When they are adults. When they are young and peer pressure still affects us, they want their friends to smoke so they don't feel alone, they want to feel validated, and want to continue their conversations without having to excuse themselves. Not me because I was born with a burning hatred for smoking thanks to my mom fucking smoking all day and then dying randomly, which is good because I have never smoked. Thanks, mom.
They tell you to not make the same mistake because they have grown and have realized how dumb and harmful it is to smoke.

The G1 toy is roughly what Bludgeon should ideally look like, just add the altmode over it. The design is at its best in the comics IMO.

Instead we got saddled with a toy trying to look like whatever the fuck this is supposed to be, which didn't look like Bludgeon even with the name on the drawing spelling it out or adding the upgrade kit to the toy.

All I'm saying is that while it's Tarn (the design), it's not intended to be Tarn (the character). Completely different origins, different personality, no real association with the original beyond appearance. Anon, That's not (G1/IDW) Tarn. The toy is suppose to represent A Tarn. The Cyberverse Tarn. A Tarn that gained personality over the many other 'Perfect Decepticons' from another universe. A Tarn that used his sweet words to swindle his way into getting help from both factions of the media's current universe. It specifically says so on the packaging. Names are shared throughout mythos. Hence why Mudflap can be Mudflap, but he can't be Mudflap, non?

Well, the thing about boxes is that you throw them away once you open them and remove the figure. There's nothing on the toy itself that says it HAS to be Tarn, especially since it doesn't look like the DJD guy at all but most certainly does look like the generic armybuilder dudes. In fact, even if you're hung up on the box calling him 'Tarn', it's explicitly calling him this guy - who was just one of the previously mentioned generics that gained an identity of his own, and - again - has nothing in common with IDW Tarn other than his appearance. But the toy isn't missing an arm and doesn't have the slashes on him, so it's clearly just supposed to be a generic.

Yes, I'm aware. That's literally what I'm saying. The other anon wants nothing to do with IDW Tarn, and the guy in the 4-pack very much isn't him. Doesn't act like him, doesn't have the same edgy backstory, and so on. So there's no reason to get upset about him being included in the bundle - he's not the character with the stigma attached to him.

I think that my problem is that the design is tainted for me at this point. My first impression to the design, which I can recall, was "eh, it's alright" but that's likely influenced by my disdain of IDW by that point. I know a lot of people were mindblown with how cool it was but I always found the design kind of ridiculous and over the top.

The one thing I can salvage from the toy is that they managed to give it certain poise to it, which could fit Cryotek.

I just went to Target to grab TM2 Megatron and those assholes marked the leaders back up to $55. Fuck. The good news is thats probably so they can put them on clearance in about a week. From the minute they slashed Leaders down to $35, I knew it was an emergency move bc they know the TM2 Megs / Skyquake case was that much DOA. They are not moving. His original release is the third, obviously. Meanwhile, the Tarn we got for Legacy is literally the first official toy of him ever. naturally, that takes priority over a character that has had multiple dedicated releases.

I ignored Tarn until it got remolded into Bludgeon. That was my issue.
POTP doesn't really count. ROTF is starting to fall apart due to its plastic and is not that good a fit for G1 shelves. Nobody would want new versions of G1 toys if G1 was perfect.
We were in need (not actually, it's a toy, you don't need toys but you get what I mean) of a new Bludgeon.

Yeah, but we were also overdue for a Tarn toy. He's a character who's fresher in the younger audience's heads due to being a relatively recent character, and he hadn't had an official toy released up until now, where Bludgeon, who's dropping off in popularity along with a large chunk of later G1 characters, already had multiple toy releases in the past. It makes sense that the new character that's never been (officially) done before be the one to get the new mold, and the old guy who's been around before and is just being remade to pander to older fans' nostalgia get the repaint treatment this time around. It was Tarn's turn, regardless of whether or not you liked it.

