I like that he inherits all of Impactor's 5mm ports, so you can put his big tesla coil cannon wherever you want. My preferred choice is on the middle of his back sticking straight up, as if it was a lightning rod to power him.

I don't understand why we don't have a seascorponok yet. it's a total no-brainer transformer, the two big paddles become the legs, the front claws flip over his shoulders, the smaller legs form a nice ribcage, and the arms form out of the tail, with one of them being long as shit and having a stinger at the end. or alternatively, two symmetrical sides of the abdominal area form arms while the claws form extra arms, so he can have four arms! and the remaining bit of the tail can become a handheld weapon. a lance or something.

Not sure which you're referring to, sorry; honestly since I'm so new to giving GI Joe a shot, I haven't bothered with most of it. All I know is that there are a couple animations from the 2000s/early2010s that people indeed like, but have issues? Idk, sorry. I saw the opening to the 80s show (The MASS Device) which fans say is the best the show got, and yeah it was quaint, but I don't think I'd watch a whole series that was like that.
For reference, I was a Bay/Animated kid growing up, and the most I was exposed to Joe then were those youtube abridgings of the 80s PSAs lol, and watching the first Live Action film because I thought it was Mission Impossible hahaha. Growing up I just thought the franchise was lame, wasn't until I started delving into the TF comics recently that I heard "oh, the ARAH comics are considered definitive by the Joe fans" and gave them a shot, and yeah, they're good fun so far. Barely made a dent in the 300+ (and still growing) issue count yet tho, lol.

FOC Sideswipe is as bad as I remember it. He shares the same mold as Jazz but the joints and transformation are floppy due to mold wear. At least I have clear paint and whatever to tighten everything now.

I honestly wouldn't know (and I have no idea who 'RD' or 'AJ' are, either5, but we'll leave it at that). Anon wanted a female tomboy pony transformer, and that one was repainted from a male/boyish mold and intended to be a female pony. Had it actually made it to production, he could have projected whatever personality onto it he wanted, as I highly doubt she would have shown up in any official Transformers media and thus wouldn't have a 'canon' personality.
That aside, I can vouch for the mold itself - I own Battle Unicorn and Magna Stampede, and they're simple but fun molds; Battle unicorn in particular is supposed to be a badass despite being a unicorn, given his bio states he has teleportation powers like Skywarp (but is actually competent with them), can shoot lasers or levitate things from his horn in Beast Mode, can cleave almost anything in two with his axe in Robot Mode (and shoot electric shockwaves from it for range capabilities), and he's got some kind of stealth technology built into him that lets him completely avoid detection and muffles his footsteps in Beast Mode. Magna Stampede has no real info tied to him (that I know of) other than the fact that he used to guard the residences of high-ranking Cybertronian officials and that he's supposedly descended from Pyra Magna.

If I was ih charge of some new show or whatever I'd make Scourge a Fire Convoy repaint for pottery. I'd also love to see RotB Scourge in RiD Scourge colors but movie toys rarely get fun repaints anymore.

Yeah, Straxus got cancelled, we knew this for a while. He was supposed to be a Wave 1 Leader in Evolution and got replaced with a Dragon Megatron repack.

My MB Megs came in! Hes used- but def8nitely wss well cared for before I got him. He is pretty stiff and it feels like he was maybe transformed once, then posed on a shelf. Nabbed him for $35 so feeling pretty good about him. He has the gimmicks of the older lines (spring loading and battlemask), but he feels pretty modern still.

Think anon's trying to say yeah the Tarn mold is good, but that's cuz it's the Tarn mold lawl; for what the Legacy Bludgeon is, it deffo works, but as a representation of IDW2 Bludgeon [[[in specific]]], it needs a fair bit more retooling than just the headswap it got.
Personally I'd love for a new Straxus, but desu I don't really see him on the Legacy Galvatron body - the cybertronian tank turret works, but the shapes of their bodies and their turret mode too are too different imo. Would look weird.

This is just shit taste. Good (Read: GOOD) silhouette work does wonders for character design and drastically enhances cartoony styles. It's not necessary, but it has been proven to work extremely well.

I think you could, but in my mind that exascerbates issues with "the transformation is just standing" by giving it essentially an 'inbetween frame' blurring it even worse.
better would be just total humanoid and total wolf modes and let the wolf stand up. but again that doesn't really evoke 'wolfman'
so realistically it will probably just be a vehicle with a wolfman altmode. sigh.

