I'm very pleased by the news regarding O-ring however. It's what I wanted since Super7 got involved in the line. They're the best home for such a form factor. They're not just going to do straight re-releases of outdated sculpts; it'll be brand new figures of classic characters. So female characters will no longer have giant manish bobble heads, in the cases of Covergirl, Scarlett, or Zarana. We'll also finally get Sunbow accurate Cobra Troopers and obscure army builders that never got made before, and characters who never appeared in the line, like Pythona.

Another positive is that these will be sold at retail, which even Hasbro wasn't doing for O-ring, and the price point will be better than Hasbro's, since these will be priced the same as Re-Action.

I've seen many make this claim. I disagree. You need a new o-ring line to buy the Mothership? When it's already backwards compatible and comes with o-ring exclusives? You must have an announcement that they can make a new o-ring line with Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander in every wave to plunk down $650+ for a Mothership? The opportunity to buy more shit is not the compelling reason you think it is for the 5000 people needed to fund this. Most backers are getting it for their layout / collection. And the announcement didn't gain a single backer yesterday.

It could easily fail but most of these backer projects get most of their funding in the last couple days unless you can army build with them. The Skystriker did comparable to this and everyone was sure it was doa, then the last day it cleared all but it's last goal.

For sure, because there's lots of new collectors who simply are not invested in O-ring, and plenty of older collectors who have gotten out of it. It's very important that the brand be re-freshed first with essential characters, so people can have a reason to make the effort to buy into old scale.

Hasbro's attempt failed so I don't think they actually do. Same with the Star Wars ) Indiana Jones Retro Collection always ending up on deep clearance along with the ReAction figures. While I wouldn't say they're "better toys", I do see the appeal and charm in them. I had a lot of the original O-Ring stuff and G.I. Joe was my favorite action figure line as a kid. But even then I could see their shortcomings and wished they could be improved.

The ME sculpts, while taking a bit to really ramp up, were that improvement....to me anyway. But not everyone likes what I like and I don't like what others like so I get it. I'm glad O-Ring guys will be able to get their nostalgia fix, so I'm hoping they turn out good for those who want em.

Me, personally, I wanna see the ME stuff come back. Especially with the resurgence of 1:18 military stuff the past few years, I would love to be able to buy new Joes and Vehicles to mix with my Acid Rain, Joytoy and MTF stuff.

Eh, they were most likely planned to have short initial runs to test the waters. Kinda like how ME 25th stuff and even the original Classified line weren't expected to blow up like they did, they probably threw some basic feeler releases out to gauge just how much of an O-Ring market is out there. Apparently it must exists, but it's not big enough for Hasbro to take the risk on it themselves. So giving it to S7 is probably a great move that should really please everyone.

....or at least it will if Hasbro actually brings back it's ME build line.

I think the blue version of the Snow Cat was called the Basilisk and only came out in the 50th line. There was a TIger Cat repaint for the Tiger Force, so it already has at least that to be repainted into.

Personally, despite ended up owning it multiple times, I was never super happy with the Snow Cat. It was always such a large vehicle yet could only crew two in the cab and then that's it. I wish it could fit more in that big body but that damn missile launcher takes up way too much space.

The updated looks were really good, paying homage to the originals while still looking cool.

But GI Joe is a franchise almost entirely supported by autism, so change will never be welcome. The part of the fanbase that spends the most money wants figures that look like they remember them doing in the 80s, but in a scale where they don't have to remember that they have larger, grown up hands now.

Some tips I learned today:
Hasbro customer service told me "we just recorded you saying that, so we have no choice now" when I told them I noticed the box looks like it might have been re-taped. And they tried to push me off to Walmart instead of helping me.

So if you call them for a replacement figure you might not want to mention any damage to the box.

(to be fair, the supervisor was quick to end my nightmare and offered to send me the correct figure. Yo Joe?)

Is the lesson to not be so excited about finding a figure in a store, that you double/triple check the box taping?

I won't man-splain the whole windowless box argument, but ugh it feels bad being a victim

Most of the ones that have failed, it was pretty obvious they were going to fail because it wasn't worth it, like the Rancor, the $500 dindu Nu-Star Wars lightsaber, the Ghostrider car, etc.

Most people tend to forget that its like, the first 2-3 days and then the last day that have the most significant pull.

There are some that are pretty obviously going to make it, though. Ones like the HISS and the Sentinel, that are obvious army-builder bait, and the HISS is possibly the most iconic, recognizable vehicle out of all of GI Joe, and maybe one of the most recognizable pop culture vehicles of the 80's altogether.

I'm still super salty about the Ghostrider car, everything was a shit show on that. The car's Rider Robbie was separated into two figures, the goals had nothing to do with Robbie or even Ghostrider in general, most of the GR fan base wanted a Johnny figure, a Danny figure, or a Ghostrider villain to go with it. On top of that, they kind of threw it in our faces the characters they did put up would be just tossed out if they didn't get made the haslab way. So Hasblo let down Spiderman/Doctor Strange fans with Mephisto, Xmen fans with the Goblin Queen, whoever liked Damien, and Ghostrider fans.

