It seems like the changes are to look more like the show model, with the major exception being the crotch area (Is it recycled parts from someone else?). Almost surprised they didn't turn down the saturation of his blue to look like that as well. Also his arm car panels are two separate pieces with the translucent windows screwed into the opaque doors instead of just being painted on the side.

In fairness his team did lead Kingdom n early Legacy, and the PWT thru WFCT did include a lot of deep cuts and good figures (when budget was there lol); but then again they were also responsible for some of Legacy's worst figs, like LegArcee, and a lot of really stupid forced line-wide gimmicks, which we only just barely got to finally buck in late-Evolution and United.
Honestly you'd have to be retarded not to see the things modern Legacy is doing well in comparison to what came before, so well, I hope Warden and his team aren't retarded..

They almost certainly used Cybertron guys because Classics Starscream and Bumblebee were used the year before, but for some reason the remakes that use more typical bodies for G1y guys seem odd. Maybe it is the color distribution.

But Combiners could be a good change up since we got that Menasor and he wasn't so bad
As usual tho the "good" versions are fucking Pulse only so guaranteed they'll be harder to get, rarely stocked and never fucking hit a sale

I think UW was the good side.
Great painted parts and felt good in hand
The 3P Hands/Feet sets just made me so much better
But Legacy Motormaster? Loved him as a stand alone
When I saw the Trailer is a fucking Exo-Skeleton you just slap the stunticons on, let alone 2 of them aren't even visible I knew it was cooked and burnt
Fucking atrocious shit. Absolutely hated it
Then his arms flake cause it's painted white? and half the Stunticons had issues like Wildrider/Dead End having weird hinges for Hood, Dead End's Trunk is fucky on majority of them and Breakdown just incorrect car and detailing.

Oh but the "Fixed" Toy Versions are the correct versions but they're a Pulse only

I 100% feel the CW Menasor is far superior to the Legacy release. For one, it's an actual combiner and can't form a giant robot without other smaller robots. Now that's not saying I think the CW one is even all that good, it's just that the Legacy one is disappointing in just about every way.

If they came out with a newer, better version of him today, I wouldn't complain at all.

If they just used the extra trailer bits to beef up this mode, I would've enjoyed it more. Not so much as Menasor, but at least as a "Super mode" for Motormaster. But they purposely half assed this mode to force you to buy the rest of the team, even though they're actually not needed.

If they do end up making more Legacy combiners, I really hope they don't repeat this awful system. Make em actual combiners, we have the tech, and the CW joint system really does work *very* well. Just make the torso a really nice leader and put some effort into Deluxe limbs and we'll get a great combiner.

If it was just an extra that had a little thought put into it and didn't affect any other mode like in the original toy, sure. But it went from being silly in the original to being a fucking mess in the Legacy one. Ugly ass tabs in Landsaurus tail and the way Seasaurus opens up for combination is totally an afterthought compared to how clean it was in the original.

Yeah, no. That thing was an absolute piece of shit with terrible proportions, ugly individual robots and bad engineering.

You people are so hung up on "what a REAL combiner should be" that you will take anything if that single condition is fulfilled disregarding everything else.
Combiner wars toys were wonky and not specially solid, the gun hands and feet looked like shit and forced you to buy addons, the thighs as elbows were ugly and some of the individual robots arms being in plain sight in the combiner mode was a joke.
I never bought a single one of them but I bought the new Menasor nonetheless. I don't care if it transforms in a different way, it suits Menasor and Motormaster's engineering is still pretty clever. And the end result is a truly solid and fun to pose combiner.
It's a shame that there's people who can't enjoy it due to how it combines, because I really think you're missing out.

Not that I remember. Bw megatron wasn't super big in robot mode, it was his dragon that was huge, and thats because of the way he transformed. Idw magmatron on the other hand, was huge, like bigger than grimlock was if I recall.

As someone who liked the Scramble City play pattern, no, Legacy is better. CW Motormaster was the worst of the CW style torsos until Grimlock and Menasor was shit purely because of Motormaster. Legacy Menasor has flaws and I'd like it if they could scramble combine, but he looks better and is much more stable than the CW version. CW Motormaster sucking is the reason why Menasor had to be done first, the other CW combiners hold up, he doesn't.

