I got this Sandstorm a bit ago and as you can see his stickers are in a state.

So now I'm browsing Toyhax for the first time.
Any recommendations on sets that really pop? Mostly looking at ones for toys that are already repaints and/or don't have much of an established place in the collection.

There's three threads at image limit still sitting on the catalog. Once upon a time we'd wait until the thread fell off the board to make a new one, even if that meant lingering in a thread at image limit for a few hours.

For me the Siege one is almost amongst his worse if only because its BARELY a "cybertronian truck". If anyth8ng it looks like a 1986 movie future vehicle version of Optimus, like how Kup is a pickup truck. Doesn't look alien or "driverless" at all.

Speaking of Optimus and Cybertronian altmodes, I'm really liking the look of SDCC Orion Pax. More so than the WFC/FOC designs even. I especially love the shape of the cab section.

It never sat right with me how streamlined WFC Optimus was in alt mode. Part of Optimus' identity to me is his boxy alt mode, so I much preferred the fist on wheels that was FOC. The pre-Earth IDW design though is my favourite Cybertronian Optimus look ever so I'm made up to get an official version of it, and while it would have been nice to get a dedicated mold, I think Hasbro did a great job with the retool. I'd happily buy it again if Hasbro were ever to recolor it as Stormbringer Optimus.

I can't sell TFs because I always end up buying them again at twice the cost. Selling is the true money sink for me. For example, I bought a Tigerhawk in 2012 for $15, sold it, and then bought another one in 2015 for $41. Big yikes!! I finally learned my lesson and keep all my TFs now.

And you know what? Now that my wall is a little more covered, I actually kinda like the giant stack of colorful boxes. Still have no space for them tho

Yeah I specifically chose it over the newer one. It looks better, and it's in a very nice box too! Maybe it's just nostalgia but these old Beast Wars boxes hit! This is another toy that I've bought 3x over the years. I'm keeping him this time, but my memory is that the cyber bee keeps flying off at the drop of a hat!

her colors seem just weird in the PF version. i plan to tweak them a little if I can, with some clear orange paint. they seem far too yellow and not golden enough
the stripes on her claws aren't like, better, they're just more show-accurate. but if you didn't look, you wouldn't know. and I don't see why her hourglass mark needs to be metallic.

So I tried to get a generation acid storm and ended up got a KO version

I gave it another try and this time yep, it is the real deal.

Double check with the KO, they really copied the whole package from top to bottom. The only difference I can tell is that the coloring on the print is slightly darker on KO.

Who know Canadian ended up to be legit where as the Australian (seller) ended up shitposting me.

There is also the importation sticker on the bottom- it is in Mandarin Chinese (for taiwanese usage) for something out of Canada for some reasons.

And you know what is the funniest thing? I am in Taiwan. This Acid Storm is finally "home" after 16 years.

Cybertronian aesthetic has been and will always be dogshit. They're supposed to turn into vehicles, not random mashes of blocks with wheels slapped on, or literally nothing at all. It fucking sucks and is the main reason why cybertron makes for a shit setting

Looking through the plastic cover, the only way to tell that you have a KO is by the darker color of the brown cockpit and the mirror camo on the left leg. But of course you have know that before hand.

I am just a bit surprised that I actually see a KO seeker in a generation package. It is always the Henkei package when it came to the Seeker KOs.

Of course, once out of the package you can tell something is not right with how floppy everything is on the KO.
Though as for the hip/crotch, the real thing is pretty bad too. I need to put some polish on those balls.

I do prefer real or earth vehicles a LOT more than cybertronian, the only cybertronian modes I really can care about to any extent are the G1 ones and even then I'd prefer real vehicles. Still TF Ones truck mode looks terrible.

I didnt like Rescue Bots Academy at first but its actually better than OG Rescue Bots. The OG show has too much chaos for a baby and the Academy sequel really tones it down. Also I was turned off by the young bots but they’re actually quite charming and child Transformers is a pretty novel idea Ive grown to enjoy.

