The tradeoff in durability was deemed worthwhile, and it probably will be-how many people do you think are really going to keep these for another 20 years?
If we're being honest, the nostalgia mining bubble is about to burst, and I think we're due for a huge Beanie Babies-style dump in a few years. People will move on to other shit, realize their homes are full of gaudy plastic crap, and it will get donated or trashed.
