New original theme is coming in august 2025, it's based on holidays and fairy tales combination, has santa clause as main lead with other characters like easter bunny, jack o lantern and more. Its called Holiday Guardians. Characters like Hensel and Gretel are there too, main villain is Krampus.

the price you pay if you don't buy it, is your feelings of regret, which is more valuable to you? the money or the avoidance-of-regret?

of course, if you have to pay rent or mortgage or whatever, you should do that first.

you can always "buy it back" from yourself, by say... working a little overtime if you can, or cheaping-out on meals for a while (the $5 Biggie Bag instead of the #1 Combo will bank a few bucks, eat some ramen noodles instead of ordering that pizza for delivery, etc eventually you will have earned it back)

or... it's LEGO
build your own train with the pieces you already own. that one might wind up being more special to you in the long run anyway

what's a typical lifecycle of a set? particularly an ideas set?
how long from launch until LEGO website is out of stock?
I assume soon afterwards retailers will also start going out of stock?
unfortunately I'm a little behind with how LEGO operates - just coming back to the hobby after about 10 years
I'd like to optimise when to buy sets because waiting months is fine but I'm tight with money so I'll buy just 2-3 key sets a year
I'm concerned with Orient Express because it's almost been a year since launch so I don't want it to suddenly disappear from retailers and instantly mark up 20% on Bricklink

It can vary a lot depending on the popularity of a set. It's usually at least a year, the average to me seems about 2 years, but info is usually available on a catalogue exit well in advance of it happening, there's a list of "leaving this year" on brickset

For less than $260 you can buy an actual wooden model kit and glue and paint and build something more detailed as an adult. Literally what’s the point of this? I’d hoped it would be stylized a little bit or at least be and look fun, something playable that I could foresee rebuilding or making into something new. What I suggest would be the kind of thing perfect to market to kids to. I read a dozen books and memoirs on arctic exploration way beyond my grade level when I was younger. I would have begged and cried as a child, and for something smaller at 250, probably would have gotten it for Christmas. Why did they make this a dust collector for adults who can do better! I hoped they’d do something smarter than this, I’d wanted to want it, but this is a travesty as far as value goes.

I'm going to make a china city with
1. Family Reunion (Obtained)
2. City of Lanterns (Trying very hard to get at the moment
3. Megapolis City 5th Anniversary (Will get hopefully at christmas or january)
4. Celestial Pagoda (Will get even later and might need 2 as the centerpiece of the city)

Confirming an order removes those parts from Bricklink's inventory, so no one else can snag them. If there's a rare part you know you want, and you also know you want an unspecified amount of "some other stuff", you can pull the trigger on the rare piece to reserve it, then leisurely fill in the rest of your total order. Then when you're all finished you can tell the seller you're ready to be invoiced for the entire order.

Lego produced a Queer Eye For the Straight Guy set that went on 70% off clearance less than a month after its release. Their ability to determine what is or isn't popular seems suspect.

I was excited by the rumours for this set, but I'm disappointed. I didn't know what to expect, but I know it wasn't this. A Shackleton fig wouldve been cool to put alongside the other historic ones in those vignettes they've been doing lately

I just found out one guy I used to follow who made Moc's as if they were designed by lego was hired back in 2021. He clearly wants to do some castle theme but where did they put his talents? City, Creator and a bit of ninjago. The talent is there but until management fucks of its going to more ninjago slop till the end of days. Depends on how much you actually have. It might be helpful to sort by color when you don't have that much, but once you reach thousands, sorting by type is going to be more effective. And even then, it's going to take up lot more space than you expect so be warned

If you have lots of parts belonging to a specific theme group (like plants, animals, rocks etc.), you can put these in a seperate group.

Also, don't hesitate to scrap any builds that you won't really need anymore. Nostalgia is good, but having a bit more space is sometimes better. Plus, you get some additional parts to build with.

The issue I found with this is that you often don’t get enough pieces from these sets to really make something else out of them due to how specialized pieces are nowadays. One thing about the bigger sets I find appealing is they actually come with bricks so that you can actually make something else with them if you so choose.

Honestly, I ended up keeping the regular car and just using the additional elements for mocs. The unadorned car looks really good, and that old man minifig is one of my top 10 of 2024. He's so fucking cool, and his hair is excellent for a paladin minifig if you've got some dnd cmf stuff.

This set is just a huge disappointment. If it's meant to be a display model, then it should at least have realistic rigging and mast proportions because there are plenty of better looking ship models you can buy for $260. It's a shame because there are so many fan mocs for semi-realistic sail ships that you can still put minifigs in.

Probably hype relating to SpaceX and the refocus on the moon in nasa’s budget. This was also shown in the first wave of city space stuff around 2015-2016 if I remember right. Starship literally has none of those at the minute. All that moves on the current starship is the flaps and some of the engines, it's basically just a large tube atm.

Couldn’t agree more. Out of all possible takes they could have made they compromised on all of them and made something good from not a single angle literal or symbolic. It’s tragic because there was so so much potential in the shackleton story, so many details or vignettes they could have painted and represented but they chose an out of proportion ship with no environmental details included. People care because the crew survived it getting crushed the fuck up in ice, not that it had slick lines. Truly a design by committee tragedy

I can’t imagine it’s a bad one, so probably. If the rumors are true there’s a villain faction coming they’ll probably expect a sales bump in the old sets as interest in the old sets peaks at the same time. This tells me they’ll probably announce the new sets in June and cash in on that last month of overlap between pre orders and what’s out?

I got the space station from a reseller for cheap and I’m planning on combining the little re entry vehicle and the space cab somehow. Not sure yet; I did this with the smaller rover and the interstellar ship already
