With the Indirect Combat Roles Groupbuild coming to a close, it's time to post the entries!

The Zaku III FZ Reconnaissance Type was a odd one-off MS manufactured by the defense forces of a Frontier Colony around UC 115. It proved a competent recon machine, equipped with a data pod launcher adapted from a Stark Jegan, and a set of sub-arms. It's equipped a claw on the right and radome on the left. Its only armaments were a set of smoke grenades, a 120mm Zaku Machinegun Kai, and a beam saber.

A custom Dahgi Iris, further modified for long range point recon. Compared to the Dahgi Iris, the Dahgi Iris Kai has a modified beam rifle that functions as a high gain Yagi antenna. This allows the mobile suit to monitor specific long range targets from well outside of enemy sensor range, in addition to the normal suite of surveillance equipment standard to the Dahgi Iris. In order to not disrupt the sensitive electronics in the antenna rifle, the Iris Kai forgoes the standard beam saber in favour of a heat sword, much like how the base mobile suit opts for a physical shield rather than a beam shield. This particular mobile suit is piloted by Dorel Ronah, who had the suit painted in a style reminiscent of the Sleeves mobile suits due to rumours that he was of some relation to Full Frontal’s right hand man, Lieutenant Angelo Sauper. Whether this is true or not, the dark coloration with white highlights helps the Iris Kai blend in with the surrounding background of void and stars, aiding in its surveillance and reconnaissance operations.

Meant for escorting convoys containing high-ranking EFF personnel or confidential technology/information, the Jegan ECOAS Man Hunter works in conjunction with other ECOAS units to provide defensive support from infantry. Equipped solely with a riot shield and a waist-mounted machine gun, the Jegan Man Hunters used by ECOAS found themselves unpopular with pilots who requested to at least have a beam saber or some sort of anti-MS weapon on standby in case of enemy ambushes. Despite the complaints, the unit was phased out of ECOAS shortly before UC 100 and sent to other EFF deployment zones instead.

The Beguir-G[/] is the prototype of the Beguir series produced by Grasley Defense Systems, and was originally developed to be GUND format compatible. The first unit of the series, the CEK-X-023-1 Beguir-Gundam, was tested using stolen Vanadis data, and used an early version of the GUND format for Mobile Suits. However, in its first test run, the GUND format went out of control and crippled its test pilot when it reached Permet score 4. The pilot later died in the hospital. The incident greatly affected the Grasley president, Sarius Zenelli, and he immediately ordered all GUND-related development to stop, and to make it classified. Afterwards, Grasley developed the Antidote system from data collected from the incident, and started the Anti-Gundam Technology Program. Using the second unit from the Beguir series as a testbed, the CEK-X-023-2 Beguir-G[orgon] was equipped with an EWAC pack to test the unit's performance without the GUND format, with two purposes, to trick Grasley’s competitor into believing they are testing a support unit, and more importantly, to hide the Antidote system and collect data on its usage. As a side effect of using technology derived from the GUND format, the Beguir-G[orgon] was able to use the Antidote as a Permet sensor with a range well above the EWAC pack normal detection range, and because of it, was never discovered by other companies while testing. After testing, the Beguir series was approved for production as an ace machine. It was also used to spy into Grasley's competitors afterwards, but because of the secrecy of its development, it became difficult to repair and replace its components, so it was later sealed and put in storage.

Based on the GM Guard Custom, this unit is designed to provide support on the frontlines, mainly by providing long range target designation to it's allies, monitoring the surrounding areas, and disrupting enemy communication and radar systems with its powerful jammer, which draws energy directly from the unit's reactor in order to effectively cover wide range of frequencies. As this unit's role is to stay back out of enemy firing range, it's equipped with almost no weapons, but in the rare case it's targeted by weapons fire, it possessed a small shield on it's right arm. Lastly, in the case it ever gets into close combat with an enemy unit, it has two lightweight heat knives mounted on each leg, which provide additional defense as a last resort. It's powerful reactor has two additional power outlets that may be used to provide extra energy for allied units.

In need of a recon variant of the standard SAFS the CMA developed the Racoon, a SAFS suit that replaced the periscope camera with a sensor pod and mounted a multi spectrum high yield camera on the front of the machine, though this required the removal of the left arm Laser, replacing it with another manipulator, which made the suit better suited to engineering duties, a role it was also soon pressed into. For additional protection, the armour was given a basic stealth suite, including a fully enclosed engine muffler and thermal shroud.

