distribution really is a ass right now. particularly the last movie line, good god that was mishandled. I'm almost happy we didn't get a bunch of fun toy-original maximals and terrorcons, because i never would have been able to get them anyway. Had a dick of a time getting all the mini-minis. Honestly I'm shocked that Hot Shot hasn't been in more versions of the transformers. He's essentially Hot Rod (the cocky kid who learns about the responsibility of command), except he's there from the beginning instead of showing up right before becoming the leader. He could easily replace Bumblebee in a lot of media.

Torso bots make sense to be leader, good amount of engineering and plastic for what supports the whole thing. Pieces like the chest and arms can be included with them too, unless they forgo the partsforming and work the forearms into the arm bots.

At the moment all the super mode images got prime hands in open palm position and they look horrible.

Hoping that this Devastator is up to par with Menasor. Menasor has flaws and he's using his pieces as armor basically, but it's basically the best combiner that we've had mainline. What I mean is you can actually play with him and pose him around without the whole thing falling apart or falling over and still have him look good. I think it's likely he'll be good, but I think a lot of it will hinge on the lower body. Probably why the legs are voyagers in the first place is so his feet are solid and can actually pivot around, and I wouldn't be surprised if long haul ended up being a leader for the sake of the combiner either

Don't we only get two new leader molds a year now? I like it overall though. Though the more I think about it, Armada Sideways makes the most sense as a Leader since his minicon headmaster gimmick is the defining feature of his character and toy, that seems like something only really feasible in the Leader pricepoint.

Ehhhh, there's more than aesthetic there, everything about Motormaster was reworked to be more like a Prime copy (and it's probably not a coincidence the design ended up looking a lot like the IDW Optimus at the time when they got around to making that deco). Though it's not the mold's only problem, the entire way the lower body works is just baffling how they ever thought that was a good design.

That places BM Optimus at around the same size as his Optimal body. Which means everyone else is larger than they were in Beast Wars. That's...not right. No idea where you're getting that scale from, but there's several scenes in the show with the Maximals walking around (and using as cover during firefights) the sparkless bodies of full-sized Autobots and Decepticons (Mainframe REALLY seemed to like recycling Soundwave in particular). Hell, the doors to The Citadel where Megatron had holed himself up in were still scaled to the G1 guys, hence why they were so big. Also, that Exosuit Rattrap uses in that one episode where everyone acts totally out of character was designed to let the smaller 'bots go toe-to-toe with Cybertronians who were still using the old chassis, which is why it was so big.
And then you have scenes like the life-sized Optimus hologram grabbing Primal, as well as >>10882842, when we know that Optimal Optimus was still shorter than Optimus Prime and Megatron is using an identical copy with no modifications other than the removal of its ability to convert to beast mode. Also the scene in the very first or second episode where Primal gets reformatted and stands in front of the other characters, who haven't been upgraded yet but are still roughly in the same scale with him.

Honestly, the answer is they didn't think about the scale for the last show which lines up with them also ignoring all their character's personalities in Beast Wars. But choosing to keep Megatron the same size while still making Primal about the same size sets the scale for everyone else. The rest of what you said is just you assuming things. The hologram could have been 1:1 scale, it could have been a larger than life hologram. The exosuit was just an exosuit. Cybertron wasn't scaled for the old Cybertronians, everyone downscaled hundreds of years ago, there's no reason to believe they wouldn't have done the same with their buildings.

This seems off in all kinds of ways. Not only do we see the maximals reformat from their season 1 bodies and stay similarly sized but there's no way BW cheetor is that big next to G1 Prime. In the best non-perspective affected shot we have TM Megatron one of the biggest bots at that point is like 2 OP heads tall.

if you're talking about beast wars, there's two quick retcons you have to be aware of
first in the episode where transmetal megatron is approaching Prime, Prime is WAY too big. They acknowledged this, and in the next episode (which takes place literally seconds afterward) he's shrunk down to a more reasonable size
secondly, optimal optimus was fucking gigantic in his first appearance, then noticeably shrank for every episode afterward. This could easily be a 'moleman in phonebooth' situation, but it's also explainable in-story since his body seemed unstable. It could have shrunk down and lost its vocal flange.

