Megablocks, mega whatever they go for these days, they're a cheaper option to the new diaclones and the variety allows for crossovers with MOTU, Marvel or custom GI Joes.

on closer inspection, it appears to be two separate sets of treads, touching. but A) that would have the same exact problem trying to make toy joints, and B) you can't have two rotating things touching, they'll move in opposite directions. that's how gears work.

yeah, that's the missile launcher. I don't know what the photographer was doing.

The only issue I have is the weapons are all actually clear plastic painted, which makes the 5mm posts a little thicker. I'm having trouble getting the missile tip off the launcher

Ah I see, it is two sets of treads per leg, but I agree with you, they can't be touching. Maybe one would set on top of the other? Or there'd be more of a gap in some H-tank mode, but then there's still the problem of making them become legs.

Yeah, I thought the mold looked meh when it debuted in Siege, and ultimately it's just okay, but this deco brings the most out of it, imo. I usually don't go for fake chests or the like, but he looks good enough overall that he earns a pass. The toyhax decal set is definitely worth the investment. He feels kinda naked without them, particularly in alt mode. They straddle the line between cheap and charming that helps the whole figure feel a bit more like something that actually could have been released in 1993.

The more I look at him, the more I realize the metallic blue is a big part of what's winning me over. And the toyhax kit is worth it if only for the reflective red visor decal. Yeah, this guy's pretty cool. He just needs some encouragement.

Star Saber from last year was pack just with the shipping box. Not sure why they did this year. Do transfromers people even care about the shipping box?

I know some asshole with Bandai's PB stuff do care about that thoug.

Like I have said previously, no, the arms do not bend more than 90 to 100 degrees.

The top section of the bend is actually where the pegs for the shoulder connect to the rest of the arm, so those don't move.

They seem to address the issue by not forcing the winglets into the package.
The winglets are semi-lose in the package secured by clear plastic trays from the top- on the side next to Tigerbreast.

Where with starsaber they have the plastic ties right on top of the chest. My did have not any bad scratches, but you can still see minor lines here and there, like your usualy mass release figures.
I think people at the top at Hasbro probably had order went out to the factory to take this one "extremely" serious after last year. To be fair coming at less than 30K units around the world, you think having the best QC ever would be the top priority.

Though, the way they design the winglets (connections with 5 mm holes), they don;t stay with tigerbreast too well. Any forward arms movement from Deathsaurus, you have to move the winglets out before any actions. I can't really fault the designer/factory planner here. The idea seems to be minimized any possible damage to the chrome as possible. Have the thing painted/dried than place in the tray and covered > having Vietnamese elder mothers (大媽) assebling the whole thing with drills, pins, and hammers.

I hope when more people get their, they would able to figure something out to secure them better.

Last from me, the minicons and Eaglebreast.

With Eaglebreast, you can really tell that the design of the figure (just the toy itself) is Definitely not on MP level.

Through and through, I am still not sure if thy can't do this figure as a normal release with a leader or even voy size.
Taking out the chair, and all the bell and wistle, the inherent engieering for the main toy is not that complex. And the 2 chest figures are nothing more complex than the current Blaster/Soundwave cassettes.
Star saber because of its russian doll nature I can understand why Commender size has to be choosen, but Deathsourace,
But it wouldn't be right without it being big

Given that Eaglechest can actually flap its wings unlike WFC Laserbeak, I find that difficult to believe.

Also they mistransformed his shins in that pic - he has two 'sticks' that flip out and run through the gold parts to mimic the shin design on the old toy.

Not him, what little I remember reading, G2 Dragstrip was mostly a one an done since they needed wave filler for the speedia line, with Dead End mostly being a wave filler they slotted in at the last minute for the G2 line.

The whole thing feels like a 50/50 situation, they might continue, they might not. If they wanted to do the whole set from the start, they would have released them very close to eachother or in a set.

I use Nemesis as a chained pet for the bishoujo Nemesis statue(the only one of those things I can justify buying, they're usually too weird & far too expensive). Wrapping craft chains on it was kind of a pain in the ass though.

