I have sold the vast majority to pay debts I was dumb enough to accrue in my 20s, to some small regret (not enough to keep me up at night) but I have kept my Soundwave and his battered Cassettes, as well as my G2 Sw8ndle who I even bought new weapons for. Hes living good now, better than he has since 2004 maybe.

I only ever had a handful of toys before I started collecting during Earthrise so I don't have a whole lot of nostalgia for the earlier lines, I mostly just pick up the older figures that interest me.

all of em! when beast wars came out, I was past the age of ever losing or breaking anything (though my g2 megatron was broken)
I had a box for them that I kept in the closet, would just get em out once in a while and play.. good times. some of the best.

Bumblebee too. Looking at Classics again, most of the line holds up fairly well. I think the weakest from the mainline are Rodimus and Astrotrain, but I wouldn't call either of them bad toys. 2-pack Optimus and Megatron were flat out bad toys at the time though.

It never was good. Weird torso/leg proportions, a bunch of parts molded in the wrong color, and the trailer is total shit. Siege is the better looking figure, especially in the 35th deco. I didn't think twice about passing on ER Prime.

Just got Legacy Autobot Nightprowler, what an odd little cat figure. Not too bad, liking the articulation in the cat legs. Something I wish Buzzsaw had. The bad news is that the tab that (theoretically) holds the cat head in place in cat mode snapped off. The good news is that said tab was not at all necessary to hold the head there anyways. Having just the tail whip... axe... thing makes Nightprowler feel less armed than most of my Autobots, but hey he or she is agile. I don't know who the fuck Nightprowler is.

Anybody else misses those cheesy bios and stats numbers they use to place behind the packaging? You could buy a character you knew nothing about and still get a good brief idea of who they are.

there's a tab on the back of the upper neck that's the size of mechanical pencil lead. Yours has probably broken already so you didn't notice it.

It doesn't really affect the stability of the figure at all though so it might have been a vestigial remnant of the figure being a different size.

literally yes. Everything in canada has to be printed in french too, and they now use 1 packaging design for other countries instead of having individual localized packaging. Sometimes they do bios now but they're things you have to use a QR code to access online.

yeah there seems to be evidence of some different stuff in the engineering for cheetor and tigatron. the sideflaps on T don't close all the way with the tiger head fully in place, it feels like maybe they were meant to. or that they were just copied from cheetor directly without modification other than scaling up.

It was honestly a nadir in terms of budget and quality, but also had a bunch of pretty cool concepts as fun toys in their own right, which we don't seem to get much anymore. This guy's whole deal was that the truck cab was "Orion Pax" but it could combine with his trailer to be "Optimus Prime". I also thing it was a pretool for the Powermaster Star Convoy mold. WAs that powermasters? I forget.

it makes one think about back when 'small mario' was 'normal mario' and 'big mario' was 'SUPER mario' before they kinda changed that, and made the short form more of a power-down. one could easily imagine an alternate version of transformers where it was the norm for the trailer to be required to be optimus prime.
On top of that, as I understand it, Pax there really just turns into a block that slides inside the rest of the body made up by the trailer, right? so he's kind of like what some anons wanted the new Pretenders to be

This is honestly one of the reasons I loved Titans Return, because I think if you're going to force a gimmick onto every character, the Headmaster one kind of makes sense in relation to the whole concept of vehicle modes. Like if cybertron were a planet full of vaguely human-sized robots who could transform into headmaster units to control transforming vehicle bodies of various size. And it brings back the concept of the pilots to all the original diaclone toys, as well as explaining why a whole planet of vehicles has cockpits in the first place.