Pictured is SAFS Racoon 154 of the Northern Operations District, around Krakow, engaged in mine clearing duties a few months after the war ended. The SDR and CMA both made extensive use of mines and other such munitions, which then had to be cleared after the war was over.

Depends on the size of the part really. If we're talking like a gun scope or the mono eye of a Zaku, then you should be able to just get stuck in with the marker, but for bigger pieces I would personally use a primer first. There's also the painter approach, https://youtu.be/dRTZ4ejrrsI?t=17

To answer your question yes it’s full figure aside from the blue wings and hands that are compatible with the gun and ones that aren’t you can also remove just about every part but they ones i mentioned are the only ones that weren’t attacked to it when I bought it.

I can see how this would be useful, but I don't do enough custom work to warrant purchasing one. I'd imagine a similar contraption but for sanding at a specific angle would be more useful.

If you want to go to the mobile base tour GET THERE EARLY before they start, they do sell out of stuff. They have two lines a retail and workshop line do not get into the retail line unless you're first in line it moves slow, I got there at 1030 and didn't get in the store until 1245, if there is 50-75 people in front of you, you will wait for 3+ hours. BUT the workshop line is shorter and moves faster, you have to build an entry grade kit first (its free and quick to build 10-15 mins) but after that you get fast passed to the front of the retail line and will get in sooner.

Also the hobbytown these are set up in front of have a promotion going on, if you buy a gunpla from the store you get a free panel line gundam marker. Some of there stock might be on clearance.

I change out my nippers every 10 or so builds, but if you buy cheap nippers for cutting the sprue and save your good nippers for final cutting, you'll save yourself the hassle of needing new nippers all the time. Just replace them when you think they're getting blunt.

Are the Xuron 410 still recommended? They are quite cheap compared to the others but I would rather spend a bit more if that means I can just use nippers and don't have to spend so much time doing knive work. I've seen videos of people just nipping twice and it looked really good already and was a lot faster. But I'm also worried about stress marks, which I get from my current ones (which are a lot thicker tho).

Primer is a kind of paint, it is typically white, gray or black (although other colors also exist), flat or semi-flat. If that's the color and the finish you want, a primer is just as good as a "regular" paint.

For example, I use MrSurfacer as a semi-gloss black paint for all my guns.

The groupbuild is a joint /m/-/toy/ "contest" where anyone participating has to build around a common theme (ie: Build a Zaku, build a Melee suit, etc). About 8 years ago in the /m/ Gunpla thread I started running themed Groupbuilds in order to encourage more engagement in the building/painting side of the hobby in the threads and to have people share the things they made. /toy/ used to have their own builds hosted by Gelgoog Guy, but after he stopped hosting them I figured I'd open up entry to both board's Gunpla/Plamo Generals.

I've come here after failing my first attempts, It come with a few cracks and I have to superglue a part because it fall apart, The plastic kind of just melt. I know the Tamiya panel line is the main suspect but I did read thoroughly and top coat before applying them, But I top coat after building the parts. Now moving on to my next project should I just say fuck it and top coat the fucking runner > panel line > snap them together?

No, this is not a good idea. If there are any exposed pegs or holes (and there will be many), they will get thicker and will not fit correctly anymore. You technically did things in the right order, you just can't always anticipate how the panel liner might seep between parts. I think it's safer to just panel line by hand unless you are doing a part that you know has no danger points where panel liner could pool or get trapped between pieces.

Panel line on the runners or individual parts, but dont paint or topcoat the runners. Sounds like you may have oversprayed a bit, or maybe the tamiya still seeped into a seam despite the topcoat. It doesnt hurt the plastic unless it gets stuck and cant dry quickly. Really topcoating before panel lines is for painted kits. But some still prefer to do topcoat before panel lining anyway. Dont rush yourself and take your time with everything though.

