>>10806937I don't hate japan at all, I indulge in more eastern media than western at this point, I just don't like the direction they tend to take when it comes to Transformers.
This mostly stems from them trying to force some human connection. I really don't like headmasters and powermasters conceptually because it just feels like they're trying to force TF to be mecha adjacent instead of just letting the robots themselves be characters, and it always almost comes with them getting some arbitrary power-up "just because"(literally no reason).
There's also the issue of powerlevelfaggotry that tends to come with it, but how bad that is really depends on the series.
Everything else is fine. Combiners and shit are cool, the UT stuff was fine except for cyber planet keys (I don't care what you think, magical powerup keys appearing out of fucking nowhere is completely retarded, fuck you) Victory was mostly enjoyable.
This isn't to say westoid TF writing is all amazing either, but I prefer it being more tangible with maybe a few magical cybertronian macguffins if they really have to. And, yknow, about the fucking robots being robots without human influence.
This has little-to-no bearing on collecting actual figures though. I have a fair bit of JPG1 stuff and especially niche repaints/retools because I usually like the designs and the appeal of having less popular characters in my collection. Also haslab deathsaurus is a fantastic figure.