I will always be ready to passionately explain why those bios and art were so important to the Transformers experience and why missing out on them hurts it and makes lot of newer toy-only characters less distinctive.
Before the 2000's, Transformers didn't really feel like the toyline had a "main character". Yeah Optimus and Megatron got a lot of toys, but rarely more than 2 a year. In terms of presentation, the big, prominent characters in the cartoon got the same treatment as the minor ones, and the non-show characters.
I'm glad Hasbro still does original box art for characters, bit even that seems less prominent even if they got more elaborate. Making it the alt-mode is kind of dull. Buying TF as a kid was a fun experience looking through the card art that made them come to life, and the tech specs that gave them something unique. this is just a $6 toy, but his art makes him look cool and his tech spec gives him a personality that helps spring imagination for play style.

for carsentrucks yeah I suppose. for beast guys it's kind of rad. You can depict a way nicer looking animal in a painting than a toy, and since they're packaged in robot mode, it gives you a preview of what's gonna happen once you open it.

There's been like 2 or 3 lead changes since Aaron left. The cuts lead to combiner Wars(lots of mold reuse), now with the Takara synergy and Hasbro execs being more willing to play ball with aiming things at collectors we have what a lot of older fans wanted since 2006- mostly toon accurate and classic renditions of characters.
Price wise, raises were inevitable. It's a line that requires constant, entire new molds. If anything I'm amazed Hasbro never tried something in a new line where all chatacters who, say, have a car chest and leg feet use the same "buck"(like Prowl and Jazz sharing a mold with different veneers)

Prime was agressively mishandled. The toys were way after the show aired and the releases didn't mesh with who was actually in the show. Plus it was one of the series that was hit by budget cuts in a noticeable way between First Edition and RiD.

What we do get is engineering-reuse, which on one hand okay, i get, but on the other hand they do it stupidly sometimes. Terrorsaur was one head-and-tail polarity reversal away from being a fine reuse of airazor's transformation scheme, that would put the wings properly upside-down, and let his chest not need to be a fake tail. that's one more part you get to save! Might even be able to work a better neck plate on there..

Prime failing has nothing to do with the quality and entirely to do with the fact that it cost a shitton of money and was on a failing network and Hasbro was wishywashy with the toyline.
RiD's toys might've been worse but they were on a big network AND streaming while the toys were still new, and the toyline was bigger and more kid friendly since Hasbro execs just straight up said they were simplified for kids so they could sell Classics/Generations versions in 10 years.

Prime was a gag dub in Japan so it wasn't really something they were trying to push in the first place, and in general Transformers is deeply unpopular as a brand over there to the point that Transformers aren't even sold at general retail.

Prime bombing (because of the massive cost of the Hub and the TFP show) lead to massive jobcuts in the TF design and HasLab segment of Hasbro. It was pretty much an event even on /toy/ the day they started firing people.

That was what Warden inherited when he took over as Brand Manager during the middle of development for Thrilling 30. That's why you had toys like Windblade and Armada Starscream (unfinished deco) that were rushed to market despite not having the staff to give them another pass. Hasbro put a chainsaw to the staff because of Prime.

Those are voyagers, leader Optimus was a CW Magnus retool, it had extra hollow forearms, no wrist swivels and a flawed leg design, the inner shin kibble always gets in the way so he has an akward stance and no ankle rockers to compensate.

The Takara retool as Ginrai fixed his arms and lack of ankles, but his shin kibble still has issues tabbing into place.

TFPrime is like communism in that no true form of it was ever handled. Hasbro did a random ass line that was just going to be some collector's toys, then tried to also tried to be aligned (so you has stuff like them making their own Ultra Magnus outside the show)
Arms Microns were cool but the main toys suffered for it. Either way wouldn't have saved the show from being locked on a satellite/ special package network, but if Hasbro just committed to doing an Animated style line things would've worked out better. I also wonder if trying to make a whole Legends subline competed too much with the mainline.

In retrospect, Prime Wars was obviously them dealing with increasing budget constraints by trying to offer gimmicks that gave you incentive to collect multiples instead of just picking your favorite characters and ignoring the rest. They weren't all brilliant, but some of them are truly remarkable and timelessly fun toys.

Like, imagine being a kid and getting TR Triggerhappy for your birthday, even if you knew jack shit about the character or Transformers. What a fucking toy. I feel like many modern transformers lack that kind of appeal.

