Wish the TF team's budget would be increased to have two commanders a year in Legacy instead of just one. I feel like I want, like, half the list given here.
Sixshot, Overlord, Thunderclash, Armada Overload (though I'd prefer him Leader), SL and GF Optimus's, Animated Lugnut, and that's not counting ones not on the list like SL Scorponok, Marvel or IDW Fort Max n Scorponok, maybe GF Master Megatron? hoogghh.

Super Link, ie Energon's JP title (obv Scorponok was called Megazarak there). Likewise "GF" is Galaxy Force, ie Cybertron. It shellforms, most of thr ship mass goes to the back, the robot parts probably strch out to form most of the underside of the ship mode. The biggest issue are the threads, they don't show up anywhere on the robot mode.

In the movie:

-Landing pad splits open, shoulder pieces move to connect with the torso
-Torso and legs are behind the shoulder bits, with the torso moving to robot mode orientation
-Meanwhile, the thrusters behind the ship curl up over the torso.
-As this happens, the 3 tails, apparently far up the ship ( probably sandwich between the hull and torso) move to the back.
-Head pops from the torso, arms extend from the shoulders, then feet appear from within the legs

Hull parts and catterpillar tracks should end up forming a large backpack. A toy would probably store a chunk of the hull and tracks into the thrusters

And then Wing Saber existed as as an alternate set of arms and legs, but he's too big to expect to sell on his own. AND Optimus also "combines" with Omega Supreme, although the combination is just opening up Omega's back and slotting Optimus in.
This is all just what must be adapted from the base offering figure, ignoring that there was a deluxe figure that could combine with the other Autobots, or "Hot Shot's Blaster".

Wing Saber is probably the worst magic mushroom figure. Unlike the others, his only cool features are his appearance, his articulation was extremely limited, and didn't have any real weapons (his knee guns are so awkward).

Only if they release an Energon Omega Supreme, and modify their combo to work better. Like the drone limbs plug into new slots on Omega's body to make for a more evenly distributed and better integrated arrangement. Also Optimus might need a bigger 3rd head.

Energon Optimus is completely doable at retail, especially at Voyager size and being a simple design theres enough room to make the drones and make them as poseable as possible in arm and leg modes. Wing Saber is also still possible, he's not an extremely niche character that he has to be HasLab and he also only has to serve as a combining partner to Optimus so he can advertised as a Leader 'weaponizer'.

I really want a Cybertron Prime that isn't ass. Commander of Stars was painfully close, but the lack of accommodation for the combine modes kill it for me. Titian Cybertron Prime with a Leobreaker that can properly assume a poseable arm mode with articulated hand and a Wingsaber all in one pack would be amazing. Galvaron and Nemesis breaker with the final battle swords would be a perfect follow-up.

As oppose to what? Jhiaxus? Crankcase? Tasmania Kid? We've gotten quite a few C-list names or so that not a lot has ever heard of as toys and Wing Saber certainly has a chance if they do. Wing Saber (at least the Energon version) will always be remembered as that guy who always combined with Optimus irrespective of his personality so he has a good chance.

No but he'd do well at Leader class, if Magmatron who not a lot of people are aware of and comes from an anime that isn't talked or mentioned as much compared to Beast Wars II manages to get the coveted Commander Class then I think Wing Saber has a chance as well.

To those still confused, he's named Majin Zarak for a reason.

He was planned as a heavy retool of the Zarak toy.

Scorpion mode, flipped upside down. Replace his tiny green legs with the landing strip top of the carrier, and have it split open as need be.

The Scorpion hands are straight forward, with his claws removed. The shoulder pieces become the red and gray front of the boat, and split to become his shoulder pads. The tiny arms would drop out of that.

The scorpion tail becomes the thrusters which flip onto his back like the original scorponok toy.

Ironically, the current version of scorponok would need LESS re-engineering because it A)has normal knees meaning the legs can actually fold up without trouble and B) transforms the legs in a way that would be easily hidden under the deck
But it lacks the forward shifting shoulder joints of the original, so it's a bit of a wash.