Oh I gotcha. I guess mine has that but I fixed it by plugging in one of the guns into each of the holes and spinning them to clear out any excess and it works fine now. Literally the only figure of the set that has a problem is Deadend(?) where he plugs into the arm too softly so basically half his body falls off the arm if you tap it lightly.

Honestly, I thing an Eggman robo would be the best way to go with this. well of course a chimaera CAN be cool, but traditionaly it doesn't have that many extra body parts. it's not supposed to look like three separate bodies conjoined. I know their goal was 'hey we have four limbs and wings, we could make this a dragon' but it really didn't work.

I'm not sure how he'd stack up against magmatron, you'd have to show me some anime screenshots with other guys who have definite scale with known beast wars guys. but he is supposed to be way bigger than regular megatron and tm1 megatron. so they fucked that up.

I transformed mine many times to count and didn't break anything. Only minor stress marks on Wildrider that I could have prevented by sanding if I wanted to, but it's a complete non-issue so I didn't give a shit. In fact, the stress marks nonsense happens in plenty of modern transformers so it's not like it's something you can use to shit on Menasor. If anything, shit on Hasbro as a whole.

Legacy Menasor is still better that the pile of crap that was the combiner wars one, by the way. A couple of stress marks on the new one don't change how utter shit that one was.

Worse case it's 1 for 1 SS86 Percey and with Rumble & Frenzy reenacting the "crack the shell" scene

I kind of prefer the combiner was figures purely because they were more fun and playable, plus you can customise a combiner. The new style is a bit lame because it feels like they are putting aesthetics over play features

Are the new Generations versions that much of an improvement? I ask because a lot of those figures from Energon and Cybertron had pretty decent articulation. Hell, CHUD was repainting a lot of molds as additional Universe guys. I can't but think it would be easier to simply track down the old figures as a lot of the new versions can't even include all the features (minicons, cyber keys)

The wings on the back look mistransformed, or could at least be positioned better. I'm not particularly impressed with it, as a huge Cybertron Vector Prime fan. The round thighs don't look right, among other things, but I do like the key on the sword. The lack of Safeguard is dumb, as with the rest of all these figures missing mini-cons. I'd like to see more of him in non-render form, but I'll probably get him just because I like the character, and the added articulation should be fun.

I've owned a lot of Armada figures and it's been nice to get some decently articulated figures of those designs, despite Starscream and Hot Shot not exactly being great. I appreciate the more dynamic proportions too. As far as UT as a whole is concerned I personally don't really care a whole lot about the absence of cyber planet keys and their accompanying gimmicks. Minicons would certainly be nice but the smaller scale of the toys in general makes me miss them a bit less. The old toys are charming in their own right and there's something to be said for a lot of those Cybertron and UT figures in general that you can satisfyingly transform into their chunky alt modes in like 10 seconds with their big clicky joints.

I wouldn't really call them improvements since they're trying to achieve different things than the old toys were. I'm sure a lot of those old toys are worth hunting down if you think they look cool. A lot of the post Armada UT stuff does have fair amounts of articulation, but they can't really emote like a lot of the newer stuff can. They just end up looking kind of awkward when you try to stick them in a cool pose. Of course some old toys like Master Megatron still had almost everything you'd want articulation-wise and it's hard to imagine a newer figure being able to outdo them in any respect within the constrains of a modern toy budget.

That Jhiaxus mold really does strike a handsome robot silhouette but man he could really have done with bigger shoulder pads and wing thingies. At least he doesn't have half of his altmode hanging off his back I guess.

Well I had the original Vector Prime toy and I remember it looked amazing but was a brick and had a huge fucking stick coming out of his back. The new jet looks worse and the cape looks worse but the Robot mode will clearly be a better toy so I don't know what to tell ya

How was it a brick? It can kick to almost 90, arms move any which way, laterally to 90, elbows 90, has wrists or forearms, can't recall, head can twist, knees work fine. Only think lacking could be something like waist and ankle rockers, but neither of these were common at almost any point except recently.