While they spent the least amount of time elaborating on what exactly Megatron did before the series started, it always seemed pretty clear that he shrunk down in size while trying to purge his organic material. Primal is size checked pretty thoroughly against his old body in the final fight. And he grapples with Megatron a few times in season 1 showing how similar in size they were.

in my experience, gundam marker just smears on this kind of plastic, especially somewhere you can touch it (e.g. outside of thin cracks) and even using a protective spray will just wash the marker right off from the pressure of it.
I would say spend a few bucks on a little black paint. 'vallejo model color' coats the best in my experience, vs the stuff meant for acrylic painting on canvas which is a lot thicker

i haven't tried it, but i think gunpla is a slightly softer plastic, so there MIGHT be an argument for more flexible paint, not sure. I can at least tell you I used to use a variety of paints on zoids, enamels, model-acrylics, it all stuck fine on those. You do hear people suggesting washing the plastic first to remove mold-release residue, but i've never bothered.
i don't think they'd call it 'model colors' if it wasn't good for model kits primarily, and just happens to be okay on toys.

Nice. I ordered the cartoon color version because I didn't feel the need to pay extra for a trailer that's going to be sitting inside the box most of the time. I already own a G1 reissue and that's exactly what happened with it. Not only that but if I really want I can just use that one, and also like the novelty of a Prime with show colors so it looks different to the one I already own.

If you want to try anyways, the kneepads, back of the head, heels and elbows are also black in that one. And the thighs have the yellow stripes and dots painted, that's even more important than everything else as it makes the beast mode better too.

Been thinking of G2 teams I might be able to recreate so, I figured out I can substitute Sargent Hound and General Optimus Prime with Movie Wreckage and Wreckers Bulkhead. Now I'll replace Dirtbag with Heavy Load and Road Block with Movie Scrapper.

After 5 years of owning this figure I finally decided it needed a new coat of paint.
Painted the robot torso gold, painted the dino arms and tail end silver, added a bunch of gray to the back of the dino mode, and I added a bit of extra detailing here and there. I think I was a bit trigger happy on some of the applications, but I think the gold torso looks great.
This is probably as close as I'll get to a good Generations toy accurate G1 Grimlock.

It might also be the weapons, my Grimlock always felt so incomplete to me before I got them. I spent four years on and off looking for the best option before settling on two Matrix Workshop kits. The sword is a bit oversized, but what can I do?

Grimlock is my favorite character, and I'm the kind that likes simple transformations and G1 toy asthetics, so that might be contributing to why I like him so much.

Blackarachnia is honestly the worst MP figure they've made. It feels slight and flimsy, the transformation is borderline pointless, and it just never feels worth while. Just a complete dud of a toy, only for those obsessive Beast Wars fans who need to completionism.

the colors, as you can see, are slightly off. the APPLICATION is thorough, Tigatron even gets some new ones on his feets and knee joints (but not his inner shins, which in fairness seem optional to be colored in, but there's sculpting there suggesting they should be). but the plastic-matching isn't. I fixed my tiges with paint, and I plan to do the same with BA (a little sharper gold overlaid on that orange should do the trick)
but for paying full price, I do kind of expect a little better than that.

Honestly the only things about MP Sunstreaker that bother me are the super toon look and a general lack of stability. Transformation isn't awful and I like the alt mode display options. 6-7/10. I'd say I can't wait for the fanstoys version but that thing is gonna be toon as fuck too. At least it'll be solid and hefty

I didn't get him the first go around and I didn't think I wanted to get the premium finish guys because I already have MP of all the characters, so I'm happy. I think it would be funny if it was actually TM2 Dinobot but they didn't list the TM2. Would be nice to go with TM2 Megatron. All a dream of mine, but I don't care either way. His toy was a travesty of miscoloring, looks more like he was based on that one Generations deluxe but instead of brown with gray stripes, he's (painted) Gray with (the unpainted areas as ) brown stripes. and they didn't make him purple or make his sword a missile, so there's that.

I think he'd be better if he had some kind of toy repaint or something. My thing is that I like toon proportions but I don't care for toon detailing. It's probably why I prefer many of the Diaclone repaints over the original. Those little details go a long way.

i am seriously at my wit's end now, i've managed to saw a triangular piece out of one of antagony's ant-toe-joints, and it STILL won't let me fold it. the plastic is just incredible. I wish I had some kind of... plastic tubing? ideally hardenable? hard plastic L-tubes that already coincidentally have the right diameter? double-tipped screws?? there are so many slight issues with these joint angles, and if they aren't going to let me bend them even after boiling, then it has to be cut-and-glue time.

the way I sees it, if the combiner is by far the best mode, they should be packaged together. if the individual guys are the stars, e.g. a pack of popular G1 characters who didn't used to be able to combine, but can now, and especially if the combiner system is versatile and modular, then they can be sold separately no issue.
