I don't know if he's the most difficult, but RotF Leader Prime is a pain to transform, which isn't helped by the original instruction sheet basically leaving out steps.

Disassembling the chest is weird (it feels like a joint that isn't supposed to come apart), and everything on the limbs need to be in a precise position for the cab and engine to snap together properly, which is annoying when the swords sometimes release in the middle of the process and make you have to undo some steps to set them back in position. It's also just so large and the legs so long when folded out that it's awkward to keep in position as you move everything around.

It isn't that bad, the transformation is quite simple once you figure out the strange geometry of the limbs ant how they fit in with the tank mode.

The truly fun transformations are sideburn and X-brawn the first time through. X-brawn was my first transformer at 5 or 6 and boy holy hell did his hood arm give me a hard time the first time through.

Not him, it's an easy transformation, but the clearances on that figure are atrocious. There is no reason some of that design should have made it to release the way it did.

MP44 Optimus was such a chore I have never turned him back to a truck. Masterpiece Sunstreaker was also a giant headache and has never been back to car mode but once. MP 36 Megatron, I got half way through and went back. Fuck that.

ROTF Leader Prime is just the right balance of complexity and intuitiveness for me, it's extremely clever and satisfying without ever feeling like bullshit.
MPM-04 takes that conversion scheme and just adds more pain.

Id like to add, I had every MP up to Sunstreaker. Their overly complicated transformations are what led me to drop the line. I prefer the simpler mainline now. Im too old to be spending hours transforming one figure. Also I personally enjoy being able to grab more figures for the price and getting closer to a complete cast. Something MP collectors will never experience in their lifetime without buying 3rd party and having no cohesion in their collection.

Some of the larger figures from the second Bayformers movie were insanely complex compared to the slop Hasbro puts out nowadays. Leader Prime from that series is basically screen-accurate.

For Third Party it's probably Dreamstar Silverbolt. Massive shellformer that needs tons of panels to line up perfectly and in the right order. Black Apple Optimus Prime is a close second, being a significantly more complex version of MPM4. The gas tanks can turn into his guns but they are just a mass of joints and hinges and are basically impossible to transform without a video guide. Both toys look great but you really have to set an afternoon aside to transform them.

- removable backpack kibble doesn't cleanly detach when you want it to, yet transforming the toy with it attached forces it out of it's attachment mechanism
- miniscule panel clearances
- miniscule space to enen get a figure in there to move the panels in the first place
-panels don't even line up for vechicle mode. The tabs and slots do more to be obstructions than attachment points
