Ridgefield Hobby in Ridgefield, NJ, take the Transit from Penn to Secaucus, then switch trains at Secaucus and head to Teterboro station, you can then walk to the hobby shop or take a bus to the bus stop a couple of blocks away from the store. Great for model airplanes, tanks, ships and older Lionel trains.
Brooklyn Hobbies for RC.
Rudy's Hobby & Art in Queens.
Forbidden Planet (a comic shop with good toy selection), that said, there are similar stores throughtout the country, so if you miss this one, you are not missing too much.
The Airplane Shop in Fairfield NJ, you could get off at Tetrboro station once again, but you will be walking for a couple of hours afterwards, instead take the Transit from Penn on Line 193 bus and then Line 874 bus. It should take about an hour and cost $5-10 one way.
Tech Toys in Pasippany, but this is getting a little bit far.
There used to be Hobby Masters in Red Bank, which was plastic models, trains, diecast models, RC and even some figures. Unfortunately, they shut down around 2020.
Trainland in Lynbrook is supposedly good, if you want to look at Long Island.
Zeppelin Hobbies is in Wayne, NJ. Take the Transit from Penn to Wayne, then get a bus. It is mostly RC and slot car, but with some scouting related stuff.
While not necessarily a store, Northlandz is a must if you like model trains. Look it up for more information.
