>>11133038I don't normally go for the giant, bulbous muscle guys either, but somehow this line made em work. I think the fact that they're engineered around their bulk to still have a full range of motion helps them pull off more natural looks compared to similar bulky figures with less range of motion. I also like how they're slightly based on historical concepts, but not entirely beholden to them so they can still pull off a comic book cheesiness.
I like Ogun, he clearly got a lot of love from the creators of this as he seems to come with the most gear overall. Though I will admit I hate his giant jagged hatchet sword, especially since it's reused with the evil army builder. If they had gone with a stylized Ida, the traditional sword of the Yoruba people which he's based on, I'd probably grab him in the backer kit.
Likewise had the Owl King included a two handed Bearded Axe, I'd probably have picked him up too. But that's less of a historical based nitpick and more a personal preference as I was never a big fan of dual axe wielding characters. I do like how, despite being very "viking" inspired, he doesn't have those stereotypical "viking" horns, it's a rare treat to see a more grounded looking viking helmet....on a guy in a fur loin cloth covered in feathers.
In other barbarian news, apparently Boss Fight just dropped pre-orders for their own Mongol and Amazonian figures, as well as a pair of Space Pulp style figures. Boss Fight's 6" Skeletons were lots of fun and these figures look to be just as good as they were. They also do something I love...and also hate...and each figure includes alternate heads so each figure can be it's own army builder. The whole wave looks great, but I may have to get multiples of the Mongol and the Space Pirate, as they both deserve a good horde.