I beg to differ. This is the slimmest Bludgeon has ever been, giving him the most arm clearance and least amount of weight out of any previous toy, making it far easier to put him in actual sword stances without him falling over or having his own chest/shoulders get in the way. That alone easily makes him the best Bludgeon to date, as he can actually believably function as a Samurai now with all the speed and agility one would expect from someone who's supposed to be a sword expert. But opinions vary, especially when you're biased towards G1's designs, which all required a certain level of suspension of disbelief to be considered 'functional'. You don't care that a character whose fighting style is literally based on being fast and flexible looks like a brick with limited articulation so long as they resemble the blocky, error-filled cartoon designs you grew up with. But to each their own; you're clearly intent on dying on this hill even though you're the only one who can't seem to comprehend that there was a reason for why Tarn was prioritized over someone most people have forgotten existed at this point and who has already had several times to shine in the past.

As for the design/functionality, I care for both but if I have to prioritize something it would be the design. Now it can do sword poses by... breaking its arms to cheat a butterfly joint... Great... That's the thing, I didn't grow up with G1 but with Beast Wars, and I don't really care for toys of the show characters. I just like the goofy samurai skeleton robot design, it's as simple as that. I tried getting toys from my childhood and then I realized nostalgia doesn't work on me like that. I can feel it for certain things and places, just not for toys.

Going back, if we could get a toy with the proper design and the functionality of this one, it would be great, but I'm not going to intellectualize that I would be settling and hard for this version. Neither that I'm obligated to like Tarn in any way because he got a good toy. It might make a good Cryotek or a good 30 dollars, either way, no Tarn is going into my collection.

Bludgeon has a whole of different molds to choose from. The perfect Bludgeon would be an actual update to the Pretenders theme where you have a nicely articulated voyager scale undead samurai NON-robot shell and out pops an articulated G1-ish robot frame that transformers into a tank. Will we ever get that kind of dedicated engineering where both the shell and inner robot look good and can function as individual characters? Probably not. Until then we're stuck with Bludgeon-as-something based on whatever series he's shoved into.

Tarn doesn't appeal to a younger crowd, they don't read comics. Tarn is an IDW offshoot grimdark something. He's ok for what he is and Legacy/3rd party captured that just fine.

Because 'interesting' tends to stray too far from G1's bland designs. You may have a cool toy with a fun transformation, better proportions, and have it look great in pictures, but if it doesn't look exactly like it did in an outdated, error-filled, decades old toy-commercial-masquerading-as-a-cartoon from decades ago (or worse, it's a character that wasn't even on the show), it's garbage.

The older cybertron decepticons. These two are plenty fun, albiet a bit simple. Megatron has hands and fingers sculpted in an open pose, which i feel adds a lot to his character. Soundwave has sculpted fists, but he can hold his battery handgun quite nicely. I enjoy the secureness of Meg's cannon. The large rectangular slot that clips onto his arm is pretty much ironclad, and the cannon has plenty of detail on it. Soundwave has neat wheels, and his battery weapons store inside his chest. My only issue with him was a small burr on the mushroom peg of his wrist, which made slotting it in quite difficult. I think i might make a specialized punch/wedge for pressing in mushroom pegs. A lego parts separater, slimmed down with a semicurcular divit might do the trick.

....and the Autobots! Prime and Bee are the complex foils to Megs and Soundwaves simplicity. These two have a lot going on! Bee is a bit of a shellformer, but his legs have plenty of complexity, for as skinny as they are. There is a sliding joimt to extend them out, a wheel that shifts inward along the axel, and a round clip that connects to the newly exposed axel! Extremely satisfying to handle, although most of his transformation from bot to bug is tab-city. Optimus is fantastic. Lots of tabs, shifting parts, swivels and struts, BUT nothing feels cheap, flimsy, or easy to break. His rifle looks plenty cool with the side mounted mag and he has plenty of articulation (minus a waist, but that doesn't bother me so much. Hell even some MPs don't have waists).

Furthermore people need to accept that not every toy has to be flawless, that they *are* toys, that playability should be important (for the record I think transforming and articulation is importsnt for that), and that there is nothing wrong whatsoever with kibble.

