the big rotate-around-y part that has the wolf head, wings, and tail... should have been scaled up to match the rest of the body. it's shrunken. i guess they couldn't fit the wolf head inside the body otherwise.

Well it was a lot containing a Siege Magnus, SS BB Blitzwing, the PoTP Battletrap bots, the little blue missile truck micromasters, TR Hardhead and TR Skullcruncher, and a couple others. Was only gonna keep the TRs and micromasters.

but the others are up in the air. There aren't many you could actually repaint without them totally blowing it, nor "retool half the pieces" shit. The (popular and iconic) MH monsters are just a bit too interesting and special. yeah they have a few "that's just a (animal)" but those aren't gonna be featured, and anyway a lot of those don't have any current transformers.

I had heard people were grumbling about this godzilla crossover today. At first i just thought, "godzilla is cool and i like this grimlock so much i bought it twice, how bad could it be?". Where do you guys get weapons for your transformers? I know about upgrade kits but some of them seem insane in price. I have a g2 grimlock and just recently got a reissue Optimus Primal and its so cool his little swords and mace fit into grimlock's hands! Its awesome. But will I just naturally get more weapons as I buy new transformers?
Are there any transformers that comes with lots of weapons maybe?

Well, I had an unexpected opportunity and I went for it. Bought a 4 pack box of the Decepticons from the 2007 movie and I'm happy in a way that I'd forgotten the feeling of.

I used to have Blackout and Megatron that came out with the movie release, played with them exclusively for months afterwards, then I'm certain they got stolen by a little shit named Kevin. I was one of those kids that thought of the few toys I had as friends, so I got fucked up and could never prove he had them. Lying rat.

All these years later, I see these guys come up online, part of some anniversary release, lo and behold it not only had both of my lost pals -upgraded-, but Starscream and Barricade along as bonuses. Teeny little Scorponok even.
Makers outdid themselves on the toy designs from what I remember, Blackout especiallly seems much more like as he was shown in the movie, and I always loved how he can fold his rotors into a sort of cloak.
Megatron getting a coat of silver metallic paint really gives him a slick look, plus they actually made the transformation into an abstract jet analogue much better. Guy feels properly huge.
Even found Starscream's wide goblin look growing on me, and though his bot form is a bit clumsy, the F-22 form is quite nice.
Barricade is a runty little one however, half the size of the other 3 which I guess makes sense size-wize, but he's just not comparable. Still like him, even if it's hard to get him into his car form.

Didn't expect to be buying Transformers as an adult, but I like having something to interact with, to hold up and see all the intricate details of its make, so this suits me fine.
Now I've got four little robo pals to hang around on my desk. Hope you lads get to feel a similar bliss.

Upgrade kits are stupidly expensive yeah, but for some characters they're the only way to make the toy tolerable. and those will definitely leave you with extra weapons, since they tend to toss in a replacement for a weapon that was already fine, they just made it 10% better.

Yeah that would have crushed me pretty hard too. I'm lucky, I got pretty much 90% hostility from everyone starting in 2nd grade. That felt like a betrayal for a very short period, and then it was nicely callused over. I'm also lucky that I had parents who would go to bat for me, and would harangue those other parents til the theft was revealed. They also pushed back against the school for me, it was really them and me against the world.

Won't lie. I will be getting these just so I can have a Megatron-X and an Optimus whose color scheme fits the Centurion Drone's.

Also at least the Optimus recolor is a little cleaver with the shoulder pylons resembling Kiryu's canons.

Well that's the saddest thing of all, while they have fuck all to do with godzilla, these are still nice color schemes and... well one good robot mode, one pretty stupid dinosaur mode, one quite alright tanker truck mode, and one flawed robot mode that could be salvaged if you started over.

things like pokemon and digimon and zoids keep rehashing the same ideas and roles, repeating the same combination of animal and power or weapon or whatever, instead of mixing them up in new ways, and it always feels just weird. why should rodents always be electric? why should all giant robot bulls have tons of cannons on their backs? at least admit that they are part of a series, then it makes more sense.