Wish I picked up a Galactus, but I'm lucky enough to have gotten the sentinel, I missed out on the HISS tank. But I was super poor, now I'm making more than enough to buy one secondary market now and not sweat it. I made sure to get a single Dragonfly. As long as the Joe team keeps throwing out banger haslab I'll get them.

My best guess is something iconic, as they want to make haslabs that will actually sell. I doubt it'll be Dreadnoks for two reasons: Dreadnoks aren't quite as popular as Cobra or Joes, and pretty much all their vehicles are smaller sized, so wouldn't require a haslab to justify it, they'd just release it like the VAMP. The exception being the Thunder Machine of course.

That being said there are a LOT of options. MOBAT, Water Mocassin, Snowcat. Heck, the last two were so successful they might even do something bigger like a Rattler or Killer Whale.

That's pretty much what I've done. I have a good squad of Cobra troopers, BATS and Vipers and then the big names I wanted for Cobra and Joes. Grabbed the Flight Pod and will get the VAMP but outside of that I'm pretty much good figure wise unless they really interest me. The Hiya figures are starting to catch my eye after getting Snake Eyes so I think I'm going to start going for those over more Classifieds since I'm more into 4" anyway.

And while it hasn't happened yet, if there was ever a HasLab to be given a second run, the HISS tank is pretty much the one they would start with since it's made for buying multiples so you could get lucky in that aspect.

I honestly *hate* the plastic trays. They're annoying to get the figures out of, they always warp the weapons, they make tossing out the packaging more frustrating then it really should be and it's just annoying to handle. I could see adding back the plastic window to calm people's complaints, but they didn't need to change the internals of the packaging as that was already perfect.

I bought all this crap online so the windowless box didn't matter to me at all. But I loved the simple cardboard character tray with two easily removed paper strings holding the figure in place. Especially the ones that had the character art inside. And I *loved* the little cardboard footlockers, it was a great extra freebie accessory that they didn't need to detail up to look like a cargo crate, but they did it anyway and that was awesome. I'm honestly sad to see those go, as it made opening joes a far more pleasant experience then most other toylines.

We've already seen official renders of the SMS which was announced in a pulse stream for a mass release which was originally a sears exclusive sold with a red HISS tank. This was a wink and a nod that they're probably mass releasing a red version of the HISS. The red HISS is coming rather you like it or not. They wouldn't announce a piece of towed cobra artillery for mass market without a cobra vehicle available for mass market that can tow it.

I wish they would have done a hybrid package of mostly cardboard with the same internals and then add a window that takes up less than half of the space to just let you see the figure inside. It would address the issue of swaps while also making it much nicer to open the packages and get rid of them. Because I agree with you that trays are annoying. Especially for me when I usually open my toys at night after my wife and kid are in bed and I have to be quiet, which is damn near impossible to do with those things. They also take up too much room in my recycling bin, where as the cardboard I could completely flatten down.

That's literally me right now. My kid's room is right next to my toyroom and while I doubt it would actually wake her, it's still super annoyingly loud to mess with those trays. The absolute worst was the MotU Masterverse stuff, those trays are massive and ridiculous and they use so many of those annoying plastic straps that leave bits all over the place. Oh I have the non-retro version of Stormshadow, he's pretty fantastic. I generally avoided the Retro stuff because I usually had the original Classified release and felt the Retro versions didn't offer any real improvements. I actually prefer when the figures get new gear and modern updates (i.e. I like Gung Ho's tech-vest, his guns are crap though) so Retro never really appealed to me.

But both Duke and Scarlet look fantastic and are certainly upgrades to their original figures. Though that first Scarlet head is still one of the cutest face sculpts I've seen on a toy.

The weapons are more warped now since they went to the plastic free packaging than they were when they were using the plastic packages. Makes me feel like you guys don't actually buy these figures if you haven't noticed that....

I'd also wager that they don't do the card backs because the bigass cards take up a lot more room than the boxes. The cards are fine for 3.75" figures, but they're cumbersome with the 6" figures. Its also a lot easier to use the single blister when the accessories were all on a sprue and needed to be cut off or whatever. Not so much when you have tiny individual knives, handguns, flashlights, magazines/clips, silencers, and numerous other tiny accessories that need to be held in place.

Its not just the noise of the trays but the older figures had plastic boxes too so you end up with a pile of plastic trays. The widowless boxes had a nice flair to them, portrait figure holder and foot locker with neat wrapping paper. But yeah, if you live in a small place opening up any toy now makes a racket.

All that's coming out for January & February is Mutt & Junkyard and the 3 Night Force drops depending on where your getting them from. There's nothing slated for release for March. So you got a couple of months with very little releases until things get crazy again in April and May. In a month people will be complaining that things are too slow and the line is dead.

