ye this is my issue too, its a bit of a burden, i feel they suddenly push them out for the holidays, but now im being much pickier then buying them all.

Dont worry, there is a fix for that typhlosion. If you heat it up and remove the necksegments you can fill it up with paper so they get more range by getting more reach that way or you can drill the holes bigger for same effect, a friend from the US was gonna show me the paper method back in like february.. ahh i gues now i can finaly ask him for detailed pics.
But basicly the joints lay to deep to get any range, its dumb. But you can definetly fix tyohlosion.
Nice the flames can be removed.

Got Infernape, It's decent, I think it looks at best on quadrupedal posing but it needs it's head to be (Carefuly) pulled up from it's normal range.

Also got Alakazam, Size is nice but it's completely static aside from hip twist, it looks from the mold like the arms could do some articulation but mine are completely glued.

And every Tamashii Effect works wonders with the right angle, sometimes I need to tell myself that I bought a Rock Effect for the dramatic look rather than pick some rocks from somewhere.

WTF is up with the QC. I saw this today, fully sealed. Actually had to double take cos I thought it may have been returned but nope, fully sealed.

Pikachus mouth is printed off to the side and it looks like they have tried to "fix" it with a marker????

Metagross was found by someone on IG, and of course the pic is at an angle like this. That said, call it copium but i'm pretty sure it's right arm (left in the pic) is at a slightly different angle from the other one.

They fucked up just about every single deco hit they could. Pikachu's hat top is missing paint, one black ear tip is misaligned, one half of the face has misaligned cheek and eye, mouth and nose are a mess, stray marks on the arm, body, and tail.
Eevee has no ribbon, inner ear tampos are off, one eye too low.

It does look that way. And both arms seem slightly angled compared to the straight horizontal we've seen in all the pics. The right arm in the pic (his left) still looks wedged though at the bottom. What if it's just his right attacking arm that can move like in the recent 3d image we saw? That might be a weird possibility too.

No action features on these, and you should be ashamed for putting that potential evil into the world. I think they'll all be able to move. By now I think it's pretty clear that the one with the 4 straight arms was an early prototype. If they released it like that it would have just been shameful. If it has those 8 points (plus swivels in there) then that's perfect for Metagross, and I hope future Epics are likewise chosen such that simplistic articulation that they're given is entirely sufficient to making that Pokemon a good figure.

So last week I floated about finding cubchoo (pretty sure I was the first to find it). I went back to the same Walmart this week and they had even more of the Christmas wave out, however one of them caught my eye. Well I went to check the page to see if anyone asked. Someone did....but about the elbows which were already kind of obvious. There is up and down movement at the shoulder but it probably isn't much going up. You can see the pic here the 2 front arms are basically resting on the body where in the box pic they aren't. For upwards, the way the two back legs are posed might be as high up as they'll go.

What if they rotate at a lateral axis to the body? It'd be pretty dumb to do that over hinge and swivels in there, but the angle kind of matches. We really shouldn't have to wonder about articulation like this. I wish we could just trust that they made good decisions.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. But someone on the discord posted that the IG user replied with this. English isn't their first language but that does make it sound like the only joints are mid-leg, or those that we're calling elbows.

Imagine the shoulder pegs in straight into the body, and can swivel on that peg. Because the shoulder has a sculpted angle, it could functionally be slightly angled up or down, and whatever in between.

Yea I think its this, it explains what we're seeing. The pose we saw from the initial pictures was the arms rotated to be parallel to the body so it looks straight horizontal from the front view.

That's one way to do it, I guess its better than being completely stuck at the shoulders as we thought but could be better.

Idk. I understand what you're depicting, but that's the most retarded way they could have done the joint. Literally just do ball and socket. Takes the same amount of parts, and provides way more movement.

But also, the packages are also different too. Initial promo pics have the plastic tray larger and across the entire bottom. So the joints could have also changed between those promo pics and what we actually got. But we just need to see a video review or some good, clear pics of the joints

The effect part of Alakazam changed as well from those promo pics to what we got.
It looked so smooth before but now it looks like they scratched all the edges to oblivion.

I started to buy pokemon when they started to do articulated ones.
Its fun to pose them around...you know...like they having a battle.

But Dragapult is not that posable in games as well..so...yeah i guess.

The Select is alright, but since it always has to be floating on the stand, it's just kind of pointless to have articulation other than the bendy tail, which is nice. Then the only part of the figure which would actually be nice to pose is the head, and they designed some stupid joint where it can only look up and down, and can't rotate side to side at all. Typical Jazwares fucking up articulation stuff.

