out of the realm of what the cyberzoic world already is.

There's exactly 3 hints of flair and personality in this entire toyline so far- the little pterodactyl drone, the girl being half naked, and the dienonychus having a storage pack for one of its attachments. Everything else is just "dinosaur with gun" and "dinosaur with blade."
An even semi serious sci fi toy that bothered to consider anything would have things like gear, tool, food and storage for all these war machine dinosaurs the way we see in lines like Acid Rain where many of their figures and vehicles have stuff like this. The fact that a society that rides tamed dinosaurs doesn't have small personal pets the way a horse owner has a dog is stupid too.

If you remove these figures from the dinosaurs and show them to people not a single thing suggests they are figures paired with or living amongst dinosaurs. They are some of the worst designed figures I've seen in recent memory, and it gives me no pleasure to say so.

I think your're being a little harsh given that most of the human figures are like half the price of Acid Rain humans. That being said, I mostly agree. It would be nice if there was more that told you the story and the connections through enviromental story telling. As it is the Fire Clan, which is the only one I like Aesthetic wise, doesnt really tell you much other than that it's edgy. It'd be nice if the Fire Clan sets came with dino nests or broken/repurpoused tech and the Tech clan came with like little testtube dinosaurs and other tech

Imagine saying this like it's a bad thing and trying to be taken seriously.

From what I seen so far, the four different clans they've shown off figures for seem pretty distinct. Techbros are all clean lines and shiny silver, Firedudes are edgy bone lovers who's armor turns into pets, the Badlands dudes seem fairly wannabe-Tacticool with their little pet dino all geared up and the Dragonfolk are space barbarian elves without the pointy ears.

They're diverse enough from each other to understandably be in different factions and that's really all they need to accomplish.

The human figures are generic and there's a palpable disconnect in the line which is why things feel a bit off for me. The dinosaurs are striving for hyper realism and the riders and gear are not, but they're also not pushing things far enough to be crazy fun either. It feels like a very weird middle ground that strangled most of the more interesting stuff one way or another- hyper realism or wacky, crazy sci fi- out. And the result is something pretty generic, especially with the figures.

I mean you have to be a little forgiving considering their price. Something like pic-related costs double the price of one of the human figures on Pocket in Action Club and quadruple the price on Big Bad Toy Store. And Joy Toy's Infinity stuff and Battle For The Stars figures are 15 to 20 bucks more expensive.
David's main customer base unfortunately doesn't care about the humans, you can see it from this thread and from the purchases in the crowdfund so having $40-50 humans with neat little bits of flare just isn't a good financial decision at least not unless David wants to put more effort into courting people who collect 1:18 toys.

Maybe it's better that I just keep doing it for fun then rather than looking to get something out of it other than personal satisfaction. I kind of have to assume that as soon as the file is out there it's going to end up on Etsy and eBay. I can't shake the feeling that it is kinda underwhelming, like we are not getting back for the buck. For comparison on the other KS we had dozens of figures of basically the whole family of species. The raptors were $350k campaign and we got many SKUs and variants. Ceratopsians were $270k campaign and we got the whole goddamn family.

Now we got 5 unique species and 1 repaint. Maybe 6 if Dilo is unlocked.
1. Arctic Dragon
2. Allosaurus
3. Smilodon
3.b. Sabretooth repaint/alt head
4. Achillobator
5. Deinonychus

Then despite all the lore and wordbuilding, just to tally off we got
2 Tech clan units (Allosaurus and Sabretooth)
2 Dragon clan units (Arctic Dragon and Smilodon)
2 Fire clan units (Achillobator and Dryptosaurus)
1 Desert clan unit (Deinonychus)

Where is the backwards compatible ceratopsian armors? backwards compatible BOTM raptor armors? Big T rex armor? Some humanoid army builders as dino food? Or the promised Carnotaurus, Stegosaurus.

I wonder would the line be a bigger success if it is a medieval fantasy armor and humans instead? It always feels awkward with sci-fi fantasy that they have all these techs but they rather ride on dumb extinct animals.

With medieval fantasy you can just say that someone found a lost world where dinosaur exists, and breeding and controlling the dinos and the dragons will give the warring kingdom superior arsenals. It'll allow for some armor reuse between clans, between dinos, and even amongst humans of different kindom. I think the 1/18th fantasy setting market is less saturated than sci-fi or modern trooper.

We just need a couple armored knights, light armored rogue/thief like characters, some civilian-robed mages, maybe some canons and catapults.

I'm really not sure. I don't think oversaturation is really the problem. Compatibility with other 1/18 lines is probably a good thing. Vitruvian Hacks has a lot of Medieval and fantasy figures that would work well with a Medieval fantasy-themed Dinosaur line, but Joy Toy's Battle for the Stars and Infinity lines would work well with the Tech Clan and Toy Alliance has Acid Rain which the Fire Clan would work well with. And the Desert Clan is generic enough that it would work with basically anything.

I say this as someone who doesn't really have strong opinions on sci-fi or medieval since I'm just going to do cobble together a post-apocalyptic Western setting anyway.

Medieval is cool, but for me I would have LOVED a tribal theme. Primitive hunans riding on their animal companions, bone armor, war paint, piercings, carvings, leather saddles, tribal weapons, war cries and loincloths. Would have been so sick and primal, even if it's a bit less creative compared to sci fi.