His pre-evergreen Earth design is still one of my favorites for just being a really nice-looking "modern" G1 Prime, similarly to Classics. Apart from the decals being turned into actual sculpted and painted details, this was the biggest reason I pre-ordered the super-overpriced version of Missing Link Convoy. Also, I just love the dark indigo from the G1 toy. I hate how it always gets changed to just plain blue.

Almost everyone in the Marvel comic has had yellow eyes with Prime included, and the same goes for the UT. Pretty sure he's had yellow eyes in later comics too. So he's had yellow eyes tons of times since the G1 toy!

PW came out when my nephew was young and it was a blast buying figures for him. He started with Titans Return and I got him a few and Fort Max for Christmas, and he'd set up cool battlescenes and bases.

Think of them more like Joe x Transformers rather than Transformers x Joe, they're designed to go with that toyline rather than the other collabs designed to fit within Transformers lines.

I'd imagine that's also why they use all of the big name marketable characters questionably fitting in rather than inventing new fitting characters like most collabs do.

I hope they won't go the fake torso route. I always found primes with fake chest windows cheap and stupid. The grill part I can understand because it needs to be a specific size and shape for the robot mode but the windows should be easy as hell and I assume it would be cheaper to just use the actual windows instead of coming up with a fake chest and wasting budget on that instead of fixing actual problems like ER prime's ass wheels. As for the stripe I hope they go with it because the toon truck is rather plane looking.

hm. I imagine there might be issues where... they want to have a consistent skin color across parts of the beast mode, but the dinobots kind of demand silver, and they might not be able to get the nylon (?) joint pieces silver.
In my mind though, they should make the robot parts colored like the g1 dinobots and make the beast modes colored like one of the primary dinobot colors: red, yellow, or maybe black.

part of what might be complicating this is that Grimlock is said to already have reformatted into that black and white raptor
another part might be that we don't have a new stegoformer yet, and we've never had an organic sauropod. not sure how doable it would be, maybe if they cheated and went with a pretty short-necked variety .. in fact apatosaurus would be the most appropriate either way

Where has this been claimed in the last 5 years? We just got a bunch of BW guys over and over again. More than any G1 Preds.
The other thing is that if they do want to do BW guys but robotic..the transmetals are there, cover most of the Season 1 cast, and need to be remade too. Silverbolt and Quickstrike are the only organic later additions and they have mythical beast-like fusions as a boon.
FranklyI always thought the G1 style of beasts is ok but boring, my favorite robot bast design was Cybertron where they were sleek and like real animals in shape but mechanical with some organic touches like fur and feathers.

That was kinda how I started. I had some Transformers as a kid, but I only got into collecting as an adult, and it was right around the time that MP was gearing up. The thing with MPs is that they're amazing when they get it right, but otherwise they are monumental wastes of money.

the heel is its own piece, hinged on a tiny pin you can probably see. The entire foot has front-to-back articulation on the big pin at the ankle, as well as a good amount of side-to-side, as you can tell if you look at the right foot.

It's a suprisingly poseable mold, given some clearance-based limitations. He's very unique, and definitely worth picking up even today.

I don't think the colors need to match as a team, you could go heavily into fantasy with recurring colors and patterns to get the idea without making everyone the same like the Dinobots. I still have the 2008 Universe Starscream, bought it from a Rite Aid in 2008 out of sheer boredom.

It's in terrible condition now, the paint's scuffed and the whites have discolored yellow-gray because it was in a box in the basement for a long time because I didn't start seriously collecting Transformers until 2014, but it wasn't exactly in great condition to begin with, it was always loose and a hassle to pose, and yet I just don't feel there's a better Starscream out there currently to replace it.

Ive been seeing a lot of pushback on TF Prime recently. I always found the show overrated and I guess the general conscious is shifting too. Imo it wasn't nearly as fun and engaging as animated.or beast wars. To think about it, 2010-2017 was a bit of a dark age for this franchise. You had RID2015, those budget cut figures from that shitty FOC generations line, the awful machinima series, and AOE/TLK with both movies and toylines being so bad and subpar that even most bayverse fans end up agreeing that they're awful. Things just felt sterile, cheap and low effort during those times, now I probably know why.