I hate wokeness just as much as the next guy, but I never got any of that from any of the Joe stuff...some of it was wildly inconsistent because it was so overly styled, especially some of the art like Zarana's, Spirit's, and Covergirl's, but I never got "woke" from any of that.

This thing is fantastic. My sole gripe is that there are no footpegs on the rear of the tank; yea, you can just have figures hold onto that bar, but still would have liked a footpeg for more options. Otherwise, simply a superb vehicle, everything from the build quality to the light-up features are excellent. I really dig how the interior light of the troop compartment automatically turns on when you open up the rear ramp.

The re-designed ones for later lines like Pursuit of Cobra and Retaliation, the tanks were seemingly a bit bigger, but they don't look like the classic HISS tanks at all, they don't even have room for a figure to man the turret only the cockpit, and the bulk of the back is pretty much gone, and they even give it the illusion of being even bigger, since the whole body can be raised up over the tread part.

It's simply not worth the storage space for the amount of money you make from it. I guarantee that there is a bigger supply than there is demand for that thing on the secondary market. Boil water for 2.5mins, dunk for a minute, drain and attach. Hair dryer doesn't get it hot enough. Same with any part that gives you issue with the hair dryer, just needs a hotter source

Way to contradict yourself. You openly state its a hard sell because if its size, then say it should have been sold at retailers? Its a lot of real estate to dedicate to that one item. If Joe Nobody trying to hock 10 of them on eBay out of his garage is having a hard time selling them, than a retailer with thousands upon thousands of items in its stockrooms and on shelves probably isn't going to dedicate much space to it either. At best, it'd be something that they put two of on an endcap once and then they never get any more.

The price hasn't really dropped, and they're still selling on the low end at about $550. It really kind of depends on whether or not its even WORTH selling at that much, because once all is said and done, those people are maybe making like, $100-ish on it. Even if you bought like 10 of them, spending three grand to wait a year and a half to hock them for an extra $100 just seems like a waste of time to tie that much money up.

And anyway, the landscape of this line was very different in summer of 2022, and Hasbro probably had no idea how a bigass vehicle for this line was even going to sell. Its clearly why they started with debatably the most popular, most recognizable vehicle from all of GI Joe, just to test the waters. Its probably why we're even getting things like the Vamp and stuff in the first place. Its not too big, but it is still bigger than all the motorcycles and shit we were getting early on.

And lastly, they already hinted awhile back that it is likely they're release a stripped-down HISS as a more standard release later on. It'll probably be a Pulse exclusive, or available at specialty stores, but it won't be another Haslab.

I bought into Classified in 2020, and then ended up selling almost all of the figures at the end of that year because of how frustrating it was to find literally anything, and how the CI figures were exhausting to deal with.

I think I had one or two figures left, and I had Serpent Supreme Cobra Commander on the way from Pulse, so I just kind of waited until he came in, and I ended up really liking him.

Then, CI figures got easier to find, and they started announcing figures like Alley Viper, BATs, the made the Cobra Infantry troopers easier to get. Storm Shadow, Zartan, and Major Bludd ended up looking great, and the figures just got easier and easier to get ahold of, and now I probably have like 200 Classified figures, including all the dupes I've bought of army builders.

This is easily the best domestic line in years.

I should have clarified, by mass retail I meant pulse only like the VAMP and vanilla flight pod. I agree the Hiss would be terrible for physical retail. You also just agreed with me that tying up thousands of dollars for over a year just to make a buck fifty off each is a bad investment. :p Which is why I think putting it as a haslab exclusive is a bad move to test the waters. How many people bought them just to try and sell them versus fans who actually want them? The VAMP still hasn't sold out on pre-orders despite being priced fairly and it looks good. Yet techno vipers sold out on pre-orders in less than a day. Maybe the reason why the VAMP hasn't sold out yet is because there are way more resellers than we think and they're not biting on it.

Got my HISS today and honestly, I'm not nearly as impressed as most seem to be. There's some decisions they made with this thing that are outright bad, the cockpit canopy is incredibly brittle, connects extremely tightly and feels like its going to be an inevitable point of breakage as the clear plastic ages. The seatbelts also feel like they can easily be torn off and should have been more adjustable so you could fit thicker figures in.. Gull wings also refuse to lock into place at all so they're constantly floating on the corners. Overall I still like it because I love the HISS but there's some very amateur mistakes for a company that has been making toy vehicles for 40 years. I'm honestly glad I skipped the dragonfly after getting this and am not sure I'd be willing to back another vehicle after getting it.

I did just get Hawk, Shockwave, Buzzer, and Ripper.
Hawk and Ripper rule. Buzzer...everything everyone said about his glasses is true, and Shockwave's just a big disappointment: thick hands that make holding his little smgs difficult, the bare gingers being painted on, his riot shield being made to be worn on the right arm, but having a cutout to aim a gun ALSO on the right, and my copy has such a very stuck left ankle hinge that I can't get into a position for him to stand well.