This guy Skydive is actually pretty damn cool.
I guess I don't love the way that even in robot mode, his thighs are at tummy level, a very beast thing. I guess the idea is now his ankles are his new robot knees, but if so, those are diiinky lil robot mode legs. and the new 'lower abdomen' needs to peg together more. still, as BM 'technorganics' go, could be a lot worse.

Maybe not the best, but better than nothing. The actual best option is to poke around and find people who made 3D printed adapters and who are willing to sell some to you (or to make them yourself, if you have a 3D printer). But if not, Lego bits are what you have to work with.

Well yeah, that's why I went for a 3D printed option. Kinda sucks the one I made is weak and got dislodged onto one of my Minicons though I'm not too fussed since I'm getting the Takara version soon anyways. I did eventually find a file that is much stronger and works flawlessly without breaking, but you'd be surprised how some people think the LEGO technic pin is somehow the better solution.

The pipe cutter produces very clean cuts with some burring on the inner edge, so you don't need to file it smooth or flat. The blade profile also produces a natural chamfer that helps plugging in those handles.

If you want to cut your own, the depth of the Minicon ports are 4mm and most 5mm ports on recent toys are around 5mm, so I made these handles 8mm long.

Though, and feel free to call me retarded, but I really don't feel like they'll end up making that into a wheeljack. I feel it was more meant to be SG sideswipe, which I know sounds absolutely retarded considering he was originally a repaint, but... it's still like 70% kingdom sideswipe. It would make a TERRIBLE wheeljack. The proportions are all off and remolded chest and doors don't even flow very well into the angular countach body, that shit is still very much sideswipe.

My Skydive is still going strong even though he's over 20 years old (ignore the rubber band in the pic - that was there to hold him posed with his neck extended, a trick I use for a bunch of my other toys with similar gimmicks during photography). Like with every toy, minute differences in the actual plastic used, the environment, and how often the toy is handled all play into the tolerances.
Also, yeah, check on your Snarl - the original release is known for suffering from GPS and dissolving, which is why I specifically went for the Universe version of him, who supposedly doesn't suffer from the same issue.

Well, you're looking at it from the perspective of a TF fan, not the JP fans the crossover is meant to appeal to. How many people over in the JP/dino general on this board do you think would pick the 'human' over the dinosaur? How many people do you think sat through those movies for the 'rich world building', 'suspenseful plot's or 'rich character interactions'? The BeastDrive kits aren't really partsformers since the parts don't need to be removed as part of the transformation, but they are a bare skeleton with armour parts that you can mix and match if you have more than one of the same archetype.
I do agree that they could be a bit more complex though, since they mostly unpeg and unfold rather than having any complex maneuvers.
I also wish they had tampos rather than owner applied transfers though, I still haven't drummed up enough courage to attempt that on mine.

Waterslide Decals, yeah. Some of them are quite thin, so if I ever attempt them I'll probably go overboard and use MicroSol/MicroSet that some Warhammer 40k folks use.
I ended up buying the limited edition set that also came with a full set of transparent parts, so sometime after I took that photo I decided on swapping in some of those to give it a bit of visual flair.

mods are asleep so I'll post this hotglue fix for BBM Ironhide and Ratchet's loose hips. Hotglue just barely sticks to ABS and doesn't really stick to Nylon, so all you need do is to jam that hot goo into their crotch cavities then immediately press the mushroom pegs onto the glue while it's still hot. The excess can be easily pulled or scraped off. The remaining glue will form a rubbery bushing around the mushroom pegs generating a lot of friction.

Also tried doing it to the waist swivel but the geometry makes it hard to do.

My issue with audio books is 1. I read a hell of a lot faster than I can listen, even if I speed up the audio and 2. My memory sucks or something because when there's a lot of dialogue I get totally lost as to who's talking unless the narrator is good at doing different voices for the characters.

A good narrator differentiates between characters with alternate voices, and some books get a whole cast to do different parts which is nice and closer to a radio drama or something. For myself I've found it nice to do something mindless while listening, like taking a bike ride or cleaning something tedious, anything that takes up a few hours but doesn't take up much mindspace.

Again, all the parts normally susceptible to yellowing on that megs mold are cast in black. And the white is more of a cream color to begin with, so maybe you're mistaking it for discoloration

i'd mix a little red paint into the blue to make it that slightly purplish look from the show..
but the tricky part is that I'd want it to be desaturated, and I don't have... clear black? clear gray? not sure how you'd desaturate clear paint.
i could mix a tiny bit of silver into it to give it the slight metallic look from the show, but I feel like the pearlescence of the white will accomplish that, and I'm not sure I can trust mixing those two kinds of paint.