Bumblebee isn't a trainwreck or anything, but you can tell he was designed by a team that wasn't the Transformer one. His first priority is to be a GI Joe vehicle that can fit 1:18 figures, and the rest of the toy goes around that. He has some of the most graceless back kibble you'll ever see, and as cool as his massive off road tires are they get in their own way in robot mode. He's not the worst toy you'll ever get, but you'll definitely go "glad this was on sale" when the weaknesses and strengths collide.
Also: he's going to be bigger than you think he is.

It came out in 2006 and Armada Hoist's head was the closest to Dinobot's in terms of appearance and Funpub didn't want to make a new one (which is good because their heads are terrible). Same thing with Rhinox and Rattrap but those worked way better

Concept art a few years ago showed that McDonalds Manta Ray was going to be Optimus and McDonalds Beetle has Megatron's head. I think there were even more weird animal modes leaked back then. We might have gotten a shitton of different animals for the same characters at one point. And then there were those triple changer concepts snake raptor Dinobot. BW concepts are nuts.

I really enjoyed using my BW toys articulation so I can't say I agree on that. I still love my Thunderclash, Skyquake, Scorch and Rotorstorm, and you don't really need extreme articulation to enjoy toys as a kid (had several Megazords too and those were mostly bricks), but when the toy had it I appreciated it a lot nonetheless.

If anything, not having all that much articulation bothers me less as an adult in some cases, like when I get old japanese transforming robots (G1 reissues, Brave...), because I enjoy the retro appeal and they're mostly just display pieces.

They're not even close anon, all of the European G1 guys had the legs fused or conected together and no knees unless there was a transformation joint there, some of them don't even have working shoulders like Thunderclash or Rotorstorm.

Hell, G1 Prime has better articulation than all of them.

The basic figures were G2 molds, including some that went unused until then, so they had ball joints and decent articulation. But the bigger toys were all recolors of European G1 toys from 1992 that were really bricky.

well..kind of. They came after BW was released but they were meant to be released before, or instead rather. It's also possible BW was intended as a subline of G2 originally, not a whole new line(the mcdonalds tie ins make it seem as such) There were only 4 new vehicle molds- the racecar, the towtruck, and two jets.
Also I know a lot of people love Euro G1/G2 colors but sorry, this is an eyesore to me compared to MW Starscream.

This isn't quite true. This is just MSipher trying to have a weird control of history. He also claimed the brand manager "disappeared off the face of the Earth"(this isn't true. He got poached by Mainframe and started working there and is credited in the BW credits.. Guys name is Anthony Gaud)He hosted a history of Beast Wars panel at a few comic cons last year that had some BW concept art.
It's true that Gaud did mention the team wanting to do more G1 stuff again at Botcon(I think the whole panel is still up on youtube from 96), but these were just plans. They wouldn't make up a whole line just because of a fucking convention panel. They just had a bunch of molds ready to go and sold them to KB toys.

Tow-Line is the only Evo-Fusion toy I have (but I don't know if my yet-unopened Siege Cog counts or not), but I think I honestly hate the gimmick. Having parts slide off as I try to transform him is incredibly annoying, particularly on the back part of his altmode which is just a PAIN. I'm glad he got a new figure (as his was one of the memorable episodes of Car Robots) but I just wish it was one not tied down by a gimmick like this.

As a kid too, it added not only play features but a way to distinguish your repaint characters from the originals. My Buzzsaw always used the more Robot head since Waspinator used the Mutant head as a default in the show. Tickled me that LG Buzzsaw did the same thing. I'm always happy to see figures where the alt-head is used.

