Batman collectors will always buy anything Batman. I have faith in the line balancing out when the next time Todd releases a line it doesn’t have nostalgic meme value.
Plus it was an easy set to complete for like $90, four figures and you’re done. You aren’t having to wait years for a Steel to finish your Death of Superman team or a Wonder Woman for your Justice League.
Honestly if Todd can keep doing waves like this then it shows he can take more risks on things fans want instead of churning out whatever new cancerous thing has grown out of modern DC. Batman and Robin doing good means the line doesn’t have to rely on the shitty DC flops of the month.
I’m hoping this pushes him to do a Batman Forever wave with metallic paint apps on Robin.

Only part I can't agree with. Omnis are a huge pain in the ass to read, especially newer ones. 1400-1500 pages having become the norm was even more of a mistake. Needing a stand or using a table is the only way to read Omnis, which some people might enjoy, but most readers just have an issue with. Even people I know who own entire collections full of Omnis complain about this

It's simple economics unfortunately and Todd has been saying himself he will keep the price point low as long as possible right at the very start. I don't have a problem paying $30 for a non-import figure, but the value's simply not there for the collector edition figures imo, especially if you have to pay the additional shipping from McFarlane's site. THIS is what a $30 figure should come with, not just a couple of hands and a card stand. The new Superman at least comes with Krypto and Firestorm had a few small effects, though too many of them are nearly barebones. McFarlane would be better off scrapping the card stand and using that plastic for another accessory or two.

The card _stand_ (not the card) and the larger box is the only "justification" for it on the end of the consumer as far as what we are getting--when the figure quality is the same as the average 19.99 figure and many are the same mold as a 19.99 figure.

Also, a 20 to 30 dollar jump is NOT what anyone was expecting from a price increase. That is a 50% price hike. People were expecting 19.99 to 22.99 or something reasonable. This is an outrageous price hike, especially since for example 2 of the figures in wave 3 aren't new sculpts which is what costs the most money. It would make sense if the collector editions were all new sculpts with a lot of paint and an abnormally large amount of accessories (and no card stand). At least then someone could feel they were getting their money's worth. As it is, you're basically just paying Todd back for the fact that shipping container prices went from 3000 to 30000 in 2020 which was not the customer's fault.

Gaming figures are 22.99 and have been for awhile now (yes it is weird but others here have confirmed that as well with the Brainiac and Superman and gaming Riddler). Some outlets were selling regular figures at the start of 2023 for 22.99 (amazon) but Todd's store still had them for 19.99, indicating the MSRP was still 19.99. Dread Lantern was put up for 19.99 on amazon a few days ago. Aquaman movie figs were also put up at 19.99. So regular figure prices have actually not (yet) changed.

The difference is Todd has started making LESS regular figure waves compared to past years, and has begun phasing in this collector edition stuff which is likely intended to eventually replace regular comic figures if you people fall for it and buy them. So you shouldn't be buying them. Force Todd to admit he is raising the prices and do it the normal way--through small incremental increases--rather than trying to hide behind a bigger box and a card stand and the name "collector edition" and jacking up the price 50%.

Secondly, Hasbro HAS done things more logically from a consumer perspective, even if customers were angry about it and didn't like it. They raised the base figure incrementally from 19.99 to 22.99 and then 24.99. That is what people expect. Not creating a new subline, enlarging a box, slapping a marketing subline title on it and adding a card stand and going from 20 to 30 for the same quality figure. That is an attempt at underhanded and deceptive justification for a ridiculous 50% price increase.

I definitely know multiple people in my friend group who would get figures of the NGE, One Piece, and Dragonball chicks. Nevertheless, if you compare how many female Japanese characters get sold and how many male figures are sold, there is zero way to not come to the conclusion that the male figures get sold way more often. Just look at SHF, how many male characters are announced for DBZ and One Piece and how many female ones are announced on average? It's not even close

Even though I prefer the New 52 figure to the Infinite Crisis one, I get what you mean. I think it was because of them making the transition to be more action figure like rather than statues with minimal articulation. They started casting the plastic in the flesh tone rather than painting it, especially with a lot of the women, I guess because they showed more skin. This probably saved them money while also cutting down on paint related QC issues. Some of the early DC Direct figures also just hold up really well aesthetically like the 2007 Dodson Wonder Woman, which I don't think they ever topped.

And your ignorance and desire for more plastic are exactly why they will succeed in this collector edition scheme.

It's not worth it because of engineering, not because of a lack of plastic. A domestic with the same shitty articulation of most domestics. Same shitty heavily ratcheted ankles, same non-existent ab crunch, hell this one doesn't even look like it has torso articulation besides a ball joint at the waist which probably gets almost nothing for range.

Same horrible method of articulating the joints where they just cut into the sculpt without adjusting and trimming the sculpt down so it looks correct; typical of overworked sculptors who aren't coordinating with the designers and just phone in their work and move on to the next figure in their queue.

Those bicep cuts look suspicious, like they're going to look ugly as fuck when turned because half the sculpt will be on the shoulder and the other half on the bicep. And we already know the knees are ugly.

This is not a 30 dollar figure no matter how much plastic comes with it. The engineering and care is not there.

If people acted like me, Hasbro and McFarlane would already be broke. The only McFarlane figure I have is the Year 2 Batman. The only Hasbro figures I bought are the main X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and War Machine

I agree with you regarding the articulation, it's dogshit for the most part which is why I hope Mullet Superman will have some decent articulation

Say what you want but accessories do matter to toy collectors. Do you think SHF etc. only have a higher price point due to their superior articulation or sculpts? The accessories are always or should always be part of the mix. Of course, nobody will disagree that a properly articulated figure should be the base of every release

$25 for some 5" figure that had less articulation than a Marvel Legend that cost $8 was insane back then. Figma and Figuart prices weren't much better when they got started.

If Icons had released a proper MM and Hawkgirl, I wouldn't have even bothered but I'm a huge fan of TAS so I was never able to finish my TAS team. Instead, all I have is Bats, Superman, WW, Hal GL, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg. Granted, all of them have great accessories but the articulation wasn't that great on the Icons, even worse than McFarlane. Also, have you ever seen the heads on those figures (the single figures, not the ones from the JL pack)?

If I think something is worth the price they're charging then I'll pay it. I won't try to say any of these price hikes over the past year or two are anything I want, but if the product is good enough for me, then I'll pay for it. Stay ass mad about it.
