i started to experience this around 2017-2018. It was exactly the year when lego threads started to be full of zoomers and NEVERENDING arguing with starwars fags.
It's also a timeline when normies started to be overly obsessed with Lego starwars.

I drew this picture as a good buy for a last comfy year of /lg/.
Now it's basically a /pol/fag/zoomer general.
Before 2017 it was just a regular comfy general where nobody was whining and crying about politics trannies/whatever.

Back then i was always happy to encounter another lego-fan.
Now it's just another insufferable faggot who likes "PREMIUM" lego shit (the ones that collects the dust) and looks down on you if you actually collect lego and (oh no) build with it.

Oh yeah don't forget about INVESTORKEKS - those started to appear as well.

Most new sets that aren’t part of the city line are either crap with awful aesthetics or they’re extremely expensive icons/ideas sets, in some ways things did used to be better

Looking briefly through the /lg/ it seems like there’s not this kind of universal rejection of new sets unless they’re from those ugly garish themes like ninjago, dreamzzzzzzzz or monkey kid. Lego did used to have a greater level of price and complexity variety along with consistently better aesthetics, I’d say that the big sets are better now than they used to be but the small sets and theme variety genuinely are lacking

I love designing my own shit and I buy big used rubbermaid tubs from facebook marketplace (formerly craigslist) for pennies on the lego dollar, and clean and sort out the mega bloks garbage. I've found some rare expensive sets in my hauls and sometimes I rebuild them, like the star wars ep 2 speeder chase. But most of the time they just get turned into other shit. I don't get along with the lego fans in the general here at all because they're all faggots who are disappointed in sets because of features they lack but refuse to simply augment the set themselves and give it those features with a couple dozen additional parts. As if it was Lego company's job to make every single thing on the shelf a perfect infallible standalone masterpiece. No, shitters. It's a BUILDING TOY for CREATIVITY. The instructions in the box are a fucking starting point. A suggestion.

I have to disagree with you. Lego City is damn near the worst thing they sell these days. Vehicles are alright but the architecture is completely retarded. The buildings in Friends sets are so much better it's goddamn embarrassing. Houses, apartments, schools, you name it, Friends did it better than City.

Lego was created as a toy that you can build anything with. Autists and manchildren turned it into model collecting and treat the sets like statueshit. They build it, following the instructions perfectly, put it on display and never touch it again. Such retards need to learn what scale models are, they'd suit their needs much better. Don't turn a toy that's supposed to be modified, rebuild and imagined with into a ugly blocky statue of something you mildly enjoy. Refusal to deviate from the status quo is the antithesis of Lego.