I don't think there's anything stopping him, just like there's nothing stopping me from putting Dime Novel Legends Clint Eastwood and Boss Fight Studio saddle on the Lythronax and calling them the Grey Rider and his Gila Drake. I think the point that Anon was making is that it'd be cool if the dinosaurs came with bone armors, war paints, and tribal weapons that were made for them so there could be a wide variety of tribal warriors. There is only so much mileage you can get out of the Boss Fight Studio Tarzan and Jane after all.

Yeah this is entirely underwhelming, and with David deciding not to include Stegosaurus, Pachycepholosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus etc etc like he said would be included has really hurt this kickstarter I feel. Yutyrannus is also getting a repaint, so two repaints that cost as much as entirely new sculpts to unlock. Utahraptor should also be the same sculpt as Achillobator, with minimal differences in paint too. Carnotaurus and the forest dragon are supposed to be the last two rewards to be unlocked. Raptor, trike, and rex armors would have been the smart thing to do but there hasnt been a lot of that going on this time around.

Like I get being nostalgic for your childhood, but the anachronistic prehistoric mashup of tribal peoples and dinosaurs has literally been around since as soon as we started depicting dinosaurs in media. Having at least one of the clans fully embrace the tribal aesthetic seems like it should have been a no-brainer.

Ankylosauridaes are confirmed for Cyberzoic II, hella based. Dilo is the figure I'm most excited for, I hope at least it gets funded through $360k. The campaign actually hover around 1000 backers I guess a lot of people canceling and backing Giant Man instead out of FOMO. Tough market for crowdfunding toys.

The fire clan and idea of combining robot of other animal + dino is totally awesome. The tech clan in comparison is kinda lame. One hovercraft is okay, but multiple hovercrafts and they look pretty samey. Sadly both Triceratops and T-rex int the concept art is a tech clan.

What would've been absolute FIRE if they have T-rex armor be a robot Triceratops, they combine into some kind of armored T-rex with Triceratops helmet as tribute to Ultimasaurus. Sadly BOTM big T-rex is kinda limited articulation-wise. I really hope they revisit the flagship 1/18th T-rex and improved the articulation.

he stated that the Acro, Stego, and Pachy and their armors and riders are being released separately (probably as part of the backer kit) because they would make the Kickstarter too expensive. They are still supposed to release at around the same time as the Kickstarter figures, so that's good. here is the post where he talks about it.

It is probably a scale thing. Ankylo require a larger body that probably on the medium Ceratopsian scale (e.g., Pentaceratops, Xenoceratops), while Edmontonia is on the Styracosaurus, juvenile Triceratops scale.

Seems like KS gonna hit 340-360k range. Considering the initial plan, assuming $40k per dino + armor unlock, we miss out on Utahraptor, Yutyranus repaint, Carnotaurus, and Forest Dragon. I'm okay with the tech clan in principle, but the implementation of the designs are less imaginative than the Fire clan. Tech clan designs are just basically strap a hovercraft with guns onto the back of the dinosaur and put a visor on the dinosaur. The thing is unlocking via KS campaign is the fastest we can get these figures shipped. So not being unlocked via campaign might cause delays, etc. or figures being shuffled into next wave/campaign.

What a disappointment, I was expecting some fancy gimmick for a flagship popular dinosaur. The armor doesn't even transform, this is the most basic armor we have yet. At least Deinonychus was not rideable and cheap, meant to be an army builder, this is just uninspired compared to dog armor, pterodactyl armor.

I like it. Simple and straightforward looks better.
The complex gimmick armors are neat concepts but the execution looks less than ideal. They all look exceedingly bulky, with some like the dilo armor looking way, way too big for the dinosaur that it's on.
I also don't think it's wise to discount the production, engineering and QC issues that have plagued this line. While the dinos have been steadily improving through trial and error, a bunch of brand new items like this that have wholly unique engineering with tons of small parts, complex functions and transformation gimmicks is incredibly difficult to get right. A joint on a dinosaur that doesn't work the way it's intended means a leg or a neck might not have a great range of motion. A joint on a transformer not working the way it's supposed to means the toy literally may not be able to function.

So both aesthetically and functionally I'm more into the simpler, more streamlined armors.

We know what colour several dinosaurs were. Of those known, Psittacosaurus and Microraptor have been done by David and in both cases he has adhered to their known colouring faithfully. It is known that many dinosaurs had colourful display features, such as the red crest on Anchiornis. Additionally, modern dinosaurs often have brightly-coloured display features, and outside of dinosaurs plenty of male reptiles become temporarily colourful during breeding seasons. He has done nothing as absurd as a peacock's tail.

Was waiting to see the full creature, I like it better than the arctic dragon, but this guy might be a bit too skinny. If the two designs were combined it would be almost perfect. The color and wings of the forest dragon but with the bulkier body of the arctic dragon.

I guess I was hoping we'd end up with a super articulated version of something more like a 3.5 edition D&D chromatic dragon. Then again those designs are probably copywrited by Hasbro so they could cease and desist if someone produces something too similar.

Its not the entire armor kit, but it does mention that the Carnotaurus' saddle will also fit on the body 2 ceratopsians. I forget if body 2 was the next size up from zuniceratops or the next size up after that, since zuni is the only one that uses the smallest body.

This is going to blow your mind but the $1725.00 is less than what I make in a single day of work, after tax. This is not an irresponsible purchase, its fully within my piss away on fun budget. Plus these are for my son when he is finally out of diapers. I’ll probably only take the dragons out of the boxes myself.

IDK if those are the final colors, the carno armor prototype was unfinished, so that was put together last minute.

I personally like the saddle with guns on the side, and I like that it looks like carno's helmet has smaller guns so he can still fend of attack from the sides while using the big guns on its main target.
