I guess I don't blame them right now for not having the confidence to totally redesign a flawed-if-charming old toy. They at least modified the double-armed wings and stuff.
Come to think of it though, what's with the red torso claws? on this version they actually look like they're someone's fingers, unlike the new one where they look like angular pipes. they obviously don't belong to the quetzalman. weird choice.
also both versions look like the quetzalwings have pop out weapons, but i haven't seen him use those yet. doesn't look like the original could even hold a weapon

Maybe it's because I started collecting as an adult during the movie era and missed out on some CHUGs so I learned to just cope with Skywarp being a voyager while Screamer and TC were deluxes with the same bodytype, or how Ramjet is a huge white Starscream and Thrust is an entirely different-looking guy
Same deal with my CHUG Red Alert and Siege Sideswipe

Weirdly enough, the giganotosaurus new kibble-free chest seems off to me. He actually had the robot chest in the anime too. But it's pretty cool that it hides inside the body now.

Nonetheless, and other than the wonky new position of the giganotosaurus arms in the sideskirts, this looks way better than I expected. I already own the original and I'm plenty happy with it, but maybe I will get this new one too.

it's too bad transformers never have enough wrist tilt to let them wield swords in a useful way, but this one damn near needs to use his as a chainsaw with that bulky thing at the bottom. plus it's jagged enough to be one already. I wonder what grip options he'll have

the issue here is they were so keen on the idea, having the dino feet just sit atop the fold-out robot feet (which also help with the chimera mode I think? those are connectors?) that they ended up giving him... really long dino thighs and short shins and feet, fucking up the beast mode. a much better way would have been to have the dino feet fold upward and become cool shin pads with spiked knees.

also not sure how you're getting 'rollerskates' out of 'every late 80s early 90s movie mecha leg enhancement'

The funny thing is the new one does still have the mechanical shit fold from thigh down to calf, so it's still bulking out the robot mode legs in a decent way, just a way more subtle way.
I'm amazed neither of them thought of something better to do with his tail though, especially with all that hollow real estate on his back.

just a bonus for your other transformers I suppose. I'm told they're a remold of a previous unrelated guy's blast effects. either way, they are welcome to me. i am warming up to this guy more and more. it's too bad there's nobody to redeco him as, because a version where the elasmosaur is maybe a lighter blue and the quetzal is gray or something, I'd be way more down for that.

They seem removable to me, and they even have pegs. So I guess the new one can also hold the sword handle as a gun and use those as missiles or attach the effect parts to it.

They almost always are.
Hasbro's been reusing the Siege Jetfire and Omega Supreme effects like crazy. They barely even make new ones anymore, even the Haslabs are reusing them.

I always looked at it this way, with the the red part on top being just skin or whatever.
Yes, it is an innacurate mess, but I still like it better than the new one, makes for a more interesting look in robot mode too.

Yeah, not going to deny that. I know those wings are pure nonsense for sure.

They could have used this chance to make those look more like the real thing, but in this new Skysaur there's no elbows to be found.

Just me being nitpicky here, it's not a deal breaker at all.

Always wanted this guy. Not sure how he compares to the original, but at least now I can get him without paying an arm and a leg to scalpers. Plus it looks like he can actually turn his head, which is a hangup I had over seeing the original.

I don't know when you got interested in this guy, but the official korean version was cheap as fuck years ago, I got it back then. No clue how much it costs now.

I also remember getting Big Convoy for less than 20 bucks some time after that. The korean seller had a good bunch of them, all of them new with the instructions and all the accesories but missing the box.

boy this is not a flattering shot though. it looks like his arms attach pretty low on the body, that might just be the dealkiller for me. There's nothing as disruptive as having arms attached too low, as anyone who's tried modifying a stock Ninjago mech knows.

Looks to be about the size of Armada Optimus in his Super Mode. Magmatron and Jetfire almost look about the same height but Lio Convoy's feet reaches above Jetfire's knee while it reaches around the bottom of Magmatron's knee. And since Armada Optimus is a head smaller than Jetfire this seems to be likely.