If he has that fucking god awful backpack shit I will actually just end myself. Why is it so hard for them to make a good Megatron? Work with the robot first and then try to make it into a tank. I feel like the last few iterations have looked like complete ass and we haven't had a good G1 styled Megs that gets his long, thin legs in without giving him the stalkiest looking torso I've ever seen.

I really wish they just pivoted to G2 Megs with G1 colors since I think he works as a cohesive design. I absolutely hate the CW backpack that carried over to WFC. I hate, hate, hate it. He doesn't have to be a gun to me, but I would have run with the idea that his alt mode would be unique. I don't have any ideas on hand, but tank is just so blah to me since there are so many Decepticons that are already a tank.

I don't see the issue. We finally got a Megatron with a good looking robot mode which is like 1 in 100 we get these days and the alt modes are passable. You also realize the movie designs are very busy, so getting a cohesive alt mode was never going to happen. We really gonna sit here and pretend that the tank mode and "jet" mode from the Bay movies were any better than this? I know I'm kinda moving goal posts here, but just look at them. They look like they have the same amount of thought to them and they also make some of the worst robot modes ever to exist.

But we all know SS86 is going to be this reverse design philosophy, because they seem to have done it with almost all of the other original 86 molds. Look at Prime. They clearly had the robot silhouette in mind and worked backwards from there and managed something cohesive. Whine about the backpack all you want, the robot looks great.

Anyways, if it looks like any of the WFC designs, the CW, or my worst fear - the "upgraded" CW design ala the Robosen one, then this is gonna be a complete failure. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

I think its because the toys improved so much with Cybertron, but it was today I realized that Cybertron was actually a much worse, darker time in my life than Armada. Lots of memories coming back opening up this pic rel. I like Armada now.

Funny, the Cybertron/RID/Energon/Armada eras were when I stopped paying attention to Transformers for a while, I still bought a few here and there but I ignored the cartoons. It wasn't until Classics Hot Rod showed up on a shelf one day that I really got 'back' into collecting, IE collecting myself as an adult with his own money now.

Same. Although I never stopped paying attention entirely, the Unicron trilogy definitely got very little of my attention. I remember, it seemed like forever all TRU had was those book reissues and that was it, and then one day classics dropped! What a day that was. I immeasurably grabbed Hot Rod and I went back for Mirage later that evening. The only problem here is I would bet my left nut that was 2002 or 2003 but apparently it wasnt until 2006?

yeah that sounds about right though, by '08 I'd gotten back into the swing of collecting, iirc Animated was around that time, I remember how quickly I gathered up what I could find. I still never got Hot Rod or the Cybertronian Ratchet/Ironhide mold, I wanted Safeguard too just for how novel a combiner he was.

As someone who got back into TF during Siege and has picked up some CW molds (mostly through UW sets), it wasn't amazing. Most of the individual figures are fine on their own (I especially like Shockwave), but they feel a bit too rickety for my taste when they're combined. The lack of ratchets in the combiner elbows doesn't help them, either. And trying to turn non-combiner characters into combiners was a bad call.

Superion and Unite Computron are the only ones who were really worth the hype. Bruticus and Defensor were kinda meh, and Lio Kaiser was a guilty pleasure. If we count some of ghe PotP figures, Abominus and Pirannicon were pretty good. All said, the Superion mold (and its remolds) and weirdly Sky Lynx were the only good torsoes. The limbs mostly all did their jobs, but the torso is what could make or break the combined form.

The toxitron collection should have been legit G2. The designs they went with are pants on head retard. We should have got blue face Mirage, blue or green Grimlock, and Black Sideswipe. The fact that the entire toxitron series hit clearance and some of it still wont sell is proof it was stupid. Almost every mold they used has a G2 counterpart that shouldve been used instead. 70%, I'd say. The biggest issue is Hasbro refuses to use more clear plastic in the back of the headsculpts to even allow light through. There's exceptions like the current CHUG Shockwave and Cyclonus molds where the effect works just fine, but we need more toys like Generations Thunderwing or Machine Wars Starscream where any amount of light makes them look more "alive".