I have this bee in my bonnet that i'm going to play musical chairs with heads for some figures (That Premium Finish ones are going to replace), so that mutant tigatron can have a mutant airazor (using Shadow Panther's head) girlfriend, and Shadow Panther can get back to a normal cheetor head painted black, and.. shadow panther.. can have airazor's head? I think that would work okay. question is, will they transform. also, will those heads come off easily and all have the same ball joints.

it's too bad Toy Story never addressed this kind of thing (because anything resembling coolness of toys was totally verboten for whatever reason), aside from Sid's weird customs. I'd love to see like, a character having an identity crisis because a new better version of that character came out, and then the old one getting repainted into a new original person but now.. no backstory

Or, hell, that it were ALL hard plastic. Those rectangular panels on the tail are like peeling on the edges, they aren't flush with the tail at all and the belly panels just don't feel like staying tabbed in reliably or consistently. I shall keep her as dinosaurs are cool, but damn.

I don't love a lot of things about her transformation , those fucking hips snapping together and pulling apart, the side panels on the tail.. but in general I think it's fine, and I enjoy how the backpack folds up.
The springloaded neck panels are the only okay way to do any head articulation on a dinosaur, and I think that works great.
but I think a lot of what she does would not be possible in hard plastic, at least not without breaking.

I dunno man, I think hard plastic in a couple more places would have gone far IMO. Even if panels don't line up, I'd rather those square tail panels be more recessed than jutting out at the edges you know? I do like a lot of the stuff you mentioned, like I'm not saying shes/the mold is the worst thing I've ever handled but I find even handling and transforming my MPM Blackout to be more pleasant.

the issue is that they aren't curved properly. they're concave when they should be convex. part of the flipping-around process messes them up (the way they flip them for the 'correct' transformation is wrong in my book, kinda like how airazor's wings come folded wrong in the box)

He looks better in person than he did in pics and reviews, the yellow is less 'cheap' looking, his transformation is neat and alt mode is awesome.

I have only 2 complaints: Do NOT fully peg his gun into his hand (which he can only use in one hand btw) because it is a BITCH to get out, and he doesn't have any heel tilt to him at all, which is fine, but it'd be nicer if he had it.

Otherwise highly recommend, he's my first Bee since I had G1 Bee, the off-road Camero design really appealed to me.

yeah thankfully I ended up with some extra weapons from using upgrade kits, so I always had a few to throw around, but I'm officially out again. There's a lot of upgrade kit weapons I'd love to buy for fun, but they are not worth 17 dollars for big wolverine claws or an axe head for tigatron's tail or stuff like that. i wish those went on clearance over time.

A nice side effect of getting a second nemesis lio is that I can give both him and regular-lio the full 'maximal blaster' weapon

So far the repaint is going so smoothly, I need to get more paints from this brand. just silky smooth, no paintbrush marks. gorgeous coverage. can't wait to show you guys.

fucking amazing. aside from that silly extra weapon, he is perfectly screen-accurate, and the default version is almost colored perfectly except a few missing apps on the legs. which have nice sculpted outlines so it's easier to fix it yourself.
They even kept that slightly vague spider anatomy that could easily be interpreted as a true tarantula or that one member of the wolf spider family that gets CALLED tarantula.
all that's missing is the prominent web-fingers in back.
>Also Hot Rod comes with a pizza cutter too, supposed to be the "spinning" saw blade from the underwater scene in the 86 movie.
I gathered that from context, i'm sure it's better than tarantulas's.

The TR Deluxes that were Headmasters from the getgo are alright, aside from Wierdwolf/Wolfwire and Mindwipe's self-destructing parts. The TR Blurr mold is okay but the TR release sucks compared to the LG one. TR Topspin and TR Twintwist are just okay while TR Triggerhappy and his retools are great.

POTP's individual Terrorcons are okay but POTP Abominus sucks.

Everything else is terrible.

I'm a headmaster whore, so I still love a good chunk of Titans Returns figures. Yeah, they're obviously cheaper than modern releases (because they literally were like 10 bucks cheaper, on the whole) but they're also very fun to play with. Hardhead, Misfire, Topspin, and Twinferno stand out in my mind. I was a huge fan of the voyager Blitzwing and Octane molds, if not in their original decos.