I assume that they hold up fine, since I haven't seen a huge bunch of shitposting about how worthless they are. I've seen pictures of them holding up MGs just fine, but I wouldn't trust any action base to hold up more than a single standard kit without multiple arms (e.g. if you somehow want to display a MG Full Armor Unicorn or Thunderbolt Psycho Zaku)

No tool is perfect, it is about minimizing the damage and/or making less cleanup work for yourself. The white areas on the plastic represent stress, notice how much less there is on the GP example. Also note how flat and flush it cut, this is due to the single-blade design. The Tamiyas were not single bladed, so instead of slicing they pinched the plastic until it separated. Look at that ugly lip of chewed up plastic where it pinched.

The cleaner your nippers cut, the less cleanup work you need to do. Time is money and all.

Looks like orange peel. You likely oversprayed the coats. Try for a minimum coating. Should look evenly wet. If it is too thick it wont dry and gets gas forming in the paint layer.

There are better fish in the sea, so of course they could make Grande versions of the Durga, Materia (hopefully to actually reflect the human image versions with those chest sizes, since their model bodies don't do them justice), or heaven forbid, Magatsuki. Because she got a scratch redesign five years after her original design reveal.

Yes to minimize discoloration, but try fitting rgs and mgs with undergating together without sanding that shit. Sanding does ok to reduce any discoloration, a glass file makes it piss easy, but sometimes youll get parts too tight to fit a glass file to. If youre painting it doesnt matter as much how it looks on the plastic underneath, and some people like a rougher surface to get paint to stick better and all that.

You do sanding (instead of cutting close to the part) to avoid discoloration in the first place.
If you got discoloration already, sanding is not going to help you, to get rid of all the stressed plastic you would have to sand off so much you'd probably ruin the part.

If you buy a metal set of jewelers files they'll come with multiple, test on a runner because in my experience they're not consistent in labeling. Also my experience with sanding sticks/spongers/paper is that it'll last like three - four kits even with wet sanding.

Not unless you flail your arms violently as you sand.
The amount of dust produced by normal manual spot sanding is not enough to give cancer to a fruit fly and most of it doesn't leave your sandpaper.

All sanding material, even files, will wear down eventually. But I would get the raiser glass files if you're worried about longevity. They last long and don't rust, and seem a little better than generic Chinese glass files.

I have a box full of metal files that all get very little use (basically just heavy reshaping during scratch-building).
I don't think you want your nub-cleaning file to be hard, a sanding stick (the soft kind) is all you really need for plastic.

I bought a few nano fules from amazon. Half the time they werent bano fules and had the //// type ridge files and those you dont want. Raser is kike 25 bucks. If thats too expensive try the infini 3 way glass files or the dispae siren. Raser has been pretty good for me though and ive had mine a few years. Key to any sanding or file is to not press down hard, light pressure down, action is in the back and forth or unidirectional pushing. Leaves the plastic in better shape less wear on your sanding supplies.

A $2 glass file from Aliexpress does the same thing, the only difference from the Raser is that it's smaller and thinner.
There doesn't appear to be some huge technological breakthrough that Gunprimer/DSPIAE/etc made which would justify the 5x-10x difference in cost between them and generic glass files.

It appears that bandai started to reprint some of the old HGUC stuff but the number seems to be so low that it is no where near the demand that sellers are doing some price gouging with what little stock they have here.

Even in Japan, there is guy who literally goes through major stores daily to check on what gunpla stock they have, he saw a new juagga like one time and it was gone the next day.

Do we really need like 10 boxes of HGUC Z'Gok in every store and nothing else?

These things were such pieces of junk compared to the marvels of engineering we have today. The first thing I did while building the thing was snap the nub that holds the dobergun to the shoulder, because fuck being able to actually point that thing in any actual direction while still holding it in its hand. I also used a shitload of black watercolors to try to fix the coloring of the back thrusters (it's been so many years but I think they were entirely white), which again flaked off almost immediately because I had no concept of what different types of paint were and just grabbed what I had in the house at the time.

Kind of wild to think that the RG Tallgeese I ordered a few weeks ago is going to look orders of magnitude better with no actual paint work.

Went out to the Gundam Base tour. Was an interesting experience, but Jesus the smell was pretty ripe with unwashed armpit and ass. (I shower twice a day usually so I know it wasn't me lol)

What, you mean robot model kits? They're just not that popular historically in the US. Gundam failed back in the 90s and since then nobody really wants to give it another shot. Bandai themselves pushed into the US a bit with Sprukits (which failed) and then just putting Gunpla in Targets and shit (which is still ongoing, I think). But the market largely is not huge anyway. A double action airbrush with a 0.3mm needle should serve perfectly fine. As long as it costs more than $100 USD and has the important features from the relevant guides you should hopefully not run into any problems, but do your research first. Make sure you have the proper protective gear like a respirator (again, read the guide), spray booth, etc.

