The original Redeemer was a former asshole teenage delinquent who found Christ in juvie lockup and became a born again Christian who worked at a soup kitchen and training to become a minister. He was purple/gold and only appeared once, mainly to promote his action figure (as Todd created a TON of Spawn villains for the 90s toy line but only used a bare handful of them in the comics and only once.
The current Redeemer is the gold/blue version, who also has wings that the original version didn't. I don't recall the new one's backstory except that he's now an ally of Spawn due to how Todd writes Heaven as being just as evil as Hell/Satan.
IIRC the silver/black version is just Todd repainting an existing figure as a chase figure for his fanboys to hunt for at stores.