Asking me to pick out CW or PotP toys that held up is a bit harder. Ultra Magnus is great and a recent favorite. Slash, Beachcomber, Tailgate, and a bunch of the legends class stuff is still solid. Roadtrap and Battleclash are riddled with flaws but are such a unique pair that I think they're still worth owning. Some of the CW combiner parts held up better on their own than the entire combiners, like Scattershot, Rook/Roller, and whatever jet mold they made Darkwing out of. A ton of the CW Legends are still great, like Shockwave, Powerglide, the insecticons, and Blackjack, who will forever be underrated to me, no matter how much praise he gets.

I find the whole concept of the modulators to be super fun, it's just a shame that they require better QC than Hasbro is willing to give us. Every one I've bought had at least a handful of ports/joints that were so loose they'd slip off if you so much as looked at them. It's not like they were total rubbish, but buying a $25 toy and knowing I'm going to have to spend time fixing it right out of the box is annoying.

I just got Slammer and I like him a lot, but he needs tightening BAD. The bits that make his cannon and the tip of the turret are particularly wibbly.

And I find 86 magnus is sort of in the middle. He's BIG, but not as big as jetfire, he has detailed engineering but not as complex as rodimus. I think he's fine.
Magmatron might just be the best mix of both worlds though, we'll have to wait and see

I don't own him, but I'm curious what you think all these compromises are. Most people seem to be pretty satisfied with him. Apart from his crummy leg-to-torso ratio, I think he looks pretty great.

I think the fact that we need a Voyager class figure to be bumped up to ninety fucking dollars for it to not have "compromises out the ass" is an insane notion to me. We're getting into the MP price range at this point. Although I suppose these figures might fill the void left behind by the MP line, ever since they shifted toward being "retarded panel clusterfucks that look like an animation error" for $300 plus tip, there's been an absolute dearth of just plain "really nice Transformers for a collector". The problem is that leaning on cartoon accuracy again is going to limit their appeal. Why can't we ever seem to give designers a good budget unless the MO of the toyline is "ugly cartoon shit with physically impossible transformations"?

Trailer is undersized and stripped down to be as cheap as possible. No Roller included. Bot mode's ass wheels look bad, and could be hidden away with better engineering, as could the leg wheels. Hands molded in gray and painted metallic blue which doesn't match the molded blue parts, and are prone to paint chipping when putting weapons into them. Back of head is molded in gray and painted metallic blue which doesn't match the front of the head. Various other part are molded in the wrong colors and not even painted the correct ones, like the inner shins and biceps.

Ironhide would be super easy to plug a non-broken windshield into. Surprised someone like Nonnef hasn't made one yet bundled with a non-screaming head. Prowl though... not such an easy fix. Honestly, looking at the Rodimus we got more and more, frankly I'm starting to think they were prioritizing his Marvel depiction much more than Sunbow - primarily it's the face sculpt for me, people back then complained

But when looking at Rodimus in the comic, he's got some pretty frequent grimacing expressions in there n stuff, it fits that version of him much better.
Frankly, I think I like Marvel Rodimus the best out of all his incarnations probably, so to me this is actually a huge plus. Even nowadays while they're doing more Marvel and IDW characters, they're still typically prioritizing the 80s cartoon and anime, so getting a figure that actually prioritizes a comic instead, when they easily could not have, makes me appreciate Kingdom Rodimus so much more than I originally would have.

Some said that, most of us complained because it just looks bad, the eyes are stretched and way sunken, you can barely see them and his mouth is too wide with a dropy upper lip kaking him look sad.

Yes, being rodimus is drepesing, but thats not a good expression for a toy without optional face plates.

Perhaps, but honestly while this might come off sounding like a cope, I find that it's pretty much impossible to take a GOOD photo of Rodimus's head. It's really hard to capture how the light actually bounces off his face in real life; I think the upper photo in your collage is closest to how mine looks on my desk, just that the corners of the mouth somehow don't look like they extend that wide in person.

