Am I wrong in thinking this is drawing a parallel in visual style to classic space? The big moulded form pieces that define the shapes of the build. The difference is they're round and gay. Also the color palette is very unique and fits together surprisingly well. I would not have expected coral to appear here.

Concept art its when designers run wild. just look at knights kingdom 2 art, before the budget ones in, oh this set needs to be in 6+ range not 9+, so you cant make it too detailed, it needs x amount of pieces and x amount of new molds/prints are allowed. Etc etc

This is why Lego is so cursed. Expressive characters are stuck as minifigs, then actual sets are glutted with extra parts. Look at that T-rex, I imagine you could just build a simple car and add eyes to form the head. But no, Lego sells that you add more stuff just because.

Speaking of Monkie Kid I bought the lion guardian set a few days ago to dip my toes into the series and so far I like it.

Think immaculate fiddle with the Queens spider mech to try and give it some better legs that can hold up her weight this weekend.

I have to agree. Monkie Kid is falling in the same trap, especially with thr new Mechs. They're just so over detailed and busy that it makes the design seem like an awkward cluster fuck if random pieces.

Just order from PAB. It will be more cost effective than anything else since they're actually cheaper there than on bricklink and no set contains a number of them great enough to justify purchasing just for them. The ideas treehouse would be the closest since it includes a ton of green as well as brown/orange for the autumn color swap, but I don't think any of the sand green in your pictures.

Lego sets a 18 month rotation on set development and snoozzzzz is hitting the year mark now. It’s got six months to turn it around which is why we’re seeing them try to milk the chink market and try to make it profitable. The show sucks. The sets suck. The whole thing is a flop and it’s hilarious how much it’s getting plugged even on a mongolian furniture polish forum.

I think the issue is just how damn expensive the sets get, I see that little lego space mech with the hammer getting sold out so fast, meanwhile the larger sets remain unsold until there is a clearance.

instead they try to cram like 10 ideas in a single set and you end up with something overdesigned, and overpriced.

The sets are overpriced and absolutely unplayable as designed. The stupid noodle arms and round faces are garbage and fall apart. All the minifigs are available on pab just go snatch up what you want now then pick the sets up on clearance in a few months. The second season is gonna bomb the next round will not set because it’ll be priced way out of range of kids sets and afouls aren’t buying enough to justify it. They’re trying to milk the chink market and we’ll probably see a third round but that shit won’t sell there either and it doesn’t matter how many red pandas or nigger pandas they shove in shit.

Source was a 2017 article from when Lego cut staff and budgets and shifted market focus. They realized that marketing towards kids doesn’t work anymore mostly because of botched in house product lines. Being 18 months behind trends and not being able to shift any more products into the saturated European and North American markets. So they redshifted focus into afol sets, charging more for less, lower quality standards, charge more for license slop, and trying to expand into Asia.

When lego started in on license slop it was the beginning of the end of classic lego. Most license sets and most afol sets are contrary to the idea. Instead of encouraging creativity and taking apart a model they now encourage you to follow the instructions exactly and display them. Additionally in an attempt to make more money Lego further strayed from “only the best is good enough” to “brittle brown? Fuck too we’ll put cracked torsos on our promotional materials and you’ll buy it anyway!” The lg is like any successful company they’re going to do what makes them the most money for the least cost. They don’t care what you think and they don’t care if they ruin their own legacy if it means shipping more units and paying less to do so.

It's a good set with a lot of nice builds and parts. Great place to start with Monkie Kid.
Get the Combi mech and the jet that goes with it next, they're cheap but are solid builds together.
I bought the dragster with the demon brothers a while back, still debating if I want to open that sucker or if I'll sit on it a while. I want to get other sets but it's hard to figure which MK sets are really worth the builds.

I love Lego for my kids, but hate their business model. I want to buy themed boxes where my kids can make a bunch of stuff built around Lego space or Lego medieval, or Lego novels ninjago.

I don’t like buying a box that has 1 thing and normal boxes of legos look aesthetically different.

Best set structure for families-

Minecraft proves to be the best theme

Right now I want to rethink what lines I want to buy. I got Sora s mech from Ninjago.

Life on Mars had a diet version of this.

Several of the sets (any of the mechs basically) had interchangeable components and you could create a variety of stuff with some basic components. I believe you could even attach parts of the human shuttle to the martian tech.

I should know I have the entire theme. I should go check.

Then of course you had a couple main set pieces.

Life on Mars is still my favorite theme of all time.

I think the City Space stuff is selling well. It seems to be moving at a good pace when I check at stores. I hope it keeps going. I really like the design of the vehicles and the spacesuits. The little aliens are fun too. I was really hoping the City Advent Calendar would be space themed this year. Maybe a few micro builds of the ships, a few aliens, some space figs, and all set on a backdrop of celebrating Christmas while on an alien world.
But I would be happy if the space theme keeps going in some degree or another into next year.

The war chests were fucking great. Three minifigs, a piece of terrain, an assortment of weapons, and the packaging was a reusable tin. That's all you needed. Buy two and you were set. Throw in a ten dollar dragon egg, and bam. Lego needs to bring back impulse sub ten dollar sets (not polybags, actual boxes) as well as like ten dollar battle packs with bare minimum in the outside builds to keep the price down while maximizing the amount of guys you get.

They started developing Ninjago to counterattack it, atleasta according to those who worked on Ninjago. Since the earliest elements of Ninjago started with Lego Spirit Defenders.

Next year is supposed to be an (25th?) anniversary for TLW so it's an easy enough of a excuse.
As far as the movies go TLW is probably the one the lends itself best to being lego sets, almost every memorable set piece could work as a set.

Question for you guys. I built Luke Skywalker's X-Wing with someone last night. It came together great, but the mechanism that makes the wings go up and down feels tight and I feel the wings don't go out as much as they should. Did we mess up that part? Thanks for the compliment. I'm assuming it's just 6 or 7 anons here that post actual Lego stuff. Everyone else just complains and trolls. I'm not thr guy who has the base plates. I used to only post mechs, but I recently started doing vehicle MOCs.

It's really just one or two guys who get upset about it. It doesn't bother me at all. It's funny because my kids actually do build MOCs with me. Pic related are a couple they helped me with. My oldest daughter helped me with the tread portion for the one on the right, my youngest helped me build the one in the middle because she likes Nya, and my oldest built the one on the right and gave it to me for father's day one year.

I find the exaggerated inflections he uses to be very fake and a bit of a turn off, but I appreciate that he puts time into doing what he does and the guy hs been super cool when I've shot him messages on Instagram. He's a super nice dude and I am grateful for him.

I almost only buy polybags, admittedly sometimes just as a quick parts boost for whatever I'm building. Sometimes also, because they're quick and easy access to brand new moulds.

Because I got the airplane that came out last year and one of the groundcrew has a hearing aid. There's no way any respectable airline would allow a deaf woman to wonder onto the runway because she couldn't hear the plane approaching so she gets blended by the engines. Besides, Tiny Turbos back then were always 5 bucks, even 6 at the end of it's run. The speed champions bags are only 4 bucks, eventhough they're licensed. Sure, they don't come with a cool box, but they are a little bigger and have at least as many parts as back in the day.
So in my eyes, Tiny Turbos have been stable through inflation lol.

The downs girl is unironically the cutest one with (as another anon pointed out) the biggest tits of the bunch. There was no effort to even make her look disabled. Her eyes should be lower and her chin should be rounder and shorter. But that would require actual effort and remolding, so instead they're just saying "She's disabled because we say so" for those ESG points.
