It's obviously selling if they keep making more. The pegs are regurlarly seeing new figs. Online sales must be good enough that retailers keep selling out of things online. Plenty of ppl talk about them and post them here, on social media, and all over other toy forums.

The purpose of GI Joe Is not to make profit. Its to have an IP. Hasbro is trying to have as many IPs as possible to dominate the toy aisle.

But yes you are right. GI Joe is not popular and doesn't sell well. Its production runs are a lot smaller than ML. It seems like its always sold out because they make so few GI joes that they are all immediately bought.

You'll notice maybe only 5% of stores stock the new waves, but every store had the latest MCU figures. So maybe they make like 5000 GI joe figures per wave.

Joe fest is like 500 people so it might literally only be 1000 collectors total.

You're pulling ridiculous numbers out of your ass, but the take is the correct one.

Many stores don't carry Joes in the US, let alone internationally. It sells a lot but mostly online, most people get their figures through Hasbro pulse.

The proof that it sells is the Haslabs, both have been funded within days of opening and have reached all goal. Joes have a small (not 1,000 small, but definitely smaller than Legends) fanbase, but they're loyal as fuck and super completionist. It does help that the figures have amazing value for the price.

Yep. I grew up in the UK during the 90s; military action figures like Action Man were pretty big back then, some Joe, too, but the interest in that whole genre went away by 2000, it seemed. Lots more Lego, transformers, Star Wars, and new brands after that. Today I don’t know one kid (extended family) who even has gi joes. I’m not surprised that it’s boomer collectors and a small number of kids buying.

Seriously, the phantom "what if?" competitors. Roblox and Fortnite have or had some good runs, there's always something the kids latch on to. I guess squishmallows are a big thing right now? They just don't want anyone to get a toehold. Mattel or Todd or some nobody could come out of nowhere with the license for the next big anime, who knows? Better to prevent it from beginning than chase their tail later. And, a line like GI Joe is really cheap for Hasbro, they just keep prices up to look like that's where their costs are.

It’s another symptom of the feminization that’s happened to boys over the past 30 years. It was already happening when I was a kid, but we still played rough, and most boys enjoyed action and a little violence bc that’s natural. All of us had action figures with guns, knives, etc. Some of the action man figures I had came with combat knives bigger than the doll’s head. Nowadays, all that is de-emphasized by obese female teachers who want kids to sit still inside a rigid desk all day. Most of the education movements in my lifetime have been emasculating, and I’m certain that’s trickled into toy habits as well.
