Got these two and they're better than what I was expecting, specially Starscream. My copy doesn't have some QC issues I've seen in many reviews, like the super floppy arm sliders.
Megatron is pretty damn chunky and imposing, but his shoulders bother me. And I'm not even talking about the fact the pylons don't move, I mind that less than I expected. But if they're going to make them like that at the very least they should snap into place. Those transformation joints are not strong enough, and I'm sure they will sag with Tidal Wave's junk attached to the arms.

Also Starscream instructions are so shit that they don't even tell you that the shoulder canonns can move forward. I think there's no pics of it in the box either. It's something obvious, but come on.

I also found hilarious that the guy that spent most of his screen time sitting in a throne and doing jack shit can be posed like this. There's very few Transformers toys able to pull this but the guy with the giant turren on his back can. Now that's show accuracy.

The Decepticons were designed to asymmetrical to reflect their war-torn status and can be chalked up to battle damage if one wants to imagine it that way. Now that I think about it, probably the reason Starscream looks more symmetrical than his fellow Decepticons is that he's relatively young compared to the rest, and someone that young would definitely be arrogant but also question his place in the world leading to one of the greatest character arcs Transformer ever got.

It makes sense if you consider Aaron Archer started with the Transmetal 2s, sort of sat out most of BM IIRC, and then came back to start brand managing with late BM/RiD. Armada was the first line he got to lead design.

Are there bootlegs of the Cyberverse deluxe Optimus Prime and if so is there a sure fire way to tell? I bought an Optimus off eBay and picked it up today. The seller had a whole pile of other Transformers from all kinds of different lines (Kingdom, DOTM, Masterpiece, Classics, etc.) that he let me check out, and admitted that some were KOs, they also list the KOs on their eBay page. So while the one I bought looks legit and was not listed as a KO, I'm a little paranoid now.
The one I bought looks identical to picrel, including packaging.

Not that I think MPG citybots are happening- maybe Fort Max. It's basically a way so that you have MPG carbots/jets and then they scale with the other stuff not popular enough to get an MPG

MP Grimlock was developed when Classics Optimus was planned as a leader class, but either figure as a leader at retail wasn't within budget
so they shrunk Optimus but doubled down on Grimlock to release him in the high end higher budget MP line
this is my memory of some of the interviews from the yearbooks
so in a way it's fitting that MPG brings it back to the same scale as CHUG

Oh okay, then I have read that part lol; wasn't he a toy during the late2000s though, and had a story early in FunPub's life? Am I wrong? I basically only read the fiction around Shattered Glass and GoBots so far, so I saw that "he combines and becomes Man" bit, but that's it.

Did the show outright call him Alchemist Prime? I watched CV but can't remember. But yeah it was a neat concept to finally turn Macaddam into a dude. I remember I was overall kinda underwhelmed by Cyberverse in general though, people really talked it up and it was one of the first TF cartoons I watched after getting back into the fandom recently; the ambition was really there, but I kept feeling like "hmm, if the budget were higher maybe the voice acting or the pacing/payoff or etc would be more effective" the whole time. That said, I've basically binged as many TF shows and comics as I could in the meantime, I'm basically almost done with everything lol. Maybe I'll appreciate it more if I revisit it.

..Got off-track; anyways yeah, CV Macaddam would be neat lol. He just didn't immediately register in my mind as "one of the 13" lol.

Eh, the direction of mainline MPs has been pretty trash, and while the BW MPs were mostly good they're clearly out of S1 characters that are even remotely feasible to make screen accurate. It'll be missed, but I've already been missing when MPs were good so it's nothing new to me.

Blackarachnia is fucking magic. They still haven't done Tarantulas, Waspinator, Scorponok, or Rattrap. Rattrap would be slightly hard due to his backpack shrinking on the show, and Waspinator would have to find somewhere to hide his robot legs in the abdomen, but we're nowhere near the probably-impossible Airazor and Inferno (I have ideas for how his limbs could break up into ant legs, but it would be awkward one way or another.