It represents a bad character from a worse comic.
I don't think media should dictate what we take into our collections (The MCU has been terrible for most of its run but MCU Iron Man has some really cool toys) but we all have exceptions to our personal rules.
Mine is that I don't want any IDW design in my collection unless there's something I really like about the toy, like CW Ultra Magnus but only because it's leaner than G1 Ultra Magnus and the Perfect Effect kit was cool. Tarn doesn't make the cut but it's a good mold, which is why I might keep it as something else. I just need to get a junker ROTF Soundwave to kitbash them together.

Of course not. The moment they do that is the moment they kill the franchise. As long as there's room for improvement, they can continue to churn out remakes of the same characters over and over for decades, but once you have a 'perfect' figure, you have no need to buy them ever again. It's the same reason why Smartphones are built to break, cars are built to have their parts fail, and software updates are designed to break programs - it's a concept called 'planned obsolescence', and a way to ensure repeat business.

Transformers toys dont have a predetermined ‘shelf life’ and then they break. If HasTak is partaking in any unscrupulous design activities, its more like “planned fuck you”. I too have previously speculated on the subject; the worst it could be is they intentionally design the toy to less than its full potential and already know the date of the next version. As I told you yesterday, IDW was awful way before the first gay character appeared.
I dropped it at Infiltration 6 and used to check every once in a while to see if something cool happened or if it improved. It never did. Nothing cool every happened and the writing never got good.

Goes to show that while not ideal or high quality, Marvel and Marvel UK had the right idea. Keep things simple and light in scope so you don't end up with a trillion subplots scattered across a thousand spin-offs, annuals, and mini-series.
The only things it missed was adding toy characters that were doing nothing and still struggle to sell because of it, but it had a lot of cool characters of the week like Chameleon, Triton, Impactor, Xaaron, Flame, Scrounge, etc.

When I watched Micron Legend for the first time two years ago, honestly this final fight felt the most epic lol. I think it's because, after the whole show had Megatron and Optimus honestly kinda fooling around, and nobody ever getting too particularly injured outside of instant laserblast deaths, having the two take the kiddie gloves off and fucking rip into eachother, tearing parts of eachother off for an entire episode, made it feel that much more impactful.
Plus that, combined with finally giving an explanation of why Prime actually needed kids to occasionally teach him basic morals (revealing he genuinely has trouble with violence), and Optimus abandoning the Matrix out of guilt, doubly gave the battle some weight.
It's probably one of my favorite TF scenes now honestly, maybe next to BW Megatron genuinely fucking murdering Primal in the S1 finale lmao. The season finale fights in TFA were great but Megatron never had anything personal with Optimus, meanwhile the 86 fight is iconic but ultimately just another G1 Optimus/Megatron fight but flashier and with battle damage, that just happened to prove fatal for both.

Oh yeah I rember you telling that story a few months ago. I think itd a very interesting trajectory to become interested in them. For me it was much more standard, they were 1 toy that could be 2 different toys and they were fun to transform. My dad though really spoiked my brother and I. He'd oick us u0 from moms and often when we'd get there he'd hold two things behind his hands and tell ky brother and I to pick a hand, and he'd have a Beast Wars toy for esch of us.

As the years went on he actually got us 1 of every single main line Beast Wars toy. Even the repaints. Later, he got into collecting transformers himself. He bought a ton of rare G1 transformers and evej a few Japanese ones. Instead of hoarding this collection for himself and for value he let my brother and I play with them. One of the reasons I collect them now; I love messing with them, and I know I can resell them if need be... but once my kids are old enough and if they want to, I want them to have it and cherish them. Already my Daughter loves to play with a little basedchanger Optimus Lrime, but she keeps accidentally pushing his jead back in and gets mad lol.

Should I return this? I got Tasmanian Kid because there was a slight discount on Amazon, but it came in what seems to be a new type of "envelope" made from the inside of a cardboard piece (like if you tried to splice cardboard in two and within there is that wavy paper thing), and the box has a very notable crease. The tape keeps the motion of the shoulder a bit firmer. The tab on the shoulder isn't in the center of the shoulder so when you change the sides, it no longer locks it in anymore so shaving the tab lets the arms fold back all the way and the tape keeps the arms from being a little looser than they should be.

