Maybe the fans of the franchise just casually buy the games but they are not devoted enough to buy as much merch as others, just like MK never had as many competitive players as other games despide selling the most game units.

Millions of people love Mario and buy the games, but the toys are hard to move.

The Mario movie was the #1 movie of 2023 and yet stock of the movie toys just kinda stick around and barely got past Wave 2

Lego Mario sells like fucking hot cakes, you are completely wrong. Mario sells a ton of toys, but they're toys for children. I'm sure the s0ibois who collect Mario merch also buy those kids' toys. I wanted to, but at retail price. The lowest price I could find her for in Europe was from the German Jada distributor at €40 shipped, and I don't believe it's worth that much. I really like the Storm's face even if she's too large for 1/12. If someone made a figure with Storm's face, Jada's proportions and good paint and articulation I'd buy it in an instant.