As for paints, lacquers are king, depending on your country they may be regulated out of access though. Revell makes enamels, which you technically can run through an airbrush but the drying time is stupidly long. Most would recommend either Tamiya or GSI Creos, and be sure to look up the proper thinning ratios while using the proper thinners.

My first 3rd party Gundam style kit. Pretty cool for the price everything fit together well enough and the plastic quality is good no complaints and the assembled metal build inner frame is very sturdy and poses nicely. Figure is hefty there is alot of metal in the inner frame.

If you really want a Fengda brush, Aliexpress would probably be a better place to buy one.
I bought a "high end" Fengda model for like $25 just for shits and giggles, it's pretty crudely made but it worked alright (for $25 anyway).

A good spray booth should come with an exhaust fan and a hose that you can stick out a window. General rule is don't spray where you eat or sleep, or in high-traffic areas where children or animals can get caught in the fumes. A room where you can close the door and with a window where you can exhaust the fumes out of are what you want.

You can technically make a DIY booth out of a box fan, air conditioner filter and big plastic container box with a hole cut in it, the materials would probably cost you something like $30-40 USD at the most (post-inflation) but it would be ghetto as fucking hell, there are guides you can find online. I bought a $100 Chinesium one off of Amazon because I didn't want to spend the time and effort to build one that would end up being shitty, and I have a job that lets me buy things.

As for a compressor, yeah a cheap one should be fine as long as it's quiet and hits the PSI you need (around 20 should be the highest). I went the stupid cheap and overkill route and use a $50 Harbor Freight 3-gallon tank, because I bought it years before my airbrush and use it for general-purpose cleaning around the house (it can be nice to have an air tank to spray out your computer case for example). But don't be stupid like me, get a purpose-designed air compressor instead.

A respirator is absolutely mandatory, because it protects your lungs and stops you from dying or getting health problems a few years down the line. Even if you're going to be airbrushing with enamel (that's what that Revell is) you're going to be thinning it with hardware store lacquer thinner at the least, and you don't want to breathe in those fumes. A spray booth ventilates lingering fumes out of the room so that you don't breathe that shit in after you take the mask off, those fumes don't just safely evaporate over time so it's not just a cleanliness thing.

Because a mask rarely works as advertised: the seal between the mask and your face is rarely good, so what you're actually doing is breathing mostly unfiltered air through the gaps around the mask.
What respirator does is give you a proper seal so you are actually breathing through the filter, which can be a P100 chemical filter or just a regular dust filter that does nothing, but at least you wouldn't be breathing in particles of paint.

Bare plastic kits look ugly, and if it's HG there are going to be huge chunks of it that are the wrong color or require stickers. Painting can be fun and a challenge.

most handpainting doesn't have too bad fumes. airbrushing aerosolizes the paint into tiny particles that fly everywhere and are very easy to breathe in.

Picked these up at harbor freight, the compressor kit was about $50 amd the 'tism hat $12ish. Compressor works well enough i guess, though the brush likes to be clean.

Im a first timer using cheap craft paint btw.

Bootlegs have various fitting and quality issues that Bandai don't. The trade-off for buying a bootleg is that your entire kit might end up being unbuildable because one of the parts didn't mold properly and thus you can't finish it. Bandai put the time and effort into ensuring that their manufacturing process is near-foolproof, it's very rare that an official kit will have any problems with it.

The real reason you might want to buy a bootleg is if there doesn't exist an official kit or it hasn't been reprinted in a long time. Bootlegs of regularly available kits can be found, and by and far they tend to be cheaper than the official kit but again they'll have issues. If you're an experienced modeler who can work around those and scratchbuild your own replacement parts then well and good, but if you do have the experience and tools to do that then you probably have enough money to just buy the official kit instead.

Same, anon. I remember reading some vague insinuation once that a lot of the niche Ganso SD gundam kits and the like were produced in Chinese factories; and the molds aren't in bandai's possession, making reprints difficult. Could be nonsense, but it's the closest I've ever come to a satisfying reason why I'll never have a Spark Gundam.