Credit where its due, the idea to use Jhiaxus as a base is sound but it needed to be a full retool and not a partial. Lacking the forearm sculpt is bad enough but the completely unaltered legs ruin the whole thing. I'm willing to bet whoever designed this wanted new legs but John Hasbro looked at Vector Prime and his sculpted mechanical detail, then at Jhiaxus' sculpted cables and said "Fuck it, close enough."

The lack of forearm 'guards', and the laser gun-like toes, and smaller shoulder pads are probably the weakest parts of this design. I am warming up to the look though, I guess. I wouldn't have a huge issue with the exposed wires if there was more of that 'damaged' detailing, but the rest of the design is so clean it makes it looks pretty out of place.

I think Armada Starscream is just ok but he was universally shit on here when he came out. He could certainly be worse but i think a lot of the hate is justified. He really suffers from a lack of paint imo and he has some of the worst weapons I can think of in recent memory. The wing blade is pathetic and the Star Saber is waaaay too tiny unless you give it to Hot Shot. I've heard a lot of people have had qc issues with his shoulder assembly as well. Cybertron Starscream feels like a much more solid figure, especially for the price. I am really fond of his Armada design, though

I just think the alt mode is a bit shit. It was shit in 2005 and it's still shit. It's far from robot-yoga-tier, and the original Supreme class toy has its charms, but much like Armada Megatron the whole thing just feels anemic to me without all the features. Armada Starscream at his core is still a cool looking robot that turns into a neat enough jet, and the Legacy one captures that just fine.

I mean, I don't hate it. The shoulder pauldrons are a bit small, he could've used his old wrist armor, and those connectors from Jhiaxus' legwings are blatantly visible (plus he's missing Safeguard), but otherwise it's a fairly good rendition of his robot mode; I like that he doesn't have what is more or less his entire alt mode hanging off his back like the old Voyager did, and he's got a far more satisfying transformation.
On the other hand, that alt mode is looking a bit rough. The solar panel wings look too small, and the nosecone looks a bit stumpy. He's also got the same issue I had with Jhiaxus (obviously) in that his robot arms just kinda hang there on the bottom; yeah, his legs did that before on the original, but at least they took up the entire backside of the ship mode instead of just being a random bulge in the middle that broke up the entire silhouette. I also wish he had a little clear piece in the slot at the tip of his nosecone to resemble his old missile - the ship just looks off without it.
Still, I think he's a decent enough looking upgrade, particularly the robot mode, so I'll probably get him at some point.

I mean yer allowed to like whatcha like and all that, he's half-decent. But he's definitely no upgrade pver the original voyager, if anything I'd argue he's slightly worse, and when the TFA figures' engineering was already so basic I feel like that's the biggest sin for it. Putting aside my distaste for the G1 details and panel-lining, why the hell does it take from the original TFA Deluxe's transformation? That thing was terrible and over-designed, all because they wanted to include an automorph gimmick that they gave up on halfway in (swinging the axe over his head during transformation, which's not possible on the final toy) - and it results in the robot mode's proportions being ass, with the abdomen being swallowed up by the chest... something the Legacy figure also suffers from. Seriously, his body goes inmediately from chest to hips, it's ugly, man.
Tl;dr as someone who still owns his old figures, the Legacy ones just all feel like low-rent knockoffs made by people who don't actually care for these designs or characters, and are just blindly trying to replicate the originals after 10 seconds of research. Like what happened/is happening with Car Robots...

I do too, though it's kind of odd to me in that it doesn't feel like a real CHUGified Animated Optimus, but at the same time it's not accurate to the show in the way the old toys were either. For my tastes it doesn't go far enough in the CHUG direction. It's still a good figure though, aside from getting the truck cab lined up being an occasional hassle.

In fairness Armada didn't start out so faithfully, Hot Shot notably has very G1 square shoulders for some reason and Starscream straight-up has the same head as his T30 figure; it seems like it was a very last-second shift.

