I'm going to be moving here in the near future to a new house. I have a pretty large toy collection, several hundred figures at this point, I've been collecting for over 10 years. Some are boxed up in tubs, but the vast majority of them are on display. I've moved with my collection once before but it was so much smaller back then, the whole thing fit in like two boxes. I have since added a bunch of imports since then, I kept all the import boxes with the express purpose of moving. I plan to repack just the figures themselves in their boxes, the accessories are all sorted already, and then plan to just box up my domestic figures in a big box or two. Should put them in baggies first?
What about my detolfs? I have two of them. Should I completely disassemble them? I read that people have gotten away with taking out the shelves and wrapping and boxing those up, and then loading the empty detolf with pillows and blankets for support and that works. I'm not sure about that though. I don't know how far the drive from one home to the next will be yet, but I do plan on getting movers this time around. My friends are getting too old to be able to help me move some of my bigger furniture so I need to go with the movers route.
Tell me your stories of moving with a large toy collection, give out advice.
