It's like saying all stores across america are in financial trouble because the cost of goods have gone up and a lot of companies have shrunk down what you're actually getting for your money. Profit margins need to remain consistently the same for a business and that's what you're seeing.
If McFarlane were really in financial trouble, they wouldn't be licensing shit anymore. Instead we saw them pick up football, baseball, and who knows what other american sport licenses they got. American sport licenses are as costly as any video game or movie license.
They also expanded on their movie mcstatues line, which means they're picking up individual licenses for each movie franchise, unlike getting some catchall license like Marvel or DC with thousands of characters. A catch-all license for seperate movie/tv series don't exist, especially for LotR, Harry Potter, and other huge properties.
Nevermind their newly acquired Blizzard license and also licensing Hasbro stuff like gI Joe and Transformers (each their own licenses).
In short, companies that aren't doing well can't be buying up licenses. The fact McFarlane is actually expanding the DC line is a sign of growth.