And yeah for all my complaining about the G1ification, I'd rather they leaned in harder on it if it were clear they wouldn't be able to do the accurate designs justice. I dislike Legacy TFA Prowl cuz the bike mode is just terrible unlike the og, but from an artstyle standpoint? Yeah, I can appreciate his bot mode, as like a fun what-if. If there's somebody into the TFP Cliffjumper in that 3pack or the TFP Skyquake or Thundertron over the originals, like, I could understand it yeah.
Meanwhile we have Legacy TFA Bumblebee who's just Animated but several degrees uglier and more deformed, and TFA Prime who's a more polished version of an imo flawed-at-conception old Deluxe.

Car Robots was never going to translate well to modern Transformers. Even the Haslab Ultra Magnus just looks off. I kind of want the new Sideburn for nostalgia's sake but I know that mold isn't great and it's the little details that make the original cool to look at. The vehicle mode is fucking pathetic in comparison.

They could have done an RID Combiner Wars wave instead of a second G1 carbots. X-Brawn from Offroad, Prowl from Breakdown retooled to have lights and Side-Burn from Dead End. The fourth limb could be Skidz from Drag Strip or something. Torso is retooled Hot Spot.

The tiny hands suck, but has so many pros (price, deco, scale, add on kit included) the small hands are easy to ignore. They're also easy to swap, they used screws instead of pins, so if you have acces to gundam kit hands or a 3d printer you can fix it in minutes.

Because he wasn't that hard to find and was at clearance stores last November/December as well as that two-pack special with Jazz. I don't think it would be that hard, you could easily copy the transformation pattern of the original toy right? Anyways, I'm disappointed they didn't show him firing his projectiles or driving around in tank mode. Working treads is exciting to me. I assule that his tank turret doesn't rotate though, which is a bummer. The function of serving as an RC tank AND a robot would be awesome.

I like the backpack treads on the CW leader since you can adjust them how you want. My ideal Megatron is the old gun, but articulation issues aside the CW leader is about what I want from a tank G1 Megatron. Robosen is whatever, but I like the base design.

It doesn’t IMO; it’s a chonky rhino that opens up into some kind of cool samurai general with a nicely-integrated sword and a really fun spinning weapon that you put together from bits neatly stashed throughout the figure (none of which need to be removed for robot mode)
Also, the Fox Kids version is an awesome Player 2 colour scheme that’s been criminally unrevisited.

Downshift is cool because his alt mode is stellar. There's zero chance a new Downshift would be anywhere near as good. There's only so much ankle tilt delivers.

Cybertron Starscream always had a somewhat turd vehicle mode, so it was perfect for Legacy. For Downshift it would be a lot lost for little gained, I suspect. I feel this way about a lot of updates or suggested updates.

I am pretty sure I did say that I didn't like the insecticons in the first place
or any of the original g1 toys. they were amazing for their day, but that means nothing now
I do like the insecticons as little sentai vehicles, but not as characters and the robots don't work for me.

it was very obvious they originally planned on the forarms being the red arms on the original, with the guantlets plugging into the ports that are right on the back.
A lot of the arm tooling on jhiaxus matches vector's original toy
I wonder if it was originally planned as a leader class, and then everything got juggled around when netflix didn't pick up legacy for streaming.
I mean, legacy's 2nd year had an extremely LIGHT number of new molds for it's voyagers/leaders
first year had a total of 7
Year 2 had only FOUR and only one of those was a leader
Year 3 is up to 6

So yeah, I'm guessing vector prime was originally planned as a leader for year 2, but when shit went south, he got downgraded, and both him and jhiaxus suffered by losing parts. Hell, I had been suspicious of that from the beggining, because Jhiaxus was bigger than just about every leader class in the whole line except galvatron.
I'm betting the hips transformed differently in the original to let the legs sit under correctly too, to let jhiaxus have a better alt mode.

It's united galvatron all over again I bet

When I was a kid, my father once lost his temper and threw my Optimal Optimus across the driveway into a brick wall and it survived without a scratch and I still have it to this day in great condition (batteries were even still working up until a couple years ago when I took them out to be safe). So he's durable as fuck.

Do it. Absolutely worth it. I got my hands on the mold for the first time just a few years ago and it's charming as fuck with wonderful, chunky plastic and a solid feel that has been absent from Transformers for a long time since. The fact that he has so much of his own style and personality is a big part of what helps him hold up. Unlike modern bots, he's not just a placeholder for the next, more accurate attempt; Classics Optimus is Classics Optimus.