Whatever it is, hasbro still can't figure it out and they continue to make light piped eyes that cannot glow for shit, or look basically dead if they're not in direct light (which is the main problem with light piping). She and her pack were supposed to be in the movie originally - while each of the other dinobots got paired with different characters, she was paired with Hound, and was explicitly referred to as female in both the original script and her online bio; unfortunately, she was cut from the final film, and whoever was in charge of writing the box bios interpreted the toy as masculine. Seems that someone higher-up was pissed about that, because when they G1-ified her design for PotP, they explicitly reused her TLK online bio and slightly modified it to fit into the new toyline, making it very clear what the original intent was supposed to be.
She's also explicitly female in Rescue Bots Academy, as well as in Transformers: Earth Wars.

My biggest issue with the AOE toy is the wrist/elbow orientation for robot mode - the wrists can't rotate, and the elbows are designed to ben side-to-side instead of forward/backwards (and only do so a tiny bit), meaning you have to rotate her whole shoulder to make her raise her arm, which renders the point of elbows useless. It can be somewhat remedied by keeping her arms in their raptor leg configuration (the shins can rotate to act as wrists, the knee joint makes a far better elbow that points the right way and has better range of motion, and her toes can close like fingers so she can hold stuff), but it ends up giving her disproportionately long arms akin to Kingdom Paleotrex's, with the new 'wrists' having an awkward bend to them.
There's also the fact that she's got that rubber on her, meaning that no matter what you do she WILL degrade in time; this is a huge issue because her entire tail, which covers her robot head, is a single piece of rubber, and once that goes, her beast mode is utterly fucked. Sadly, it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

I ended up getting the Buzzworthy rerelease of the old SS Grimlock, who turned out to be pretty satisfying once I got the DNA kit for him that gives him an actual right hand (and also includes his mace, a tongue for his dino mouth, a flexible tail that becomes a lance thing like what BW Megatron has, and opening and closing hands), but there's no such options for the rest so far.

I agree. The DNA kit gives him some semblance of a neck by having the two halves of his new mace clip into his robot wrist in beast mode, hiding it a bit better, but it's still too stumpy and doesn't fix the fact that he can't turn his head at all in any direction (which I suppose is unavoidable for AOE Grimlock in general, given how his upper jaw has to stay in place to become his left pauldron in robot mode). It's still the best incarnation of him, even with that flaw, though.

No real complaints about his robot mode - he can actually turn his head this time around, he's about as big as Armada Prime's Super Mode, and he's still got his wing blades, Magma Blade, and pistol (though the sword is a little on the short side; his box advertises adding the blast effects to create a 'hilt' that makes the blade longer). That other anon posted his Magmasaurus mode here >>11115528 (though again, he forgot to flip up the tabs from Seasaur to more securely attach it to Landsaur, and he didn't rotate the robot arms around so the knees bend like they do on the show), and while the mode looks a bit messier than on the original toy, it still holds together pretty securely and is LONG - that picture doesn't do it justice, but he's as long as Laser Prime with his trailer attached. Then there's the three individual dinosaur modes - I love Seasaur and his flexible neck, Skysaur looks cool and is a bit more poseable than the original, and Landsaur is pretty cool, about the size of Kingdom Megatron's alt mode, and no longer has the exposed chest that the original did (though his tail is covered in ports for the Magmasaurus configuration). My only real gripe here is that his jaws can't really open more than a few centimeters (apparently by design, since his throat has to flip up into the back of his jaw for his robot transformation). There are some flaws (as there have been with pretty much every figure released in the past few years), but he's most definitely worth it, especially when your other choice here is...yet another Optimus Prime that's inevitably going to be replaced not far down the line anyway.