But toys that are original concepts, like say,.. stretch armstrong.. if he comes back out, it's going to be at least 10-15 years after the last iteration, and he's still going to be called stretch armstrong. it's not like "here's the latest in the stretch series, stretch arnold. he's got an additional feature or two"

Transformers might be a bad example since it has like a thousand guys, but there are a bunch of toylines where you have the same character appear many times with different gimmicks. Works for annual or so updates, especially if they are so popular they dominate the world and have constant competition.

It's most likely going to be a 'Hunter x Monster' 2-pack in the same vein as the Jurassic Park crossovers, and the monster is almost certainly going to be the franchise's mascot, Rathalos. How they go about modelling that is yet to be seen.

The reissue of Siege Jetfire came in for me, I'm a bit surprised in some ways but let down in others I think.
Before opening him, I was a bit worried; G1 Jetfire was someone I liked from a distance but never had pwrsonal attachment to, and I think this reissue was probably my most expensive FOMO purchase I had ever done. I was thinking maybe I should resell him, given how big a toy he is, if I'm not passionate about the character for that price.
But, playing with him outta the box, he's quite fun. Tallest Transformer I have since I sold my 2009 Devastator lol, and that's not enough for me to like something, but he is a very fun design and toy to just hold and pose around lol. On the flipside, he does have a few big hollow interior sections, paired with thin plastic panels, which is unfortunate. Makes sense given his transformation in some parts, but eh, could've covered up the bottom of the jet better, and a couple of the ratchets (like the elbows) do feel cheap with this plastic, and a couple of the panels (chest vent ones and his wrists) come unplugged easy. Also his thighs have a looot of forward/back wiggle between the ratchets.
Even with all that though, he's still a real fun big boy with a simple design that's still somehow engaging, with that backpack and wings, and that fun jet lol (titanmaster compatability def is a plus).
Also ironically in spite of it being against his whole "pacifist scientist" appeal, he looks so damn cool kitted out with the guns and armor haha, even if in the back of my mind it makes me think of "angry Iron Giant" toys. Does positively remind me of his badass Dreamwave fight against Sunstorm though, he really does look badass.

Overall not a perfect toy, but what is? I really enjoy him more than expected, and am glad to say I'll keep him. At least this case of FOMO didn't fail me this time, lol...

We'll get one of three outcomes here: 1.) we get another Kiryu/Laser Prime deal where they just repaint a preexisting 'bot in Rathalos' colors and/pr slap a Monster Hunter logo with Rath's silhouette on it somewhere on them, 2.) Hasbro gets VERY creative with a preexisting mold and tries to turn it into a shitty Rathalos (the closest we have so far would be remolding the Terrorsaur version of the Kingdom Airazor mold - Rath's neck isn't anywhere near as long as, say, Fatalis', so it should be able to just hang off the back the same way Terrorsaur's pterosaur head does), or 3.) They do what they did with the second Jurassic Park crossover and make an entirely new mold for him a la Dilophocon. Whatever we end up with Rathalos WILL be involved somehow - he always is with MonHun collabs, no exceptions.

Palicos are more for utility in the games - they hunt with you when you're solo and do a bunch of other menial things depending on the games; the monsters, however, are the main attraction, and what you're playing the games to see. Nargacuga, Kushala Daora, Amatsumagatsuchi, Tigrex, Lagiacrus - hell I think even 'ol jetpack-dragon Valstrax would work well as a Transformer, if they took the time to figure out how to make it work and not look horrible. But realistically, if MonHun is giving Hasbro one shot at this, they're going to use the most iconic and well-known design their franchise has to offer, much like how the Jurassic Park one used the T. This is the exception but Kingdom Hearts 1 did that. They only allowed him to be shown for one scene and even then he was just a silhouette.

Granted the major reason I'm weird is cuz I'm american. All across Europe (and Brazil) in particular, it's the Disney comics that're basically engrained into public consciousness arguably more than the shorts, because they're real classic adventure comics *with* comedy, rather than boring shorts that Walt expected people to point and clap "waow moving picture with music, how quaint!" at (s'why Oswald was better, they didn't have recorded music yet so the shorts had to actually be funny first). It's also why the rest of the world loves Donald so much, because his comics are what defined the character, while here in America people don't read (and I guess where Disney has an easier time minimizing them from history).