Desaturating paint is usually a matter of using the opposite colour on the colour wheel, so theoretically you'd need to add a touch of orange.
Normally I'd offer to test that theory, but I don't think I actually have either clear blue or clear red in my acrylic inks. I've got clear yellows, oranges and greens, but I'm not sure if I've got anything else.
I'll dredge up my mothballed paint collection in a few hours after work and report back if you'd like?

Tamiya's alcohol acrylics are a good, common choice since their clears are really actually clear and they're widely available. I've tried many water based acrylics since that's more my speed, and the two brands I've found that did true clear paints discontinued those lines.
I'd recommend you get an airbrush if you're thinking of using clears though, since they're pretty unforgiving when it comes to inconsistent layer thickness.
If you can get some clear spoons getting some practice in would probably be invaluable.

As an aside, this is going to sound insane, but if you've got a car with a spare tire you can use that as a cheap air source for an airbrush if you want to get into that on the cheap.
When I started I bought a $25 no-name airbrush off ebay and got a $5 airbrush hose to schrader valve connector, which saw me through a few airbrush projects before I went all in on some name brand stuff and compressors.

well now that is smart. but that's why I started on a trash transformer that I've already fucked with a bunch of times. his joints are starting to stiffen from the multiple protective clearcoat sprays. and yeahhh I learned it is quite tough to get it even, the only real way is to go back in later with just alcohol on a brush and smear it around til it evens out.
but like, an airbrush.. there's no way i'd be able to hit something as tiny as eyes with it, right? I'd have to start actually masking, instead of telling myself i'm gonna mask and then not doing it. even though I have a roll of painter's tape right here.

When it comes to small details like eyes I just go hand-brush with whichever brush can achieve a fine point with the paints in use. Airbrushing is more for broad pieces where inconsistency would stick out, like Waspinator's wings.
As for masking, I use tamiya's tape because it's low-tac but I know a few folks who swear by silly putty since it can be shaped as needed.

Sorry for the delay mate, and for how crude the paint mixing test is.
I went through my paint collection, and pulled the closest relevant clear paints. They're all water based acrylics since they're from my warhammer days so they're not fit for customs, but they're close enough to test the colour theory at least.
No mixture of the clear reds and blues I had resulted in any purples, just various shades of unappealing blue-black.
When testing the violet ink, the closest I got to desaturation is by mixing it with a pure orange. Using any of the Yellow ink resulted in an unpleasant redness to the result, and any of the Lemon resulted in an unpleasant brown tone.

I love how everyone says this and then you go looking for screws and the sizes and head type swing wildly and almost no fucking place in america keeps them stocked for what you may or may not need. Eh I don't know, I have little attachment to that design, but maybe eventually. But my jext Megs is probably going to ne PF '07 Megs, followed up maybe by one of the BW Megatrons or if I' feeling foolish an MP G1 Megatron. Or SS86 if he ever happens and isnt irredeemably bad (aka just a fucking earthrise retool)

I do love that design, but I'm not enticed by any of the figures sporting it. And I already have the Siege mold, which is the my least likdd of my Megs/Galvs. I was going to sell himbut then figured ehhh why not keep him since I have all these others.

That is the basis of a very good idea there. With some retooling on the nosecone (mayhe a double fork or trident?), tailfin, wings- and then the transformation keeping said wings in more of a center position (as seen in some Jbiaxis figure sample pics) and I think you'd have a pretty cool Fallen.

Yeah but I didn’t pick farm for that main reason cus he’s too slender. Plus I figured making his alt mode an cybertronian jet mode was okay becuase he had it in the movies and the titans return series, so it’s basically that jet mode plus the dreamwave robot mode. Armada Megs could actually work though.

funny, i had the same issue with regular acrylics, red and blue seemed to make an okay purple at first but then they kept blackening over time
waspinator's eyes just need to be a kind of pale indigo though so I think this would still do the trick. I mean a blue-black is kind of exactly right. it's nice and desaturated. but I should consider investing in clear violet, if it's gonna be as blue as your violet.

I guess he looks kinda cool but the only thing that screams Straxus is the pickaxe. Probably for the best they decided against it, you wanna do the faithful update first before you start doing the crazy alternate stuff especially when Jhiaxus and Tarn and other dudes have gotten insanely faithful figures

This Megatron was the bane of my younger self. I get the transformation now, but back then I rarely touched him because it felt like plastic yoga to get him to sandwich in between his gun-wings. Still has that nice click to his trigger after all this time.