Badass. He holds together more securely than any combiner I've ever had - feels like he's just one bot, and has decent waist rotation, ankle tilts, opening hands, good range of motion with all his limbs even with the dino heads on his shoulders, and a rotating head that the original toy lacked; the wings can be moved to give him even more range of motion. Though the transformation looks complex at first due to all the panels on Seasaur, it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it - the mechanical bits on the back of Landsaur's legs are particularly satisfying to transform. There are people who aren't a fan of the hip skirts (they weren't on the original toy), but they don't really hinder movement at all, so it's more of an aesthetic issue for fans of the original and not a functional one.

I think I read somewhere that the Magmasaurus mode was a super mode, and/or I was mislead to believe it was a super mode rather than his standard, so that's interesting. That might explain why I've seen it posted here so often, either that or the novelty. Aside from TR Overlord, I don't have a large or even leader-class big bad, so something like this might start turning the tide, I just don't know why I'm not as excited about Magmatron as I thought I'd be.

Well, again, the Magma Blade is just one of his weapons. He still has his dual wing blades and his pistol, and getting bludgeoned by that massive shield won't tickle, either.

Not gonna lie, it sticks out quite a bit - he has half an Elasmosaurus strapped to him, so there's going to be a bit of a backpack. Then again, the original toy wasn't exactly pretty to look at from behind, either - and the new one's Seasaur neck doesn't jut out as far as the original's, which is a plus, and you have to remember that he's still supposed to be able to attack people with the Seasaur head even in robot mode, so having some neck to work with is necessary. Comparing it to the original toy, I'd say it's forgivable.

I mean...kinda? You have to realize that Magmatron spends, like, 90% of his screentime in Robot mode, usually lounging in his chair and barking orders. He only transforms when he's actually fighting, and even then, only when he needs brute strength - and in those situations, he uses the Magmasaurus mode instead of splitting up. So it IS his standard Beast Mode, but he only uses it in dire situations as if it were a Super Mode.

His lower half is a lot stronger when it comes to movement than his top half just by the fact of there being so many elements going on with his torso.
I really like how sturdy his legs feel.

He certainly has a unique presence that can fill that slot if you want but I can also see how people might skip him for that role since he won't fit in as well with the other bad guys.

I'm not a fan of them, they should've been able to rotate so they can curve down with the legs instead of jarringly stick out the way they do, particularly from the front.

I didn't make any judgment about the Earthrise Seekers, I was trying to clarify that the two-pack of TC and SW had the Earthrise molds and not the Siege, which is what that anon was interested in. I personally prefer Siege, I'm a weirdo who prefers Cybertronian versions of characters. Plus the articulation, Siege is so dynamic. Love these leggybois.

Nice. I got my second* one today. I bought him on first release but mine was riddled with QC issues and all of the exchanges I did progressively had worse QC issues so I just stuck with what they gave me. This one I just got has insanely tight joints and ratchets which are kind of scary.

Be careful of the dreaded breakage on the shin panel (little guy mode)/forearm (big guy mode). The post sometimes has too much friction and can cause stress marks at a weak point that over time will inevitably break. On my first copy, I took it apart and sanded the post to be thinner so it was looser. My new one is even tighter than the others were. Shot some shock oil in there and it seemed to help a little but it still makes me nervous. Debating of coming up with something that I can glue on that relieves some of the stress on the part. They should have just made it a more solid part.

All in all, Legacy Armada Prime is probably one of the best if not THE best figure of the entire line.

Finally got my Hotshot and Jolt 2 pack from hasbro pulse today. Really happy with it, the effect parts are pretty cool as I’ve never had any since I only really started collecting during legacy. Hotshots legs kinda suck and he has no kind of wrists for his hands but I love the colors on him and his transformation is pretty interesting. The real star of the show is of course the minicon Jolt and I’m shocked they haven’t made more of these guys for whatever reason. Star saber minicon team when hasbro?

Nah, looks to me like it's a custom repaint of Crasher. That's the exact same Kingdom Mirage mold with the Siege 'Hologram Mirage' head attached that she uses, no changes whatsoever, and you can see from the close-up in the lower left that the fine red lines aren't quite crisp, meaning it was hand done.