Rodimus is small, though that's a given thanks ot his winnebago. And Ultra Magnus is only slightly taller than Grimlock who was Leader.

Makes me wonder if Big Convoy is still going to be a Leader class or will he be a Commander and size up to truly live up to his name.

it's not a matter of opinion, he's A) meant to be much bigger on the show and will be out of scale if they continue making season 3 characters, and B) leaves ZERO room in between for the transmetal 1 version, by being a damn centimeter taller than the pre-transmetal one.

Does it bug anyone else that the OG toy was clearly going to be light up with small lights? He has a spot for two 90's sized watch batteries on his back and it looks like a light would have lit up his Matrix and chest and that ine transparent arm.

if they don't improve on the original (or previous one, in the case of rhinox), and i have the original, I'm still happy to buy the new one in a different color, as a different guy. being a new toy actually helps, so they don't just look like clones. Because I rarely have any recolors of the originals, if they even had them (just because someone doesn't, is no excuse not to make one! OCs, come on! You do it with car guys all the time)
Not that I'm going to run out and buy the Tigerhawk mold, but in that case I own both uses of the original already. kinda surprised he didn't get a Takara color-tweak actually.

they did make Tigerhawk show colors, so that is technically a step in the right direction, since preciously they had either been making the beast modes toy colored (primal, airazor) or just tweaking colors based on bad screencaps (cheetor, scorponok). elsewise we might expect a toy color Big Convoy with takara giving us the show color one later. subtler, but still significant.

So, for those of you excited for Magmatron, have you guys seen BW Neo? How is it?
I've still yet to watch it, but I watched BW II and it wasn't really my thing; had some ok moments, but overall i felt it was a bit too basic with its humor/writing and animation. Saw the first ep of Neo tho, and it *seems* to be a big improvement? And I'm also a big fan of Car Robots, so, would it be more up my alley?
Also might as well ask about the Beast Wars early-IDW comic, since Magmatron, lel. Was it a good comic beyond just him?

I mean they haven't really done this for other series with their direct sequels, unless I'm forgetting something. It's not like they released Cybertron Megs with Armada Prime, They did the main Armada guys(your Optimus, your Megatron, your Starscream, and your Bumblebee(well, Bumblebee equivalent)) all together in pretty short succession. its just BW II and Neo that have this weird mismatch. But BW II and Neo aren't mismatched? Magmatron is coming out next year and Lio Convoy already came out earlier this year so the two aren't released together. It's going to most likely be spaced out just like the Animated guys.

Armada is the exception but it still follows that rule sort of, next year we're getting Megatron's power up buddy and Optimus will probably get Jetfire in the year after or so, so Hasbro will rope you in for more Armada updates in the next coming years without having to space the rivals between two years or something.

Have you ever owned either figure? Seems like you haven't. BW2 Galvatron is a classic, made Lio Convoy of the time look like garbage & only ever got a good rendition of his nemesis when the MP came out. Galvatron was good enough for people to display MP48 with BW2 Galvatron.

Big Convoy got multiple reissues/rereleases in varying colours over the years. The mold was that solid Botcon & Takara felt the need to rerelease it instead of do nothing & make something new eventually.

Motherfuckers! I just bought my first and only Titan figure. I never even bothered watching reviews or drooling at pictures because I knew it was way out of my budget and I hardly buy any new toys, but always only legends/core or Deluxe transformers. This was way out of my scope.

However at this price, I HAD to take the plunge. $60 for this sucker seems like such a deal. It's so big I can't even hold the box with one hand. The biggest TF toy I ever had was original purple Megatron from Beast Wars waaay back in the day. I wanna say this ship will scale pretty well with my core class figures. I only have a core class Prime as far as Autobots, but I hope to gather a few more down the road. I'd really dig an Ironhide or Jazz. I have a core
Megatron and Soundwave abd a legends class Shockwave from years back.

I can't wait to open this box up when I get home later tonight. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Does anyone have this toy and is there anything I should know going in before I open the box up and mess with him?