I wouldn't mind this, but I think it's one of those cases where an update would be somewhat doomed to failure, because all the things that made Classics Optimus good are things that Hasbro has profit-margined out of existence. Now that I finally have Legacy Silverbolt in hand, I gotta say this figure feels kind of like a lateral move, while it's certainly not a downgrade, it's not a massive improvement over the original aside from the robot arms and wing placement.
Though given that I still have my original in really good condition, and I think the beast mode is better than the new figure (the wolf head is far more show accurate) this means I can happily display both in different modes.
All that said I wouldn't mind a DNA upgrade kit to make bigger wings for the Legacy figure, but that might be asking too much.

I think combiners were cool when the individual robots were more simple. The problem is that they haven't been done right since. CW molds were too cheap, the premium attempt with the trainbots was undercut by accuracy autism, and the recent Menasor isn't even a proper combiner.

The problem is getting a good core/torso bot and trying to avoid dedicated partsforming parts, CW Superion and Computron are really good out of the box, but the 3p chest parts make them look great.

CW Defensor, Bruticus and Menasor didn't got good torsos, the truck molds were designed to be bricks in combined mode, their hip joints are too high and too weak.

His snout is pretty blocky in the show, if anything the new botmode head needs a stronger chin. It probably would have been better if they'd sculpted a smirk on his face or something.
I just think it's so odd that they completely reworked his transformation when not only was the original perfectly good (maybe a couple tweaks on the robot arms to add some swivels) and also accurate to the show because it was based on the toy. Hell the little copper flap under his botmode head was included as an actual function in the show.

I can think of five decos off the top of my head that are actually different (Optimus, Magnus, Fire Guts, SG, Nemesis)
But he probably got like 20 repaints that are just Optimus but slightly different

Yeah, it's basically just those plus Magna Convoy, which makes 6. Everything else is just a Prime variant, with Nemesis and Magnus variants from Takara.

Huh, neat. Which ones are your favorites? I'm saving up for a Classics Optimus atm, just bought a bunch of toys already so I'm waiting lol. Plus even the normal one's surprisingly steep on ebay, nowadays.

I'm still coping that the upcoming Deluxe Optimus will just be Hero Prime, he would be perfect as a Deluxe with accessories. The ROTB chainsaw Optimus convinced me that I want more small Optimuses.

Well, I love Magna Convoy to bits. Blue/silver/black is just a brilliant color scheme on him. I'm a bit of a sucker for Fire Guts too because I love orange.

Probably why I never forget Magna. Also because I paid like a hundred bucks for him. I actually am quite familiar with Fire Guts because I had only been collecting for a few years when he came out and I really wanted him but couldn't justify the cost at the time. A bright orange Optimus Prime just seemed too fuckin' cool. And the sick purple Autobot knight emblem on his roof-shield is still like the greatest thing ever.

Every single time a small studio grows, the same thing happens. It gets it's fame for having a very clear and distinct style but then is neutered and standarized to reach to the masses. Give it enough time and I can see some of the dissatisfied employers founding a new studio yet again.

I remember the panel you're talking about, but I've never actually tried it, lol. If I had to guess, it probably involves hanging Convoy off of the Magnus Armor by the multi-jointed shield port on his back and just wrapping his legs wherever. So mostly gravity.

Aaaaaand I've just done the same thing. I didn't even notice they were there until I felt it snap. Shaved the excess off and sanded it flush, wouldn't even know it was there.

You're not wrong, I personally don't mind the blockiness but like I said it could definitely use more personality. Also the head may as well just be on a regular swivel for how limited the range of motion is. It's also crazy tight, I added in some silicone oil to lube it up and it's still tight as shit.

I came so close to buying this one relatively affordable 3p version, only to finally take a good look at it and realize i hate the shoulders
then i found a much better 3p used with a slight break that doesn't matter (legs don't clip together in vehicle modes)

Weird how both Hasbro and Takara went with original decos for their Broadsides, I got lucky and found a cheap lg to mix with the tr version to get soething close to the original deco.