The hardest part by far to make work would be his hands. They need to hide somewhere, but also be cool clawed hands. Best I could think, they would be hinged at the front of the hand, so they could split in half, swing out, and become the next-to-last segment of the leg (with the remaining segment connected, so when the ends went back together, that would lay neatly across the forearm)

I think everyone's being negative nancies. Granted I'm not excited neither, but that's only because like... what's there to be excited for, I don't know anything about it? Lol.
I have hopes it will be good though, I'm keeping an open mind. If it's bad or boring then it'll be bad or boring, oh well.
Personally though, I'm mentally preparing myself for the inevitability we're all ignoring: that it'll probably end up decent enough, but treated like the worst thing ever by TF fans because it's "inaccurate" (for a franchise that has existed for 40 years solely because it drastically reinvented it's entire self repeatedly, basically every other year).
Worst part is nowadays this attitude has seeped itself into "geek" culture at large now, creative reinventions are becoming demonized; this's how we got recycled slop like RotB.

It's a similar technical issue with the original Starscream, both have their weapons on their shoulders giving them their iconic silhouette and design but it's an impractical position when fighting. Both Starscreams managed in their respective animations but in toy form its less janky when it's on the arms instead.

I just finished re-watching all of them. I really enjoyed all of them except the first two. In the past I grew to hate these movies so much I refused to watch Bumblebee and ROTB. I autistically despised how they changed characters and alt modes, but Im getting too old to care about shit like that. Bumblebee is objectively the best film of all the TF movies.

Ok, I officially like the comic now.
Before I wasnt really invested in it, I felt it was just kind of yet another retread with only superficially-different elements. I feel like this issue did alot to change that though.
I like the focus on downtime, getting to... actually explore the characters and how they feel, as opposed to the nonstop action - but then this has some fucking killer action scenes too, it's just now a better balance.
Think this might end up being the first Arcee I actually like, this one seems like she might actually have some depth to her, unlike all her prev incarnations, while still being true to the G1 in spirit, unlike TFP or IDW. Poor first impression with Elita tho, like it makes sense she's the leader and all, but don't fuckin talk down to Kup, he's fucking Kup. Bich.
Also sucks that they actually killed/confirmed dead two of my favorite characters here, hope they get revived or something later, bc otherwise damn, would be a wasted opportunity.
But yeah, really like what they're doing with Optimus now. Ppl were really jacking him off before like

while I was just sitting there going "oh boy, the basic original OP again.. but he has Megatron's arm now. That's great, but... [Yawn]". But now they're actually doing something original with him seeming to inheret Sparkplug's memories, that's fucking interesting now, I wanna see where they go with it now! Fuck!
Also got a chuckle at seeing what's up with Wheeljack's legs and Skywarp, lawl.

Oh, and the art by the new guy, Jorge Corona, is SOO much of a fucking bump in quality, holy shit it's good. Retains the stylistic flourishes of DWJ's art, but way more skillful with regards to conveying form and movement.

The first hour of the first movie is a snooze fest about Sam and the first hour of ROTF is Sam at college. Bb isnt even bad by comparison. BB and ROTB are actually much quicker and more entertaining at the human character establishment. BB movie is also has a few legit laughs unlike the rest of the movies.

That's funny. To me, 07 and RotF are the only ones I love, while DotM and Bumblebee I think are neat but moreso respect rather than actively rewatch.
I actually really like the dry, yet raunchy, n really chaotically-paced humor of the human characters (and sometimes Autobots). It's immature and that's exactly why I like it, just heavily depends on your tastes lel.
Also think their special effects, practical and CGI, as well as stunt works + action scenes were at their strongest there. DotM has a lot of these strengths but was too pessimistic and mopey at times, not as fun and "punkrock" as the first two.
Bumblebee movie meanwhile is very good, but a bit too derivative at times. Not of G1 necessarily, just in general of "my 20th century alien BFF" stories; it's ET, it's Iron Giant, it's Herbie, etc. it's still real good and fun! Just not one I actively watch all the time.

Basically yeah lol, I also got that vibe from all the stuntwork. Like, they really tried to do as much of it as feasible in real life just because they wanted to, which I really respect in films like this, Tron Legacy, and a few others. That and them actually trying to make the CG look good :P
With rare exceptions, most modern action films really don't hold a candle; they're just dudes standing in an empty room with everything CGI'd around them, reciting the safest, most stale script imaginable.

Scorponok's character was somewhat inconsistent, in that sometimes he was retarded and other times he wasn't. It think it was in part a symptom of Insecticon being written out of the show, all his lines and characteristics went to other characters..