Don't lose the tiny ass Optimus Prime microfigure that is inside a plastic bag.
Careful with the shoulder ratchets, they're tight as fuck.
Also, if one of the Golden Disks don't seem to attach securely in their place, reverse their position. One of them is slightly bigger and is supposed to be on top of the other.

Not sure if they crossed over in the anime (in one of those summer movies?) but this reminds me of the manga chapter that bridged BWII and Neo. Where Lio Convoy time traveled and basically created Big Convoy by giving his life. Same thing pretty much happened for the bad guys. So they fought a bit there. It made no sense to the Neo story haha. I think each crew turned the animals from Neo into Transformers and that might've come up again in the manga.

well his torso is kind of odd, but basically the waist is a lot higher than the hips. like where a woman keeps her waist. that's also how oldtimey suits of armor did it, but it still looks odd. and his thighs seem quite long, but it might just be the odd placement of the knee plates.

you'd just have to change it so it was good. actual dragon legs. robot thighs that aren't short and skinny. bigger and better tank treads. and a better way of stowing the drill in dragon mode.

Exactly. he's the kind of Super Robot that's so unabashedly goofy it becomes awesome. Only things about the design I'd really wanna change is slightly alter his leg proportions so his thighs aren't quite so insubstantial and give him bigger heels, and try and reduce the backpack but anything more and you can start to fundamentally alter a design to something it's not

For Beast Wars fans, how do you guys generally regard the Transmetal designs?

Speaking personally, I wasn't, uh. alive.. then, so I didn't get into BW until just a few years ago. I think all the S1 designs are tasteful and the II/Neo-original designs are really fun, but something about the Transmetals specifically doesn't quite click with me. I quite like TM1 Megatron, his colors aren't as wild of a departure or loud as the other TMs, and his heelies and VTOLs are indeed silly but comparatively minimal. The others come across as very garish and obnoxious to me, unfortunately, and the TM2's and Fuzors don't fair much better with me.

I absolutely love them. At the time its when the show got really good too, Primal just died and Rhinox Astral projected to get him back so I remember it being a huge deal as a kid. Then Depthcharge and Rampage happened, Transmutate, Megatron blowing up Optimus, Tarantulas etc so many good moments and fond memories of transmetals. I dont know how else to articulate how much I love their design they were just so cool. That and Beetleborgs is why I love chrome toys so much. Its crazy to me that Legacy doesn't want to touch them except Ravage which was an exclusive I couldnt find.

Transmetal 2s were fucking weird. Watching Beast Wars was like how DBZ had super saiyin 1 2 and 3 and you were always so excited when someone got a new form. Transmetal 2s were very supernatural, horror themed, even more connected to the ancient alien shit and even more detailed almost like a McFarlane toys. And they went back to doing random characters that didnt appear in the show which was fun. And then Skybyte in RiD happened who everyone loves too.

Uh, so for 90s kids, shit being metallic and chrome was pretty much an instant appeal, buuut I must say, the main TM1 designs, I liked about half of them.
It is also weird how most of the toy-only TM1s (who were still based on show characters) deliberately altered their colors, but always got a recolor that WAS more close to the original character... but intended to be someone else. very strange
the idea is half good half bad. Vehicular beast modes? great. inverting the organic and metallic parts of their modes? less great. led to some really gross looking robot modes. and once you're clearly a machine in both forms, some altmodes become superfluous. does Primal ever really need to turn into a gorilla? only because he has his ridiculous surfboard in that mode...
some iffy color choices too. but eh, t'was the 90s
best TM1s have gotta be Rattrap, Megatron, Rampage, Tarantulas, and the toy-only Waspinator. Scavenger is an honorable mention.

Fuzors are the best idea ever, but the execution varied. they basically fall into three camps. good, uncreative, and why are they so mutated instead of just being fused together?

