So in the beginning of 2024 i started collecting 1/6 scale figures. I currently own two figures. Tunshi Studios Blue Mary and Mai Shiranui. I picked them up to change their pose and I noticed the skin on their elbows has started to split. I checked the rest of the figures and no other damage yet. I am new to the whole seamless body type. All of my other figures are plastic some which i have had for 15 years that are still going strong. Do seamless body figures have a shorter life span? I have a few more 1/6 scale figures on pre order because i am really liking them compared to 1/12 scale plastic figures but i will be upset if i cant enjoy my 1/6 scale figures for years to come.

Any material that has to flex, stretch or bend in a way that would put pressure on an overlay will always naturally degrade faster than if it were made of a more rigid product like plastic. They're also more susceptible to changes in temperature so if you live in a humid shithole then you brought that upon yourself.

You unironically would be better off buying statueshit than anything seamless.

I have some statues too like the small pop up parade mid sized bishoujo statues and the 1/4 scale PCS street fighter statues. sucks to hear that because i have ICONIQ studio 1/6 akuma on pre order. knowing know i cant pose him without risking tearing the body.

It's just the unfortunate con when it comes to owning anything of the sort. There's no doubt that if the material was perfected to last as long as normal plastics then a lot more people would probably buy into it, especially if it could be as durable for normal play. Sadly though we're just not there yet.

It really sucks because I'll fully admit there are some pretty neat stuff that are seamless but I just can't drop the cash for any of them knowing even with preventive care they won't last long enough for me to appreciate properly.

Honestly, I think this has a lot to do with the material used. Not every seamless figures uses the same silocone/rubber formula.
I remember picrel was the first 1/6 I got back in 2008. Within the year the neck was cracking simply due to exposure to air.
Since then I've had a lot more 1/6, mainly from Threezero and I haven't seen any deterioration. Quite honestly it's a gamble, especially if buying from the 3P China market.

IMO you shouldn't leave seamless silicon figures posed as it stresses the material. You take them out, pose them briefly for whatever you want to do--photography or whatever, then you store them away in a totally neutral pose.

This guy said it best. You really can't buy seamless figures yet because they break no matter what you do in their current iterations. You end up with a figure you can't move around at all that's liable to break even if you don't move it around. In my opinion it's worse than having a statue, and I don't like statues. You can't mess around with either but at least the statue doesn't have the splitting problem. It's sad that you didn't realize this until you had already bought in, I got lucky myself and always heard that there was no way to keep them from becoming ruined before I got any. Maybe you can cancel Akuma or offload it without opening it to someone that understand the risks.

I’m not sure the humidity really matters the most, more just what temp you leave your house. I’m in the south and have several seamless figures that seem fine, but I keep my house 68-69 and a fan running in my collection room. I definitely prefer figures to be non seamless though.

Yeah, that was what I was trying to describe. The upkeep isn't worth the limited lifespan compared to what else you could have bought that will last longer.