Which is literally what I said. I've personally purchased several things form Ali and some are bootlegs disguised as official stuff, and other stuff that was less than 1-2 years old at the time of purchase was official.

It's not that Venusaur is 2m dex height. It's that he's extra wide. The width of the figure literally won't fit in any other package.

Plenty of 4.5" figures they've made are just about the same dex height as Venusaur. It all comes down to where they can fit the figure. So like you said, Blastoise would be perfect in the Select box at that correct dex size

In general, they still have scale ranges they follow. The 3" figures are dex height mons from like 2'6"-4'3" and 4.5" figs are mons with dex heights between 4'07"-6'11"

Things like the Gen 1 birds and Gen 2 beasts just seem like the logical mons to make in the Select line. Scale world is probably the cheapest of all the lines to collect if you are focused on getting the most Gen 1 figs tho. Welcome to Pokemon collecting. It's expensive. I guess aside from Scale World, your options are the Tomy/Audley Moncolle but many of those are very expensive, or getting a mix of figures from various companies over the years to have a Figma/Trainer scaled pokemon collection. But again, some figures that are years old will cost you a lot.

As ugly as I think the Mega Bloks stuff is, they definitely make more unique brick pieces than Lego does. And if Lego would have done Pokemon like they've handled Mario with those chunky, ugly electronic figures, then I'm glad Mega has it over anyone else.

I'm kind of starting to come to the opinion that these "4.5 figures" or the "actionmechanic" ones just kind of bring everything down though. (in the pic Pidgeot, Lapras, Magmortar stick out particularly). Pic related, I was at Gamestop the other day to pick something up and I actually saw Alakazam there. something I was excited to see at first because these smaller packs are always hard to pin down without paying 2x on ebay and its Alakazam. But then I just looked at it, and realized that it just seems really Happy Meal-esque and I just couldn't justify paying $10+ or actually displaying it with stuff like Figuarts, the epic figures, or the better Target Selects ( Charizard, Tyranitar, and the legendaries.) I never liked these 4.5" figures at all.

The 4.5 figs have always been super super shitty and a really horrible deal for the $12 they cost now compared to other figures on the toy shelves. Even other Jazwares figures. You can get a 4" fully articulated Fortnite figure for the same price. That's so pathetic. I get the Pokemon license is probably one of the most expensive there is, but the quality of the 4.5" for the price they charge is out of line compared to the Epics, Selects, and 3" figures at their own prices.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Mega's quality. I used to have this big ass space set back in the early 2000s as a kid and it constantly was coming apart because the bricks didn't really stay together like Lego.

These new ones though, I have a few of the Pokeball figures sets and they're really nice and stay together just fine. Its great for Pokemon that don't get a lot of merch like Abra and Combee.

I bought the big NYCC Magikarp set but I haven't assembled it yet.

The timing is screwed up. This is 3-pack Wave 18 and the battle figure wave is Wave 16. The 3-Pack waves have just been coming out faster than the rest. I don't think they planned to have these waves both be released at the same time.

Found Metagross at GameStop today!!! I knew it was too good to be true as soon as I saw it… it was street dated for December 13th. It’s gonna be a long hard wait until then. They also had the Ancient Ruins Environment, Monferno and the Froakie & Gible pack out. I’m assuming those are also street dated. It was too hectic for me to check.

Did you check the shoulders? I assume it's straight swivel going inside the body, right? It would explain the angles we've seen the arms in. Also the angles of the ball joints of the elbows there. If they just did the joints at the elbows with the pin going down into the body it'd have been perfect. It's so easyyyy.

Due to the way it was packaged it was kinda hard to move the legs, but it definitely seems like the shoulders only go back and forth. No other movement. The elbow placement is also really strange. That surprised me. Really wish I was able to get it so I’d be able to show it off better. But yeah it sucks to see such an easy to articulate figure get kinda butchered.

There is some movement (looks like on a ball socket maybe?) at the 'shoulder' as seen in a quick IG reel from someone in another country who has it in hand. But the movement looks very minimal and still relatively useless compared to all the other ways they could have done that joint.

Not really sure that's relevant at all. 6" super heroes, military and animated figures have all had way more joints for the same price for years.

I still think that many of the joints on these are made badly. Mewtwo's legs are awful. Wrists too. They are making all these joints way more limited in movement than they had to be by making stupid design choices.

I'd also add that it depends on what you prioritize more. Jazwares one is better scaled with Figma trainers and most their other figures, but doesn't have great articulation. SHF/Darts has much better articulation but is smaller.