The original's base is worthless without several minicons to plug onto it and the Legacy base is worthless without a weaponizer or several 5mm weapons to plug onto it.
So they're on par, the original just has the advantage of including a minicon to get you started.

It's not a fun transformation or combination, looks off in both robot forms and the entire point of the Armada toyline, Minicons, are completely gutted. I really don't get the point of any of these Armada upgrades when they need to take away why they were designed the way they were, the minicon functionality, they just all feel lacking because of it. Every single one is a disappointing toy compared to the original, like Laser Prime but worse. I think taking inspiration from these old toys and making something new in budget would have been a better call. Something more like Classics. For all four of them released so far, the originals provide a better play experience and largely display just fine.

But because it's missing one accessory that they decide dictates the figure's ascension into godhood, then it's a complete flop and you shouldn't buy it.

Poselet detected, the gimmicks in the old toys fucked up articulation and often gave them huge backpacks, the new toys are for people who like to pose them around to make them look cool, if you're not into that, keep dusting off your old bricks.

You really don't have the original toy to know how meh and almost shit it is. The old toy is a fucking brick and a hollow one at that thanks to the motorised auto transforming gimmick. Optimus by himself can't do anything other than point his arms forwards and back. The base mode is neat but ultimately boring, all the Minicons interactivity amounts to popping out 2 turrets, one on the right leg and the other on the left leg, it ain't even symmetrical. And in Super Mode the Minicon Sparkplug does nothing but rest on Optimus's shoulder, oh and his back is extremely hollow too something that is rectified with the new one. The new Legacy Armada Optimus is just hands down the superior toy, sure would be nice to have Sparkplug as well but he's an overall superior upgraded toy.

Trashmaster arrived today. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the claw, which constantly butts against bicep or the forearm kibble, severely limiting the articulation of the arm or just causing the whole thing to fall off. JFC, this thing sucks. Trashmaster himself is cool, extremely posable due to his ankle articulation. I appreciate that his front wheel chunks can be removed and made into a backpack instead of just hanging awkwardly off his ass.

That's the exact point. Those toys would not have been designed the way they were, from top to bottom, had they not utilized the minicon play pattern. They wouldn't exist. Even if names and faces carried over and it was continuing from Car Robots, the toys would have ended up much more like those than what they are. Keep in mind, the CR Sideswipe in the pipeline is going to suffer very similar issues where the budget can't afford a toy of the same quality as the original, so you can't win there either. Every CR 'upgrade' will disappoint due to this. This isn't to say Hasbro can't do good modern versions, Nitro Convoy arguably fixes the original toy and it's unnecessary flip changer design. TM2 Megatron is a fantastic piece and the 'dragster' nonsense isn't missed at all. A few of the BW figures like Optimus Primal and Tarantulus are more 'modernisations' than upgrades, but are still really good toys. I guess Cheetor is pretty alright too, it's just as you get into BW, the less upgrades are necessary and the more you get into toys and media focused around a play pattern that can't be replicated, the more you loose.

You can't even really complain about psychoprime in this one either. Idk why but I found Sam more likeable in this one, the character moments between him and Mkayla were good, if a little cringe inducing at parts that overly rely on awkward humor. A little odd that they just make out on Bumblebees hood later, but hey I wouldnt be a prude about where and when I did whatever woth Megan Fox either.

In the case of Armada Prime though, his legs were literally just planks that came together to form the illusion of legs, and the Minicon gimmick was useless in all modes except the base mode. Despite the new trailer base mode being somewhat of a downgrade compared to the original the toy more than makes up for it with a much better Super Mode and I'd honestly prefer the latter over since a Super Mode is far better than a battle station that most Optimus Primes are associated with. I can't speak for Hot Shot, Starscream and Megatron on whether they're a true upgrade to the original toy but for Armada Optimus, the Legacy toy truly is a deserving upgrade over what we got originally.