It's just the fake shading I dislike, because well... it's shadows. Shadows are meant to move with the light; if they don't, the illusion is broken and it looks weir, even if stylized.
If they keep the dots but take out the shading I could be into it, sure. Ultimately I'd prefer a straight and plain deco, but I wouldn't complain is the point.

Nonnef's stuff is decent but he's not very flexible or responsive. Parts disappear from sets but he doesn't change the price. Has a few Legacy sets but mostly gave up after Kingdom.

Well, the Grimlock, Slug and Sludge sets are about 48 bucks total.

Considering he was released in 2004 where the engineering is still in its infancy and that he had to split apart to form arms and legs for Optimus that can go either way there is some leniency in him being a brick. Now that it's been 20 years and the engineering has advanced greatly if they can work in articulation for Wing Saber and retain his combination then all's well. Just hoping they start doing Energon/Superlink Optimus and Wing Saber in the next trilogy after Legacy.

Selects Wheeljack is up on Ebay, can't post pics but the car mode has almost no paint at all. The stripe for the foot is too small and the same goes for thr numbers on the doors.

The toy also has a gun, I believe from the Legacy Elita mold but not sure if it's something the selects WJ will have.

I kinda dig the way his chest and feet look, but it’s just the arms that put me off. The other bits at least sort of highlight his details, but the arm shading just looks randomly plastered on. The shading in grimlock on the hand is very tame in comparison. Just a few black lines and panels here and there, it seems more reliant on just letting the colors pop. It’s also used to give the dino mode an angry face if you’re into that

Same, the only good thing MP Grimlock had was the look and colors, it sucked at doing everything else. I might not love be 100% behind the asthetic of the 86 Dinobots, but Grimlock being able to pose worth a damn, the transformation being enjoyable and the lack of garbage chrome made him the superior figure.

Cybertron Prime and Megs are pretty standard for leaders of the era. Metroplex is the outlier and even then he's a total lanklet. You should really be comparing them to his shorter bot mode.

Yep. I distinctly remember a huge pool of what I could only assume was mold release oil in the tray behind it. The toy itself? Totally dry. But even then, I've heard the hips thing is universal. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on the internet who noticed the flaw because I don't see talk about it outside of my posts in these threads. You pretty much have to open the shoulders immidiately, then cut/shave pieces in the shoulder that catch on to the gears so it can ratchet properly. If you don't so this right after you get it (don't even move then while in package) the damage might be too severe and make it impossible to use his weapon in both robot modes. If you don't do it, the shoulder will end up grinding the gear to the point I'll turn completely useless.

And yeah, I remember finding the wrist ratchets on the Ark stupid, even more so after Metroplex lacked then

It's way more noticeable once you have it in hand. When you get it, take the whole piece off and test the gear without putting any force, then cut and test until it moves smooth. The shoulder section that has the issue should be this one for both sides.

Don't know about you, but my Sludge can barely hold poses after I did some fixes, out of the box I could keep it either standing straight or A stance. If the knees were bent it would fall backwards because they would give out. If you widened his stance too much, the legs would spread out completely since the pinned hips had no friction.

It moreso has to so with how I built the character up in my own head. You're right in that he barely gets a fair shake in the show. I had the original toy and I just liked that he had a distinctive personality compared to G1 Metroplex, much less most characters in TF media in general. A Scottish axman who is bigger and tougher than the rest and turns into a bagger 288-style machine was an imposing and all-around unique transformers character to me from the very get-go. Dude fucks. I sold off nearly all of my Cybertron figures for better or worse. But I kept him. The Titan version has enough extra going on that I really love it all the same. One of my favorite characters in any TF continuity.

why can't i have a bulb, a length of wire that plugs in (so you could try different wire lengths), and either a power plug or a battery pack? why can't it just come that way? then a customizer would need only unscrew something, pop it in, and drill a hole for the wire, if there isn't already a good spot to stash the button cell or whatever.

I disliked it on different grounds.