The main issue with Kingdom Rhinox isn't how accurate he is (they fucked up the accuracy of many of the BW cast in Kingdom thanks to them trying to make more 'realistic' alt modes for them). Yes, but same thing happened to my Dragontron, but the damage to the box was very minimal, and when I try to send it back the option for "package is damage" was no longer there, so I didn't try further. Meanwhile I ordered some playing cards and it came in a box with packing paper.

Worst-case I can have him as a Razorbeast, but yeah he's a bit more grizzled and cooler than the friendly baby Warpath from the show and the original toy.
H-tanks I get the complaint that they're lazy and frequent. But if you were someone who was growing up with Transformers toys over the past few decades, I think having and appreciating at least one or two H-tanks is fine. They're a product of their time and individually they're cool. The main and sole problem is "lazy Hasbro just turns the limbs into H-treads and we will never ever get decent actual tanks" engineering-wise, but I'd like to think that they'll get better at, and make more, non-H-tanks.

My issje is more that the front looks like ot should be the back, and it has no clear turret. While ao can abide by a non rotating turret (it happens when tma toy has to transform), I can't abide the turret being like... a mess of 3 distinct pieces. I'm okay with them but I never really know how to deal with that. I think I talked to someone about this recently, with clones or armour or something for multiple bots. You could even make them related but separate characters if you wanted, I think I'll just stick and settle with my regular Straxus, and I wouldn't get the new Skullgrin unless he was like, literally ten dollars.

You can actually see this in-game as they all have a handful of consistent details like boob intakes, knee spikes and the cockpit is also always in the same place. The wheel assemblies are always external parts, either folded up as a backpack or collapsing into thunderous, earthshaking thighs.
But yeah this is getting off-topic. I have lotsa memories about the game, that grind truly was unforgiving and is one of the reasons why I don't look back at it as fondly as I'd like to.

The plan, though a veeeeery rough draft of it, is to make a new head that splits to use the internal side as the chest and that internal side will have the details of the old show sculpted in.
Alternatively, just make some panels to cover the chest and modify the tolerances around that area a bit to make the "eagle" head go further inside the body.

As for what you asked for, before I forget, I think MP and Kingdom Dinobot did good takes on it from different angles.
Kingdom was obviously the budget take and had to deal with hiding the robot mode eye nipples in beast mode. The MP had to bend over backwards just to deal with that detail.
However, I've see people just paint the ancient Airazor toy in the show colors and get it looking pretty much exactly like the show character.

The green guys are Rack'n'Ruin. It's an oversized knockoff of the Generations Legends Warpath with 3D printed parts. I'm sure they're going to make a new Whirl and Broadside since their own versions were pretty lacking. My Whirl has a more accurate 3D printed head that I love since that was one of my biggest issues with the mold.

I guess you could say incarnation? Generally when talking about a figure in specific we say (continuity or toyline) then (character name) for example: Armada Megatron, Animated Optimus, Legacy Animated Optimus, etc

Just say figure then. However you would still need to specify the parameters of what you are looking for. Are you collecting a continuity or toyline in specific? Or do you simply want the best figure of a specific incarnation of a certain character?

Yes. I could just go to tfwiki and spend a few days doing it myself, but everyone here knows there's nothing like first hand experience with handling a figure, and sometimes pictures and video don't do it justice (and the opposite as well). My last two glaring examples of this were Legacy "Transmetals" II Megatron and Tigerhawk. The former look mediocre in the pictures, but it looks WAY better in person, and Tigerhawk looks somewhat appealing in pictures, but feels awful in person and I sent it back.

Sure, there's something subjective about it, but there's also a lot of objective things that people could pit against specific units versus different ones to make an informed conclusion on whether a release is better, similar, or worse than a previous one.

For Armada this is the best time to get the Legacy remakes. Commander class Armada Optimus, leader class Megatron, voyager class Starscream, deluxe class Hot Shot, titan class Tidal Wave (this one has a lot of QC issues tho). There is also coming the Galvatron repaint and blue Starscream

I really want to consider mp 10 but man that leg movement really holds him back, but from what I can tell, seems like magic square does everything mp44 does without the hunchback of notre dame backpack, for a cheaper price as well
