I mean, if you only buy imports you're not going to lose money if you have to sell them all at some point. In fact, you'd probably make a small profit even if you sell them and replace them when better versions of the same characters come out a few years later. But is it worth buying purely for investment? No, not unless you have enough free time you could be working a minimum wage job where you'd be making far more. Better off buying dividend stocks.

Honestly they are rhe best investment I have liquidated my 401k and diversified my portfolio into several areas, 1/12 action and imports, statues, and Legos to name a few. The returns have already been amazing!

Personally, I would say no, with a few exceptions. Like the other day, I saw a new old stock motorized Meccano set from the 1960s. This would be $50-100 in the U.S, but you could easily find a U.K buyer who would spend the equivalent of $150 for it, if not more.

As a general rule, though toys are not money makers. I diversified with coins, anon, maybe get a Red Book and look into it.

The roi can be decent but do people realise what holding tens of thousands of dollars worth of toys as an investment actually looks like? Youd need an entire storage shed/warehouse. Its retarded, investment companies dont invest in toys for this reason. They are low value goods in the end.

Most of the time when you buy something, you're paying shipping, taxes, the time to find it / order, the time to unpack and the space to store it, then when you sell it, you have to list it, package it and deal with taxes and sellers fees. Even if a toy appreciates 50% in 2 years, you might be no further ahead except for a waste of time and space when you could have just bought a GIC with your bank for 4% compounding yearly, or bought some gold bullion which is easy to liquidate into cash than collectibles.

Unless you're chasing after high end stuff (1k+ values) and making big margins on resale, it's not worth it.

I wouldn’t recommend investing in a hobby product category unless you’re already in love with it and an expert. I couldn’t imagine the amount of time and effort needed to start working these highly specialized markets without also enjoying the process.

Nah, toys are too unpredictable, a single action figure may end up being worth 100s maybe even 1000s of dollars, you'd have to waste that much buying an entire line of garbage just to get this rando once in a blue moon item.

The reason it worked in the past is because literally no one cared about toys, so the old ones in good condition actually became genuinely hard to find. But now there are entire places like /toy/ dedicated to them and figures designed specifically for adults.

by and large though you will find the market very unpredictable.

I collect for my own pleasure and whatever extras I buy that happen to be worth alot after the fact I will sell to fund more collecting; I would not do it for pure profit though.

This pretty much. Its great when your stuff can kinda fund itself and you don't really need to spend much or any at all on new stuff. Doing it purely for profit though, you're better off investing in something else that doesn't take as much physical space.

Yes to both of these. Collector-haters want to take this simple pleasure from me. I have a busy life and these are my relaxing moments; some people crack open a beer, some warm a spoon of fresh crack rocks, I however take pleasure in watching delivery status updates and the unpredictable nature of modern shipping, watching with horror as my WalMart shitty plastic bubble bag has a massive footprint on it, a crushed Range Viper inside hanging on for dear life, or a Hasbro Pulse shipped box with 3 or 4 pristine figures and their boxes arriving undamaged, makes my heart skip a beat.

People will pay what they want and feel is appropriate, not you. Also making claims what generations beyond Gen Z will want is absurd. No. I'm in to a lot of different shit, and have built a lot of collections just out of genuine interest in stuff. I have action figures, trading cards, guitars, guns, knives, books, video games, and other stuff. I also have money invested in stocks, crypto, and precious metals.

I never bought any action figures as an investment, but sometimes I sell stuff off or just get curious and look up prices. For the most part, prices either stay stagnate or drop over time. The stuff that does end up skyrocketing is pretty difficult to figure out. For instance; Amazing Spider-Man 2 stuff used to be basically worthless, but it skyrocketed because of the No Way Home movie. You're going to end up losing a whole lot of money if you try to just buy stuff and stash it until it goes up in value.

Crazy enough; trading cards are the one thing I listed that have performed the best. Fucking pokemon cards I bought just because I liked the art are outperforming stocks and crypto.

Hold for a few years and it will be higher sealed. Especially if it’s a good figure. However you’ll likely make more throwing money into a high yield savings account. Treat it like a hobby

I managed to buy a house by holding onto Pokemon and MtG cards until recently but it took 20 years and unusual spikes in market interest to do it. Toys and cards are too slow and labour intensive to ever recommend as an investment. I still buy and sell MtG and some vintage toys too but if you ever crunched the APY on those badboys it would be embarrassingly low. There's also the issue that having no knowledge on the subject puts you at a major disadvantage. You really need to be somewhat interested in the actual physical thing or you'll inevitably get scammed, its not like swing trading on shitcoins you're dealing with autistic nerds and manchildren .