I can't help but think they got this all wrong. Grimlock should have been Mecha Godzilla and they could have easily had a retooled the dino mode head to be more like him. BW Megatron would still be a much better choice for Godzilla even without any new tooling. I'm just baffled by these choices and it seems like a big missed opportunity.

I can't get over people failing to get Studio Series Battletrap transformed. Review after review, both of the real one and KO, people complain about how fiddly this guy is. How are these people unable to do this??? Full spoilers, mines a KO for a fraction of the price and not made with the rubbery kind of plastic. Like whole ass hard normal plastic.

And he transforms perfectly fine! All you need to do is A: don't have the chest sections fully transformed before you fold his arms back and B: Tab the tabs on the top of the forearms into the tow truck's rooftop.

transformers is being budgeted to death and hasn't had a good piece of media since Prime

Yea, that's totally fair. Like personally I love Rosa's writing, but his art in Life & Times (havent reached his other stuff yet) had this sort of, almost dirty grit to its characters(?) that always looked odd; kinda made them look dirty in a literal sense, lol. yeah the bayformers really pulled out the stops, knowing the vehicle licensing was going to be expensive and those altmodes had to be right, yet the unusual robot modes had to be preserved because that was half the appeal of the films..
they had basically the opposite issue for Animated, where they had these wonky cheaty cartoony designs and had to make them work as toys, but they pulled that off too. Great era for engineering.

That was Kiryu. The ghost of the OG Godzilla was still bound to those bones and eventually hijacked the mecha at some point, turning it evil. I think the other Mecha Godzilla was made from Mecha Ghidorah instead.

meanwhile walmart has crammed tfs down to about 3 pegs wide and its almost all the same type of movie gimmick shit that is still sitting in clearance from rise

They look exactly like her in that they have neat designs and shit articulation. Their build construction is great and they use a couple cool tricks but they cut some corners on transformation and joints. Asking price on ebay for this ‘high tide’ set is like $70 but I found them at the thrift store for $5 per component. Im going to try to go back today to look for more.

Yeah I don't think anyone suggesting BW Megatron has actually seen Godzilla, if you mean the Kingdom T.rex mold, that is. Godzilla is upright in most depictions.
You could, maybe, extensively retool Transmetal II Megatron,but it'd need to add some major bulk to his bottom section and a much shorter neck...actually that might even be better for Kiryu

NTA but some of the CW toys were alright as individuals (Rook in particular is a really fun solid Deluxe). The combined modes need replacement feet to be any good, but considering the budget and the expectations on them I think they get a bit of an unfair treatment. The limbs are mostly fine, honestly; it's the torsos that tend to let the combiners down, especially Motormaster (even if as a standalone truck guy he's actually a pretty fun, satisfyingly chunky robot toy).
Personally though I just think combiners in general are one of those "great in theory, shit in practice" things when it comes to toys. It's telling that my favourite toy renditions of combiner characters don't combine (Universe Onslaught and Blades).

That's the only one I own, the appeal of a tiny boombox was just too much. Not that they're bad figures or anything, just my space and income have no room for them. And if I was going to collect mini figs I'd go for Takara's old World's Smallest line, or even the Super Impulse World's Smallest Microfigs lines just because the appeal of that scale with Titan class figures is greater to me than where core class sets.

Which Hot shot do you prefer/recomend?

I was never that much a fan of the unicron trilogy to get all the figures but i had a like for some characters like Hot shot.

If you have absolutely no attachment to the character then middle is the best version of the Armada Hot Shot Mold since it comes with a lot of extra stuff, but Cybertron Hot Shot is the best of the 3. There's also going to be a Hot Rod colored version of Cybertron Hot Shot (red and yellow) called Excellion which you might want instead.