TM2s weirdly work better and I can overlook the stylistic asymmetry, the main issue with them is that their transformations all became incredibly lame. You could not hide the fact that this is the same being from a second ago, with the same visible parts, just in a different configuration. But somehow they also felt more cohesive as a group than anything else in beast wars.

oh, and all three had a problem with no longer having normal weapons. seriously out of the entire season 2 and 3 new cast, and most of the toy-original ones, the only guy to get to have a real gun is TM2 Cheetor, and that's by tearing what is obviously a jet turbine off of his back and awkwardly holding its square mounting peg with his awkward flat banana fingers.
It certainly was creative seeing the show cheat for them though.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the show too, by the way. For me, my favorite part of the show was S1; I think it sold really well the feeling of like, this being a tiny guerilla war being squabbled over on some backwater-yet-bizarre planet in the middle of nowhere. Episodes like the one where Rhinox+Rattrap+Cheetor were stumbling around blinded, lost in the wilderness, are ones that stick out in my mind; that was a great concept. S2/3 weren't bad by any means, but I def feel they got more bombastic, and maybe lost a bit of that "raw" feel. That said, stuff like Rampage n Depth Charge were too silly not to be incredibly entertaining and fun, lmao.
Also funny u mention them, but I actually really liked the Car Robots goons lel. Maybe it's bc they were played for goofballs, so their over-the-top designs worked in favor of that, while in BW n its anime they're mostly played straight for the cool factor? Iunnae.

N yeah, for context I was born in 2001, so Animated n early-Bay were my main things growing up. Very.. clashing styles, but somehow I managed to appreciate both anywho.

You should check out some repaints of them. Off the top of my head:

Primal Prime made Optimal Optimus in G1 Optimus colors and looked amazing. Modern toys and 3rd party toys give him a black color like his season 1 form.

Airrazor got a black repaint in Armada.
Terrorsaur got a G1 Dinobot color repaint in Beast Machines as Terranotron
Tarantulas Walmart repaint is almost monochrome just black and silver.
Cheetor got a black repaint and red repaint in Armada and Walmart respectively.

yeah, i know that's part of it, but like I said I have older figures where all the screws and pins still look fine, and it's not even consistent which is weird. Some figures have just one pin with rust and the rest are fine

I blame all the boomers crying about shellforming and the younger zoomers who only know biased TFwiki articles about it.
Car robots stands out among Transformers because it's the only one that really feels like it was trying to adapt to then-modern Japanese mecha design trends. Maybe Alternity, too. The kibble and spindly, sleek robot mode looks at home with other 2000's; TF has otherwise been stuck in this rut of 80's homages or uncool American animation designs.
I'm already seeing retards in these threads wanting a Big Convoy "without shellforming" because they have no fucking clue that the whole point of the "shellforming" is that every piece is a weapon.

Low-key, Big Convoy is meant to be a 15th anniversary design so he homages G1 Convoy in a few ways. He also has the lights on top of his chest evoking the truck lights on Optimus. Giving him a matrix was another big thing to sell that he was special.

I actually hate most of the transmetals designs compared to their season 1 counterparts but that might just be my brain hating a lot of the new contrasting colours on them.

The only one I properly like is Tarantulas which is probably because while his new design changes the colours, it’s such a good design and none of the colours overpower each other, if that makes sense? But then again my favorute version of that design is the organic one from IDW because of how creepy it was

One aspect that they lose that I miss is how the Season 1 Maximals had earthy beast mode colors and bright robot colors that helped show the divide between fake organic parts and robotic part.
That said, I think Megatron and Tarantula's colors look good, Rattrap is about the same and the wheeled rat mode is a huge boon, Cheetor's beast mode is cool but his robot mode less so, Primal is a total downgrade.

