Got the last Elise I needed in the mail today. Of course the only 2 in the past decade are the exact same color with different wheels. The later one with gunmetal wheels has the Lotus badging tampoed on the back while the one with black wheels doesn't. Otherwise they are about exactly the same.

Lurk here a while and you'll hear a lot of bitching about scalpers who hoard desirable cars and mark the price up. The super treasure hunts you're looking for are first to disappear.
Your best chance is to find out when your local store receives new inventory and when they stock it on shelves, but even that may not work if there's someone at the store opening crates and poaching cars before they're even stocked.

I know I'm over simplifying an insane market but I've just gotta facepalm that you can get the outrageously detailed Mini GT version of this car, with totally race-accurate paint job for LESS than a Hot Wheels main line with a generic livery...which should be hanging on a peg for $1.25.

It's tough, other countries don't get as much stock as America so we are already at a disadvantage.
I normally have luck going to stores people either don't visit often or aren't known for carrying toys. It also helps to find out what time of day they normally fill the shelves.
Here in Mexico, I have found STH in Sears, Coppel and in mexican supermarket chains; always early in the morning

why are they even collecting 'real' cars if they are altered to the point is almost completeyly off proportions?

personally i like crazy customized real cars, and that was what hot wheels brand was made on. big hot rod wheels, huge engines, crazy exhausts. i mean, if 'stock' are already out of proportiosn, why not go overboard with it?

for stock real cars i would look for any different brand than hot wheels

is hot wheels imagination of a modern chevelle ss hoever its not restro at all, it does not feel nostalgic. it feels like futuristic muscle car and this is how i can imagine muscled up cheelle ss if gm decided to revive this model

Great choice. Muscle Tone is also a good one. Generally any fantasy casting that looks like it could actually be made, I like and will collect. There is one new model recently that came out (I don't know it's name) that looked pretty cool but its engine was mounted transverse in the rear and where it was placed made the car impossible to actually make irl. Still looked the part though.

If you're talking about the Tooned cars then I fully agree. If it were up to me I would make sure almost every licensed Hot Wheels casting should have some of that essence whether it be comically large superchargers or outlandish aero. My personal favorite of those has to be the Tooned Countach.

Overboard is a wicked take on a Chevelle. There's a good few of those "Hey what if this car was still produced today" castings that come every now and then and they all seem to have good success. Last one I can recall was Group C Fantasy.

It's a disgrace they stopped producing Monoposto and Celero GT had me convinced it was some Chinese EV vaporware for a good month.

My favorite used to be What 4-2 but recently I've really grown to love Sidedraft a lot more. Looks like an insane hybrid of a Lamborghini Diablo and a Bentley Speed 8. It'd probably eat shit on a racetrack with the lack of any major downforce from the rear but the car's such a stunner that I couldn't care less.

Not just tooned (in fact I think most of them are way over the top but some, like Impala I posted are fine) but in general. For example Shoe Box.It's hotrodded Ford 49

It's a shame they retooled the El Camino to remove both the original scoop intake and the massive wing it had. Looks depressing without it in my opinion. That Limited Grip is probably my favorite version of it at the moment so that's dope. Originally when I saw the card art for the Custom Otto I thought it was just metallic paint with interesting lighting for the artwork but no it's actually a two tone. Not sure how I feel on it yet.

Back to collecting diecast after 5-10 years. I want to expand my tiny MOPAR corner. Already have Charger (old mold with opening hood) Challenger, Barracuda and Superbird.

Fast and Furious Challenger in Orange from last year was real nice. Had full deco. Another Challenger, albeit with less deco, was the Purple Walgreens exclusive from last year as well. I showed mine a few threads back.

An old casting, but a fave is the 90s casting of the Dodge Charger Daytona in red. A plymouth GTX of 71 or 72 was on the pegs last year in orange and blue. And a yellow Superbird in the boulevard set came out a couple years back like the one have pictured, albeit with premium wheels.

Last I can think of is the 1st edition of the Plymouth Barracuda convertible from the 90s.

Yeah, those appeared on the pegs right after I paid for the expensive Inno. I bought a few of them, and kept some socked away, NRFB.