Trigger is filled with TF fans (I still remember Powered Convoy/Delta Magnus appearing in Inferno Cop) including Imaishi himself, so I think we're in good hands. Saw an eBay listing for Oiler and Slide and something about them drew me in. Got lucky on the bidding and ended up getting them for super cheap. They're in surprisingly good condition, aside from the rust on some of the wheel pins. Real charmers these guys. Something about their solid simplicity really does beat out the WFC trilogy ones.

For me its a bit opposite. I skipped the Earthrise ones and I regret it. They are much better than I thought and I think I like them better. Their build quality is majorly inferior but I like that they’re a bit bigger and the improved articulation is welcomed. I really wish theyd given more of them had elbows. Seems like barely any of them have em. Actually I think only have one with elbows, the purple jet

Yeah, I guess my opinion might be a bit clouded by only having ER Bombshock and Growl, who both have very glaring flaws (Bombshock's heels and shoulders can be annoying. / Growl can't stand). I still love them, but they're probably not the pinnacle of the Siege/ER Micromasters.

Yeah, I've noticed some of my WFC micromasters have some pretty miserable QC issues. Most recent one was the decepticon jet pack, one of the legs already had cracks at the pin joint straight out of the box.
Really sucks since I really like the concept of micromasters and it's turned me off from them for the time being.

What was your favourite transformer toy as a kid? For me it was quickstrike (also my first). I really loved playing with him but all the joints became extremly loose quite fast. So the Scissors would always hang open and the arms sagging down

If you look at the full uncropped image, all the characters depicted appear to be heavily photoshopped versions of them. For example, look at Oprimus Primal's fist cut off on the right side of this cropped picture; none of his toys have fists like that. Big Convoy here appears to be his original BWNeo toy, but with a few photoshopped tweaks, such as his arms enlarged to look beefier, and, much like Primal, detailed-looking hands slapped onto him.

Maybe Big Convoy will get a new toy, and maybe he won't. Maybe this is meant to tease it, and maybe it isn't. But regardless, this doesn't appear to be a look at a new toy of him.

That's because mothers recognize those 4 main characters so they make multiple figures a year of them because they know they'll sell. Nobody knows who Sentinel is, and on top of this Inferno was just an easy recolor that slotted in with the other easy recolor autobots like Hound, Trailbreaker, Sunstreaker and Prowl. I think there was even a theory that Guard City and some of the autobot combiners were intended to be a stealth version of G2 Defensor.

Combiner Wars Hound. Much like Power of the Primes Inferno, which are part of the Prime Wars Trilogy, Hound was a recolor of Swindle and had combiner parts. Same as a bunch of other autobots who became combiners because hasbro wanted to reuse the molds a bit more.

Animated's the best gateway show to get into the franchise, it has a little bit of everything but also its own personality and goals, and is just a solid time all-around.
First three Bay movies are also good first-timer watches, mainly the 07 one but RotF and DotM are also solid dumb fun if you know what they are and don't have a stick up your ass.
Honestly, G1 show is fun. Episodes vary, but a lot of the humor still holds up, particularly during S2 - it can get extremely goofy, but in an earnest way. At least, I'd say watch the first 5 eps and the '86 movie, just since errybody knows them, and if you don't end up liking it then the movie will be a fun music video regardless lol.
I also think Dreamwave's "War Within" comics are really good short reads, and could be enjoyed by nigh-beginners too.

I [could] recommend trying the Beast Wars+Beast Machines and Micron Legend+Super Link shows too, but both of them work best as like... someone's second or third TF shows, not their first. But they are real good.
SuperGod Masterforce+Victory+Zone, and Beast Wars Neo+Car Robots are also really fun anime that spun outta G1 and BW respectfully, and are just good dumb fun that, while more obscure, also don't really require you to know much of any outside lore whatsoever. Car Robots and Victory are my personal faves.

Ultimately, try out stuff for yourself and see what you like. TF media varies HEAVILY (or at least, used to before 2012) in tone, age demo, and genre. You could get a high-stakes drama, or you could get a Super Robot-esque fast-paced action comedy. It's also why TF fans can never agree on anything :)