Jazwares literally didn't have to have ay more 'budget' to make this a better figure. They just needed to design the damn thing better. The wrist joints should be flipped so that the hinge could move in 360degrees. There needed to be a pivot ankle instead of just a hinge at the lower foot joint to actually make those feet useful.

It looks bad to me. So much bare plastic but somehow brown and beige make it look even more boring than other pokemon. The pre-posed legs are dumb, and the arms look like they won't able to really get in any other position.

I said the exact same. Not clear enough to see if thee shoulders are full hinges, but even if they are, the joints are sunk so far in that they won't get much range if any. That's a shame. Especially when a figure only has like 2 joints, they really need to do them better. These uneven placed feet are bad too. All it'll do it make the figure less stable.

It's likely a socket type of joint in each leg with a stationary ball within the body. Theoretically widening the socket of the arms after they're popped off may give it slightly more range, but this is still a horrible way to articulate that part of the legs.

Those stopgaps can't be there for design reasons. While I agree that the joints are designed quite incompetently, even if they didn't have those little stops, but they have to be there for some reason we don't know of. There's a difference between cutting in a joint wrong and intentionally adding a chunk of plastic into the joint that blocks movement.

Do you mean to not allow things like hyperextending an elbow? It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but then some 3" especially can twist their limbs fully all around. Though I do recall at least one 3" that had a gap in there. If such a thing is the case, then there are sensible ways to limit articulation as opposed to literally being blocked and designed badly.

No, some older 3" figures have had it too. I remember taking the head off Sirfetch'd and there were sculpted nubs in there that prevented the head from rotating more than 90degrees in either direction. I can't see how TPCi would make them prevent limbs from hyperextending or something when other figures have heads than spin all the way around and limbs that can be hyperextended or flipped backwards.

Something weird I kinda noticed with Garchomp only after the Select figure, it doesn't raise its arms in the game animations. Like there's the picnic eating animation and they way it slashes forward in battle, it basically never does anything that would require the shoulder rotation. I have to wonder if it was bad figure design of if that was something they took into account.

That doesn't make sense because most 3" figures can twist their head completely around like the exorcist, most 6" can flip limbs 180 degrees and bend their elbows the opposite direction, etc. So why only intentionally restrict a small number of joints on certain figures?

Good design and doing articulation correctly doesn't require budget. Just the right people with the knowledge. Most of the recent Selects have the joints, they just aren't done well, aren't placed as good as they could be, with enough range, or the right type of joint selected.

The point still stands though Charizard's tail has alot more to it than Garchomp's. They had the blueprint to make a good functioning tail but they ended up going with less parts. Same with the no shoulder rotation on garchomp. I'm only comparing these 2 because of their very similar body shape, Charizard even has a pair of wings on top.

There's a whole team and a series of people who works on each figure throughout the process. Art directors and managers oversee them too. So all these decisions don't solely fall on the one guy actually sculpting the figure. Everyone else in the process can and should give input, and the person art directing should make the right calls in terms of types of joints, placement, etc. So the blame still falls on way more than one person.

I just checked Target, Ebay and Amazon. Tried to nab every 6 inch figures other than Charizard or Mewtwo because I have the D-arts. Managed to get Tyranitar, Samurott, Raikou, and Suicune. Dragapult is half a year old, so you may have missed it, but Garchomp should be coming soon. The 6 inch select line is generally easy enough to find, but all the other lines are spotty at best. They do lots of re-released though, so if you can't find something it'll probably be back soon enough.

Most of the Jazwares stuff is very hit or miss. If you're strict about scale, you'll want the Charizard and Mewtwo 6" Selects from Jazwares since those are larger than the D-arts and more in line with their other Selects. The better 6" figures were the earlier ones aside from Greninja. The more recent ones have worse articulation with less range, but they're not too terrible.

In the US, the Selects became Target exclusive from Typhlosion on. Now Target stocks them online and in store for 2-3 months or until they sell out, then never getting them again, Pretty stupid the way they do it honestly. Charizard is being sold at Walmart in the TCG section currently though. Suicune & Tyranitar came out in October, and Mewtwo & Raikou just came out this week so they should be more prominent through the holiday shopping season. No word on the US release of Garchomp yet.

Not any named trainer, but Figma has original character line you can turn into your OC trainer and can easily slot into NPC trainer archetype. Pic related for example as swimmer. Then they have other archetype like Lass (Sukeban Makoto), Clerk (Groom or male Blazer), Beauty (Chiaki dress), etc.