Bumblebee in this movie is being like Jake the Dog used to be, in early shit, where sometimes he just acts 'like a dog' on purpose. because their culture is based on old videos and shit, so that's their understanding of waht dogs are.. despite clearly not being the case in the future. Bee enjoys 'being a car' and that includes being bought, looking good in front of other cars, and being made out on top of.

my point is, if a bunch of robots who have scanned altmodes show up, I guess I'd like those modes to look good.. but if it's just SPECIAL MECHA TASKFORCE J then I'm okay with some 'pillbug' hovering up that looks like a star trek phaser, next to a 'beetle' with tank treads and a turret, and overhead an x-wing ripoff is identified as the "dragonfly" like the units feel right as things you'd send out to fight giant monsters. or that you'd have in a scrolling shmup game. I'm okay with them being about as convincing altmodes as the pretenders.

It was around the time Zenkaiger started and it was deemed necessary that Super Sentai needed a shakeup, they weren't expecting it to hit sales on the same level as Kamen Rider but its been slumping regardless. So one of those changes is more poseable Robos/Zords though they'll still make bricks here and there, especially the ones that upgrades the main Robos/Zords.

I always remember the confused idea of Kakure Daishogun's knees. The frog gets knees that don't really look right or froggish in any pose other than fully bent, then they become the robot knees, but the frog arms tuck into the kneepads, so now they can't move properly anymore. and that's not even getting into the bizarre hand-helmets.

If anybody has any interest in sentai style stuff and giant robots, they should check out King Ohger. Its the best sentais been in over a decade.

The CGI can look cheap as hell, since they use greenscreens constantly, but at least they get to do crazy fantasy/scifi backdrops that arent all just japanese parking garages.

I was just thinking this looks fuckin realistic, and last time I looked sentai still looked like 90s reject cgi. like just use real suits, guys. all the time. and puppets.
it's also kind of brave of them to make them so SMALL. I haven't seen sentai mecha this small since the power rangers movie. in fact i'm surprised there's even room in the cockpit for all those crazy mechanical arms

They made the mech suit less bulky so they can have the actor do all kinds of crazy fight scenes. If you are interested, Over-Time is a sub group thats been subtitling the series into english. Theres a weekly thread in /m/ for every new episode. Sadly the series ends early next year, after 2 full seasons. But its been a great ride with a fun story and lots of action.

Get some shock oil in there, preferably after heating it up. Move it gently after applying so it goes around the peg. After a day, you should be able to get it out, then remove the shock oil so it doesn't end up stuck to your figured after handing that toy.

Gimmicks depend on the toy. Something like Armada Starscream where the cannons flip over and it has a wow factor? That's cool as shit. Frankly, if Armada Sideswipe had more engineering in the front of the car, it would have been totally salvageable. I think a bad gimmick gives the toy nothing while producing an aesthetically unpleasing toy. Energon Optimus comes to mind first.

i not only successfully evened out the shitty cream overlay color on my discount used tigatron using mixed clear paints (turns out the secret to low saturation is really really thin coats), but also now the proper thick coating of clear yellow is looking great. slightly pooling in crevices, but that just gives a nice shadow effect. gonna be a fun mustard-ass tiger when it's done.
I'm gonna do the green parts in dark metallic red, so overall he'll feel chinesey as heck. but what should I do with the 'silver' parts, e.g. the robot head and arms, pelvis with scary face carving, and the little discs on his thighs? I can't decide what would work best there. could actually make them silver. or perhaps try to make 'metallic yellow' that isn't gold, but still stands out against the fur.. or maybe this is a good time for coppery bronze? kinda evoking those huge temple bells?

You have to mesure a lot but its easy, just look at the stock parts and use them as reference.

Yes, fillament are mostly cheaper, but you can get some high end models that give you quality close to resin prints and can even use diferent color fillament at the same time,

I'd recommend you to start with a filament printer, way easier to use and you don't need to wear gloves or worry about toxic resin spills.

Hard to fully make out but once I realized the blurry part was the actual table and that the platforms went past the "foot" area, it was easy to spot. It also keeps angling outward towards the bottom and the feet don't do that currently.