The price isn't horrible...relative to current trends. It's definitely two commanders and a deluxe plus a small HasLab tax. The trouble is that commanders deliver less than leaders used to. These guys were $30 20 years ago. They had electronics, spring launchers, rubber tires, the works. All of that's been stripped out and the price tripled.

Literally the only improvement is less vac metal. It chipped like crazy, especially on Fire Convoy, so I don't miss it.

It's also not, in my opinion, the best celebration of the 40th anniversary. Anti-G1ers may not like it but we're celebrating 40 years of G1. They straight up skipped the 20th anniversary of RID2001, which is where this should've landed if they couldn't wait for the 25th.

So far, the 40th is looking even less impressive than the 30th. They've announced a bunch of shitty trinkets (Pops, FigPins, ReActions, etc) along with stuff they were going to do anyway. But something that truly celebrates 40 years of G1 or that G1 fans had given up hope of ever seeing because it was "impossible," not so much.

I would have bought both by themselves, eat shit. RiD was my introduction to Prime (since my first over all TF series was Beast Wars with Primal) and Magnus (ironic since they were never meant to be Prime and Magnus)

Also yeah I'm with the original anon, judging by the amount of rabid backers alone, God Magnus totally would've worked at retail, and I personally can't see Commander-tier engineering in him, especially if he's transforming the same as his original; he would be totally uncompromised at modern Leader price. One could argue that the rabid backers are mainly in it for Fire Convoy and the combined God Fire mode, but then so what? Look at how many people are clamoring right now for Armada Overload purely to "complete" their Armada Optimus, despite him being a nobody character, and with arguably just as awkward a robot mode as God Magnus has.

It's like people have been saying: the only reason God Fire Convoy is a Haslab is because he's not [[[too]]] mainstream per G1 standards, but is mainstream ENOUGH that he would ensure Hasbro's big 40th Anni. Haslab wouldn't fail backing.
Hopefully this is a onetime thing and they won't do this again, but then with Hasbro, the monkey's paw always curls...

I think this is an interesting argument; putting aside how the original figures realized the designs and judging purely on their looks, I'd say Overload looks better. Magnus looks like an enormous pair of legs with a tiny torso shoved on top and a pair of anchor arms. Overload has much better proportions and his red deco is much more striking. I don't feel strongly about either vehicle mode but Magnus' cab is better looking than Overload's front.

The 90s era is pretty much the last part of the Golden era before everything went down with the 2000s and the constant remakes and reinaginings that tries and fails to understand what made the originals great. I think fans are stupid when it comes to vilifying materials, particularly clear plastic and rubber tires, and even die-cast. They're throwing the baby out with the bath water. Clear plastic is fine...when you don't cast entire car bodies out of it or use it for hinges. Rubber is fine...when you don't use the shittiest Vietnamese quality you can fine. Die cast is fine...when you don't put it above the center of gravity or rub other parts against it.

The real problem is stupid designers. Taking away materials doesn't solve the problem. They'll do stupid things with whatever they have.

If these threads are anything to go by, Car Robots fans have found plenty engineering/mold-wise to complain about with the Haslab and retail Legacy figures, so you're not exactly getting significantly worse treatment or anything.
Besides, imo Gears is just kind of middling; he's suitable enough for me to get behind, but I see where his obvious problems are. Then again for a C-tier character like him I'm not really expecting the moon. Kinda cope answer, but eh, my sympathies still to those who grew up with nothing but a single G1 Gears toy for their entire lives and have pathologically imprinted themselves onto him.

Because they're celebrating the entire franchise, and G1 still has two lines now entirely dedicated to it to make up for it (SS86 and Comic)? It's only "looking bare" by the previous decade's standards of having everything be G1: the current Legacy lineup has the same amount of G1 toys as toys from any other universe. Hell, Super Link and Beast Machines are only getting single core class molds, and Car Robots is literally ONLY getting the one deluxe outside of the Haslab. I don't even remember if the Bay films are getting anything beyond the one core class we already got... And TFP's only getting the single voyager this year too, I think, disregarding any capsule line.