On this note of Kingdom Rodimus's head, I actually experienced a similar thing with SS86 Perceptor. Everyone kept saying "zomg the headsculpt is PERFECT", but almost all the photos I saw made him look like he had this terribly-wide mouth that extended to the corners of his face, but when I got him in person, he actually looks totally normal and it was just the photos' lighting over-emphasizing some super subtle corners in the face's mold.

I paid 110 for him in 2020 and felt guilty about it, but he's probably the most-appreciated bot in my collection. Not that I'd ever sell him; this mold is just timelessly good.

The other crazy-expensive version I want is Fire God Ginrai. Many years back, the owner at my LCS put the comic that featured him into my pull list because he knew I liked Transformers, and it gave me a mighty need for an orange and red crusader of justice. I know some people hate this mold these days, but they're objectively wrong. This is a joyous and stylish chunk of plastic. I'll take a dozen.

What molds do you guys want to see repainted into these characters the most? Old ot new?

Animated Prime or even Legacy Prime to Fire Guts God Ginrei as an homage to DJW's doujins with animated Fire Guts Ginrei.

Fire Convoy to Magna Convoy and Ultra Magnus Delta Convoy to complete it. Especially if he still had that fuck huge sword repainted into the Matrix Sword. Or his super mode armour could be Delta Convoy colored.

While I'm at it Armada Prime for Ultra Magnus and Nemesis because the originals couldn't combine into Super Mode.

Star Convoy into any of these would be amazing. Imagine star Toxitron.

I really dislike Barber's run, but I don't [fully] hold him against it - it started out with promise, but you can tell his editor duties started coming first, and his comic immediately went downhill. Any Prime that isn't stringently G1 accurate. It's why I think Siege was a good option, since it had plenty of its own stylistic choices to make it stand apart from generic Primes.. I wouldn't mind the BB/RotB one getting a blue, orange, or green repaint, either. Anything but the upcoming SS86 one or Earthrise. Or Reactivate. I fucking hate that ugly turd.

Also, it's kinda nuts that even with the near-endless repaints MP-10 has gotten, it never got blue Diaclone Prime, either.

Not because of Kicker, that's for sure. He and Roadbuster (I refuse to call him Ironhide) were easily the highlights of Super Link, I loved their development in the show, and especially Roadbuster slowly growing from a dweeb into a badass over the show's run.
I think Super Link falling behind in Japan might've just been due to the same things Energon failed to grab attention with here; ie the visuals. They were leagues better than Energon that's for sure, but at its core, I think people just couldn't vibe with the 3D models and animation. Galaxy Force (Cybertron) had way less expressive faces, more amateurish 2D elements, and the models' shading blended with the 2D art worse by comparison to Super Link IMO, however ITS 3D models were much more detailed and the character movements were a bit more natural. Plus GF was much flashier and good at hooking young kids, while Super Link focused on its character drama.

Also think the toylines were a big factor; SL/Energon toys kinda shelfwarmed a bit I think? Meanwhile GF/Cybertron toys were fucking amazing, everybody loved them.

Well I don't know about that, Deluxe Class is a maybe for Hot Shot, Inferno, Prowl and Rodimus who are all at the same size and combination is dead simple. Though I think it would be beneficial that they're Voyager class just for the extra budget in the same way SS86 Hot Rod is a Voyager. Guys like Ironhide/Roadbuster, Jetfire and Cliffjumper might have to be Voyager or most probably Leader class which is why you never see them combined with the aforementioned Deluxe Autobots.

Evac most likely Voyager though I can see Scourge being Leader class. Which would be really funny if they did that because it would be a logical size increase between the planet leaders.

I really miss the idea of toys getting repaints or retools into things that just make them look cool. No need to portray any other character, or be accurate to anything; just give 'em a snazzy new paint job and maybe a new accessory and pop it on the pegs. Using "they" to specify a hypothetical person of unknown gender has always been acceptable, and likely so natural that you didn't even notice when someone did it. Aaa check it out, this paint job came out great
it looks really bad in the pictures, but it's great in-hand. I even got perfect pupils and highlights (the one time non-watered-down acrylic paints really shine, letting you do wet-on-wet suspension techniques)

now I just have to decide what the robot mode will look like.. i'm thinking dark metallic blue, but maybe less-dark regular-blue like Powered Convoy

Well, the paint job is a lot sharper than star saber. I don't think I have seen scratched or rubbed paint anywhere. I got plenty of them on the red on star saber' larger jet body.