Just wanna say real quick that I finished Beast Wars Neo just a couple days ago, I thought it was delightful. If you like Car Robots, you'll prolly like Neo, even if you may not enjoy BW II (I didn't).
I liked the setup of going to a new planet every episode, and Big Convoy's characterization as an edgy lone wolf learning to care for his cadets was pretty refreshing and cute. Magmatron mostly sat in a chair but he still managed to have a pretty dominating presence, I liked how he was always pretty calm and level-headed - made it feel like both him and Big were the only two adults in the room, with how the Maximal cadets were kids, and how stupid or crazy the Predacons were lol. Also surprisingly enjoyed D-Navi, she was funny; am now sad a tiny figurine doesn't come with the new Legacy Magmatron (regular Navi was also cute tbdesu) - stark contrast to me hating Artemis in II lol (Moon was chill tho he could hang).
I really hope this means we get more Neo toys in the future, I love most of their designs. Do you think they'd retain the extending claw features somehow on a hypothetical new Longrack or Mach Kick? Like I seriously doubt they'd make a new Heinrad with a working clock (cowards), but the extending scissor arms are p easy gimmicks to engineer I think, no?
Anyway they should make a Core Stampy. Love that lil fagget.

I see plenty of differences here. The Saber arms in plain sight, the lack of the slight upper elbow joint that makes spreading the arms look more natural, the way more apparent big neck, the tiny feet, the squareish shoulder pylons and overall pudginess that removes all dynamism from the design...

I can believe that it is more fun to handle, but I really dislike the Haslab's proportions.

God I love MP-10. It's not perfect, but as far as Prime goes, I really don't expect Hasbro or Takara to ever be at this nexus of good style and pragmatic engineering ever again. Once I get Missing Link in, I'll probably never buy another geewunn Prime.

I love his proportions. They might not be the most sunbow-accurate or whatever, but I think they look good. Your picture makes it kinda clear they evoke the proportions of the original toy quite a bit.

I always hated the super-short torso bullshit the geewunn cartoon standardized.

I'm in a similar position, but I am looking forward to seeing how SS86 Prime looks. I was very happy with ER Prime when it came out, and while I still enjoy that mold, I've never really loved how leggy his proportions were

Sure, but both of those have long forearms. It's charming in the original toy, but MP10 would look way better if they were a bit shorter.

Something I always disliked about that one is the lack of actual neck and how moving the elbow joint makes the upper arm disappear, leaving only shoulderpad and forearm. Also too much diecast on the legs to put it in any meaningful poses for a long time (and it's a shame, because MP01 has more range than MP10 other than the ankles). But for it's time, it was amazing and the gimmicks are fun. It just felt like a Transformer Soul of Chogokin with all those bells and whistles.

Meh. It's really only a noticeable issue if all you do is leave him in a brick pose. Just do literally anything with his arms and the issue kinda vanishes. There was that 3p upgrade kit that gave him shorter forearms, but I legit thought he looked better without it.

I notice them well enough in any pose. They're pretty big too, and aren't even centered with the hands and upper arms due to how they transform. These things don't even bother me that much, but I can still see them as not ideal.
Would rather have more articulation range than smaller forearms, that's for sure. I think that would be way more of an improvement.

Diver is a recolor of a toy that was released in the west (Spittor) who was referenced in later series and got an upgraded form that also was reused for a show character in RiD. Stampy exists alone.

You know, it's funny - even long after it was established that he wasn't going to be on the show, they still went and gave him a TM2 form (and a new name). Never understood that, and I don't think they did that with any other character in the original run.

I'll grant you his mold being used for the CR Predacon goon though, but idk. As someone who didn't grow up during BW, I feel like "got released in the west as a toy-only BW character" is the same level of relevancy as JP-BW characters. Okay, got my SS Primal.. he definitely was not worth the price, but I don't hate him. the scraped paint will take some work to clean up since it's not pure silver. the beast mode legs are so dumb, I have no idea what they thought they were doing, and why they didn't just do like the original toy
the transformation in general is way more complicated than it needs to be since it accomplishes so little. it's like they were reallly reaching to justify the leader price point. the weapons are cool, and the scimitars plug into his back more snugly than any other primal.. but the chain doesn't want to plug together for shit. female end works, male end doesn't play ball. and it doesn't look like it's compatible with any other weapons either, somehow I assumed it would be 5mm so you could give just about anyone a chain.

