>>10911527the cartoon had two seperate space arks. one set up manta-man, the other set up the extreme dinosaurs. the manta-man ark was a two parter and the ayys didnt show up until the second ep when we actually see manta-man in the flesh. As I recall they didnt even use the sharks' space force designs until the arrival of the raptors episode (the second space ark). I have to give you kudos for mentioning how bullshit their handling of the dinos and the sharks were though. Its something that always irked me and yet most fans never seem to complain about. And like you said, the actual extreme dinosaurs spin off had a completely different origin/set up that frankly felt like a downgrade compared to how SS handled them.
So aside from getting cucked out of a decent ending for the Bolton Brothers, you also just got a more watered down adaption of the Extreme Dinosaurs. I suspect rights had something to do with the change too as the Extreme Dinosaurs refer to themselves as "The Dinovengers" in the Street Sharks universe, where the spin off series actually has them call themselves the Extreme Dinosaurs while also doubling down on being an obvious TMNT clone. Seriously they were so much cooler in the Street Sharks series, down to their very origins. Just ask yourself which of these sounds cooler

But his new orange coloring in the series just made him look like an evil t-bone most of the time. In anycase it was funny seeing Gary Chalk go from voicing Spike to doing an impression of David Kaye's Megatron for Bad Rap.