Crazy strong, and likes to play dirty (though he surprisingly had a stint as an honorary Maximal before he died, having lived up until Beast Machines and joined the new Dinobots as a member of their team, which was the excuse for including him in the sub-line when his toy finally made it to US retailers).
Japan has a thing where they create villains who are either super strong, super competent, or both...only to have them spend most of their time off screen delegating to incompetent mooks who always fuck things up in the end even though it's clear the Big Bad could probably accomplish his goals far faster if he just did things himself (see: Deathsaurus, BW2 Galvatron, and yes, Magmatron). This is apparently done for two reasons: comedic effect when the grunts inevitably mess up and lose to the heros, and to raise the stakes and show how serious a situation has become when the Boss decides to get off his ass and actually step up to the front lines; if the good guys don't have their respective Optimus Prime stand-in with them to save the day, it's generally a good idea for them to turn tail and run. Magmatron is no exception to the rule and is pretty powerful when he's actually doing some fighting.

Yeah, I remember Deathsaurus but I thought it fitting that an emperor would just sit back and let his generals earn some credit for themselves. I vaguely recall Megastorm and Galvatron venturing out a few times personally, but the latter could have just gotten plastered, it's been a while. I'm glad Magmatron's giving the other dinos (and snail) some time to shine, although I know it would have been better for him to lead by example, I get why sometimes you'd just delegate. Maybe it's a commentary on Japanese corporate culture, I have no idea.

Well, that's the thing - Magmatron IS the current Emperor of Destruction, literally the same position previously occupied by Deathsaurus (and G1 Galvatron and G1 Megatron). Or rather, he was until BW Megatron declared himself to be the new boss and attempted his whole 'hijack the timeline' thing, then ousted Magmatron entirely when he unleashed his virus on Cybertron and seized control, after which Magmatron joins the Maximals.

Magmatron’s legs are long and ive really got those and his body leaned back here, but it’s also because overlord is classic leader class size. Magmatron’s on the shorter side compared to jetfire and armada optimus, but is still bigger than magnus and feels far more complex

Yes, he took over at some point after Deathsaurus according to the Japanese timeline. Gigatron/Devil Gigatron was also one, but he was from an unspecified point in the future, apparently after Magmatron and BW Megatron. I think Jhiaxus also holds the title, though I don't know how much of the old comics Japan's timeline acknowledges.

It's actually a bit deeper than that - G1 Megatron was posthumously named the first Emperor of Destruction, so all the guys who took that title afterwards did so in his honor with the intention of upholding his ideals. They're literally doing what BE Megatron did - taking up his title and doing what they believe he would have wanted for Cybertron.

I mean, BW Megatron started off as just a henchman to a crime lord named Cryotek (the same dude people keep complaining we haven't gotten yet. Where is he, Hasbro!?). He broke off on his own and set into motion the events of Beast Wars while declaring himself to be the new Predacon leader (Emperor of Destruction, despite Magmatron still apparently being active as the actual Emperor of Destruction during this time) and even took it a step further by not only taking G1 Megatron's title, but his name as well, all while trying to carry out his directive left on the Golden Disk. He isn't the official Emperor until Beast Machines, where he seizes the entire planet for himself, and then by Season 2 he decides he can do better than G1 Megatron and declares himself a Spark-eating god. But yeah - he was still technically working under Cryotek when he took up the title and G1 Meg's mission, and didn't officially become the actual Emperor of Destruction until the following series.

I can see it, legs and waist would form into the first bug, second bug forms the waist and main head, third bug forms the arms like seasaurus does for magmatron, along with his absolutely massive shoulders, could be the easiest to do since they already look like bug shells. Heads would absolutely have to partsform, should be fine if it’s just that, though trying to get everything 100% accurate would be crazy, bot mode would definitely be filled with more bug limbs and shells.

He’s obviously not talking about the deco, he’s referring to the kibble placement since the tread backpack doesn’t look good on g1 megs and hardly results in a good tank mode. G2 megs integrates the tank parts in a more interesting way, though they definitely don’t plan on following it anytime soon since megatron’s g1 bot mode is just about the only thing they care about when adapting him