I don't think there is a causal relation between being a scrapped show character and the existence of Scarem. Cybershark, Iguanus, and Spittor were never planned as show characters and got Transmetal 2 versions and Scarem's bio casts him as made by Megatron's cloning so at best his relationship to Insecticon would be just partial donor instead of same guy.

I'm trying to remember and I think I own seven G1 style Matrixes. The three of each MP Prime, the Missing Link one, two from Kingdom Galvatron and Rodimus, and one from SS86 Hot Rod. Eight if the Lego Optimus one counts.

But I actually have three more: Big Convoy, Galaxy Convoy and Legacy Armada Optimus all have Matrixes, even if they're not the original. And the Super Base Armada Prime also has one, even if it's unremoveable. So I guess I have a dozen unless I'm forgetting something.

Kingdom Rhinox's legs are insanely fiddly with a specific order of operations and a step that requires moving 2 or 3 hidden joints all in the right orientation at the same time to avoid flexing plastic. It's also very unintuitive and the instructions are basically useless. I haven't played with the T30 one in ages but from what I recall it's pretty standard fare, nothing awful.

yeah T30 one is great! His main issues are that it's easy to forget to compress the torso properly (the stock photos sure didn't, making him look too tall), and even if you do, the pelvis tends to swing out loosely on its own, because they didn't really give the legs proper clearance once crunched in..
and of course his guns aren't big enough, but they never are. At least being little but discs allowed them to clip together and store neatly under his grundle.

Finally picked up SS86 Scrapheap with the Target deal. Thought the first two of the mold were enough for me - turns out now I want more. Scrapheap really just feels substantially different
from the initial two. As we get more the more individual they feel. That being said - we are 3/10 on the 86 Junkions - please Hasbro for the love of god put them in multipacks and like a studio series selects at this point. If they weren't itching to shelf warm the reaction would be far better.

My Kingdom Rewind had his elbow socket crack sitting in Blaster's chest. I just pulled him out to check again and one of his knee sockets has cracked, too. He's been a tape sitting in the tape door since I first got the toy.

Studio series was pretty hit or miss in the early days and some of the tolerances on smaller parts were off to the point where they will pop off at a gentle breeze, but it was clear by the hits that it was going to be a great line. Honestly I don't see why anyone gets excited for Masterpiece figures when Studio Series exists, it delivers great figures, at a reasonable price that look good in both modes without having to resort to ridiculous levels of panel folding to make the modes work.

I bought that guy lately and I've been meaning to post a mini-blog about him, but I've also been super lazy and don't give much of a fuck about anything anymore.

It's a brilliant little toy, though; arguably perfect. I love the feet-seats. It's rare that anything captures the pure, simple, immediate joy of transformation as well some of those Universe legends did. Both the tank and gun Megatron from that line are GOAT, too.

Sideburn(and most of the Car robots designs) felt like the last time they were designing Transformers as contemporary with Japanese mecha designs. Some of the UT too, but for the most part we've been stuck rehashing 80's stuff, or ugly ass American mecha designs.

For any economical issues 3rd world places(outside of like, Africa), food cost isn't really one of them. In a lot of the 3rd world food is so cheap that you can eat out regularly for dirt cheap even by the country's standards.
Relatively speaking, the cost of food is probably worse in the US for how much average people make.
The problem with most 3rd world nations is more the lack of upwards mobility and ability to really expand real estate people live in than starving.

I used to draw for living fren, had to take another direction as make a living out of drawing here wasn't easy at all and working online means (on my experience), deal with shitty people that doesn't want to actually hire someone but instead getting an slave to do something fast and cheap plus there's places with more desesperate artists, lower income than here that takes those jobs. If you live in the US i would encourage you to keep strong, even if there's bad times, the place seems to be solid for people with strength and courage. I travel there once or twice a year and even if i've seen a lot of homeless and other shit spawning en-masse druing the years, there's also a lot of working people and families doing well, it's an awesome place.

Not to mention, all 3 seem to suffer from breakage issues, and you can't do much to fix them:

-Weird wolf had the breaking cockpit hatch.
-Mindwipe's transforming wings break. You can mitigate it by shaving off some of the bumps near the hinges and by never transforming the wing tips.
-Skullcruncher jaw plastic seems to weaken due to contact with rubber plastic, eventually causing it to snap. This seems rare compared to the other two, but it can still happen.