Busted out my old Steelbane for a comparison; looks like they actually DID make a few minor improvements to the mold - namely, they fixed the dragon shins so that they don't look as flat and may actually support his weight better, and that extra shield piece covers that horrible gap the Steelbane mold had from behind (which was originally only loosely covered by his sword. Looks like it tabs into the same slot). I can't really tell where Crimsonflame's gunlance goes, though - is it part of his stand and not actually part of his transformation?
I can totally see why they went with this mold in specific, though - Steelbane is a lot more 'noodly' than I remember, and the mold definitely makes for a better Long Dragon than it does a Wyvern.

In theory, it's not a bad looking mold - Steelbane looked awesome in both modes (when posed properly like in >>10772407, but we all know Hasbro can't pose for shit in their stock photography). His problem was his weird transformation scheme - the feet didn't really hide all that well (or at all, really), he had a gap in his dragon back that his sword barely covered (and the sword itself always ended up bent because of how it mounts to that spot), the dragon feet looked horrible because they were too flat, and his upper torso didn't really stay put in either.ode because the wings were too heavy, causing him to be a floppy mess. This new one removes the wings from the beast arms, which in and of itself should resolve his main floppiness issue, plus it gives him better beast feet and uses a shield to cover his back gap; the only issue from the original that seems to still be there are the exposed robot feet on the back of his neck and tail.

Steelbane is also not very faithful to the movie. IIRC all the Guardian Knights merge together to transform into a multi-headed dragon.

Hasbro really dropped the ball there. Ditto for Infernocus being a remolded Prime legends sized Abominus. Or releasing 7 Dinobots in AOE despite there only being 4 in the movie.

Apparently, the while info on the Tidak Wave's larger turrets being 5mm was confirmed pretty quick, it turns out the smaller turrets are 3mm, ao you can pose them and pass them around as well.

Also, I saw many bitching about his hips being limited. They aren't. The front section with the cannons can hinge up and the whole chest csn hinge forward so articulation isn't an issue

Steelbane is faithful to his original concept art, and would have looked very much like his toy had the scene been implemented as planned. Unfortunately, his actual scene was cut from the final film - he was part of a submarine chase and ultimately killed 'Nautica', but the whole thing was cut.
The big dragon the others merge into was originally supposed to be Megatron. It was mentioned by someone a few threads back - you'll have to dig through the archives, since 4chan is preventing me from posting the concept art from a phone (when the fuck did that become a thing)?

Thanks - that's one of the images I was looking for. The other is Steelbane's concept art - the 'Underwater Ship Dragon' bit that shows his wyvern alt mode.
So much got either cut or shuffled around during that movie's production that I'm convinced it was supposed to be two entirely different films that they Frankenstein'd into one, dropping shit that either didn't fit into the new narrative or that they didn't have time to properly implement at the last second.

That's the one! You can see this is what Steelbane's toy was based on (or, depending on what was made first, what was based off of the toy) - you can see the big spike from the robot knee and even the robot foot behind the head, if you squint a bit. That anon in the other thread said he was supposed to be chasing the submarine when they went to the Knight's underwater ship, and that there was going to be a big fight between him and the sub-bot (which he would win). So the toy isn't 'unfaithful' to the movie, it's that the only scene that would have shown his alt mode was dropped, so we only see the robot mode (which got a swapped head in the film) and the combined mode (that wasn't supposed to be the knights to begin with) rather than his individual mode.

thankfully if you turn them around backwards and add some little pieces to hold them in place, they tend to make decentlooking guns. If their main shaft was just sliiightly rounder, you could easily plug them into C-grips and make cool claw weapons out of them.

Transformers doesn't make toys anymore. They design plastic simulacrums from the ground up. Zero effort is expended in explaining or appealing to the potential consumer as to why they might want this toy because they've wanted this "toy" for the past 20+ years of their life. That is, until the next, marginally more accurate version comes along in 2.5 years. That'll be 90 dollars for a Voyager class, plus tip.

Having Inferno, I definitrly can understand some of the issues. But I really like him, he feels more solid than I thought he would. I maybe would have preferred a more complex transformation, but thats me. I like them complicated. More than ass gun stowage, I would have preferred his ant legs all have a knee joint in them. That being said in robot mode his legs are far less intrusive than my other BW Bug, Legacy Buzzsaw. Cool toy! Opening mouth and his pincers go quite a long way in charming the likes of me. I cant help but love the guy. While I don't care about Antagony, I'd be ALL OVER an actual Scavenger retool. Never ever happening, but a man can dream.