Regardless, G1's definitely getting just as fair a shake as anything else, if not more.

Well you have to remember it in some context. When the _toyline_ launched, they were all-in on it being the G1 characters as animals. When the _show_ launched, they dialed that back and made them all "new" characters.

I didn't want Optimus Prime as a gorilla. I was fine with Optimus Primal being a different character. But all people remember is "trukk not munkee."

Then there's how people remember the entire era. Most people think just Beast Wars but it also includes Beast Machines. Beast Wars wasn't anything super special until the second season in my opinion and I wasn't particularly thrilled with parts of the third season (because I hated TM2s).

Then Beast Machines was an absolute dumpster fire. We had to watch the story unfold a half hour at a time, once a week. So most of the first season is confused Maximals running away from Vehicons and cheesy "explosions." Gradually all of the Maximals become extremely ugly as they learn to "transform." Primal spends a bunch of time being an angsty eco-terrorist. The second season comes around and uglifies most of the Vehicons. Rhinox and Rattrap get character assassinated. The finale is good but can't make up for the previous 50 episodes.

The thing with Cybertronian designs is that I'm thinking from a POV where vehicles are something for people to ride in. On Cybertron, the people _are_ the vehicles. So you dump any part of it that relates to having a driver. Windows, for instance. Why do they have windows if there's no driver/passenger inside? But then you're quickly left with a box with wings or wheels. And I think, why can't the robot just have a jetpack or roller skates? Why transform at all?

That's where the concept loses me. It's the disguise part. Doesn't have to be a car or tank, a tape player or microscope works too. But it has to be recognizable. Otherwise, what's the point?

I wish there was more for me than the comics. Enjoyed IDW2 and I enjoy Skybound now, but Earthspark wasn't for me. Don't actively dislike it, but it wasn't interesting either and IMO badly written and everything that I have heard about the origin movie so far makes me hate it. Yes please. Currently a fan of the Bravern super robot anime and the new Gridman franchise. If we would ever get a TF series that is close to any of these I would lose my shit but it sounds too good to be true.

Earthsparks biggest issue is how dull the conflict has been. We've gotten many shows or shows with small casts, but the show doesn't have a hook to keep you interested.

Decepticons are scattered, and most fights are Autobots just catching Decepticons. It's basically a boring version of animated.

Instead we got nothing and within half of an episode the whole cast became friends. The only actual villain was a human OC who is worse than all Cons together and they never bothered to even talk about the past save for the memorial episode that was about a fight on Earth, not the conflict that started the war.

It's hard to even know whether I should be chill with the Decepticons or not because they never clarified what they did. Were they space hitlers like in earlier series? Were Autobots totalitarians the Cons rebelled against? No idea. They don't bother with it and the climax had zero emotional pay-off.

I think Earthspark's strength is in its character writing, there's a good amount of subtext going on.

And both of the big climaxes with Mandroid were properly spectacular

My problem are most of the kid MCs, particularly the later introduced Terrans. I feel like it was too much of the same. My favorite character is Bee, probably even my favorite Bee so far. The mother is cool too, Megs and Optimus are charismatic, but lack screentime and an own agenda to make them very interesting for now. Tarantulas and Breackdown seem like characters that deserve more interactions as well.

Really? I think the Terrans are probably the strongest characters, but that might be bias since they're also the most prominent.
They're decently three dimensional but I also like that splash of naivety they have on account of being literally weeks old.
It's fun seeing this group that have actually zero knowledge of war bounce of a cast that's spent millennia mired in it

None of them has a different agenda or moral, they are all good, honest kids that don't like bad people and are naive due to being young and knowing nothing about the war and they are almost always acting in the group. Now count the human kids in that are basically the same stereotype and you have seven MCs of the same type.

Also I should mention, if you're really good with a hobby knife, I'd highly recommend just cutting Breakdown's stupid spoiler in half so you can transform him without partsforming it. It's such a major minor improvement that I forgot that I actually did that myself.