Oh yeah, make sure the rubber doesn't make prolonged contact with paint or other plastics or they might strip the paint or melt plastic. So that means leaving skullcruncher's animal head open and mindwipe pretty much in robot mode at all times since the tiny wings will fuck up the torso in bat mode.

No idea, I only know they gutted the knee ratchets after the original fucked it up, but it made them worse in exchange or something. Black Convoy lacked most of the ridiculous amount of paint, so you can avoid the tolerance and paint chipping issues. No idea if toy colors is as good as Black Convoy.

honestly I don't mind that they stopped doing the stupid extra vehicle modes, it's almost hilarious how several TM2s have what looks like remnants of one, or a mutated version of one (Spittor's random as fuck shoulder claw, Megatron's feet wheels, cheetor's forearm shield and the booster on his back) but really that's better. I'd rather have a robot animal that just.. all-the-time has jets or rotors or wheels, since it's already a twisted bizarre metal animal, it's not like we're losing the disguise aspect.
my issue with TM2s is they started getting a bit TOO messy, and had wayyy too lazy transformations. Or in the case of Optimus Minor, an extremely involved transformation that accomplishes butt.

The vehicle modes were more like the G1 extra modes like Track's flight mode than actual tripple changers. Personally thought they were a lot of fun, especially as a kid. It's not "realistic" but it adds to the play factor of having parts fold in and out.

I might be in minority on this one, but I actually prefer that the price points are (at least supposed to be) reflective of complexity and parts count while actual scale is preserved over the whole line. That is the one thing that has always driven me up the wall about collecting Transformers is that characters don't match up to their show sizes.
That being said Hasbro are still over-charging for what we're getting. Sick of having to pay 100 bucks AUS for voyager class size figures and 170 for commanders. Hell I remember during the ROTF and Reveal the Shield/Hunt for the Decepticon days I could pick up a legends class for 7 bucks and scout class for 14, and now core class figures which are the same size and complexity as scouts are 25.

They made a particular guy, then did a non-retool retool to modify his transformation so he could be a different guy on the same mold without being a clone, and then someone went "oh hey what if we made one that can use BOTH robot modes, and make it punch/counterpunch?" and they did that.. and then they still rereleased that mold twice more as non-two-guys-guys?

Yeah the clear plastic unnerves me too, as well as being very annoyed by his shoulder engineering (i just find it weird).
But then, I also just think in a vacuum that he's... really ugly. His head's somehow more proportionally-exaggerated than the actual show character model, he's got those super bulky lower legs but with the teeny-tiny feet, and aw man his car, his poor car... the gigantic hinges and hexagon ports protruding out from the sides are extremely noticeable, and something about the front of the car also seems just really off to me.
This isn't even a "boo they should've done show-accuracy" thing, I just genuinely think the toy looks ugly in a vacuum, I'm sorry.
I will say though thank you for responding in a calm and constructive manner, despite my own strong emotions on the subject. Like I genuinely appreciate that. I dunno, I guess I'm more passionate about it bc Optimus and Bumblebee were my two most-looked-forward-to figures of this year, and they both kinda really let me down in different ways - so I feel more personal about it.

TR had the excuse of reusing the Scourge inner frame. Had they made a new one those proportions would fall in line closer to other fembots in that period. Cyberverse Windblade was mostly the G1 version with some extra neon blue paint, there really wasn't much to change for a more G1 inspired legacy version, and even the shoe model gave her an ample bust like the RID version. The new version just gives her this v shape torso that looks closer to a male bots, her hips feel too slender, her abdomen is too detailed and they gave her these defined lines near the corners of her mouth instead of painting them on so she just looks old. There's also the lack of paint and the garbage underside of her wings.

Things have been getting better for Transformers and Hasbro in general. Two stores is Aus JB Hi-Fi (they sell movies, music, games, televisions, tech, and white goods) have been expanding into general pop-culture stuff and have been getting a lot of the Legacy and Studio series stuff except the exclusives, also Zing (the strictly pop-culture focused arm of EB Games) gets stuff in (including Haslab sometimes), which makes life a lot easier. Used to be toy stores would get in every second or third wave, if at all, and you'd hope there would be enough that you'd find one still on shelves, otherwise it was eBay for you.