This line definitely seems like it’s low on budget or something. Early studio series wasn’t that great, but they were at least able to come out with one or two good molds during the first wave. It’s insane that every new gamer edition mold just finds a different way to compromise itself.

they tried to reverse it, but in practice (And because they were now fully based on the toys, which frequently just had 'these are the plastic colors you get') it just looked like weird robot A weird robot B

the gimmicks just have to be good, is all. they have to make sense and look right. there's vague circles on the bottom of the mammoth feet, but they're too visibly hollow to function as gatling guns (I would have had two of them form jetpack rockets). there's molded missile pods in the head-halves, but there isn't depth enough for those missiles to actually have any length to them (perhaps mini-rocket pods would have been better). and his cannon coming out of his spine is okay, but it's kind of a mess that barely registers as a cannon, and it has no need to pop out in beast mode. gimmicks affecting beast mode were the dumbest, especially guys like Jetfire where the missiles only pointed in a useful direction in beast mode. or airazor having those wing-pincers.

Looking at the pictures, I'm sorry anon, but really not noticing what kibble is missing according to you; maybe the extra bumper on the shoulder, but iirc you can plug in the bumper weapon onto the shoulder too? I think I saw that in a review. Also I remember seeing that the knife-blaster can still be wielded like a knife, it's just that the gun barrel is thicker to accomodate a blast effect port, so it's a bit thicker..
Also think it's unfair to complain about the alt mode, since it's clearly trying to evoke the Cyberverse car design, and will obviously be retooled for Speed Breaker proper.
Really my one complaint is that the new figure is missing the missile, since said missile did appear in animation as simply part of the bumper weapon, and could double as the underside detailings of the car; I thought that looked cool.

Earthspark is a cool design on its own and while I do actually enjoy his less villainous characterisation, it’s pretty much just his IDW design minus the organic elements and imo the organic elements are what make IDW Tarantulas my favourite; it just adds so much to how creepy he is in the comics and is one of the reasons why I love sins of the wreckers

Studio Series does though, for sure. The gamer series has been a total dud and with the line moving into concept figures it seems there's little motivation to finish off the handful of remaining actual movie characters. That said, much as people bemoan the 86 line I think there's still a lot of potential there.

I might need to learn more about /k/ stuff before i can really talk, I just know that... I know more than I used to, and I see in 90s toys, things that I used to draw myself (thanks to 90s toys) and that I now feel silly about. Big cannons that just come out of nowhere, no reasonable place for the ammo or mechanisms to go, exposed missiles with no pod covers, having a million tiny gun emplacements blistering the whole body (Except on someone really huge, i'm okay with that. those are basically anti-swarming defenses)

He's gappy and hollow limbs. Arms from Elbow to fists are hollow entirely almost, Biceps as well have holes and rectangular gaps in em too
Wings have horrible open gapes and ugly rectangles.
The Gun barrels are entirely gappy when %100 could have just been full cast instead but they HAD to corner cut that too
And that giant boxy chest Gives me Rob Liefield vibes

Back of the legs are dogshit too
You can see in Tank mode that because the Feet fold back into the Legs for Alt mode it shows the tiny flat tank treads fold in for Robot Mode
So it's still half full in Robot.
Could have gap fil;led the little notch and made it a hinge for a Panel that'd at least close up the back
But instead since shitty Treads fill it partially and they're weird shape they stick out a bit
The Jet Alt Mode is even worse since it's just a square blob with the bits slapped on for transformation

You get the sense of where he's coming from by how often he refers to individual characters as "they", but desu I can overlook it for the most part because he's one of the very few reviewers that understands a toy review doesn't need to be like 15 minutes long

TTG is pretty unprofessional but I like his lightheartedness and tendency to review niche exclusives you don't typically hear about
PE has painfully unfunny remarks and talks about 3/4ths the speed of blurr but he's very strongly opinionated which I find refreshing. Being a pretty small channel he's also very in touch with fans and will often read/reply to comments

Just got G2 sideswipe in to replace my Covert Clone. Glad I made the change, he feels good to look at and he handles much tighter than my Covert Clone did. I also actually am happier to have his standard gun than CC's targetmaster (Trenchfoot), it just looks better and allows.me to store all of his accessories on the top of the car as to not obscure excellent paintwork. Also he can pull G2 Laser Prime's (who for some reason doesn't have a G2 autobot insignia, which bothers me) trailer if Prime gets his shit rocked.