The joints are tights and some are too tight- the shoulder outward locking mechanism. I don't recommend you lock them back once you free them.

The only issue I have at the moment is for some reasons The chrome wings for the chest is not locked with the bird but you have to attach them to the body (of the bird) using a 5mm hole. They stay well enough but they will come off when you move the arms without adjusting them first. But the chrome is beautiful though.

The boat minicon is fully painted in blue paint while the car one is in plastic white.

The stand for the chair is huge- I still don't care for this.

For articulation, the arms can only do 90 degrees. It looks like a double joint but it is not.
It can kneel but in a slight awkward position a bit like older Gundam HG.

Overall I think people would be happy for their purchase. I certainly am specially I got the thing with a 20% discount with shopee (for some reasons hasbro didn't lock deathsouraxe' page against shopee' in store discount for hasbro official store crazy right!?!)

Finally transformed Nemesis into her robot mode. While I still consider it the weaker mode, it transforms nicer and more solidly than pictures made me think. Those stupid arm flaps will never stop being the big "really, that's where you cut a corner?" to me though. They just needed like ONE different hinge to not suck. Neat light piping at least.

She's cool - one of my favorite Titans. Definitely has an interest transformation, to say the least, and it's nice that she comes with actual weapons unlike Ark. While I do wish they'd stuck to the more gangly proportions of her original concept art, I think she still turned out pretty good.

It's nuts they did such a half-assed job in a line that was supposed to be about on-screen accuracy, and then had the balls to charge an extra ten bucks for it.

Bought these stickers like 2 months ago, finally put them on after worrying for too long if I'd fuck them up. Glad I did because he is popping now. I'm not the bxiggest fan of the light streaks on the windshields but the stickers do make the colors less flat.

Stickers werent super hard to place either which is a relief because some day my LG Laser Prime stickers will arrive.

Eh, I still think it looks like total garbage from the front, too. MP Hot Rod isn't a perfect figure, but it definitely nailed the alt mode. Everything this car mode gets right is everything SS86 gets wrong.

This is an interesting tagline for a Studio Series, which was supposed to be all about accuracy. That's all I'm saying. They charged you 10 bucks more for a deluxe in a toyline focused on accuracy to give you a toy that fucked up being accurate. I'd definitely say that SS86 is my least-favorite Hot Rod alt mode of all time. With the exception of PotP Hot Rod, it's not even close. But at least that figure had the excuse of also being Rodimus Prime.

I think hot rod gets too much flak for being a voyager, desu
He may not be big, but putting him next to most any deluxe and you definitely feel the difference
He's noticeably heftier than most, has considerably better posability than most, has very small details like his visor, hands and flip out bits that deluxes could only dream of, has virtually no hollowness or even distracting amounts of kibble. His transformation is so involved while still managing to stuff in a faux chest I'm honestly surprised they managed to fit it into something so small without it crumbling to bits in their hands.
Modern deluxed would KILL for this kinda quality, getting the SG dual pack really showed me how different they are.

86 is pretty much never accurate anyway, lel, so it doesn't bother me. Faces are usually awful, dinobots have greeble for some reason, ironhide looks too bloated (but these proportions than his actual ones imo) (also a really good small voayger), pretty much only wreck gar is perfect but he's way too big, but it also means his bike mode is big enough to be ridden by other figures so I don't care. Let's not forget they try to pass off cliffjumpER as being anything like his G1 incarnation. This is just how the line is.

size classes are such an ass. I was just looking at rotb SS airazor and I could not tell without comparing to others whether she was deluxe or voyager. she's bigger than the buzzworthy deluxe. I think they should have just bumped that up to a voyager and made the wings and bird head bigger.
they should also stop using size classes, and/or move them further apart and add a new one between core and deluxe.
