>>10835763>Why do American Transformers fans act like only their version of the franchise is gospel and everything Japanese is heresy? You tell them Transformers is a collaborative and has single creator, then they insist that "No, Transformers are 100% American and only matter because of Hasbro and their new names!!! The toys and Japanese never actually mattered!"Well, whatever person you argued with on /co/ or facebook or twitter or tf2005whatever isn't everyone. Plenty of people liked japanese shows like victory, headmasters etc. And plenty of people liked later shows like Armada, energon, RiD, etc.
As for why Americans tend to treat american shows like they are gospel, I think there are two reasons.
1.Time and money investment. They have sunk more of their time and money into the lore and toys of the US series. They're not interested into sinking time into alternative takes on the character.
2. uh, and this going to hurt your feelings, but uh, a lot of the japanese shows are written poorly and made for children. Like small children. For whatever reason japan writes transformers for 5 year olds while american shows write their shows for kids between 8 and 12. They keep stuff colorful so that 4 and 5 year olds can enjoy it, but the writing is still for a kid around 8 to 12. Sometimes its not even written specifically for kids, but a general family audience.
As bad as some people think G1 S3 is, it is still whips the piss out of the writing for transformers headmasters. Daniel for one is written like a bumbling stupid high on meth little shit in HMs. They also replace grimlock with wheelie who also acts like a bumbling stupid high on meth little shit.
Another good example is beast wars. US Beast Wars has more mature plot threads and dialog than the JP Beast Wars 2. It just does. You can't watch the Jointrons, as fun as they are, and say the writing is as good. The best characters in the show are the seacons.