I actually really love Spychanger Silverstreak. He's got a really unique headsculpt with his Egon Spengler goggles, and his colors are fantastic; reminds me of Tailgate, who's colors I also love. Plus they're both Firebird/Trans-Ams.

Also he's got alt mode weapon storage on a literal 1/64 scale car. I love it. The whole idea of a Transformer that can fit in with Hot Wheels and even use their tracks and playsets is arguably the single best integration of the "robots in disguise" concept to ever exist. This guy is unironically in my top 10 Transformers of all time. I really love how "90s" he is, despite coming out in 2004.

Does anyone else have a favorite Spychanger? We need a Spychangers revival.

Oh, is this guy hot on the aftermarket, now? I actually got him for 8 bucks from my local TRU when he came out. I haven't played with him in years, actually. I went looking for him because Cliffjumper has been kinda cool in the new Transformers comic, and he's the only Cliffjumper I own, outside of a beat-up G1 version. He's got an absolutely brilliant alt mode, but I'm too high to transform him right now, lol. I'm impressed by how well the G1 head works on the Prime body.

mmmm nah. I actually only own about four or five UT era toys, counting minicons. I'm not going to argue that there aren't a LOT of technically "bad" toys across all the lines, but the ones that are good are absolutely timeless.

I just think it's a shame that something that has definitely been neglected over the past several years is the effort of presentation; making a toy feel like something worth owning even if you don't know jack about the franchise. The Takara LG toys literally included entire, full color mini comics that were focused around the toy you just bought, making it feel like an actual character in its own right with zero nostalgia required. Takara had been doing this even has far back as the Henkei era, pic related.

Like seriously, people used to bitch about the fact that the takara versions used to cost like 35-40 bucks to import, but I definitely think the better paint jobs, plastic, and pack in comics were worth it. For real, when are we going to get a translated Sakamoto LG comics omnibus?

I never bought the RID version of the mold, but I also never thought it looked bad. I definitely think that one of the benefits that came out of his re-engineered transformation was his better lower half. He's obviously not a horrid toy, but it's amusing how the TF Prime 1st Edition figures vs. the RID line exemplify the shift in values between older TF stuff and what we're getting now, for better or for worse.

I forgot that I also own the this Cliffjumper. Damn, he's good too. Such a unique transformation for a carbot that still ends up with louvers on the shins, as per the G1 Tailgate/Windbreaker mold. Love it, love it.

He's only a Deluxe, given he's made from Steelbane's mold, and I imagine people who were dissatisfied with the original toy will probably be wary of this new guy. Still, he's going to be a limited release - Asia exclusive right now, but he'll eventually show up in the West at some point, probably as a Pulse exclusive in small quantities - so it'll ultimately boil down to demand.
That being said, don't scalp. It's a sleazy practice, and the amount of shit you have to sell to break even or come anywhere near what you could earn from just getting a fucking job makes me wonder why people bother with it at all. There are far better ways to earn a living than flipping toys and playing the guessing game for whether or not an item is going to be worth buying up all the stock for.

Never - none of the characters from that mold were ever officially partnered to anyone in any media, so they have virtually no chance of getting a modern release the way Jolt or Whisper did. If you didn't nab him 15 years ago, you're just out of luck.

I got the Netflix optimus and rattrap 2 pack today. I started collecting this year and so I missed out on kingdom when it came but I haven’t been disapointed by a single one of the beast wars figures I’ve gotten so. Rattrap in particular is such a great little guy, so compact with his transformation. Optimus feels a bit loose and stiff in some parts but I still like him a lot. Kinda wish he had the old large flip out cannons.

Henkei/United/Legends failed because Japan just doesn't like Transformers enough to make them viable at retail so they had to stop selling them. The brand only still exists because of the west.

I don't mind the overall look, but there's no way an accurate toy could be made that transforms into a vehicle unless there's a huge amount of removable kibble.
